Another funny cartoon.

Your part in the first blurb is nice in theory, but places like Winnipeg have plenty of people who like hockey and that's just it. Quebec City probably had/has plenty of people who love hockey. The same as Hartford. It can't just be that alone. You need a population base, you need corporate support from businesses with dollars. Plenty of people like hockey. However a lot of these people are probably just the average Joe like you and me not getting rich off our rears. They can't afford season tickets, or much less consistently going to 20 games with $70 tickets a piece, spending $10 on parking, $20 on food/drinks, and so forth. I'm not all that familiar with Saskatchewan and Saskatoon in terms of how densely populated it is or if it is realistic to get to etc., but if Winnipeg where people love hockey moved to Phoenix, Quebec Nordiques move to Denver, Hartford moves its franchise to Raleigh, what does that tell you? Not all places that "love" hockey have the dollars to support an NHL franchise.

Just because the beloved city of Detroit where our beloved Red Wings play isn't included, doesn't mean the list is automatically null and void. The guy just approached it from a different viewpoint, and I understand where he is coming from. He could have included much more out of Detroit. He didn't include decent sporting cities such as perhaps Chicago, or San Diego, or San Francisco, but nobody is complaining about that. It doesn't always have to be all about Detroit or Michigan.

Solid overall perspective on the situations there and with everybody involved...Moore, Bertuzzi, Lemieux, McCarty, all of them. I don't really remember the whole drama the Vancover-Colorado game before the Bertuzzi-Moore incident. If what you described was true, yes Moore deserved some retribution. But, as we all know, the next game between the two teams it totally went overboard and Bertuzzi went too far. Is he truly sorry for what he did and is just trying to move on as best he can? I think so, but consider that (1) I'm not a big fan one way or the other of either the Canucks or Avalanche and (2) overall I'm usually a pretty low-key/mum kinda person where I don't really show much emotions or one way or the other, so I have never really held any outrage or hatred towards Bertuzzi or Moore past/present and probably future. I'm not trying to stick up for Bertuzzi and/or Moore, just somehow want both parties to be able to be at peace with all of this whenever they can and move on from it (while not forgetting obviously). What Lemieux did to Draper back in 1996 was definitely wrong as well. And Lemieux did deserve retribution to some degree as well and eventually got it. Did McCarty's emotions get the best of him though while Lemieux was turtling and could he have severely broke his neck or something just as bad? I think you could easily make a case for it that and I never really thought of it that way until now. Although consider that I disliked the Avs a bit more during the rivalry years, was less mature as a teen obviously, and Lemieux just rubs me the wrong way, and not just because of the Draper incident or that ZOMG I'M A BIG WINGS FAN. I respect that he was a helluva playoff performer, an intense and hard hitter, but something tells me that he'd pull the same type of stunt in a heartbeat, regardless of player or team. I'd love to be wrong about that though.

It is still recognized as a professional sport, that is why I included it in my initial stuff. That is why I also included Major League Soccer Franchises in it as well, even though it might not be as "popular". I didn't even think of WNBA teams at the time, and while those may not be popular to the average Joe, it is still a professional sport. Detroit did have an arena football franchise at one time. I like it some. I wasn't defending or pointing it out so much for having a certain liking/openness to it, but to show you that you were being hypocritical.
-
Again, I wasn't comparing the two. You ripped on Arena Football in smart-allec manner saying it was just a joke and nothing more. Then you said it is a league of CFL washups, which is incorrect, since people from other colleges and leagues play in the Arena Football League. Where did the comparison to the Austrailian Football League come into play here. You missed the point where you probably wouldn't like it if people ripped on your home continent sport of football in a false or jackass manner, but it is all right for you to rip on another sport in a similar degree? That's hypocrisy.
-
I never once said I was a know it all about Austrailian Football. I know very little about the sport. Show me where I made negative remarks and/or discussed the sport in an uneducated manner.
-
I wasn't trying to compare the two. The way you slammed it though, you'd probably think twice when people who are uneducated about Austrailian Football slam the sport, and you'd tell them about the good things about the sport. And Arena Football has players from Division I-A colleges as well, not just Canadian Football players like you are falsely assuming.
-
Wow............
-
And "Get Ready For This" from 2 Unlimited back in the mid-90s that is still played when Detroit scores a fair amount of its goals is considered in-style?
-
-
Also, people in here could easily just as say that Austrailian football is a 'joke' since many are probably not all that familiar with its rules, intensity, and so forth. I'd fully expect you then to tell us then what makes that game as good as it is, and also tell us that such cities perhaps like Melbourne or Syndney in Austraila where you are from are good sports towns because they probably have good professional Austrailian football teams or other professional sports of Aussie origin or origins of other countries. EDIT: Other cities not included on the Yahoo blurb that I'd consider as solid sports meccas, keeping amount of sports franchises/consistently performing college teams in the area in mind, and/or overall population (in no particular order, preference, rhyme/reason)... Detroit Dallas Houston Denver San Jose San Diego Salt Lake City Miami Tampa Bay Philadelphia, as much as I hate Philly fans generally speaking St. Louis Minneapolis Pittsburgh Cleveland Buffalo

Which one is worse?
-
Cause it is a professional sport. You could just as easily say Major League Soccer is a "joke" probably due to its popularity among people in here, but it is still a professional sport as well, and people outside of here probably like those two sports, and I'm trying to give an overall perspective listing as many professional/major collegiate franchises as possible that I can think of.

Anybody who consistently uses their mask off a Looney Toons character, very cool in my book.

Atlanta Braves, which has been one of the better/more consistent teams in MLB for over a decade. Atlanta Falcons, which will always have plenty of recent attention for better or worse with the whole Michael Vick drama Atlanta Hawks Atlanta Thrashers Georgia Force (Arena Football) Georgia Tech Yellowjackets, usually a solid representative in the Atlantic Coast Conference in sports located in Atlanta And nearby Gerogia Bulldogs, a solid SEC representative in sports, and will contend for a National Championship in football this year if things go their way. Could definitely be a sportstown.
-
They have two NBA franchises, one that just went to the Finals and that is probably the first team identified when you think of the NBA. They have two MLB franchises even though one is technically located in Anaheim. The other one, the Dodgers, is one of the more popular ones in MLB. They have the LA Galaxy, which includes David Beckham, one of the most first identified athletes in the world, even though I know soccer isn't the most popular sport here. LA Kings LA Avengers (Arena Football) And USC and UCLA is there, where the two are huge sports rivals in pretty much anything and everything and USC has been a college football powerhouse for many recent years. They should probably be in the running.
-
New England Patriots Boston Celtics Boston Red Sox Boston Bruins New England Revolution (Major League Soccer) Boston College Eagles Boston University who is usually respectable in college basketball Not sure if they have an arena football team or not. The Patriots have been a football dynasty lately, the Celtics just won an NBA championship, the Red Sox are one of the most first identified teams in Major League baseball. I understand your hometown/area not making the list but that should not mean NOT putting Boston in such a listing. They are one of the best sports cities in the country whether we like it or not.

Wings who've won all 4 Cups(97, 98, 02, 08)

The Red Wings organization didn't have to give him a chance to return, but they felt like he could make a significant contribution to help the team. And I think the coaching staff and management thought about it much more than to be just a "PR opportunity". I highly doubt the coaching staff and management of the Red Wings acts just on PR opportunities. And if the coaching staff, given the Red Wings roster at the time and taking injuries into account, thought that guys like Hartigan or Downey would have made more of a positive significant contribution over McCarty to justify playing time in the playoffs, Hartigan or Downey would have played consistently over McCarty in the playoffs. You have to play at least one SCF game to have your name on the Stanley Cup. McCarty did. He also played close to 20 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hartigan played 4, Downey 0. Again, if coaches thought the last two would have made more of a positive impact over McCarty, they would've played him. What do you expect McCarty to do when learning that he would play in the playoffs more often than not, and given a fair opportunity to try to resume his career and get his life somewhat in order? Nah, I don't want to play in the playoffs and have the chance to win another Stanley Cup? I just want to remain bankrupt and an alcoholic, because that just doesn't sound quite as silly as winning a 4th Stanley Cup! He more than earned his spot to just play garbage 4th line minutes and get a 4th Stanley Cup by playing in enough SCF games as well as plenty of games in the playoffs with garbage 4th line minutes, which is pretty much what could only be realistically be expected of him since he wasn't the McCarty of old, or young. Did McCarty take your lunch money when you all were younger or something? Give you a wedgie? What do you have against the guy? -

I'm all for having an enforcer type player, but I'm not going to daydream about my options. I'll be very content if the Wings re-sign one or both of McCarty or Downey. If not them, then look for another similar-type player. But with enforcers not playing a huge role in the playoffs in all likelihood, again I'm not going to lose much sleep if ZOMG THE WINGS HAVE NO ENFORCER TO ANSWER CHEAPSHOTS IN THE REGULAR SEASON ZOMG! Unless 20+ injuries happens to the Wings (no an enforcer can't prevent all injuries ) or hell freezes over, the Wings will make the playoffs next season, with the significant contributions of an enforcer from the regular season or not.

Or maybe he thought he knew all the guys on there, but mistakenly left one out. It happens. Again, he's doing nothing close to personally attacking anyone or acting like a jackass or troll towards anyone in here, he's following the forum rules. Do some of you want to give him forum topic creation lessons? Let's make the guy feel a little more welcome and act respectful towards him when he's playing by the rules why don't we. -

See above. People aren't always going to be "Mr. Perfect" and will forget things sometimes. That's life. The original poster isn't doing anything close to breaking the forum rules or personally attacking anybody. He accidentally flooped up. Lighten up. -

I don't think that's the case harold. It's because it is an answer that probably isn't all that hard to figure out, but I can understand not be able to name everybody out loud or type everybody's name in a matter of 3 seconds. Takes time to figure out stuff sometimes. But unfortuantely to some people probably, if you don't know everything their is to know about the Red Wings in their history, you probably aren't a true Red Wings fan. -
I highly doubt all Nashville fans and people from there are rednecks. Every team regardless of location will have their share of idiot obnoxious fans. I wouldn't generalize like that.
