It seems like you are trying to ask for more. Were you saying these things during most of the Cup Finals when Samuelsson produced? Nobody is going to overhype Samuelsson and make him seem like the next coming of Luc Robitaille or *insert famous hall of fame player's name here*, but the bottom line is he made a significant impact in a positive way when it counted most with a fairly solid Finals series, given his roles/ice time/salary.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=245069&...os=secStory_nhl Neat little blurb, Yzerman more/less says if you are healthy enough and are unsure of hanging them up, play for as long as you can.

I personally like this one. Makes it looks like he's playing some mean air guitar.

Samuelsson and Lilja will always be the default whipping boys on here. Sad but true, and it's sad that there has to be any whipping boy at all.

Regardless of the when, all of you are still nuts.

Plenty of people in here will, so you'll have plenty of company for better or worse...

How do you know? The game hasn't even been played yet. Some of you Wolverine and Spartan fans have..... .....issues with each other.

(1) For reasons IceMunkee already stated. (2) Filppula never played with an enforcer on his line. (3) Have you looked at some of the ridiculous overpayments this off-season more than $3M a year? Jeff Finger? Brian Campbell? Christobal Huet?

No real harm in trying to re-sign Cheli, it is for pennies esentially and Chelios already knows the role he is going to be in not playing every night. He's not the Chelios of old (or young) but he is a freak of nature in terms of staying in shape and if anybody can still play with some productivity when he's 47, it is Chelios. This just solidifies depth on defense even more. I have no problems with this at all given the role Chelios will probably be in as a 7th or 8th defenseman.

In a much calmer way I agree with this. That's what makes this assult charge a bit baffling to me. Not so much that Roy "attacked" him obviously, but the other goalie from the video just didn't seem to do anything or care or prepare that Roy was coming in. Maybe he was confused, I don't know. While I'm not one in real life to condone throwing fists at people are starting s**t (please for the love of god let's not turn this into a fighting in hockey debate because I do like a good 1-on-1 hockey scrap like anybody else), if somebody is coming at you like that, you need to at least TRY to defend yourself. The other goalie looks like he didn't even make any attempt whatsoever.

Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks

I haven't eaten breakfast yet but you just made me lose my appetite. Thanks. -
I've got thoughts on this all over the place so I'll probably need some help with people more knowledgable than myself, and I've only seen a clip of this incident twice. More or less, Roy just goes to the other goalie and starts throwing fists at him and the other goalie does nothing, right? And didn't Patrick Roy tell him to fight the other goalie? I understand the assault charge going to Roy Jr., but if it can be found out that Patrick Roy pre-meditated, shouldn't a charge be realisitically put on him as well? Also, did the other goalie get severly hurt from this as a result? I'd be interested in knowing if the assault charges are legit to you based on this, or if that consideration is a moot point. Please keep in mind I'm no lawyer so a lot of what I said here might just be irrelevant. I think it is safe to say that fighting in hockey, even brawls that flounder somewhat out of control, are somewhat accepted in the game, but ONLY at the professional level. I rarely watch collegiate hockey and there is no junior hockey down in my neck of the woods obviously but fighting I would think is frowned upon on these levels.

Biggest Red Wings news of the offseason this far
SouthernWingsFan replied to P. Marlowe's topic in General
Hossa signing with the Wings. It's not even close. I don't think anybody expected it. Bowman going to the Blackhawks is a somewhat not-so-distant 2nd, but I understand the reasons for him being closer to his son and hope he does well in his new position. Flipper not necessarily re-signing, but signing for 5 years was a bit of a surprise, but a very pleasent surprise. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary for me I think. -
Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks

Meh, what can you do. For those who might be suggesting Bowman is a traitor or whatever else, this isn't a passion/loyalty to your team first for some of these guys. That's not good, that's not bad, it just is what it is. This is a job for these people, this is a career. Sometimes that requires re-locating to a different city to do what is best for yourself or your family. The Red Wings aren't always going to be the final spot for people to finish their careers and stay here for 15+ years. Being with the same organization for roughly 15 years like Bowman was at is a pretty long time, so Bowman was definitely loyal to the Red Wings and Detroit for a long, long time. I'm not familiar with his son/his situation or if he's been in Chicago for a long while or not. If he wants to be close to his son and help him deal with his cancer problem, how can you argue against it? I definitely would have loved to see Scotty Bowman stay within the Wings franchise but there is no good reason to be mad at him for leaving to Chicago given these circumstances. I hope he enjoys his new position in Chicago and I hope his son gets better. -

With the school I went to being in the same conference as both BYU and Utah… BYU's high ranking is definitely justified. I actually saw my school play at BYU last year, the Salt Lake City/Provo area in Utah is absolutely gorgeous. Anyways BYU's offense is just ridiculously loaded with a solid QB who doesn't run much but can throw all over the field, a big RB, and playmakers at both WR/TE. If things fall their way, they could make the BCS, they certainly have a favorable schedule hosting UCLA and playing at Washington out of the conference. Against most teams they could easily put up 30+ points a game. Michigan better take Utah very, very seriously in the opener. If things go their way Utah is a legit/borderline top-25 team. Their QB is ridiculously good as well, can run and pass. Utah's and BYU's QBs are the best in that conference, and the third best is not even close to those two. I'm surprised Rivals ranked my school, TCU, as high as they did in the mid-30s. I would've put my school in the mid-40s or close to 50. Defense should be fast/explosive like usual which is what TCU teams are usually known for, but there are questions on offense. Mainly running back health and consistent play of the QB/wide receivers. If the running backs on my school can stay healthy, they could produce in big chunks. We play at Oklahoma, and while I'm not expecting it to happen again, if we pull off a huge upset like we did against OU in 2005 to start the season, we'll be in the top-25, or very close to it. I just want us to somehow get past BYU and Utah first and foremost to have a realistic chance of winning our conference title. I'm also a big LSU fan being close to the Baton Rouge area. Michigan better not have given them the Appalachian St. jinx! LSU starts the season against them. They should be right around where they are at 10 due to uncertainties at QB with the supposed superstar starter getting dismissed from the team for being an idiot one too many times. While I look forward to watching LSU games, I do not look forward to dealing with a lot of LSU die hards, because a lot of them are nutjobs unfortuantely. I'm surprised Florida and Texas Tech aren't ranked higher. TT probably because they are "unproven" in terms of being a consistent top-25 resident, but the QB and one of their receivers are absolutely sick and under that offense more often than not, they will put up points. Plenty of them. Exactly one month away till I watch my school open up the season, on the channel that almost every LGWer loves to hate (while I predictably have no bias one way or the other towards), Versus!

6 pounds is good. I've actually been able to pull off double-duty workouts on somewhat of a consistent basis these past two weeks usually lifting weights early in the morning and doing cardio work/jogging late in the afternoons, but I'm going to start flip-flopping that around since it is pretty much in the peak hot period down here and the temperature won't really go down all that much until late September probably. I have really been focusing hard though on lifting weights on my upper body since I've pretty much always been a shrimp in life. Gotta impress the ladies (and some men I guess, assuming they prefer that route ). I typically do yard work once a week for a few hours that I consider that a workout in itself since it is usually so warm down here. All in all along with my normal eating habits I pretty much am maintaining my weight which is what I want to do. If there is something that I will always take pride in and hopefully never do at all in the near future while I'm still young, is not have fun or make it sound like a chore to maintain my health or weight bu taking any special supplements or pills or following formal/special diets with rules on what you can eat or not eat or weight building/control products. Just my own decisions what to eat or drink and exercising when I want and not taking anything that might do more harm than good. Thankfully it has done me good so far I think.

If you are a die hard fan of a team, whether it is the Red Wings or the Minneapolis Hawks pee wee hockey team from the Mighty Ducks movie, you are going to search deep in the cookie jar to find excuses on why announcers hate your team or are biased against your team/for another team. It doesn't matter who the annoucer is. This was taken to a pretty high level by a fair amount of people in here this playoff season. Personally, I don't put much stock into what annoucers say. Not because they are stupid, far from it. They are in the broadcast booth for a reason. I usually just tune annoucers out and just watch the game on TV and not really worry or lose sleep over what they say or if they show good/bad bias towards the Wings or my favorite teams, because they have no bearing on the games itself and how I watch games. Did Thorne and company show Avalanche bias? Perhaps and that can be debated until all the liquor in the universe is consumed, but it was justified as the Avalanche had solid teams when he broadcasted and like it or not, Forsberg was one of the best players in the world at the time. Did it bother me at all? Not really. I did like Thorne's passion when he broadcasted and exciting parts of the games took place. He usually wasn't overally emphatic, but in the moment of a big play you definitely saw his excitement level rise, which I liked.

If you are basing it solely on terms of hockey "popularity" like I am perceiving from your post, Montreal should also be considered then along with Toronto and Detroit. New York perhaps? Definitely Minneapolis/St. Paul (Minnesota). Detroit definitely as well. What else makes a "real" hockey town in your definition?

I understand where you are coming from, but this is a silly excuse. For the new observer who might not have a full understanding of what is going on in the game, the tail behind the puck would have greatly helped in aiding seeing where it was going. Other than using "tradition" as an excuse, I never really understood why so many people have beef with the glow/tail on the puck on TV. Didn't bother me whatsoever or affect my viewing of the sport, and I highly doubt anybody here gave up watching the game cause of "TV enhancements". And if somebody responds with, "well a football or soccer ball or tennis ball can travel at pretty fast distances when passed or kicked..." Both those balls are larger than a puck, and a tennis ball is yellowish/neon which is easy to spot, plus there is only two or four people on a tennis court playing at the same time. There is usually so much going on at a hockey game that the glow/tail was pretty useful. I know I know, football is a chaotic game with plenty going on, but the average Joe casual sports viewer in this country will know a helluva lot more about football over hockey.
