I'm not holding my breath for anything to happen. It has been over 10 years ago that the major incident happened, also over 10 years since the regular season hoopla fights. While I highly doubt guys of the old Wings brass have completely forgotten about this stuff, they've moved on from it and aren't just going to settle old scores that have all but died. There are more important things at hand like improving your position in the standings. I think we as fans put more emphasis on this stuff more than the players do.

What about people who understand an enforcer's role but don't think they are as important as other aspects of the game, but still important to a degree? Do they know anything about hockey then?

I haven't read much of this thread in detail after my initial goofy post so I apologize if I go in a bunch of different angles or say stuff that isn't relevant. I like looking at good looking women. It's nautral to glance, at least to me. No, I'm not going to be all googly eyes or froth at the mouth like a horny 13-year old teenager, but it is natural to look or glance. Just like it is natural, at least to me again, for women to look at men and say they are good looking or cute or whatever else at the sports they play no matter what they are. Heck, just look in here and take the Hottest Red Wing Thread sometimes. Where's the problem there? Looking doesn't require anything in the way of commitment or thought, emotional baggage/drama, getting to know somebody, or money. It is just looking. I don't see what is so wrong with that for either scenario or gender. Correct me if I am completely off base with this, but I do think that it is generally frowned upon in here for women to look at guys and comment at how they look good and the like, because it is a male-dominated forum, yet it is all right for the guys to look at women without worry. Kinda funny and hypocritcal some to me. Do I think peppy cheerleading that I often saw in high school is annoying? Yeah, without question, and I wouldn't get involved in that stuff as I've always just liked to watch the game when the game is on. The women were still good looking to look at though. If I can see a good-looking woman at a sporting event, yay for me. If that makes me a pig or a pervert just because I like to glance at women that I think look good, I'm sorry. Doesn't mean I'd instantly talk to the person or be good friends with one from the start though or go on more than one date with a good looking woman or whatever, that obviously requires more than just somebody's looks alone. There are plenty of women out there that look good to me. It just means that I like to glance, nothing more or less. It doesn't take away from the game to me, as I'd still be watching the game with great interest. I'm indifferent about ice girls being at games overall. I'm there to watch the games. Looking at ice girls or good looking women, while hopefully expected to a degree at these kinda things, is just a bonus to me.

As much as I love offense and high scoring game as they are usually more exciting, I'm a pretty strong proponent of defense winning championships, though there are obviously exceptions to this. Hossa may be better offensively than Rafalski is defensively, but Hossa is one of the best offensive guys in the game today and Rafalski is no slouch on defense. With my mindset here, I take Rafalski.

Probably won't affect any status of potential awards one way or the other I think. It is just a one-game suspension and I think for the most part, generally speaking, the hockey world is on Lidstrom or Datsyuk's side, or at least the players overall/the players union. This includes both fellow players and the media I think. Sure, a lot of fans of other teams are probably thrilled that Lidstrom and Datsyuk are out because it is easy to dislike the Wings for consistently winning, but fans usually don't give out awards.

Nah, I like the occassional instances when I get to dress up and look spiffy. I guess partially because I usually have short hair and don't have to mess with it as much and can get spiffy in the span of about 15 minutes. The person below me has rode in the trunk of a car before.

Ok, seems like we need to take a few steps backwards in here. Facts, and my opinions. Please tell me if I am way off base on any of this whether it is facts or my opinions. - Technically, do Lidstrom and Datsyuk deserve to miss this next game due to the exact written rules? Yes. I personally think the rule is silly, but I understand why it is in place so not everybody doesn't play in the All-Star game. Whatever, me thinking it is a bit stupid isn't going to change the rule. I think we at least "understand" the rule per se and aren't griping so much that Lidstrom and Datsyuk or missing the game because of the rule and the rule alone. - No, Bettman shouldn't get blamed for everything. However, he makes himself an easy target. For this incident specifically, he has handled it bad. Very bad. The timing of how this happened is just all wrong. - And, whether it is right or wrong, accurate or not, biased or unbiased, him looking like he struck a backdoor deal with Crosby so Crosby didn't miss any suspension time gives the perception of favoritsm towards Crosby. And I'm not one to pile on Crosby and still don't, but this just gives off the perception of favortism towards Crosby because he is a main marketing effort for the league. Again, I don't blame Crosby for this whatsoever, he did what he thought he should do to not get suspended for this and dotted his lower-case j's and crossed his f's. Good for him. Crosby himself doesn't really have much to do with this in my opinion. Bettman's seemed favortism towards him is more of the deal here which makes all this questionable. - I have not read anywhere that Datsyuk and Lidstrom were made aware of these things in time enough to not get suspended, or at least a similar deal to what Bettman seemed to give to Crosby. - Just because Lidstrom and Datsyuk missed an All-Star game doesn't make them questionable people or bad leaders or whatever. They just missed an All-Star game, nothing more or less.

Not really. Carpeting only exists in the upstairs of my house, so it doesn't take that long to do. Just one of the responsibilities in maintaining a house. The person below me has used a chair to beat somebody up before.

Meh, just let them play this thing out. Barring an absolute meltdown, which is slim/none to happening, this game isn't going to be an end-of-all-end games to get a playoff spot, the Wings are fine in that regard. I personally think the suspension rule itself is silly, but I understand why it is put in place to serve importance to the All-Star gam. Me not liking the rule isn't going to change it anytime soon though. The timing of everything was worse though, on such short notice. That is what made this whole thing ridiculous. If Lidstrom and Datsyuk were completely healthy, I think it'd be more justifiable to fully criticize them for missing from the start. Anyways, this is stuff that probably should go in the All-Star frustration threads here so I'll stop here. Even though Bettman will have his way regarding this, let this play out Tuesday and get it over with.

No bitching here. You just confirmed though through these posts in this issue that you are acting like a snob with the whole attitude of hockey should only exist north of Illinois.

I wouldn't have let up. When a game is all but over early like this one is, no I'm not going to continue to play my first stringers or superstars. In this case of a basketball game without a shot clock I'm assuming, no I'm not going to try to go on a fast break everytime or shoot the first chance I get. I'd still want my 2nd/3rd stringers to play the game under the current game plan or situation, and that'd still require at least trying to score in all likelihood. Could they have let up? Maybe. But it's not their fault the other team's defense was bad that game. Similar to the story I gave above.
