I'm never one that will sound overconfident or cocky when having such a large lead, didn't do it last series against Colorado and the same this series at 3-0 b/c a best-of-7 series isn't decided until somebody wins 4 games. We've seen the Wings win 3 in a row in playoff series a bunch lately (Colorado, Dallas, and San Jose last year). They've certainly been capable of doing this. We've also seem them lose 2 in a row in a playoff series recently (Vancouver 2002, Edmonton 2006, Anaheim last year). They've certainly been capable of accomplishing this unfortunately as well. Hell we've seen them lose 4 in a row before in 2001 LA and 1999 COL. Nobody should be all that shocked that this has happened. Dallas just wasn't going to blow snot rockets in game 4 and game 5 giving the series to the Wings, and every team in the playoffs is capable of putting a winning streak together. That being said, there should be concern obviously but no need for ultra-panic I think until IF (not when, IF) the Wings are trailing in game 7. While I don't think much of home ice advantage in the grand scheme of things, in an elimination game 7, YOU WANT TO BE HOME IN FRONT OF YOUR FANS and with the last line change, etc. No need to feel content or overconfident, and no need to panic either.

No! Damn it I have the chance to fully panic, AND I'M GOING TO PANIC!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH! And I'm finished with my extreme sarcasm there.

ESPN's Mike Greenberg predicts a comeback
SouthernWingsFan replied to timothy1997's topic in General
Still definitely the chance though to make plenty of people in here look pretty foolish. And wanting ESPN to burn in hell is going a bit off the deep end I think. -

Well, the guy's still in the clear...still no 4 games won by anybody. I think people are feeling a little uneasy about calling this guy a nimrod regarding this now... -
Dallas Columnist: Turco Better than Osgood
SouthernWingsFan replied to dr_lobster's topic in General
Incorrect. You took the article of a journalist that probably wasn't a good one, and lumped a million people plus out of one large metro area as not knowing anything about the sport either. If nobody knew anything about the sport there, there wouldn't be a Stars franchise with coaches and players. I guess the minor league team in the Fort Worth area doesn't know anything about hockey either. The ice hockey rink I've been to a few times in Fort Worth with leagues, etc. Nah, they don't know anything either I guess. You were generalizing. -

I went to college in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, does that mean I don't know anything about hockey? Watch the generalizations. -
Yep. Lord knows plenty of people in here are good at doing just that when things more often than not are going fairly well in the grand scheme of things.

Why Isn't Stuart Playing on the Powerplay?
SouthernWingsFan replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Then send Coach Babcock a telegram then about what you want to do because I'm sure he's already considered such a thing. Samuelsson has more offensive potential than Chelios. -

I think you are overreacting just a touch there. -
Why Isn't Stuart Playing on the Powerplay?
SouthernWingsFan replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I also forgot to mention that one of the reasons Stuart isn't playing on the powerplay is because one of Babcock's hobbies is to piss off a certain percentage of members of the LGW population for reasons just like this. -
Seems like the people on RedWingsCorner know what they are talking about as others agree. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...1128/SPORTS0103

It really doesn't. Because if Darth Vader went into water, wouldn't he be electrocuted b/c he's part machine? I dunno, I guess I'm just a weird and strange person... *shrugs*

I understand and appreciate how "modern" arenas look, but for me personally in the grand scheme of things, I don't worry too much about the stadium appearance. Just give me bathroom stalls to urinate in and an A/C system that works to keep the arena temperatures comfortable and I'm satisifed more often than not. I'm not hard to please or high-maintenance when it comes to stadium amenities or entertainment outside the game. I don't get bored easily and I go to sporting events live to watch the game on the playing surface/ice, not so much the stuff outside the game.

What good would have come of him saying the call was wrong? This means the credibility of the referees would be in question then. And I would not be worried about an instance such as this "marring" the NHL in terms of respectability. It's not going away, it will continue to have a majority of its hardcore fans, etc. This will do little/nothing to deter any new fans from joining the sport more in-depth.

Why Isn't Stuart Playing on the Powerplay?
SouthernWingsFan replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Because he's not a right-handed shot, and Babcock wants a right-handed shot on the point of the PP, and Samuelsson has a hard shot. -
WHAT'D YOU DO?!?!?!

I don't really see what he is incorrect at with this article at initial glance. Teetering like he is on the doom-and-gloom see-saw when the team has gone 9-1 in their last 10 games is a bit of a stretch, but you can't say that the secondary scoring for this team has not dried up the last 3 games minus a Darren Helm and Jiri Hudler goal. It is definitely unrealistic to expect your team to score 5+ goals a game obviously, but you need your 2nd line to try to chip in one or at least put the pressure on offensively. As much as the Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom line has been doing good, it is unrealistic as well to think they will score multiple goals a night either. Others need to chip in as well. That being said, you can pretty much apply this theory to almost any team, espeically in the playoffs when goal scoring is typically lower, as every team pretty much has "secondary scoring" issues.

Wonderfully stated. I'm going to address your last paragraph first. It's a lot like the ridiculous "Media Bias Against the Detroit Red Wings (or *Insert Your Favorite Team Here*)" syndrome. Basically, if an announcer doubts the Red Wings/your favorite team or gives excuses to the other team losing, even if those doubts about the Red Wings/other team are fairly legit, that means MEDIA OUTLET/ANNOUCER BAD. Throw everything in reverse, then ANNOUCER GOOD. No if's, and's, or but's. Basically it's almost impossible in here lately for a media outlet to have uncertainties about the Red Wings without being labeled a basher or that media outlet being retarded when the source is still probably very knowledgable. It's really pitiful to see fan response to this in here sometimes. There can be a middle ground in this, much like what you are describing with trying to officiate. I have some experience being a sports official for games of soccer and basketball years ago when I was in college, and I officiated games at a much slower level than professionally (but to where the players still knew how to play the game and were respectable playing, etc.). It definitely wasn't easy for me then and at that level. I certainly made my fair share of bad calls. I've said it multiple times and I'll repeat that while I didn't like the call against Holmstrom, I can't blame the referee for calling the no-goal trying to make a heat-of-the-moment judgment decision. I'm more frustrated that such an occasion isn't reviewable to get the call 100% correct or as close to 100% accurate as possible. What do you all expect Bettman to do, not stand by his officials? I understand perhaps maybe saying you didn't think a call was right, but Bettman is the commissioner of the league no matter how much we piss and moan. You expect him to put down his own league that he runs? That's ridiculous. That is like a CEO putting his/her own company down. Bettman is going to publicly stroke the league's ego as best he can and say that everything is hunky-dory towards the public, that's part of his job doing PR. As a few have thankfully at least reecognized and are aware of, he's not going to be involved in negative public relations when he runs the league, that's stupid. And before somebody tells me to lay off the peace pipe, I will also emphasize again that Bettman is far from my favorite and I still say the call on the no-goal was bogus. I'm just trying to give more insight than just saying BETTMAN BAD or the 12-year old immature cursing explicatives toward him without any other insight.

NBC rarely broadcasts major sporting events at night in my experience watching things on there. And golf tournaments are typically broadcasted around "errand" time as well over the weekend, MLB games during summer on the weekends on FOX or ESPN, and I was unsure what it was like in the beginning of the regular season but late in the season the NBA had matinee games on a fair amount of Sundays on ABC. Not just an NHL thing.

Per MLive Red Wings http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...tice_but_e.html (last/2nd paragraph)

Good grief. All we ever hear about in here regarding him is people complaining "OMG BARRY MELROSE IS AN IDIOT HE HATES THE WINGS HE ALWAYS PICKS AGAINST THE WINGS!!!!" He actually thinks the no-goal should have counted in the Red Wings favor, and has been all over humping the Red Wings' legs and stroking their egos lately. And people are still complaining "OMG BARRY YOU JOINED TOO LATE GET OFF, YOU ARE STILL STOOOPID!" I am convinced that some people in here will never be happy in life.

Sorry, I'm not a conspiracy theorist and don't think referees have other "bad" intentions. EDIT: As Coach Babcock said the referee made a bad call, that's life. I am very confident he meant that all people make mistakes and floop up at times, like this referee did, nothing more and nothing less. It'd help if other people didn't try to read between the lines as well.
