Osgood is the worst starting goalie in the league
SouthernWingsFan replied to Phazon's topic in General
That idea didn't work well last night. Although Conklin isn't the scapegoat/sole person to blame obviously. Again? As in the first time in like 10 years he let in a ceter ice goal? If Osgood is a boring goalie, and boring helps win you a Stanley Cup like it did last year, I'll take boring every single time. I'm fine with both the Wings goalies and trust both of them whenever they start. Pretty boring response as well but hey, sometimes being boring is good and gives you less heartburn. -
Me and one of my nephews on Thanksgiving. Not sure why he decided to go with the mohawk style... Myself from a long bike ride early this morning. Sorry for the crappy quality of the 2nd.

I don't prefer cough drops period, because that means I will be sick, and being sick sucks. The person below me was recently on the swingset at the playground.

While I like that Lemieux plays/played a hard-nosed game, I never have really liked him obviously due to the Draper incident and he just seemed to go overboard with the hard-nosed game sometimes. I'm all for aggressive play and hard hitting, but you got to know when to not go overboard. I got over all the heated rivalry stuff between the Avalanche and Wings though and having an utter disdain for him a long time ago and moved on from that. Don't really like him but part of me thinks this would be a cool comeback story, kinda like JR when everybody left him for dead in the water but he's cheating father time in hockey some with the Sharks.
-
Indeed he does. Have always been pretty indifferent about him overall, I get some of the cons of his game, but never really understood why he was one of the constant scapegoats over other people. I'm just not one to play The Whipping Boy Game so as a result I've developed a soft spot for Samuelsson largely for the hope to make people in here sound foolish about him from time to time.

Nope, was watching Florida-Florida State but that game has slowly turned into a blowout Florida's way, now I'm watching Texas Tech get a run for their money by Baylor of all schools to potentially ruin their Big 12 Title and BCS chances. Will flip b/w this and Alabama-Auburn before the Wings game. The person below me has attempted to take over the world like Pinky and the Brain.

I'd do neither, cause the mere thought of doing either of those is sickening. The person below me recognizes the character in my avatar and the show that he was on.

Osgood is the worst starting goalie in the league
SouthernWingsFan replied to Phazon's topic in General
Worst starting goalie in the league is a bit of a stretch. He's been bad some, so has the defense as well. A little bit of Column A, a little bit of Column B. Of the center ice gaffe, every goalie lets in a brainfart soft goalie from time to time no matter how good or bad the goalie might be. This will have little/nothing to do with the ZOMG OZZIE LET IN CENTER ICE GOALS back in 1998. While nobody can predict the future and say that Osgood will completely come back to form of last playoffs or whether he'll completely fall in the crapper, if he was the worst starting goalie in the league he would've been out of the NHL a long time ago. -
Have fun!

I want to trade them for Dan Cloutier.

I stayed home for Thanksgiving holidays, but I am pretty stressed regarding this above and a whole bunch of other things unfortunately. And I'm already sick and tired of Christmas hoopla before it has even started regarding the few posts above. I've barely even had time to think about what I want or am going to buy for people for Christmas and this Black Friday hoopla is just killing me. It is insane. I just go to get groceries today and it seems like the entire states of Texas and Oklahoma decided to shop where I went for groceries. I get Black Friday, but I think it is a pretty ridiculous day. Part of me cannot wait for it to be the New Year already. The person below me has lost their bathing suit going down a waterslide before.

I am afraid. I am very afraid.

Personally I was looking forward to learning about Hasek and Hull fighting over "The Goal" during their time in Detroit with a good old pillow fight or Boggle tournament. I am thoroughly disappointed that neither happened.

Well, under 42 minutes was definitely not realistic. I ran a 5-mile run today in 43:30, around 8:42 a mile. Not too bad, I was getting destroyed by everybody who were serious runners and ran cross country and stuff at the beginning of the race, but I still had a lot of gas left in the tank towards the end and started picking my pace up passing people who were starting to tire. I just want to get my hands on one of my cousins who ran the race who is only 13 I think. He ran it in 38 minutes, the punk. Nevertheless, I want to run faster and want to try to run in more events like this. I might do a 10K race (6.3 miles) in mid-December, and a half-marathon (13.1 miles) in the beginning of February. I know I am in plenty of shape to run over 6 miles without any problems. 13 miles in one setting, I'm not so sure. I just hope I still have the want to do stuff like this after just today and to train for these things just about every day, it'd definitely help me in the mental aspect just as much as the physical right now as I'm having a hard time coping with a lot of personal issues lately.

He had his chances. So did Lebda and Lilja and Meech to play their way off the Red Wings roster. Grand Rapids playing time over the past few seasons. And also, and I'll stress again, the time period where it was going to be apparent that a lower-tiered defenseman would have to be traded or waived if he didn't step up his play to fit into the Red Wings system. Quincey didn't do enough to play his way on the Red Wings roster full time. Lebda and Lilja and Meech didn't do enough to play their way off the Red Wings roster to be traded or waived. Quincey may be playing better than the other lower-tiered defensemen right now. But given the time period to where somebody was going to be traded or waived, as well as previous playing time professionally and in the minors, he didn't step up his game to remain on the Wings. And it is a safe bet that even if he were on the Wings still now, he wouldn't be putting these numbers up since there still would be a logjam on defense and he'd either be a scratch or on the 3rd line, and the Kings defense just isn't as good. I don't get why this is so difficult to understand. Quincey definitely had his chances to stay with the Wings, and he didn't follow through. He didn't do enough to justify Lebda or Meech or Lilja being waived or traded. I like the kid, hope he does well with his career, but the dismay of losing him versus the other lower-tiered defensemen is getting a little silly here.

Sloppy defense has been the main culprit for losses so far, but lately it's also been lack of hard work, not skating/grinding, etc.
-
While I cannot accurately comment 100% on the first blurb since I didn't watch hockey back in the old days in-depth and wasn't old enough to, how many butterfly style goalies did you see back then, even in just watching highlights or whatever? I can't think of any. Goaltending now is a little different, not as much stand-up, etc. etc. I'm all for pad reduction as well, but that isn't the sole reason to possibly improve scoring. It's not all because of pad size alone.
-
Again, overall over the past few seasons given the time period used to judge the lower-tiered defensemen, Quincey had every opportunity to show that he was worth more than Lebda, Lilja, or Meech. And Lebda and Lilja had plenty of chances to possibly screw the pooch up enough to warrant a trade or being waived on the professional level. Yes I do understand that Quincey was primarily in the minors. He still had his chances to impress though or waiting for the others to screw up enough to where he got more playing time professionally. If Quincey did want to stay here, he has nobody to blame but himself for not stepping his game up and Lebda, Lilja and Meech apparently showed more than Quincey during the given time period. It is about fitting the best personnel you got given the salary cap and injury situations and the like. If Quincey would've fit better than the others or played better than them, he would be staying. I like the kid but the frustration of seeing him gone is a little overboard I think.

Tough choices. At the end of last year, I would've probably chose Flipper without much hesitation. Right now though, Hudler is providing the best bang/buck though while Flipper is struggling a bit. I know Flipper is labeled more as a defensive-type player but from scoring nearly 20 goals last year and having a solid playoffs, you'd think he'd have some more production right now. I was never on the Samuelsson whipping boy train thankfully. Wouldn't have really been all that fun to begin with. He's far from my favorite but I never really understood how he was just downright horrible last season to deserve the status, and he's played really well this year so far. I am glad to have all three with the Wings right now though.
-
That first blurb makes some sense and isn't out the realm of possibility. With the people who are still ticked that he's not there anymore, for me it comes down to all the lower-tiered defensemen knowing the situation in Wings pre-season/early season. They knew that one of them would not be with the Wings this season sooner than later based on their play on the ice given the time period of training/pre-season/early season. Fair? Perhaps not, but life is almost never fair these days. I don't get preseason coverage not living in Michigan obviously, but say if Quincey wanted to remain on the Wings as opposite of what YoungGuns is suggesting, he has nobody to blame but himself for not stepping up his play as compared to others on the chopping block at the time in Meech, Lebda, and Lilja. Did I like Quincey? Of course. But you can't keep everybody and while it'd be nice if he was still with Detroit, this isn't a huge, catastrophic loss.

Considering I'm a crappy cook and would probably burn the house down trying to bake a pie, negative. The person below me thinks this is funny (warning: language at the beginning).

Helm up, McCarty tp GR (+ line combos vs Habs)

And it's pretty evident you are acting well under the age of 25 with your insults of people. Nobody's forcing you to stay on here. -

As has been stated already, the only people this really effects is the ones that get soaked dreams about seeing a fight. I like a good scrap just like anybody else but the ones who scream like groupie teenage girls when they hear their favorite boy band song really need to get a grip and get off their soapboxes when it comes to fights and toughness. I like fighting. I like enforcers. I'd hang out with a fighter or an enforcer and buy a fighter or enforcer a beer. Some others like fighting more. Some others like enforcers more. Great. Hang out with a fighter or an enforcer and buy a fighter and enforcer two beers instead of one. Nothing wrong with that. Nobody is going to get on your case for liking this more, at least not me. But your liking of this a lot more is resulting in your act and drama queen rants that this team is soft and in deep s**t. And it is beyond ridiculous, it is tiring, and pathetic. That I will get on your case for all day. Lay off the idiot fuel. Please. I'm begging you. I'll even buy you a beer if you do. I might even do your Christmas shopping and pick up the tab.
