The Meters - Look Ka Py Py

This is just one idiot's opinion, and I can be a big one at times and might be talking out my rear end here, but for me my weight usually fluctuates around 3-5 pounds every from eating, physical activity or lack of it, or whatever else. At the end of the day though or start of the morning it usually works itself out though to where I am content with what I way or what my figure is. Usually a day or two of possibly doing something out of whack with your exercise or diet probably won't throw your weight out of whack, especially if you normally eat healthy to begin with etc. I wouldn't bank on eating fast food though to continuing losing weight.

Is Lidstrom one of the best overall players in the league? Yes. But like similar debates or sports listings or whatever else, it is entirely subjective. Another guy can make a case that some player is the best reasons because of reasons A, B, and C. Another could say Lidstrom is the best because of three other reasons completely different than A/B/C. And other person could make the same claim in a legit fashion for another player with entirely different reasons as well. It just depends what subjective mode of thinking you want to believe more. But all of the opinions probably aren't significantly better or worse than another if somebody can make a legitmate claim for the player.

Wings agree to 1-year deal with Chelios
SouthernWingsFan replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
While I am all for bringing Chelios back, can you explain why you think Lilja and Lebda just plain suck? Anybody can make a statement like that without backing it up with reasons. -
They are definitely in improvement mode, improved their roster in the offseason, and took the Wings to task more often than not last season, so it'd be pretty foolish for Wings fans to completely dismiss the Blackhawks from being a playoff contender. Will they be world beaters? That's probably a stretch, but it is not a stretch to think they'll make a serious push for the playoffs this upcoming season.

Howard will definitely have the chance to show he's NHL caliber, and I think it still will be with the Wings. And he definitely has plenty of years of hockey left in him assuming his play doesn't fall off the face of the earth and he stays healthy. Like a lot of other fringe 4th-liners on here that could be on the Wings, it is all about waivers. WAIVERS. Howard doesn't have the risk of being claimed by another team is he's on the Wings and gets sent back down to the minors for one more year. And with Conklin being signed to compete for the backup, it is probably better that Howard gets as much PT as possible in the minors, unless he just blows Conklin completely out of the water in competing for the #2 goalie position.

Wings agree to 1-year deal with Chelios
SouthernWingsFan replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
Good perspective Heaton. Immediately after the Wings won it was all but determined that Chelios was going to have a reduced role and not play every night any more. While everybody probably wants to play every night, that's just natural, there's never been any objection or grumbling by him that suggests he'd be unhappy with his role. He looks to be happy, the Red Wings are happy in keeping him around, the signing is for peanuts in terms of money, and the Wings were probably going to have to trade somebody anyway to get under the salary cap regardless of if Chelios signed or didn't sign. His salary probably never had a huge implication on the salary cap anyways, especially when it was understood that he was probably going to be back for a good while now. I'm indifferent on Chelios but if he's happy here and the Wings are happy with him, let's keep it going then. -
Not saying or implying that you are doing this because you certainly aren't, but it has certainly been moaned and whined about in here plenty before about the "respect" factor in regards to media or broadcasters or whatever. And it was tiring to read about it in here especially during the playoffs. Doesn't really matter what they think, they have no control over the product the Red Wings put out on the ice. The important thing is that the opponents probably definitely respect the Red Wings and that the Red Wings win more often than not with the personnel they role out on the ice, regardless of how high or low they are ranked by media outlets as individual players.

That's the important thing I think, at least it worked with me. I was never just so focused on becoming an exact weight number and if I was one or two pounds over it, I'd be crushed. Never really thought like that. When I lost a lot of pounds years ago, regardless of the amount, it was just that exact feeling you talked about - it felt good to lose a lot of weight and be healthier, regardless of the weight number. Just remember...beer and alcohol good...beer and alcohol VERY GOOD. As for me, I have barely been able to work out at all recently over the past 2 weeks due to the weather being nuts down here obviously lately. I'm just hoping by next week life will settle down where I'm from and I can get back into a normal routine. I haven't weighed myself on a scale but I probably haven't gained or lost much significantly because I haven't really eaten any big meals during the lack of exercise or fast food, and the stress of the weather down here has probably kept my weight at bay.

It may be hard for a team to REPEAT, but it is not hard for me to REPEAT that it is hard for a team to REPEAT, because usually now you don't see teams REPEATING as champions as much as teams were REPEATING as champions decades and decades ago, because it was also easier to REPEAT back then because there were fewer teams in any professional league. Now it is harder to REPEAT now because there is more teams in the league that put a bigger risk of not REPEATING as a champion of a league. Any questions? SouthernWingsFan's Repeat-O-Meter Count = 8

A lot of us have probably heard or read this more or less during the offseason but thought I'd post a formal/official confirmation that is in righting. Mods, merge with other threads if necessary. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...1128/sports0103 Don't shoot the messenger... The above quoted is something I would rather not see happen even though I don't mind seeing Chelios back in a limited role that's been defined and understood during the offseason, but it's not like the Wings aren't loaded on defense already, so if the above happens with one of those two guys, I'll live...

One of the best things about the 08-09 season...
SouthernWingsFan replied to thedisappearer's topic in General
I wouldn't tell Detroit (97-98), Pittsburgh (91-92), Edmonton (84-85, 87-88), New York Islander (80-83), or Montreal (76-79) members this. -

Repeating is hard in pretty much any sport and any level unless you just win all you games 100-0 in whatever sport it is. I won't be shocked if a repeat DOESN'T happen since it is so hard, but the Red Wings have certainly equipped themselves in terms of personnel to make a very legit run to possibly repeat, and I highly doubt the hunger factor will wear off that much since hopefully they'll stay motivated to win for Hossa per se.

For those who might be thinking Michigan's season is over after another season opening game loss (and I know I don't know the Michigan team that well and don't know the latest and greatest about the team b/c I don't live up north), this isn't a fluke-type loss like last year for the Wolverines where a I-A team should usually beat a I-AA team by at least 30 points. Utah is that good, and if it weren't for BYU being the favorite of the non-BCS conferece teams to break through, Utah would be picked to win the Mountain West Conference by most people with a pulse who are logical. As long as they don't lose games that they should win on paper, they are going to be a legit top-25 or borderline top-25 time. Michigan might be in "rebuilding" mode per se, but this opening game/loss shouldn't be the deciding factor for the rest of their season. Kudos to my school for putting on a dominating defensive effort to win 26-3 at New Mexico and giving the offense short fields most of the game, good to always start off conference play with a win.

All this talk about line combinations or getting all worked up that the Wings brass might not use the exact combos you want really doesn't matter. The line combos are going to change plenty during the season.

Because maybe professional sportswriters don't read your posts?

Good perspective. I'm less than thrilled of possibly trading Quincey or Meech as the original article suggested, but when you put it that way, along with the fact that the Wings are already stacked as it is on defense, it doesn't sound as bad. And remember February people? Depth on defense is never a bad thing.
-
Not really. They certainly didn't stink up the joint that much against the Red Wings last season.

Homerism abounds for fans of any team, even this one, so you'll see some bias there that Chicago is probably better than normal as well as doom-and-gloomer posts that they are terrible since those guys watch Blackhawk games more, but those two blurbs are a little over the top.

Good for him. If he has enough left physically to contribute in a positive fashion, I'd tell him to play for as long as he can.

Might want to settle down with the personal attacks there Sparky.
