Like most others I'm assuming, I'm ready to get these damn elections over with. However I guess I'm failing to see the connection of why this specific P.R. opportunity is so bad. It's just a ceremonial puck drop. Takes all but 3 minutes like any other ceremonial puck drop whether it is by a political figure or a past athlete or whomever. I highly doubt she's going to be out there to give a 20 minute speech on views or yell vote my party or you're an idiot.

In all seriousness, in terms of 1-goal contests so far, I really don't know what to tell you other than that 1-goal contests aren't unusual and since the Wings won the Cup, they'll be getting everybody's best effort at least, more often than not. Whether that has any big direct correlation with 1-goal contests, I dunno. Just doesn't seem like much of something to read into, especially being so early in the season.

99 times out of 100 officiating will always be inconsistent, and in the Wings specific game last night, there will probably be Wings fans that cry foul on a lot of calls that Blues fans think nothing happened, and vice versa. You can sub any 2 team names in there and the same will probably hold true to a certain degree. There's almost always going to be some bias from fans, generally speaking, trying to sway that the referees missed calls or were against the fan's favorite team. Just part of the game and it isn't going to change anytime in the near future. And this holds true in almost any sport. Because of this I try not to worry too much about how the referees performed or and rarely try to use them as an excuse why a team won or lost.

I am assuming you meant penalty kill instead of power play? But what about 5-6 years from now when some more new faces roll in and he probably still isn't in his prime age of his career yet being in his mid-20s. Theoretically speaking if his play doesn't drop off much and discounting "attention" he gets, would you consider not so much a trade to bring him in, but wanting him on our team?

Hell, if we're going to think outside the box, let's think big. Let the goalies use handguns. In all seriousness, unless Osgood's play falls in the s**tter which I'm not counting on, no need to change much. Osgood gets 2-3 games, Conklin comes in. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

^ Osgood is nowhere close to being in danger in losing his starting job. Defense hasn't been good to help him out so far this season. On the specific poll questions, yes I think Homer can score 40 goals this season, but it'll be a stretch given his recent crappy luck of help, just a matter of staying fully healthy and seeing if he stays with linemates that can help continue to set him up in front of the net. Datsyuk's most important stat there is assists. Takeaways and defense are key obviously, but I highly doubt there will be much of a dropoff if any in regards to that and Datsyuk, so I'm focusing more on his playmaking/setting others up for goals. No opinion on the specific answers for the last poll question since I think defense is the biggest problem right now and it wasn't listed.

I personally never said I thought a Datsyuk and Zetterberg trade for Crosby straight up would be a good idea. In the end, I wouldn't trade either of them for Crosby. However, the idea of trading one of them for Crosby is not that insane of an idea as much as you might think it is. I'm not bent over shape about the whining bit at all as it happens everywhere and has happened plenty in here. You're the one that seems to be all bent out of shape about it or with what I think about it in general judging by your loud and hostile tone towards me. Why so? Crosby whines sometimes to the referees or media. Good for him. So does pretty much everybody else. Datsyuk whined and cursed up a storm to the refs on one of Holmstrom's phantom interference calls which waived off a goal in a playoff game. I remember seeing Yzerman go apes**t one game charging out of the penalty box screaming a referee's head off during a road game years and years ago, Nashville I think. I've whined nearly every day the past few weeks about the stock market going into the crapper. Many people around where I live complained when their assessments increased well over 100% when real estate in general is in the crapper. Screech always complained when he couldn't get a date on Saved By the Bell. I had players ***** and complain to me nearly every call/no-call I made when I was a basketball and soccer ref in college. Who hasn't whined or complained at some point in their life when we don't always get our way? You may think the whining is in gest, but plenty of people in here use the whining bit as a major factor of why they wouldn't consider having Crosby on their team, saying he doesn't present himself with "class" or "dignity", and that Wings players will never do such things. That's splitting hairs a bit too much I think. While I love my Wings, they aren't perfect gentlemen all the time, and it is pretty unrealistic to think they will be 100% perfect in behavior or etiquette. And we are the same people that whine just as much about officials or the media as the next player on any NHL or professional team. Seems pretty convenient when whining is generally frowned upon, but is all right all of a sudden when you, I, or other people in here take part in it. Is whining a factor that defines an athlete? Of course. Is it that important? No. Why is it that Crosby gets so much of the focus because of this? Because he's young and a captain and we recently played the Penguins in the Finals? Why not consider other leaders or players in regards to "complaining"? Why just him?

Yippidefreakingdo, yet another thread on how the Wings are f'ed if no enforcer is in the lineup. *sigh* Slim/none that another team will pick up McCarty. It is just like putting Downey on waivers recently for salary cap/roster room purposes. Waivers are not the end-of-all-end death knells on a player leaving a team. I'm not sure why that is so difficult to understand, especially for guys like McCarty or Downey who have such little chance of being claimed by other teams. As for the whole enforcer bit, I pray that talk about it in this thread ends in a very quick fashion.

Yep. And the difference of the biterness et al is that Shanahan left on "good" terms, Fedorov didn't. I like Fedorov, but fans realy devoted to Fedorov cannot convince me otherwise that Fedorov didn't leave on bad terms. Whether he was to blame, or management was to ultimately blame, we will never fully know and I don't care to figure out who was to blame most/least in Fedorov leaving in a bittersweet fashion. Shanahan knew it was time to move on at the time, while mgmt. did offer him another contract if I'm not mistaken he pretty much made it fairly clear, at least from what I read after the Wings got eliminated early by Edmonton, that he was sad to leave but knew it was time to pursue other opportunities, and there was never any major drama involved in this decision or Shanahan's career with the Wings.

Nicely stated Hank. In terms of Maltby, I never saw it happen during his old days but I'm going by with what I read in here that he suffered a major eye injury during his Edmonton years. So I understand to a certain degree to where he stops like that, but I get where you are coming from. Yep, and even our beloved Yzerman, The Captain, complained every now and then. Pretty much anybody and everybody complains during a game or to the press at some point in their career, regardless of the athlete, regardless of the sport. The ZOMG CROSBY IS A WHINER line doesn't really do much for me since pretty much everybody whines. Yep. I never thought too highly of Bertuzzi obviously due to what happened with him years and years ago but I never really had hateful or venegeful thoughts concerning him. I was a little excited and curious when he got traded to the Wings, but it was pretty funny/ironic to me how pre-Wings, so many people loathed Bertuzzi like crazy, but all those thoughts changed for a lot of people during his brief stint at Detroit. Now, not so much as he's generally disliked again I think. Yep.
