Si, although the company I work for has work today/Friday. I chose to take the days off. Yippee for still having vacation time. The person below me is going to use any excess fireworks after tonight, if they have any, to wake up somebody within the next few days and watch them react funny.

GDT 2009 Winter Classic: Red Wings 6, Blackhawks 4
SouthernWingsFan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in Hall of Fame
The Red Wings will jump out to a customary 14-3 lead after 2 periods with Draper scoring a hat trick to make SeeinRed go nuts, and then go on to win by 10 touchdowns to finally make one of my 10 touchdown predictions come true.- 1,043 replies

I Love to Hear Broadcast Crews Squirm
SouthernWingsFan replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Don't really listen to sports broadcasts on the radio, and usually tune out broadcast crews on TV and just like to watch the game. Because no matter what you say or how indifferent/non-biased these guys might try to be, somebody is going to claim bias or idiocy or rant that this broadcaster has it out against my favorite team. As for sports radio broadcasts outside of games, if it's just a game recap or not any major sports drama headlines and I do listen to them, I usually turn it off after about 5 - 10 minutes since the answers and comments are usually cliche and obvious to answer that I can answer them in my sleep, although it is funny sometimes to listen to angry obnoxious fans. -

Nope, because that is because I just have a cell phone. The person below me has yelled "Thank you sir (or madam) may I have another?" before.

Babcock: Conklin To Start Winter Classic...?
SouthernWingsFan replied to Chelios57's topic in General
Kinda, but from that perspective if I was a big fan of an athlete and they had the chance to play in such a big game like the one coming up tomorrow, I'd like to see them play as well. Does the fan in me want to see Osgood play? Sure. But overall perspective, groins are goofy in terms of when they heal up, you aren't playing this next game in an arena in a fairly controlled climate, conditions could get worse which could screw a groin up even more, and we'll need Osgood the rest of this season. If there is even any suggestion of the groin being nagging for a game to be played outdoors, not worth the risk to me injuring it even further. Again, it has nothing to do with Osgood's capabilities on the ice, or even little/nothing to do with Conklin having "experience" playing outdoors. -
Anyways, pretty much any player imaginable whether they are good or bad, superstars or role players, are going to go through dry streaks in terms of points and goals. Would pairing him up against with Datsyuk help? Perhaps so, but it took him the first couple games to score his first goal as well, being paired with Datsyuk. It is just a dry streak, nothing more or less.

Babcock: Conklin To Start Winter Classic...?
SouthernWingsFan replied to Chelios57's topic in General
How so? Osgood hasn't played lately due to a nagging groin, playing outdoors where playing conditions can change and get much worse than indoors (I am assuming) can upset a groin more I bet. It has nothing to do with Osgood's level of play or capabilities, as he is capable. It has more to do with that fact that he has been injured and the team doesn't want to risk injuring him for longer this season, as well as Conklin taking advantage of the opportunity to start more (as unfair as it may be due to Osgood being injured) and playing better lately. -
Just like "Wax on, wax off", or the state crossing game.

In no particular order... 2002 Playoffs WCF Game 7 - 7-0 win over the Avalanche 1998 Playoffs SCF Game 2 - 5-4 OT comeback win over the Capitals 1998 Playoffs SCF Game 4 - 4-1 win over the Capitals and seeing Konstantinov wheeled around with the Cup on his lap 2008 Playoffs SCF Game 5 - 4-3 3OT loss against the Penguins, even though we lost, it was still a helluva game to watch 1996 Playoffs WC Quarterfinals Game 7 - 1-0 2OT win over the Blues, Yzerman famous OT goal 2002 Playoffs SCF Game 3 - 3-2 3OT win over the Hurricanes March 1997 brawl game against the Avalanche Brawl Game II against the Avalanche in 1998 And for me selfishly, 2008 WC Quarterfinals Game 2 - 5-1 win over the Avalanche with a Johan Franzen hat trick and probably my only ever Stanley Cup playoff game live, and probably my last for a while

Maybe, too early to tell. I think that people are forgetting he doesn't play much on the power play, even less than last year, where more point opportunities are less. And his production this year, while down from last year, isn't down all that much IMO.

Interesting, I didn't even notice that until now. I can't help it if the sheep think I have a warm and nurturing touch. I feel like I need to take a bath now.

Nope, not yet. The person below me thinks it is funny how the dialogue is messed up when curse words are editied out in movies when they are on cable TV.

Whoever gets in the all-star game, doesn't really matter to me. I have nothing against the concept of an all-star game, I'll watch this one like I watch them just about every year, but the process of picking these guys has become so corrupt that nobody really knows what the deserving factors are anymore.

Absolutely not. New Year's Eve night = fun times (responsibly) then it's up bright and early the next morning for college football bowls + the Winter Classic. Next two days shall be fun indeed.

Yep, because it is very short like I like it and I don't have to comb it at all. The person below me liked to drum on everything they saw really loudly when they were a kid.

The sentiment is nice, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Chelios out there given the "nostalgic" situation, but this game counts in the standings just like everyone else, so you put the best team possible to win the game given the current roster/injuries, etc. If this was 10 years ago, heck even 3-5 years ago, Chelios would be playing without question. Not so sure now. I wouldn't mind seeing him out there but I'm not going to lose sleep if he isn't.

Pretty much that is my beef with him in that first blurb. I have no problem with Tootoo playing an intense hard-nosed game. I have no problem with Nashville fans thinking he is a fan favorite even though he is generally hated around the league, because there will always be the home-team bias regardless of the team because face it, he does bust his tail off skating and looking to hit people. That yields passion/energy to fans. I don't hate Tootoo with a passion like plenty do around here but when he doesn't man up or sucker punch somebody from behind like he did to Robidas (?) last year in Dallas, that is what I have a problem with.

I already know how hard of game it is to play without having ever played it. I don't need a book or actual playing experience to realize how hard of a game it is. The whole "I've played hockey so I automatically know more than you" or "You don't know hockey *insert sport here* if you haven't played it" is so incredibly ridiculous and snobby. Other sports are pretty hard to play on a competitive and professional level as well. That doesn't make those sports bad.
-
So just because I don't play hockey doesn't mean I don't know anything about the sport? I watch hockey every season and catch nearly every Wings game. Yes, I happen to like watching hockey so much that it is one of my favorite sports to watch. Does that mean I have a little knowledge of the sport? Seriously, are you kidding me with this bulls**t? Do you realize how narrow minded you are being? Just because you think hockey is the greatest thing since the creation of the sliced bread doesn't mean that other sports stink. I love watching football. I used to play plenty of pick-up basketball. I like to cycle. Does that make me "less knowing" according to you? On the flip side, I don't watch baseball much, nor do I watch much in the way of golf or soccer. Does that make them bad sports just because I don't pay as much attention to them? No. I don't mean to be rude but you really sound obnoxious and ridiculous.

Because the Wings are my favorite team and I support them even if they are struggling. I'll take the boring be a fan through thick and thin attitude everytime over getting heartburn and being angry and thinking this team is going to hit rock bottom when nothing even close is suggesting these things. I used to be negative pessimistic man yelling all the time watching sports, it ain't worth it to me anymore. Made me upset. I don't like being upset. Because if I was upset, I'm not happy. And if I'm upset and not happy, it is harder being optimistic. You want to be pessimistic and get angry and think things are terrible and worry 24 hours out of the day doing that, have at it. Don't get on my case though for thinking differently when I'm not getting on yours.
