Game 1 of the WCF vs. Dallas on NHL Network that started being replayed about 20 minutes ago if you want to tune in. I guess Detroit is back up again in the series of playoff games.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/stor...&id=3559861 Good column on how McCarty seems to be turning his life around and his storybook ending winning his 4th Cup.

:flush: Sorry, I couldn't resist there.

Because the Pee Wee team actually only played 1 period, less chances to dominate them!

Or, how about not bashing or ripping on somebody with no logic or reasoning whatsoever, in this case Hudler, when they stepped their play up when the games counted most, especially given limited playoff time. I'm probably going to regret asking this, but what is your deal not liking him anyway?

You can make a serious case that Giguere (pad jokes aside) single-handedly did this to the Wings in 2003, because the Ducks rarely could score worth a hoot that playoff season. They certainly didn't against the Red Wings in the 1st round. Kipprusoff the following playoff year to the Wings, although to a somewhat lesser degree that Giguere the year before. But when your goalie gets back-to-back shutouts to help your team clinch a playoff series, I'd say the goalie had a pretty big hand in helping them win. And to the least extent, Roloson in 2006. He ripped some saves out of his rear end, but for most of the series Edmonton as a team outworked the Wings even though they might have had less shots. And what I'm going to say here has absolutely nothing to do with "being in a Red Wings bubble" or being "Red Wing homers". I'm also of the mindset that 9 times out of 10 defense wins championships, in pretty much any sport. Hell, I can just site a single game in football already this season of the college I went to. They won their season opener 26-3, but none of their offensive scoring drives went no more than 35 yards. The defense gave them short fields just about the entire game and just pistol-whipped the other team almost every series. The offense could and probably should have had at least 40 points if they didn't shoot themselves in the foot a few times. Defense wins championships, but at the same time you can't win games if you don't score, so it never hurts to have a few offensive stars or playmakers. I'm not fully on board with GordieSid&Ted in his theories here, but he does have legit points.

Ouch. Just ouch is all I can say to a thorough butt-kicking like that. I'm not about quitting during a game, but after a while when you are getting dominating you eventually got to ask yourself how much more is it worth taking.

Well, it was clear as could be until it sunset later in the game, but the temperature was around 90 during kickoff. I'm ready for cooler weather down here. I like fall chilly weather where the high is usually no more than the low 70s, because that is probably the type of weather you have up there right now. Fall chilly weather is my favorite time of year as the weather usually behaves and my favorite two sports to watch, football and hockey, occur at the same time.

Lovely stuff there Booster and Kronner!

I haven't owned an EA Sports hockey game since the 2004 version I think (will buy the new one soon with a gift card ), but I think one of the versions I had was programmed to restrict numbers that were retired for a team or league-wide if you were trying to change jersey numbers or trade/sign players, etc. Doesn't really matter though, can easily just switch Stuart's number to 23 in the game.

No doubt about it. Even if you just played 5 regular season games or 1 playoff game, but still practiced with the team regularly and helped them bust their butts to be the best they could be during the games that counted, you are still a part of a Cup winning team, regardless if you have your name cemented on the Cup under the proper criteria or not.

In terms of the whole Fedorov and the grudge thing, no I don't hold any grudge over him leaving the Wings, I got over that a long, long time ago. Posters here have made their cases, and very good ones, for him being on one of the top two of these ficticious lines, given the criteria and that he played some big games roles in the playoffs. I'm not denying that. But, I understand the originial lines drawn out the way they were. Plenty of Red Wings have had colorful playoff careers, given partly of how the Wings have been in the league a long time. I understand putting Zetterberg ahead of Fedorov due to the Conn Smythe argument even though he hasn't played in as many playoffs as Fedorov. All are legit arguments.

If he wanted to change his name, that's his personal business and I have no means to butt into personal stuff like that. And I definitely like athletes with some flair or swagger, but guys like him or Terrell Owens who don't know when to stop being drama queens, that just rubs me the wrong way after a while.

My school won this weekend 67-7! I'm not kidding, we did win by 60 points, but it was a layup game against a I-AA team that went 0-11 last year. At least we put them out of their misery in the right way.

I went back to where I went to college this weekend to catch a football game yesterday evening. Shot of me in the stadium a little ways before kickoff. And a few other stadium shots asa well.

How so? He played some pretty important parts in helping the Wings win three Stanley Cups. If it is a joke because of line placement, I can maybe understand that, but Shanahan was with the Wings franchise for nearly a decade and played some pretty big roles in helping the Wings win 3 Cups as well, and he is placed on this ficticious 3rd line as well. Shanahan certainly had some playoff flame-outs, but Fedorov had some as well when the Wings were eliminated early.

Were guys like Fredrik Olausson and Dominik Hasek part of the Red Wings franchise in 2002 when they played pretty important parts in helping the Wings win a Stanley Cup despite playing just one season for the franchise (before Hasek came out of retirement of course)? Do you just don't like the idea of "rental" players?

Wings agree to 1-year deal with Chelios

What is your basis and rationale on Meech and Quincey not hacking it? Meech did pretty good filling in with all the injuries in February I think. Quincey had a respecable showing in the playoffs two years ago and didn't look lost out there by any stretch of the imagination. -
Apparently so does the guy in your last pic who is waving. Seriously, excellent adventure pics. Looks beautiful out there and being one who likes outdoor stuff, I'm a bit jealous.
