I have to support the couple of posts in here the Avery also brings some publicity, for better or worse with his opinions sometimes, to non-sports and non-sports media outlets. With Avery specifically, I've had a few "What the f**k" moments in terms of controversial things he has said when he's opened his mouth. More often than not, I hate drama and drama queens, I tend to try to ignore any extra/excess fluff or commentary that analysts might talk about for 30 hours straight, I just try to tend to watch the game, whatever sport it may be. Even though I might hate outspokenness sometimes, people might not like Avery because he shoots his mouth off, or whatever else, "entertainment" stuff like this sells, it gets plenty of people's attention. Avery can certainly learn to keep his lid shut sometimes (and what I'm about to say conflicts with what I said in my last blurb), but there's something to be said for people that aren't afraid to speak their mind, even though it might sometimes backfire on him.

The Atlanta Falc- Thrashers' third jerseys unveiled!
SouthernWingsFan replied to Cern's topic in General
Anything is better than their current light blue jersey with half of it striped on one arm and the other half plain. This one could be a lot worse. I really liked their navy blue jerseys they used to wear when teams wore dark jerseys on the road. Should have never put those into retirement. -
...especially the bolded types.

When I went to a playoff game against the Avs this past spring, I paid $10 and parked in a Greektown parking lot and took the People Mover. I usually try to be Captain Johnny on the Spot when it comes to saving dollars, but when I'm not completely familar with my surroundings, no matter what/where the city is, I'm not parking on city streets in a downtown area. I'm going to pay a little extra to be in a decent parking lot or a parking garage.

Excellent vintage look which I am totally for, although I liked their recent 3rd jersey look of their black jerseys.

Not too shabby at all...

I think we all know more/less what he's doing these days, but it's always refreshing to me to read or hear about stories like this one and to share with others. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../810070327/1128

Maltby and loyalty isn't preventing the Wings from doing anything. True his best days are behind him, but if he were such a detriment to this team he would've been gone a long while ago. He was injured some during the playoffs, yes, but even when he was healthy as the playoffs went along, he was a healthy scratch a few times. How is that hurting the team? If Maltby didn't play anymore, I wouldn't notice too much because his best days are probably behind him as I stated. I don't have a problem with him in though, he's not holding a young kid back or anything to where the young kid's career is threatened. On the whole "loyalty" bit, I think that could be a detriment if you are loyal to so many players if your sports franchise is in a bad spurt or you have bad teams. It isn't a detriment to the Red Wings though, because they have proven over and over again that you can be loyal to your employees/players who have been with the organization for a while, yet still be in the playoffs year in and year out and have a legitmate chance to win the Stanley Cup every year.

Want To Read Terrible Hockey Predictions?
SouthernWingsFan replied to DatsyukownzU13's topic in General
As sports journalists/analysts, this is part of their job to make predictions and guesses, as well as create some controversy by getting fans riled up with some predictions. It's worked in here. You want to pick 'em or compare or complain to them about it? Write back to them or apply for a sports journalist job. It isn't that mind-boggling to pick Crosby for a few things or for the Sharks to finally get over the hump (no pun intended) or the Rangers to make a deep run or for Dallas to possibly unseat Detroit. On paper Detroit has a roster that is second-to-none but the game isn't played on paper and I can bet you recent early round playoff losses aren't easily forgotten even though the Wings won a Cup last year. -
http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/8647152...eat-in-the-West Looks like this guy is predicting playoff seeding order, although it technically doesn't say so. Anyways, here are his playoff guesstimations. Click the link to read more details. Detroit San Jose Edmonton Dallas Anaheim Chicago Minnesota Phoenix

Excellent work there Superdeluxe. Nothing really new in terms of weight management with me, still at a weight that is healthy and that I am content with, but I've been keeping up with working out really well lately despite life and work being extremely busy. I've worked out 5 out of the last 6 days both lifting weights and cardio just about every day. This afternoon I had a damned good workout where I just found an extra gear. I lifted weights a little heavier than normal and I did cardio for 30 minutes, and I burned off 420 calories. That's plenty given my build and relatively slender weight for my height.

Pretty much a copy/paste job in the lineup thread around the top here, but here it is... I've only seen one preseason game on TV on NHL Network so I don't know the in's and out's of what's happened this preseason, and I'm a pretty big idiot, but I'm going to still go on my assumptions that Helm and Leino would be better suited with more ice time in the minors vs. just 5 minutes on a 4th line with the big club. With that in mind, I have the final forward spot with a physical/enforcer focus with Downey getting a slight edge over McCarty. Downey was pretty bad yesterday, but I can't judge fairly off just 1 game seen and I think Downey brings the enforcement aspect a little bit better than Mac, while McCarty this day/age won't bring too much more on the offensive side. And we're not looking for this final forward spot to provide offense first. Regardless of who it is, you won't see much griping from my end. Downey showed the importance of having a tough guy prescence on your team for most of the regular season. Sure he didn't play in the playoffs where the enforcement role is much, much less, but you also got to consider that most minor league hockey action is over and say if Downey or Mac have that final roster spot technically, you still have more players available to you in the NHL playoffs due to minor league playoff action being over. If Helm or Leino get the final spot though, not really a huge problem to have. We all saw how well Helm perfromed under pressure last year, and from what I've read about Leino and the praise you might just have no choice but to choose him.

I just flipped on VS for a sec and a blurb said NHL coverage opens on Thursday starting at 6:30 ET/5:30 CT. Whether that means they start Cup ceremony coverage at 6:30/5:30 or pre-game studio stuff, I don't know, but if you are out of the Detroit or Michigan area this should tell you when to tune in your TV/VCR/DVR. At least it tells me that because I'm going on vacation for a few days and am departing on Thursday.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3627230 I'm not familiar with the ins/outs of this, and I know hockey is an international game as well, but I'd initally think putting a focus on making the game more popular with people at HOME in U.S. Canada is more important than expanding the league in European countries. And travel costs would obviously be out the wazoo.

I've been in/around the area a few times. Last time I just stayed in Dearborn. Nice suburb and convenient as it's probably just 5-10 minutes east from the airport, and about a 10 minute drive into the downtown area/JLA from the west. Dearborn has some good places to eat or drink at, nothing extravagent compared to any other place you might see, but still good food/restaurants, etc. If you are looking for something hockey-themed, Cheli's Chili is there, as well as in downtown area but I'm not sure where it is exactly in downtown. Greektown area in downtown is small but good food/hangout spots there as well. Comerica Park where the Tigers play and Hockeytown Cafe are nearby as well. Downtown is a good little area to explore. If you have time to drive a little north Hockeytown Authentics is in Troy although that's a decent drive from the airport/downtown area. Royal Oak is a little north as well but that's also a real nice suburb.

While I like a good organized fight like any other guy and I'll probably watch a fight for a few minutes on TV if I'm channel surfing, I don't go ga-ga over this stuff and really didn't care that badly to see this even though it was probably promoted like nuts to fight fans. Not that I hate this stuff, far from it, it's just rarely on my radar of things I watch first. I've heard of Kimbo obviously and seen a few street clips of him but I guess I didn't get how big a deal this was, seeing him in a cage fight for the first time. It was actually blacked out/tape delayed down here because of local goverment election coverage. Guess I didn't miss much. I saw a YouTube clip of it this morning and while I'm not discrediting the hit the guy threw on Kimbo, you would've thought Kimbo just wouldn't have fallen on just one punch.

You are basing a relatively minor injury based off just a few preseason games that don't count for much? It's not like he blew an ACL out or something. I think you are jumping the gun a little bit. Injuries both serious and small/nagging are a part of life any sport for any player.

Sports writers are good at writing pieces to stir up controversy or get people riled to some degree with some comments that would be made out of left field. Probably just doing something to stir the boiling pot between fans of both teams, although it is hard for me to take this seriously. Satan is a decent player, but I'll take Hossa over him 99 times out of 100.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/preview2008/...ge=nhlpre08/det Nothing too out of the ordinary in this written by Tampa Bay's former GM, other than him saying that Datsyuk and Zetterberg will play together on the same line more often than not.
