    New Font?

I wouldn't sweat it that much, this is nothing like goalie threads or the Samuelsson/Lilja Daily Bashing Thread of the Week. Unfortuantely in all different sports forums, every now and then you comes across Mr. Know it All posts and if you don't know anything and everything about trivia of your favorite team, you are stupid and you shouldn't ask. And that's a shame to me when the holier than thou attitude because chases people off into corners where people might just stick to Water Cooler or Other Sports or Between Periods or whatever else, since I want all members here to particpate in general discussion more. No doubt that it isn't always a happy cheery place in here, but you got to cut some people some slack sometimes if they don't know something. This thread and your question is a good example unfortunately. Don't feel bad or embarassed to ask the question, I often wandered the same thing when seeing pre-season highlight clips and such. If somebody gives you attitude when it isn't necessary, just give them the finger. ---------- Also, I have no idea what an e-penis is, but I think I might have nightmares about one trying to sleep tonight.

What are you checking out then, the left numeral or the right numeral? Wait that is font related as well so I guess I am incorrect.

    Hossa gives his opinion...

I think Hossa is on the ball there in terms of their offensive games and playmaking ability. I see both of them similar in terms of leadership as well, where Datsyuk was before/Crosby is now, and where Datsyuk is now/Crosby is trying to be. People I think were wandering seasons ago if Datsyuk was going to be one of those leaders on/off the ice, and he has all but answered that question. And unless something unforseen happens, Crosby will reach such status very soon, and perhaps already has depending on how you look at it. For those who say he shouldn't be captain at 20 years old, if his teammates and staff didn't think he had it in him to be a leader so soon, they wouldn't have chose him captain at such an early age. Yzerman was captain pretty darn early as well when not many people were pretty sure how he was going to pan out just yet at the time. Also, for those who have said that Crosby whines and is a crybaby and he shouldn't be a captain if he does that, pretty much any player and their 3rd cousin's son whines at some point in their career either to the refs or the media or wherever else. Regardless of their ages, these are two of the better players in the league today. How great they are/who is the best in the entire league, that's entirely subjective and an endless debate.

    Hockeystreams.com

I got an intro on it last night (didn't pay anything yet) and from what I've read, everybody seems more than satisfied, and in this thread as well. Like Shockwave though, I'm just worried about the legalities of it even though it is a helluva deal.

    Claude Lemieux

I hope that you are right about this, at least from Lemieux's end. Where/when did you read or hear about this? Got a source? Incorrect. Incorrect by a long, LONG shot. Nobody is portraying him out to be a demi-god, but nobody is ever going to believe you in your melodramatic portrayal of him being pitiful. And that "goal" you speak of, was the game-winning goal of the final game of a Stanley Cup Final. It is pretty significant no matter how much you want to deny it because of whatever reasons you have disliking McCarty. What were you saying about him in the playoff game he scored a hat trick against the Avs in 2002. How about a few games later where he helped the Wings seal the deal against the Avs to go to the SCF that year? Why do you have so much beef with McCarty anyway? Bad experience with him in the past? If you don't like the guy (or anybody for that matter), that's fine, but don't let that make you have such a ridiculous bias to dismiss that he was/has been a useful player during his career given the roles he normally played. And again, while what Lemieux did to Draper was inexcusable and I'll never forget it, I've "moved on" or put the anger/resentment of it behind me. If Lemieux makes a comeback, great, more power to him and it'd be a cool story. And I would really like to believe you that Lemieux apologized. I hope that is the case. Where is the source/documentation other than coming from your statement, just another average Joe fan like myself and pretty much everybody else in here who have no ties to anybody close to the sport professionally? He has no reason to apologize for the hard-nosed/big hit/clutch scoring game that he brought about, but when you dent somebody's face like he did to Draper, you apologize when a hit like that goes too far.

    Number 44?

Very stand up thing to say. How can you not like this guy's attitude on hockey/working/life?

    Toronto Star Yzerman article

Like any other job or career, sometimes you have to leave a job or company or city you've been working at for a long time if you want to advance. Steve Yzerman is one of the first things (or people in this example) that you think of when you think of Detroit Red Wings hockey, but if he really wants to be a GM of a professional franchise, he might have to go elsewhere down the road. That's life sometimes. There will be no hard feelings or resentment from me if he decides to work somewhere else.

    Hockeystreams.com

Nice, never heard of this. While I can definitely afford NHL Center Ice spending roughly $100 more, with everything being just so ridiculously expensive nowadays saving every little bit helps. Are they broadcasting pre-season games at all? I'm in no hurry to watch a bunch of pre-season games since they don't count, but I'm going on vacation right on season opening day so I might not be watching games for a few days, try it out before vacation and get it out of the way. Is it possible to just view a sample for maybe 10-15 minutes or do you still have to sign up? I had NHL Center Ice Online last year, and while more often than not the quality was good in terms of picture, sometimes the action was choppy and it took a while for the online feed to catch up and get back to normal.

Direct TV, FSN Detroit HD Inquiry

I use a local cable provider here, but it has been my experience/knowledge/assumption that even if you have any of the sports packages for Direct TV or Dish, professional-league games (NHL, NBA, MLB, etc.) are blacked out, regardless of where you are with the sports packages, unless you would get a regional Fox Sports or other regional sports station like normal on regular cable. If they weren't, that basically makes NHL Center Ice or NBA League Pass or MLB Extra Innings useless, so it makes sense blacking the games out. I am pretty sure though that there are no games blacked out for things like college football or hockey though since those aren't affiliated with a professional sports offering like Center Ice or League Pass obviously.

    Kopecky hit on Carle video

Easy there. It's the preseason, the final score doesn't really matter during preseason games.

Long day at work followed by a few house chores will make anybody not type straight. Or it could actually be the beers that I haven't been drinking tonight. It's a mystery.

Final Forward Spot: Skill or Muscle?

I agree with Holland and company that enforcers are being "phased out" by the league per se, but they aren't dead. Fighting rarely occurs in the playoffs unless a game just gets really out of hand on the scoreboard, so enforcers who can barely do squat offesively won't play as much. That's a given and I've accepted that and have no problem with that. Downey didn't play every regular season game last year, but stuff like what happened in the game at Colorado where Lidstrom got injured is a good example of why enforcers still have some use. Stuff like that won't happen every game and other teams won't be taking liberties against the Wings every game like some people on here might portray or fear, but unless a guy like Leino or Helm or a fringe NHLer just absolutely kicks butt during the preseason to where he deserves a full-time gig on the Wings, I'd rather see the final forward/reserve spot for an enforcer. I'd love to see Helm up here with the Wings more this season, but it wouldn't do much good just sticking him on a 4th line playing only 5 minutes a night when he could play 15+ in the minors continuing to develop his game. The NHL isn't going away soon, guys like Helm will eventually be on an NHL team full time as long as they develop. Point is there is no rush to bring along guys like these for an "extra roster spot" assuming everybody is healthy. Use that extra roster spot for an enforcer I say.

    Claude Lemieux

Regarding the major incidents that Lemieux and Bertuzzi had, I'm over them. That doesn't mean what they did was right or acceptable, not even close. Their incidents were inexcusable, and while you never forget something that happens like what Lemieux did to Draper or Bertuzzi did to Moore, but as has been mentioned on here in this thread already, there has to be a point, at least for me, to let bygones be bygones and when you are at ease with it and aren't bitter or angry. I know there are just assumed people for other teams that are "Public Enemy #1" to a lot of Red Wings fans, or fans of any team for that matter, but for me when it comes down to it, if public enemy #1 came to play for the Red Wings or one of my other favorite teams, I'd be welcoming of public enemy #1 (with some personal reservations of course) if people within the sports organization think he can help out the team. But in the end it is about the team, not the player's name on the back of the jersey. I understand hating players through thick and thin or holding grudges towards other teams as a sports fan, but that's just something I rarely take part in. If Lemieux wants to try to make a comeback, more power to him.

I recently bought a case of Red Stripe. First time I had the beer from Jamaica in probably a few beers. Everybody knows it obviously but I forgot how good and sweet it tastes, it rivals Abita Amber as one of my favorites.

    Claude Lemieux

Was he active at all playing hockey in a competitive fashion after he hung them up in the NHL. As much as we didn't like him during the height of the Wings-Avs years, if he wants to try to come back, more power to him to try to do something (or do something again) that he loves.
