Groovy, if I do go it will be on that weekend and it will be with wheels but I literally might just be there that Saturday and leaving early Sunday morning to save costs since I'm going there primarily to see a game and I know Dallas-Fort Worth like the back of my hand. Haven't decided if I'll take an extra day off of work beforehand or not. Will call if I have time.

When are you up in the Dallas area? I'm probably going up to the Metroplex the weekend following Labor Day Weekend, but it'll probably be more in the Fort Worth area.

Chelios's agent confirms that 'Chelly' will re-sign

NO WHINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
He is one of the better forwards in the game today. I think people's excitement towards acquiring such a player in the offseason, especially when it was going to be very hard to get such a guy in all likelihood, is more than justified and fair.

My cable went out for a while late last night and I wasn't able to stay awake but thankfully USA showed a replay of the US-Spain hoops game and I was able to watch most of it this morning. Wow. That was one of the most entertaining games of basketball that I have seen in a while. Bryant was nuts in the end, and Gasol and one of Spain's guards, Fernandez I think, was pretty clutch as well. Good to see the gold go back to :patriot:

Chelios's agent confirms that 'Chelly' will re-sign

Groovy cool. He knows what his role is going to be assuming he's back, he's not going to play night in and night out, and he seems to be content with that given the current roster and Chelios being in his last years. I'm all for brining him back in such a role. -
HE'S LAZY AND HE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! LAZY AND SUCKS I TELL YOU!!!!!!!!!!! *ends sarcastic overembelishment*

It's because he's got a fat rear end.

I watched most of the women's basketball gold medal match b/w U.S. ad Austrailia. Like the Aussie men, I was impressed with how scrappy and physical the Aussie women's team played and that they never quit, even though it was all but apparent the U.S. would win as long as they didn't self-destruct.

He must have been hanging out with Prince or Billy Idol the night before. -
Nice, very touching and inspiring.

This is just one idiot's opinion, and I am a pretty big idiot at times, but here goes... Yes. Last season answered this question and Osgood will have the majority of starts regardless of if Conklin or Howard is the backup, but Babcock and company are smart enough to not overwork him assuming his play isn't ridiculously in the s**ter for whatever reason. Unless I have been sniffing too much glue, Wings mgmt is deeming Howard the goalie of the future. I think he has one more year where he doesn't have to worry about clearing waivers/getting picked up by another team, so it might make more sense to give him one more year of as much playing time as possible in Grand Rapids. Conklin is an experienced backup more/less, he can probably handle coming in cold or with not as many starts over Howard perhaps, but again with this last sentence this is one idiot's opinion and I am a big idiot. If Osgood stays healthy, yes. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Minnesota. No real reason, just a wild guess (again, the idiot's opinion at work here). Injuries, plain and simple. I don't think this team will lack motivation even after winning a Cup already. Just stay healthy. Probably not, and I've already accepted this and it is slim/none that I plan to go to this. I honestly don't mind cold weather all that much even though I live in a warm climate more often than not, but anything below 20 degrees being outdoors for extended lengths of time and I usually become miserable, and it'll probably be that cold around Chicago that time of year.

You are making me feel very jealous and very lazy, even though I'll be working out 4-5 times this week. 4-5 days of exercise a week more often than not, my normal eating habits, but drinking a glass or bottle of alcohol nearly every day basically means that everything has no effect on my weight whatsoever and I never deviate 5+ pounds where I currently am at/where I want to be. Just remember folks, never overindulge like this.

It means exactly what it says. If I die sooner than later for whatever reasons, then I wouldn't be a Wings fan for a longer time period then. Whenever they start to struggle (and it will happen sometime, maybe not anytime soon, but sometime), hopefully I won't be a fickle fan and stop paying attention to them.

How so?

Interesting thread... First off, let's hope Carl Yastrzemski can make a good recovery. In terms of who/what drew me into hockey, I didn't watch it at first but started playing NHL 93 or 94 I think on Sega Genesis and I always picked good teams. I was usually either Montreal, Chicago, or Detroit. But I started watching it on TV a bit more than casual starting the 1995-96 season and the Red Wings eventually started to grow on me. Sergei Fedorov was a major factor, because in all the NHL games he was ridiculously fast and I could get at least 10 breakaways a game with him and he scored like 100+ goals a season. Nearly 15 years later I am still in die-hard Red Wings fan and will hope to continue to be so for a long time.
-
So will the Penguins next year in all likelihood. I highly doubt there will be much of a drop-off or letdown.

QFT. And as die-hard fans of a sports team we often fail to realize that either on the playing surface as an athlete or in the front office, this is a job/career to these people. Sometimes that means pursuing other opportunities elsewhere in a different city to better yourself personally/professionally/financially, just like you might have to do with any other job or profession. It can't always be all about the Red Wings 24-7-365 no matter how much we want it to be sometimes. If Yzerman wants to be a GM soon and it requires him going to a different city or sports franchise to do so, so be it. It would be what he wants to do. And that would not make him a traitor to the Red Wings franchise whatsoever, not even close.
-
I'm going to continue to emphasize, flip-flop the results and situations of the teams in this years SCF, and Red Wings fans here would be doing the exact same thing complaining about Hossa if he left the Red Wings, just like some Penguins fans are probably doing. Unless the forum rules here have changed, I think it is highly frowned upon here to smack talk on other sports forums or bait people. That could result in a perma banning here if I'm not mistaken.

What are you basing this on? If franchises from Winnipeg and Quebec City, two cities that definitely like hockey in general by default, if they moved to more southern locations, what does that tell you? It tells me that there was not enough corporate support and residential support in dollars. Sure the atmosphere up in Winnipeg probably likes hockey up there a lot more than in Phoenix. But Winnipeg isn't all that big of a city, and while it's warm and fuzzy to like hockey, not everybody can buy season tickets or even afford to go to 20 games a year. I highly doubt the NHL has much or anything to do with controlling this. That is totally about to the stations that broadcast these games. For me personally, these guys have no bearing whatsoever on my hockey watching, whether the are perceived as good or bad, overdramatic or knowledgable, whatever. I tune that stuff out more often than not. I just like to watch the games.

Robert Miles - Children http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZFrFqXqc4c I'm not one of those club-hopper types who likes trance or dance music where the DJ just basically messes with the song or the beat every 30 seconds, but I do like a fair amount of dance-type songs like this. New Orleans used to have a minor league hockey club in the East Coast Hockey League from the mid-late 90s when I was still in high school, and either the first or second year in existence when they made the playoffs, about 5:00 prior to faceoff the arena lights would go off, and there'd be a light show with this song being played to pump the crowd up. If this song doesn't get you going, I don't know what does.

I have no idea if China is consistently good in beach volleyball/volleyball or if they just had a great run in this year's olympic but last night beach volleyball's gold medal match b/w them and us was quite entertaining. And even though this isn't Olympics related, to my surprise men's soccer was on for 2010 World Cup qualifying was on and the U.S. got a big 1-0 win at Guatemala. A lot of the countries from Central America probably won't make the World Cup outside of Mexico, but to win on the road in those places for a team/country like the U.S. who isn't cream of the crop in soccer is a tough ordeal. Was the first time they won a World Cup qualifier in Guatemala actually, if the reports reported correctly. USA kicked butt yesterday! :patriot:

I only got to see the 1st half of the U.S.-Austrailia basketball game before I had to go to work and we eventually pulled away from them in the 2nd half, but I like how the Aussies play basketball, at least from the 2 games I watched them. Far from the most talented team but they are scrappy, they play physical, and they play without fear. My VCR will be pre-recorded for the U.S.-Argentina game that will be on around Friday morning our time. I really wish I could see the U.S.-Brazil women's soccer match tomorrow for the gold. Brazil is usually strong in women's soccer and the we have always been, and while I didn't see any of the last time when Brazil demolished us 4-0 whenever that was, I like payback/motivation games. I'll be setting my VCR for tomorrow morning as well. Syncronized Swimming - I'm not going to rip on the sport itself, I understand you got to work together with your partner to perfect your routines and things like that, and it takes practice and some good muscle strength I think to stretch your muscles underwater in certain ways to perform the proper routines and the like. But I watched it for a few minutes earlier tonight and the people performing were wearing make up and eyeliner and eye goup. Come on, you're going underwater for crying out loud, you don't need make up (I know I know, then what about some women's gymnastics events where they wear formal attire somewhat )! Nevertheless, even though I don't really care for the sport, I'm not going to rip on it or say it is fake or whatever since I have no clue how to properly perform the sport and the routines correctly to even be remotely decent at it.
