Because it is a degrading word that can be perceived as a pretty strong put-down and can make people sound pretty ridiculous at times, like in this case. I'm not calling guys like Pete Sampras or Karl Malone or Michael Jordan or Isiah Thomas or Jim Abbott a bunch of p***ies just because they play a less physical sport than hockey, because they were damned good at the sport the played. And I highly doubt they are p***ies in real life either.
-
Nobody is forcing you to like the sport. You don't have to like it. Certainly doesn't bother me. Dismissing the sport though or thinking that it is less of a sport because it might be a little less physical than hockey is pretty ridiculous though, something you seem to either continually be missing here or just purposefully avoiding. It requires practice and dedicates and talent as well to be very good at, just like playing hockey at a competitive level does.

I tore my ACL playing basketball after getting run into on a play, so you might want to re-consider your thought there. You are still missing the point, just because some sports don't have as much contact as others doesn't make them p***y-like. It just means they don't have as much contact. And given how it isn't uncommon here for people to get up in arms when people dog on hockey without understanding it, maybe consider not doing the same to other sports just because you don't like them or think they are as cool as hockey.

It isn't. Just because a sport isn't as physical as hockey or football means it is p***y-like. It just means that it isn't as physical of a sport as hockey or football.

No denying that Lemieux was a helluva clutch playoff performer. He was also a dirty player at times, pretty hard to deny, despite how clutch and good he was in the playoffs. The "turtle" thing is pretty obvious, just ducking down taking McCarty's blows in the whole incident. True, nobody really looked all that "great" in that scenario, but what would you have expected Draper to done there. When your face gets smashed like he did at the time, it's gonna hurt pretty damn bad and gonna take some time to get up from. In response to the comments of Lemieux being able to beat up everybody on our team, this is just a big overreaction to a loss to a "physical" team that really didn't just completely demolish the Wings physically. Sure the Wings got hit but that wasn't the sole/major reason they lost. Can Lemieux drop the gloves and beat up people still? Probably so. But let's get serious here, he's a grizzled veteran, I don't think he's going to get that many minutes to be physical or beat people up. He's not the Lemieux of old (or young).

Gotcha. To some degree they might need fans like those to survive, and that's entirely debatable and it could be gone about all day endlessly without getting anywhere. Basically where I'm trying to come from is it's pretty ridiculous to dog on other sports just because you don't like them, cause plenty of people do the same thing to hockey unfairly, and it doesn't matter what sport you play, to excel at it takes a lot of practice and dedication.

Does regular season really matter to the wings?
SouthernWingsFan replied to DatsyukianDeak's topic in General
To a degree, yes the season obviously matters. You obviously want to win, and want to get as high of a seed as possible for the playoffs, as any home-ice advantage in the playoffs certainly helps, though it isn't the ultimate end-of-all-end solutions to winning the playoffs and Stanley Cup obviously. Would I like the Wings to win all of their regular season games and just dominate everybody 24-7-365? Without question. Is that going to happen though? Not a snowball's chance in hell. It is impossible to bring your best effort or just dominate in a season that is 80+ games long. Doesn't matter if the team is the Red Wings or anybody else in the league, you're going to have some crappy nights. I know that I have days at my job where I haven't bought my best, it's impossible to avoid no matter who you are and what job or career you work in. Fortunately, the Red Wings are a good enough team to where they can usually get away with not playing their best every night and still do well enough to make it in the playoffs without too much difficulty. -
Yes the Sharks were "physical". The Sharks are almost always "physical". Khan, and myself, are just pointing out multiple times that the Wings are not intimidated by that stuff. You (I am assumning, please correct me if I am wrong) and others are advocates of enforcers. That's fine, I have no problem with that. When this gets absolutely ridiculous about this is when the advocates' stances go overboard that simply because the Wings may not have a true enofrcer, their physical play is just 100% out of the window and they are just a bunch of soft pansies. Or, just because not everybody subscribes to your stances 100% all the way, we automatically do not appreciate what an enforcer brings to the table at all. It isn't just an all or nothing proposition. They aren't soft or wussy like. 2006-07 playoffs beating more "physical" teams in Calgary and San Jose and nearly doing the same to Anaheim shows that, and it continued this past season in winning the Stanley Cup. If it is just a matter of wanting an enforcer, again that's fine but what else does this team need to prove to the ones advocating for one? What do you all want? What are you looking for? Enforcers...do they help? Without question. Are they of the 100% utmost importance 24-7-365 like some make them out to be? No.

Just because you don't like baseball or basketball means that it is a p***y sport. I can bet you that many people who enjoy or play those sports don't understand hockey that much, and falsely label hockey as a stupid sport as well. I like hockey, plus I like watching baseball and basketball as well. Used to play baseball and basketball a good bit when I was younger and enjoyed them both. Does that make me a p***y? Does liking sports outside of hockey make me a p***y? And there is plenty of good basketball up north in your neck of the woods in the Pistons, Big Ten basketball with schools like Ohio State and Michigan State and Purdue usually consistently good for example. Are you going to call basketball a p***y sport to those that like basketball up north there or people who play on those teams? Basketball and baseball aren't limited to just being popular in the South. What does basketball and baseball have to do with this whole thread anyways?

If we are looking at it just from a standings perspective right now with where the Wings currently are, then San Jose. However, no 7-game series in the playoffs is an absolute slam dunk for the higher seed or "favorite", I don't care if you are seeded 1st or 8th or 100th. 2005-06 (?) should serve evidence of that as all the lower seeds in the Western Conference beat the higher seeds in the 1st round, and Wings fans have definitely witnessed their fair share of top-seeded early round exits over the current decade.

Patience, patience, patience. Wait and see how this plays out without doing anything drastic or for the sake of it or "exciting" just because it might be "exciting" in the headlines for a day or two. This is all just groundwork for April and May for the playoffs. Both goaltenders have plenty of games left before then to try to play at the top of their game when the most important part of the season comes around. Plenty of time, which means they'll probably have plenty of good games, and there's a good bet there might be a stinker or two out there. This team is making the playoffs and is good enough that it doesn't have to worry about their guys playing at a 150% level all the time. Not that I want these guys to play half-assed out there, but it is bound to happen every once in a while in an 80+ game season and this team isn't in danger of missing the playoffs at anytime soon. I'm fine with both the goalies, these are the goalies we are probably going into the playoffs with. No need to fret or lose sleep over this right now when it isn't April/May yet.

Yippee, this discussion again. How many times do we have to go through this? Can enforcers help? Yes. Are they of 100% upmost importance all or most of the time? No.

El Arroyo definitely has some yummy food. I do not own a skateboard. The person below me has almost as much bad luck as this guy, or has come in contact with cactii before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjvFKRP78zM

So have plenty of other goaltenders, much greater than a typical 1-page grocery list.

Nothing, just like last year whenenver Hasek struggled. You just let things like this play out and do not make a trade or move just for the sake of making a trade or move. They don't have the cap space to make a trade, I highly doubt either doing anything to ship Osgood or Conklin is even anywhere on the radar of an option. This team is making the playoffs, I'll be concerned about Osgood or Conklin's play starting around April if it isn't up to snuff. I'm fine with both of them. With a team as good as the Wings, you let things like this play out, be patient, and don't do any big moves just because they might be "exciting".

Coloring books, somehow staying within the lines... No really, I bet he wanders how he has to stay within the lines, or he'll draw a penalty outside the trapezoid area.

I did (yesterday), running on the treadmill for an hour, running over 6 3/4 miles, and burning around 800 calories. The person below me wanders how Marvin the Martian talks without having a visible mouth.

Report: World Cup of Hockey to be held in 2011
SouthernWingsFan replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
I'm all right with some games being opened up in Europe. The NHL has players from so many countries, and fan bases the same on different continents, never hurts to try to expand the popularity. -
I don't know what cabin fever is, so I don't know. The person below me would think it would actually be cool if the Count on Sesame Street actually transformed into a bat.

Last weekend after a race down here (hence the number tag on the shirt there ) in front of an Andrew Jackson Memorial/Jackson Square in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Below that is a more general shot of Jackson Square and the St. Louis Cathedral in the background.
