    LGW Fit Club

Congrats to all with your recent successes. I actually lost a good bit of weight these past few weeks, at one point last week I was under 140, but I didn't lose it in a good way. I've barely worked out in the past few weeks because things down here have been pretty nuts with Hurricane Gustav, and Ike to a lesser extent, that things now are only slowly coming back to normal here. Also, I've had a few personal stresses that I've been trying to cope with all at the same time. It doesn't happen much, but when a lot of stress hits me all at once, I usually am shocked and overwhelmed by it to where I just worry obsessively and it prevents me from doing much, and if I'm really stressed out, I tend to eat less. I'm finally getting my head out of my rear end though and taking proactive steps to dealing with things though, and I'm finally working out again close to a normal routine and eating normal again, and my weight is "up" to just under 145 when I weighed myself this morning. I never thought I'd be thrilled to gain some weight but in this case, it's probably a good exception.

    2008 College Football Thread

I know smack talking and things like that are part of the game and being a fan and good-natured ribbing can obviously be fun, but it's something I generally don't like to get into that much as you get people who will just get carried away and over the top. I just like watching games regardless of how big or miniscule the game or rival may be or if the game is an easy win or an obvious loss. And every team or school, all of our schools included, have their share of a'hole or obnoxious fans. With that being said, some of my experiences... The school I went to hosted Texas Tech a few seasons ago which I went back up for, and the few TT fans I tried to have a civil icebreaker conversation with were a bunch of jerks. They acted like my school was the little nobody and that they were the greatest gift to football. Well, we held them to just three points that day... And as much of a fan I am of LSU, I just can't stand a lot of fans here that root for them. A lot of them think they are entitled to everything. When Joe McKnight (current running back for USC, #4), picked USC over LSU, it was assumed that he was a traitor, he turned his back on Louisiana, and other ridiculous vitol. Heaven forbid he does what he wants to do both on and off the football field for the next 4 or 5 years. It was pretty funny and pitiful at the same time. McKnight went to a local NeW Orleans high school which is traditionally a power house in football. As for my school, I didn't like the atmosphere that much when I was there for the football games. I'm not one to yell at the top of my lungs or decorate myself with body paint, but half the students that were at the games were there just to socialize it seems, not watch the game. Maybe I'm not being fair since tailgating is a big part of collee football and I've never been a giant tailgating fan (though I have nothing against it obviously), but I want to watch the game. My school had a non-conference game at Army a few seasons ago, first time I ever went to New York city and state. The West Point Military Academy is absolutely gorgeous, but the Army Cadets can get pretty rowdy and obnoxious sometimes, both good and bad. I went to a game at BYU last year. Other than some of their student section acting goofy and loud which is to be expected obviously, that was one of the better game/fan experiences I had in recent memory. Welcoming fans and staff, open, classy, willing to talk to you regardless of if you are a fan of the opposite team, etc. Tulane fans locally can be pretty obnoxious sometimes. They usually aren't that good in football, but my school used to be in the same conference as them and I went "home" to see my school play Tulane in either 2000 and 2001 and one Tulane fan was just getting on my nerves. Tulane was doing good this game and beating my school pretty handily that the game was all but determined by the 2nd half. This guy though was just obnoxious and ranting on, and on, and on, and on, and on about how my school was a bunch of cheaters, the refs and the whole world were against Tulane, even when they were winning and won by about 25 points. This guy was just beyond obnoxious.

NHL Network: Top 10 Goalies of ALL TIME

Where would you rate him then? Is he even top-10 all time? It sounds like you have a disliking of the guy from this post. Please correct me if I am wrong though. Sure, he was on the Wings on the latter years of his career when he wasn't the Hasek of old (or young) during his Buffalo days, but he almost single-handedly kept Buffalo afloat many times during his lengthy career there. He has 6 Vezina trophies as a top goaltender in the league. 2 Cups, 1 where he played a major part in. 2 MVP awards if I'm not mistaken, which are all but impossible for goalies to win. It isn't that absurd to think he is the 2nd best goaltender of all time when you put his entire career in context outside of a Red Wings jersey. Like all lists, it is entirely subjective. More or less mimicing what haroldsnepts said, a list such as this one should show Hasek as a slam dunk to be in the top-10 at minimum, but you could get hundreds of different listings/opinions saying that any one of Hasek, Brodeur, Sawchuck, Roy, Dryden et al were the best or 3rd best or 5th best, etc. and all those listings/opinions would probably have some legitamacy to them.

I think you keep both of them if possible, then you create a hybrid out of the two, and name the hybrid either Franzsa or Hosszen. All right that wasn't really that funny.

Beavis and Butt-head were always motivated to score as well, but it never really worked out for them. I think we're talking about two different things here though.

Killing yourself would hurt a little bit. In other action today, I haven't watched any of this game, but BYU was just beating the snot out of UCLA apparently, up 42-0 at halftime. ECU is in trouble against local school down here, Tulane, down 24-21 with a litte bit left in the 4th qtr. My school TCU had a pretty impressive win against Stanford by 17 points to improve to 3-0 and flirt with making the top-25 if they win over the next week or two.

Bulgaria women's hockey team loses 82-0

It takes less than a second to score a goal. Point is regardless of the score if I'm on the team that is dominating, I'm not going to just stop playing the game just to be "nice" to the other team. There comes a point in games like these to pull your main stars away from a game like this and to just end the game as soon as possible, but that doesn't mean I'm putting my 3rd and 4th stringers out there to not pass/shoot or to not run my normal offense/defense. You still have to play. If the defense is just that terrible, I'm not just going to accidentally not score or purposefully fall down to not score a touchdown.

No, no, and no. I'm not going to get in the whole hockey doesn't belong in the south endless debate, but there are already plenty of professional leagues in Europe. Leave it that way.

Bulgaria women's hockey team loses 82-0

In terms of the "sportsmanship" or "running up the score" bit, it wouldn't be justifiable I think if the outcome is all but determined and you continually just play your 1st/2nd lines with scoring stars wanting to score more and more. But, if the other team is just flat out terrible, that isn't an excuse to work on your game and try to play any differently, whether you are on the 1st line or 4th line. Perfect example, different sport. The school I went to is pretty solid in football, perhaps a top-25 team if they only lose a game or two this year. They played a I-AA school last weekend that wasn't that good and demolished them 67-7. They still scored a good bit in the 2nd half when the game was all but over, but with 2nd and 3rd stringers barely passing the ball and trying to get gaudy statistics or whatever. They just kept running the ball and the other team couldn't stop them. Not fair? Perhaps not, but what are you gonna do, just not run your offense or try not to score?

    Question for everybody regarding Hossa

It could be just a 1 and done deal with the Wings and Hossa if the Wings happen to repeat. It's realistic to expect it as the Wings only signed him to a 1-year deal and it's been known that he might not be in the plans due to Salary Cap, wanting to sign Zetterberg and Franzen, etc. etc. I'd obviously love for Hossa to stay long-term, but I won't be too surprised if he doesn't, and probably not upset or bitter if he leaves after this season.

    10 pretty fun 08/09 questions...

I'm thinking in fast forward right now so some of these are just going to be pulled out of my rear so don't flame me too much, but here goes... 1. Iginla, Zetterberg if he stays healthy, Ovechkin, Malkin 2. Datsyuk or Zetterberg but not both, Crosby, Ovechkin 3. Don't know as I have no clue who rookies will be 4. Detroit vs. Pittsburgh again 5. Don't know 6. Chara or Pronger 7. Crosby by a slight margin 8. Datsyuk by a slight margin 9. Hossa by a slight margin 10. Anybody CAN make the playoffs, will they make the playoffs is what should be asked. I'm going to say yes on their first time this upcoming season.

Possible 3-1 SCF Game 6 win

Refereeing was bad I think all around, but non-Red Wing fans can easily just say that the Red Wings were whiners. Every NHL player, hell every professional athlete and their mother whines at some point in their careers so the whining thing doesn't really mean much. And again I'm not denying the bad officiating overall, but the Red Wings did get more PPs in the series if I'm not mistaken, so the referees certainly gave them "chances" as well. Every team gets good and crappy breaks from the officials throughout a playoff series, it doesn't just happen against whoever our favorite team is.
