Now that's just....ew. I'm sorry, too, too skinny.

Oh yeah?! Well, :punch: :battle: Just kidding with ya.

In terms of the Osgood comment specifically I'll agree with you. Osgood may not be the most glamorous or exciting goalie out there, but he's as mentally tough as they come and doesn't get rattled. However, I highly doubt that this was all that Clement talked about. Just because he might not be drinking Red Wings Kool-Aid like plenty of us do in here doesn't make him an idiot. On paper the Wings defiintely have the roster and talent to make a serious run at repeating as champs, but the game isn't played on paper or in a sports forum. There are plenty of reasons why the Wings might not repeat, we could all easily list them. Besdies, it's easy for people who's devotion isn't for the defending champion to find reasons why they won't win, or to root for the underdog playing the champion. Wanting to see David beat Goliath. Also, if everybody picked the Red Wings to win, things would get a little more boring and predictable to talk about in that sense.

You may not like the guy or want him to hang up his skates. That's fine. Sometimes I wander why Chelios is still playing as well. But to wish injury on him or a career-ending injury on him or anybody, I don't care who the player may be, is crossing the line like many have said in here.

Yep. It's hard to keep up that type of production year in/year out when you are one of the best. It would be natural at some point for your stats to take somewhat of a decline. I didn't read any of what Cherry had to say, but I highly doubt he said anything close to implying that Ovechkin was a hack or terrible. Because it is him though and his negative bias more towards European players to start (whether it is legitimate or not) and more pro towards North Americans or "rugged" type players, along with him usually being more outspoken, he's going to get ripped on more because of it. Cherry is just being Cherry. Loud and opinionated. Annoying sometimes? Yes, but nothing to get a hissy fit over.

Funny Interview with Sean Avery on CBCs The Hour
SouthernWingsFan replied to 12Newf's topic in General
No lie. Like him or not, you got to still have guys like Avery around for the entertainment value and WTF comments. Whether he'll ever learn to shut his yapper when needed sometimes remains to be seen (probably not ), but he's developed into a definite 3rd liner/2nd liner on occassion with a respectable scoring touch now. -
Excellent pictures of the both of you, in both instances of all people. That sounds confusing.

Hell if you can genetically splice all three somehow and combine them into one person, the person would be like............A SUPERHUMAN!!!! Or something...

I know it's the cool thing to like the new kid on the street or latest gadget in the stores, and I'd definitely like to see more of what guys like Abdlekader and Leino could do, but you want them to replace guys like Samuelsson and Maltby after just a handful of preseason games, plus just 2 regular season games for another one of these guys? I think we're getting way ahead of ourselves here. Be patient, these guys are going to get their chances in the NHL, but I don't think it's the best idea to do it after just limited games where either the results don't matter or two late regular season games when your status for the playoffs has already been determined.

Nah, was still thinking of Sopel. Just not really familiar with the a lot of the rosters other than the big names outside of the Wings.
-
Explain... Huh? Just because I might not be as familiar with certain teams or follow hockey 24-7-365 like others in here doesn't mean I know squat about hockey. It just means I don't know as much about certain teams or rosters. I made a guess and I was wrong, give me a break. I'm sorry, but I blanket statements like your first one really piss me off just because I don't follow the NHL around the tube, or get maybe 1 or 2 questions wrong out of 10 on a quiz related to hockey, or because I don't play the sport, just watch it, or becuase I don't have 1000 different hockey action figures, or whatever else. If I were a Vancouver Canucks fan, I'd probably be on a Vancouver Canucks forum more or know more about their players. But I'm not, and I don't have time to dilly around on sports news for 15 hours out of the day, even though it'd be nice to sometimes. I am a Red Wings fan, hence me being on a Red Wings forum. That means I don't know much about the current makeup of the Vancouver, but I do know some things about hockey. Understood?
-
That's wishful thinking there to say the least with those two right now.
-
It is the preseason. Samuelsson has been with this club for 3 seasons now, 4th upcoming. It's going to take a lot more than just 2 or 3 preseason games for one newbie and another almost newbie to knock Samuelsson out of the lineup.

I'm not too big into the rivalries thing that much to where you just absolutely loathe a team or whatever else. The Wings-Avalanche rivalry settling down as well as where I went to college not really having much of a huge neighboring rival in sports contributed to this. I understand the fan aspect of rivalries and hating teams, but I just don't get into it and don't really despise any teams that badly. But, for the sake of the thread, I'll play. For the WC playoffs, Chicago and Anaheim. It looks to be turning into a competitve matchup with the Blackhawks again, and I'd like to see the Wings avenge the playoff elimination from the Ducks two years ago as the primary reason for being Anaheim. No real preference for a 3rd WC team. For who I'd like to beat in the Stanley Cup Finals, I'm not really sure. I don't really share in much of the disliking of Pittsburgh like some did here during the Finals and after, and I don't really watch much of the Eastern Conference to where I really like a team or want the Wings to play against a team to make it exciting. By default, I'll go with any of the Original-Six teams in that conference.

Yep. If I'm not mistaken aren't the Canucks close to say bye-bye to one/both of the Sedin brothers, or are those just rumors at this point? Regardless, the only people that I can name on the Canucks immediately off the top of my head are Luongo and Sopel. Luongo is the face of the team essentially. While goalies technically can't be captains on the ice during the game, that doesn't mean he can't be the leader/captain of the team in practices, giving advice, leadership, and so forth.

Cheli's Chili Bar is all right, I went to the one in Dearborn. Great for hockey decorum obviously, and your ordinary grilled/fried food at a casual restaurant. Food's pretty good.

Lidstrom to most-likely wear visor full-time...
SouthernWingsFan replied to Shutemdown's topic in General
^ That barely resembles anything he looks like now. -
Nice for references and comparisons and a pretty interesting way of looking at things, but here's my 2 pennies, and keep in mind I can be a pretty big imbecile... More often than not I think you repeat as a champion, or just winning one championship any given year, largely because of a combination of your roster being just so good, luck, good health, being hot during the postseason, as well as inferior competition to some degree. I've only watched hockey since the mid-90s so I've only seen one repeat in terms of the Wins, and Montreal and the NY Islanders put together solid runs before I started watching. In the NBA, the Celtics had an 8-year defense one time, and Chicago had two 3-peats when Jordan-Scottie Pippen were with the Bulls. So, a very talented roster in any sport can help in a repeat. And, the Wings certainly have such a roster on paper to give them a realistic chance at repeating. Games aren't played though on paper or in a sports forum, a team has to have other good things going for them as explained above.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3614334 While I'm all for making the NHL more popular, you got to wander if they are taking this idea of playing a few games to start the season in Europe a little overboard, even if it is just a few games to start a season.

Waivers. Waivers, waivers, waivers. Helm does not have to deal with and worry about being claimed off waivers by another team right now. He's only in his early twenties. As long as he doesn't have a career threatening injury and his doesn't go down the tubes, he'll eventually be playing with the big boys full-time sooner than later. Playing nearly 20 minutes in the minors is better for his development though vs. 5 minutes a game with the big boys given his young age and not having to worry about waivers.

Green Jelly - Three Little Pigs Some good silly music.

While I don't think Deveraux is utterly useless like some people on here have portrayed in the past, you have to be really drunk to make a statement like the original poster on the other forum did there.
-
Meh, don't sweat it, you get the holier than thou attitude in here sometimes (as well as in other sports forum). Sometimes people expecting you to know everything and anything about the forums or you're a complete imbecile. Pretty stupid sometimes, I know. You made an accident that you had no clue you made, don't even worry about it, there are worse tragedies in life.

A little late on responding and I'm probably repeating stuff people have already said but here goes... I've been to a few games in Detroit in the past. Take the word of locals over me but from my experiences downtown is safe pretty much everywhere. Greektown area in downtown is small, but plenty of good hangout spots and places to eat. Last time I was literally just there for a day and a half catching a playoff game so I just stayed in Dearborn since it was close to the airport and downtown. If you have time maybe go there, Henry Ford Museum is there which is a great place to visit, and Dearborn is a nice suburb with a lot of good eats and hangout spots as well.

Sometimes your career goals require you to work in a different city or area away from where you have been for a long while, in any profession. I hope for nothing but the best for Yzerman, whether it is in Detroit or anywhere else.
