Lilja re-signs w/2-year, est. $2.4M deal
SouthernWingsFan replied to pinkprincess027's topic in General
Good re-signing. For everyobdy who rags on Lilja, I'll get it out of the way... We know he makes brainfarts every now and then. We know he makes brainfarts of the eye-popping variety every now and then. Is he my favorite? Far from it. He is still an effective PKer and a shot-blocker, and that is coming straight from the coaching staff and players, not just Couch Potato Armchair Analyzer SouthernWingsFan. So I think the words of coaching staff and players are much more credible than mine. It is a relatively inexpensive signing, the Wings still have plenty of cap-room left, and hopefully Lilja will remain just a 5th or 6th defenseman. I won't get too up in arms though if he's upgraded to a 4th defenseman. I'd love to see Meech and Quincey et al play more but we all know the Wings usually try to ease young guys in. You can never have enough depth on defense. -
He is quite the cute toddler indeed. Here's me with my 1st nephew over the weekend at his birthday party, he's now 5 years old. And apparently his friends thought I was a tackling dummy as all the kids decided to just jump and antagonise me for most of the day.

Since Jesus and his spirit is everywhere, he could just possess the souls of opposing players and knock them unconscious as the 4th line energy guy, since he was able to perform miracles. Only problem is that damn thing called free will where everybody chooses their own life so Jesus unfortunately doesn't interfere. Damn gum it.

Is there anything in the rulebook against having two Samuelsson's on the roster? And what if these two guys play entirely different games? I highly doubt the efforts of one player are going to force just one other player to leave. And what are you basing it on with the second Samuelsson being better? I think there has to be a little bit more than, "HE WAS DRAFTED IN THE 7TH ROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" -
Who the heck knows, you could guess probably about 200 different things that were said from only seeing a handshake and murmurs from a camera without a microphone. When have we have really understood what people were telling each other during handshakes after a series conclusion. Esepcially in this instance when Belfour still had his mask on. Not worth really trying to figure it out as it could have probably been a multitude of different things he said, and it is not worth getting overblown like people did in here with the Osgood/Turco handshake. It's a handshake, nothing more or less. A lava lamp or watching lasagna cook in a microwave is just as exciting than a handshake. Meaning that all three are pretty non-chalant or dull.

I've done my penance today in terms of the fit idea. Below is a map of a biking/jogging path in the parish (county) I live in. It may not look like a whole lot in terms of distance, but it is, even with the small portion of it that is under construction and not rideable. This morning I had to bike to get to the path from where I live which takes about 6-7 miles, I rode the entire thing which required riding parts of it twice due to the route I take to get the path safelyy, then riding my bike to get back home. When it was all done, I was absolutely drained when I got home early this afternoon and my odometer on my bike read 55.11 miles rode. EDIT: Actually where I was talking about the path not being ridable was the Lacombe trailhead due to a damaged bridge. So, assuming everything was fixed, it'd probably add a good 12-14 miles on my route if I had to guess, which goes to show that the path is pretty long, a little over 30 miles if you do it one way from the very beginning of one of the start points.

No lie. It is easy to say well after the season happened that a few deals this past season with Burke turned out to be garberfunkle, whatever garberfunkle is. Much like when the Wings traded for Bertuzzi at the time, I'd say it was similar to a 50/50 deal to where you don't know how Bertuzzi would perform and the like. At the time it certainly seemed like the Wings didn't have to give up all that much, and we certainly don't know how Matthias will play 5 years from now/how the draft pick will ultimately turn out, and so forth. I think it was the same thing in a way with Burke signing Bertuzzi. Didn't really perform all that great in the postseason for the Wings but I personally thought/still thinks he has some game left to play. Now at $4M like Burke was offering? No, but I can understand Burke wanting to get him back because of how much of a force he was during most of his Vancover career. I'll never understand much of putting Bryzgalov on waivers without trying to get him for something though. With that being said, yes he didn't build a Cup winning team two years ago by mistake as you quoted. Is he overrated? Perhaps. Did the SI.com writer give him too much credit this season? Yes. Overall though through past seasons, is he one of the better GMs? Probably so.

If... Wings management ultimately decides that Howard isn't ready for NHL duty on a regular basis (as the #2 guy of course) or wants him to play beaucoup in Grand Rapids one last season... AND if... Emery realizes that he is not going to be starting goaltender anytime soon and can live with that and not be a basketcase causing distractions, I'd be open to his services, but very cautious and wary due to his emotional baggage. Honestly I just want to go with Osgood and Howard and not have anymore goalie merry-go-round drama. Can Howard still play in Grand Rapids/get called up and the like without having to clear waivers one more season?

Yep. And while it is easy to say it was a bad trade now when we are well into playing Monday Morning Quarterback AFTER the trade happened, I bet that there were plenty of people that were very excited that this trade happened when it did around the end of the deadline two seasons ago and thinking that we didn't give up much to get Todd Bertuzzi. If you could have predicted the future on this one and predicted that it would have, at least been bad for the Wings in terms of just having a "rental" player underperform and everything else, I'd like you to predict my future by telling me I will marry Jessica Biel or Anne Hathaway, as well as predict I win $5 million in the state lottery.

I think he should just think out of the box and wear a jersey number in the 100s. Better yet, a Greek symbol used to solve math equations, like Theta, or PI*r squared.

Well I guess all these times that I have been reading the NHL section on ESPN.com it has just been one big mirage. I guess seeing Don Cherry during the Eastern Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals on ESPN broadcasts this season was actually his evil twin. -
Tasted two new beers this evening. Abita Turbodog - Didn't taste all that strong in the sense that it would get you drunk quickly. Honestly it didn't taste all too different then your regular run of the mill Coors Light or Bud Light, just with a slightly stronger kick and a slightly sweeter taste. http://www.abita.com/brew/turbodog.html Abita Andygator - No real sweetness to this one, just a bit stronger in content/alcohol than a Bud Light or Budweiser. http://www.abita.com/brew/andygator.html Still, nothing so far is coming close to my preference for Abita Amber. Will try a few more tastes out during the next go-round hopefully in a few weekends.

And to follow up on that, they then signed the town's grocery store clerk to play for one of their minor league teams! You think they're desperate or what?!

Currently I have... Gray Stanley Cup shirt that the players all immediately got after game 6. Red Stanley Cup roster shirt. I'm really surprised how much I like this shirt since I don't really like to wear clothes with giant logos or labels on them, I usually just wear solid/one colors and simple stuff, but I really like how the roster and design was laid out on the back of the shirt. Got both the Stanley Cup book off of the Red Wings home site as well as the Stanley Cup series matchup book. Bought a Stanley Cup champs car window decal. Am going to patiently wait for the DVD for my birthday in about two months in all likelihood, and if a picture frame comes out similar to the one below of the Cup win in 2002 that I have, I might pamper to get it for Christmas or something since my house contains a lack of artwork. I'm too cheap to buy this stuff for myself. Only thing else I really need to get is the DVD, anything else is extra.
