Chelios to Re-Sign for 08/09 Season

We all know it's going to probably be for a minimal amount. And even though Chelios is "old", he still works out like a freak of nature so I wouldn't be surprised if he still has some gas left in the tank. I highly doubt he'll get more than 3rd line minutes or he might just even be a 7th/8th d-man while trying to get one of either Meech, Quincey, Ericcson, or Kindl more time. As much as I want to see all 4 younger guys play, you cannot get this wish immediately and you cannot keep all of your prospects, regardless of the Chelios re-signing, and regardless of the signing as well assume that all 4 guys will all probably be competing for the #6 d-man spot, that means three still are either healthy scratches. Unless there is a big clusterf**k of injuries like there was in January or February to many of the defensemen, not a lot of them are going to get playing time still I think. Nothing wrong with this all but official re-signing.

    Curtis Joseph

Exaggerate a bit? I'd rather see Howard get some P.T. with the Wings next season in about 30 games in the regular season, but if they want to keep him in the minors for one more year, Joseph would be a good insurance policy. His best days are behind him but he's a veteran and knows how to play in the league. If Howard remains in the minors, signing a guy like Joseph for minimal cash in a backup role isn't too unrealistic of an option I think.

    Surprised.

He raised two fingers to probably signify that he won 2 Cups. Nothing more or less, and nothing worth trying to read into or start a controversy over.

    beers!

Ah. It's pretty limited hours unfortuntely, just in afternoons. I've actually never had a Turbodog. Next time I go back to the pub and restaurant I'll sample that one. Purple Haze is just too sweet for me unfortunately. I'm all about simplicity for the most part even though I like to try different stuff at once, which is why I'm usually pretty happy to just drink a Coors or Bud Light. http://www.abita.com/visit/brewery_home.html http://www.abita.com/visit/tours.html

    beers!

The brewery itself and the pub/restaurant are probably no more than a mile away from each other. The brewery has extremely limited touring hours though just during afternoons. The pub/restaurant isn't anything too much out of the ordinary of a restaurant, but it's still a solid place to hang out at and the like, plus some of the brew machines there are cool to stare at. Honestly you could just get Abita beer at pretty much any bar in New Orleans obviously but if you want to make the trek, Abita Springs is probably about a 45-mile drive north of the New Orleans area. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Abita+Springs+LA/

Your one day with the cup

Meh, I'll just go with the default answer. I'd probably just take it to a favorite hangout spot or two to show off, pour some wine or champagne in it and drink away. And I'd hopefully not "drop" it like Lebda apparently did. What can I say, I'm a boring/un-original person... *shrugs*

    LINDSTROM?!?!?

And it will probably be soon forgotten in a matter of days by the majority of people since many people have the attention span of a cricket. Very few people outside of hardcore Red Wings fans are going to remember or make a huge fuss about this once next week rolls around. Very few people will care that much, and the league will go on like normal in spite of this and this mishap will not put a further dent on the league like people here are fearing.

    beers!

I went to the home of Abita beer for a while earlier this evening in the small town of Abita Springs, LA. They have a brewery itself which has very limted hours unfortuantely near the Abita Brew Pub and Restaurant. I tried some new local flavors. http://www.abita.com/ Abita Golden - http://www.abita.com/brew/golden.html Nothing too out of the ordinary with this one I think. It's a lot like your ordinary Bud Light or Coors Light, just with a little stronger kick I think. Doesn't bother me though as I like drinking Coors Light. Now for the interesting one... Abita Jockamo IPA - http://www.abita.com/brew/jockamo.html Probably wasn't too wise to choose this beer while I ate dinner. It had a very sweet, citrus-like after taste. Wasn't all that strong with alcohol content per se, but the sweetness of it made it take a while to drink. Eating a 10-ounce hamburger while I was consuming it slowed down the pace as well. Unfortuantely eating an entire 10-oz burger made me run out of gas or I would've tried one more flavor, but next time. I'm going to go back there over one of the next weekends soon to try a few different beers out. Abita Amber still rules all though.

    Pavel Datsyuk for the Selke

I don't think I've spewed much in the way of "ego" here, I'm happy to see Datsyuk win it and glad to say my guess was incorrect for Datsyuk's favor. It is a bit ironic though that a "defensive" award winner was won by somebody who was around the league leaders in offensive production. In this instance though, I think the offensive/defenseive comparison doesn't hold much water here with him having so many takeaways, but remember when Draper won it he had the 20+ goal season, the most in his career. I don't think I ever once said it is 100% impossible for Datsyuk not to win the award, I just thought he had a few things not going in his favor to not win the award (not the primary PKer on your team, etc.). Whether you think they were legit/accurate reasons or not, that's up to you to decide. I just don't like either extreme of thought, (1) people thinking that he could not win it at all and (2) the hardcore fans who get all up in arms about even just minute criticism of Datsyuk or their favorite player and twisting around the thoughts of the middle-of-the-road people such as myself to where it sounded like we thought there was not a snowball's chance in hell of him winning either. Also there is a thing (not you specifically doing this) about celebrating graciously. Snicker, be proud or happy that you might have thought he would win it all the way or sticking by him winning the award. No need to rub people's faces in dirt though acting all high and mighty saying you were right. Don't be a sore loser, but don't be a sore winner as well.

    LINDSTROM?!?!?

I'm just looking for people to approach this with a sense of humor and quit worrying about Armageddon starting for a jersey error. Armageddon isn't going to happen, nothing is going to happen with the NHL because of this, life inside and outside the NHL will go on like normal regardless of if the jersey was mispelled or the jersey was correct. Training camps will soon start, preseason will be played, the regular season will go on, hardcore fans will still tune in, and outsiders will still feel compelled to slam the sport REGARDELSS of a jersey mishap. A jersey mishap (unless we are talking about Janet Jackson here ) isn't going to change anything in a positive or negative fashion. My last name gets butchered all the time by telemarketers. One poster said they spelled her name wrong on a diploma and she didn't get upset. And I can bet a diploma is more important than an NHL jersey/award. And I can bet you that a few people have probably already seen her name to try to get it spelled on the diploma correctly the 1st time, but it didn't happen. She was able to laugh it off without a problem. Incompetence for those errors? Perhaps. Are the errors funny? Yes. Are the errors worth getting this mad at? No.

    LINDSTROM?!?!?

Once again, blame the jersey maker for messing up on the name. And the NHL is not a joke because of a misspelled jersey. The only people who are crying over spilled milk about this are hardcore fans in all likelihood. I highly doubt very few people outside the NHL who might want to become fans are going to say, "By golly George, did you see that? They mispelled his jersey name! By humbug, I am striking from ever watching hockey ever again!" Do you know how silly that sounds? You are right though, it is a joke in a way. It is a funny joke that should be laughed at and nothing more.

    LINDSTROM?!?!?

People might notice, but I highly doubt very few people are going to care that badly to get all up in arms about it. If it were me, I'd be having a sense of humor about it and chuckling a bit. There are bigger things to worry about than a mispelled jersey name and this will have absolutely no accurate bearing on what fans are going to be fretting about...outsiders making fun of the sport b/c of this or the NHL going down the tubes b/c of this. The NHL is not going down the tubes because of this, if outsiders make fun of the sport...who cares, it's not going away. It's a harmless accident. Laugh about it and move on.

    LINDSTROM?!?!?

Again, blame the people who made the jersey, not the NHL. A disgrace because of a jersey name misspell? I highly doubt people were throwing stuff at the kid and yelling at him that he was retarded for wearing a jersey with an extra letter. In 3 days, nobody is going to even remember it happened. There are worse tragedies in life.

    Darcy Tucker

I'm having terrible flashbacks now of seeing the stupid "Trade Draper for Tucker" threads that popped up here once every so often in not-so-distant times here when Draper had a NO TRADE CLAUSE in his contract and didn't give any indications that he would waive his NO TRADE CLAUSE.

    LINDSTROM?!?!?

Meh, not the first time such a thing has happened, and it won't be the last. Typos happen, nothing we can do about it and nothing to get all upset over. And the NHL has no control over the company that makes hockey jerseys for a kid. Blame the jersey maker for this boo-boo, not the NHL.

    Kopecky

Kopecky isn't even half the "diver" that people on here moan and whine that Foresberg is. Injury-wise, only time will tell as he's still in his mid-20s and has a few more years until we can make a fair comparison regarding that.

Red Wings Cup Champs Book and Medallions

I called a rep this afternoon from the phone number on the Red Wings Web site to see what the latest was regarding this. She said the books were still in production, hence nothing really happening yet one way or the other from filling the order form out online. Once the books get completed then they will be shipped and anybody who filled out the form will then be charged like normal, according to her. When they will get shipped though, I couldn't get an answer from her. She said all should be normal though with people who filled out forms and haven't heard anything yet, so take my phone call/conversation for what it is forth. I'm pretty patient for the most part so I don't mind waiting.

    LGW Fit Club

I'm about 5'7" and my weight has pretty much ranged forever, and now, anywhere from 145 - 150. If I haven't been a male for my whole life, somebody up above has been doing a helluva job playing a prank on me. I never considered metabolism at all. I didn't take into effect that I usually drink a few cups of coffee most days, so that actually brings the calorie count up a few notches, about 125 calories for 1 cup if I had to guess. So, with that in mind I might take in anywhere from 1200 - 1400 calories a day most days, rough estimation. So I could still take in more calories. Even with the coffee I drink, I'd still probably end up well below "maintaining" my weight in terms of the target calroie goal for my figure. I usually eat bigger meals during the weekend though so in the grand scheme of things, some of the stuff probably balances out more or less. I'm not all too worried about gaining muscle that much. I'm well within a healthy weight range for my height and I've never been a big guy, just overweight for the longest time which I curbed a few years ago. I just work muscles out and lift weights more to have somewhat of a balanced workout. Pretty interesting stuff from this link. http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

    Kopecky

I certainly enjoyed Drake and Downey's prescence, but saying the Detroit was the softest team in the league is melodramatic, especially since Babcock made this team have a tough-as-nails philosophy before Downey and Drake even came here. Soft doesn't necessarily mean "not retaliating" after a dead whistle or giving people a whole bunch of pushes and shoves and the like. The Red Wings just do not retaliate all that much to where they will constantly be putting themselves in the box? Does that make the team soft? I don't think so. They do however, bust their butts with hard skating and fighting for pucks in the corner and going to the front of the net. We started to see that in the 2006-07 playoff season. That certainly isn't soft to me. Did guys like Downey and Drake help this year? Without question. The Wings weren't a soft team before their arrival though. As for Kopecky, time will only tell. I thought he was playing his best hockey of the season prior to injury. Torn ACLs are a tough deal though, I can personally attest to having reconstructive surgery years and years ago and my knee still isn't the same (although it is obviously better than if I would have used it with a torn ACL). We saw Derian Hatcher struggle after a torn ACL in his brief time with the Red Wings, same with Fischer I think in that same season in 2004. If he can rediscover that game where he started to use his body more on people, I think Kopecky can at least be a solid 3rd liner and potentially develop into somewhat of a 2nd line role down the road if he gets some scoring touch. Whether he will develop into more of a scoring role with Detroit or another team, who knows as he still has plenty of years left in this league if he can get healthy on a consistent basis.

What if the 4th line also had some scoring like it look like Detroit's 4th line might have, along with those other things? Would having a line of scoring, and energy/crashing/banging work out then?

ESPN takes shots at Detroit sports teams

Plenty of cities in the United States have basketball teams as well as hockey teams, does that make them flops as well? How does having basketball make a city a flop?
