No lie. I'm not against the concept of having an all-star game in any professional sport, but I don't think much of them and usually just treat them like another run-of-the-mill regular season or preseason game even though it is a little different. Yeah, players run the risk of getting injured in a game that doesn't count, but you deal with it. Yes, it is for the fans, but a lot of times now these things are just popularity concepts. If you have halfway decent stats and are recognizable to fans/media, there's a good chance you get in. Very rarely do all-star games completely have a majority of the best players of the season that deserve to play in the all-star game. Maybe I'm not being fair, but again I think it is more of a popularity contest than getting the more deserving players out there.

Hell yes. Dinosaurs, Taz-Mania, Looney Tunes, Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats. Go back before the 90s and they were even better. The person below me thinks that Lucy Van Pelt from the Peanuts cartoons was an absolute mean *****. *shrugs*

Posted this for the most part in the other thread about Avery... I barely know much of the details regarding this but here goes... Something like this was inevitable with Sean Avery I think. If this was just a first-time offender or somebody other than Avery, that person would still be playing. People are going to yap and talk crap and say stupid things to each other on the ice or playing surface when competitive spirits are high, whatver the sport is. Plenty of things much worse that what Avery apparently said not even on the ice. However, that stuff is usually kept on the playing surface or at minimum goes to the locker room where it usually stays. Now there are definitely trash-talking instances that definitely go past the locker room and into the media, but it is usually media overhyping things, not the other way around where Avery looks like he's just wanting to be an attention-***** drama queen creating unnecessary controversy. I can be a pretty big smart allec, I like humor, blah blah blah, but sometimes you just got to know when to just stop. Avery has had plenty of chances to practice at doing this and hasn't even come close to passing. Again if it was a first-time offender, probably not much happens. But because it is Avery, he's given the boot, and as mean as this may sound he got what was coming to him and deserves this. He doesn't know his limits. Silly to be suspended for this exact lingo? Probably. Again though, consider the source. Avery is no stranger stirring crap up in the media. Yes I do get the hypocrisy of suspending Avery for something marginal like this and not a harsher sentence for Pronger with the foot stomp, etc. That's sports politics for ya, happens in every professional sport. Hopefully he'll learn some lesson through all of this for the better.

Because Babcock wants both a right and left-handed shot on the points of the power play units. Rafalski makes sense. Then you got Samuelsson, Chelios, Maltby, and McCarty. If we're talking 10 years ago, I'd take Chelios as the other right PP point man in a heartbeat. But this isn't 10 years ago. Not a hard choice to pick Samuelsson from those four.

I haven't, but that is primarily because I barely pay any attention to the broadcasters that much regardless of what the sport or game is, I usually just watch the game. The person below me understands what the parents and adults say in the Charlie Brown/Peanuts shows.

Unless the Wings just start a long streak of playing bad/losing more than winning, or if one of Osgood/Conklin gets injured, nobody is going anywhere and the goaltending will be all right.

For those of you going to this live and dealing with the cold, you are very brave. As exciting and cool as this will be with my favorite team playing in it, it is just not worth it to me to freeze my rear end off for that much money, even if I did live in/around Chicago or Detroit. And I don't mind cold weather more often than not even though I live in a generally warm climate. I normally welcome it. Hell, the low down here was around 30 this morning and it felt good going outside. But if it's around freezing where there is rain or sleet, I can't stand that weather. I went to a football game this fall and the temperature was just below 40 the whole game with consistent wind and steady rain. I watched the whole game, but being outside for nearly four hours in those conditions was not paradise. I had sweats on under my jeans and was bundled up everywhere else and I was still freezing my tail off. I'd rather it be below freezing and snowing vs. cold rain. No precipitation + cold = Good Freezing precipitation + cold = Bad, BAD BAD BAD!

Not really. While I still play video games off/on, I can live without them and life is usually too busy to possibly get attached to a video game to keep up with it on a daily basis. The person below me actually thinks Wile E. Coyote will catch the Roadrunner someday.

You are really grasping at straws to find something to complain about when somebody has 21 points in 24 games - a guy that isn't counted on to be one of your teams top scorer's and certainly isn't paid to do so. You don't like him, that's fine, but reaching this deep into the jar to find something to complain about and complain about him is a little bit ridiculous when he's producing well. He's a great bargain and he's showing it right now.
-
What do you expect the guy to do? Pick his nose and spit boogars out and just purposefully let another guy on the ice have the puck for an assist or a goal? A point is a point is a point, it shouldn't and doesn't matter if you get it in a pretty way or ugly. Points help with confidence. Tool? Don't you think you are being a little bit extreme there?
-
Depends on the team/situation. I'm not familiar with Minnesota's roster in-depth and am not trying to slight Minnesota in any way with this post. I think if you've got a veteran team though or a guy or two who's been around the block and is really respected both on the ice and off the ice, you go with one captain and keep it that way unless circumstances change in the extreme sense (major injury, attitude goes south for whatever reason, etc.). If switching captains keeps a team motivated, by all means do it.

I might give it a try. My problem is I've never exercised or worked out with any organization or schedule. I just work out usually without a whole lot of expectations or any detailed goals weeks/months down the road. Somebody explain this to me. I know weight usually flucuates a good bit throughout the day, but how can this make any sense? After Thanksgiving meals and stuff, I weigh 150. I eat fast food (for the first time in forever) last night and I weight barely over 145 pounds before doing some exercising tonight. My body is starting to get worn out though. I did a 5-mile run Thursday, worked out Saturday, rode on my bike for 40 miles yesterday, and ran 2 miles very hard today.

Texas got shafted to say the least not playing for the Big 12 title despite beating the one team in their part division that is going to and sharing the same conference record. I understand the rules that were in place to choose Oklahoma over Texas, I get that the BCS was used, no I don't hate Oklahoma or absolutely love Texas, don't care one way or another for either of them, but it is just another way how the BCS is messed up. Another is that people will probably pick Ohio State or another team lower than an undefeated Boise State team in the standings to go to a BCS game even though Boise State did everything within the rules and their schedule to go undefeated and work their way up the standings. I'm not going to waste my time and debate weaker vs. stronger schedules between those two schools stated or others because it is an endless debate which I really don't care to get into. That is probably the human element showing bias over the BCS itself though. I like bowl games as it gives me as a fan more chances to watch football, but it isn't always about getting schools to the best bowl game or the best teams in there, for the BCS at least it is about $$$$$'s first (*insert Captain Obvious statement here*). There are some parts of the BCS and bowl system that are just too political and wrong.

Nope, and I'm not going to start, because it would result in me wounding my hands, many times. The person below me has pretended to be a scary monster before, and actually scared somebody in the process.

Is Osgood Hall of Fame worthy? Yes. Should his numbers alone get him in? In all likelihood, but public perception will probably be against him getting in, and that's a shame. Will he get in? I don't know. Will it ruin my weekend if he doesn't get in? No. Do I want him to get in? Yes.
-
Nope I don't. Am I committing a crime or something? Easy there...

While the fan in me would definitely like to see Howard play more in the NHL, it's not really necessary right now. While goaltending hasn't been superb it isn't the only problem. In terms of the phrase "wake-up measures", generally speaking, any team in any sport go through lulls and losing streaks in an 80+ game season and the good teams that go through these eventually correct themselves. The Wings are a good team. They'll be fine.
