Ah, the I've played hockey and you haven't argument, hence I automatically know more than you. Give me a break. I don't give a damn which goaltender you or anybody else likes or hates more, save it with the bias or anti-bias bulls**t. Osgood is the goaltender that gives the Red Wings the best chance to win right now. Hasek was very integral in helping the Wings win the Cup in 2002, was very intergral in helping the Wings make it to the WCF last year when many were calling for another early round upset, and very integral in helping the Wings get the top seed for the playoffs. He unfortuantely didn't completely do his part in the playoffs but he, along with Osgood, helped the Wings this season fairly equally. This is not going to be a stupid goaltender flame war. For the love of god, please nobody make any more posts suggesting or hinting that this will be a goalie flame war so the few dips**ts in this thread who have spewed their anti-goalie vitol don't have any more ammo to use to post, please nobody make any biased posts or anti-biased posts toward either goalie. We have had the benefit of having two very solid goalies play for the same team in not one, but two straight seasons, and one of them is coming up big for the team right now. Leave it at that. As NFM#25 says more/less, Red Wings life is much more clearer when you care about the TEAM more than your favorite goalie.

As I've said in other threads, fans of the Red Wings can spin stories one way, and fans of other teams can spin the exact same column/analysis absolutely the other way that the Red Wings have had the referees in their pockets, VS annoucers are actually biased towards the Wings and actually not giving the Stars excuses, etc. etc., fans of a third or fourth team can spin the exact same story even a 3rd or 4th way due to their fan bias and so forth. I don't know what you have been watching, but from paying half-assed to NHL Network and ESPN recaps lately about the Red Wings, plenty of analysts have been humping their legs and stroking their egos plenty. Even LGW-whipping analyst Barry Melrose. They were all definitely stroking the Red Wings ego last night.

At ease solider. Step away from the computer, stand up, take a few deep breats, relax. Plenty of series have been close this year. Wings-Predators went to 6 games. Flames-Sharks went to 7 games. Stars-Ducks went to 6 games. Wild-Avalanche went to 6 games. Capitals-Flyers went to 7 games. Canadiens-Bruins went to 7 games. Sharks-Stars went to 6 games.

Because it takes 4 games to win a series no matter who the opponent is or whether they are "overmatched" or not. The Wings have won nothing yet. The cockiness and arrogance on this board continues to amaze me.

Last 8:00 minutes roughly was as good of shut-down defense I have seen lately in a Wings game. Just completely toying with the other team keeping possession of the puck while they try to play comeback. I'm not one to brag all that much but the last part of the 3rd period was as good as I've seen and that is how you play shut-down defense.

And Filppula has even less points overall than Samuelsson. So is Flipper riding on the Mule's back as well then?

Greetings greetings. You'll find plenty of fans in here whining that the Red Wings aren't getting enough respect or other teams are losing to the Red Wings because of "excuses" or people are tired of people humping Crosby's and Malkin's legs. What can you do though they are two of the main faces in the NHL so they are going to be promoted heavily, it's all but a given so I don't get mad if they are talked about a lot and our guys in Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't get talked about enough. It is also impossible to not go broadcasting a game for nearly 3 hours or giving post-game analysis to where a fan of one team claims anti-bias, and a fan of another team claims anti-bias another way for his/her team from the same comments that an annoucer might make. I try not to get into all that stuff too in-depth. From an entertainiment standpoint, I'd take a Wings-Penguins final in a heartbeat cause the pace will probably be ridiculously fast. From a matchup standpoint, I want neither, just give us the by default so I don't have to spend any more nights on the sofa on edge. LMAO! I will repeat this over and over again to such questions about wanting to change the lineup... In a long winning streak unless somebody gets injured, you do make dramatic changes with the roster and lines. Hudler has been kicking butt with Helm and McCarty. And I don't care if people say that Samuelsson has been riding the coattails of Franzen doing good, him and Franzen and Filppula have seemed to have great chemistry on that line. And if you say that Samuelsson has been riding Franzen's great play, should we be pulling the same card out for Filppula then? Or is it just because, "No SWF, Filppula gets a free pass because ZOMG I JUST HATE SAMUELSSON!" Heck, even the last two games which the line has been forced to change, I think the Flipper-Samuelsson-Cleary line has looked fairly solid minus one terrible giveaway by Samuelsson I think shortly after the 3rd goal last game.

This is just one goofball's (mine) opinion... If the Wings advance to the next round and if they dispatch of the Penguins or Flyers fairly quickly, Osgood should get serious #1 consideration. If Franzen is able to come back soon and still contribute offensively, I'd give him serious #1 consideration. Besides those two, Datsyuk and Zetterberg are a tie for consideration, followed by Lidstrom and Kronwall I think.

Osgood certainly deserves his fine from game 3 at the end there. He can deny it all he wants (and I definitely like Osgood and all that stuff, etc.), but he and Ribeiro knew what they were doing at the end of that game. Neither action was accidental. That being said, you are right that Turco is being a bit hypocritical calling Osgood gutless in this scenario. While trips and even cross checks/smacks to the head et al aren't out of the ordinary in hockey obviously, you don't or shouldn't expect them from goaltenders that much, especially multiple times in one game. I certainly don't mind Turco calling Osgood out on his blooper, but recognize your own goof-ups as well, you are doing some of the same things too.

Yep, game 3 against Colorado for a brief time in the 1st period. Wings have been very impressive these last 2 series obviously, and I'm definitely feeling good about things, but the job isn't finished yet. I want them to finish this series Wednesday night, finish it ASAP to not give Dallas any more confidence than needed to get back in this series.

I'm done with the whole "Analyst ABC is biased towards team 123" bit. I've learned or come to the conclusion that it is all but impossible to annouce a 3-hour game in any sport, or give post-game analysis for 30 minutes - 1 hour as best/normal as you can without your broadcasting partners or fans of any team to claim pro-bias or anti-bias in any way possible, whether it is the Red Wings, Penguins, Stars, Penguins, Ducks, District-5 Pee Wee Hockey Team, Minneapolis Hawks, or Iceland Vikings. Die hard fans (not everybody, but certainly at least a few) who are really into their teams will often spin or read too much into things and twist broadcaster's comments as being against their team if the broadcaster shows even the slightest inkling of controversy or doubt towards the team, even if those doubts seem legit. I'm not wasting time getting worked up over the media pimping Crosby and Malkin, b/c it's bound to happen, they are two of the main faces of the NHL. As much as we all want Datsyuk and Zetterberg to be of the same stature across the league, it is a cold hard truth. It will happen in discussions. Crosby and Malkin are two of the main faces in the league, so I don't get all up in arms when they are often discussed and the Red Wings or Datsyuk/Zetterberg might not be discussed as often. I'm not going to act shocked if it sounds like the media are finally giving credit to the Red Wings (which is utter nonsense IMO, but that's another story) b/c I know they've been doing good for quite a while and on this 9-game winning streak, etc. I'm not going to get too worked up over the Stars comments/excuses of being "too tired" after game 1 or "missed opportunities" or shooting pucks wide because we did or are going to see those comments a mile away. Bottom line is any fan can twist an analyst's words/commentary in any spin he or she wants to in order to claim pro or anti-bias towards his/her team in plenty of different ways, and a fan of another team can twist those same broadcasters words another way. It is an endless cycle that isn't worth getting too upset over.

BlueMonk and Dabura, spot on with your last posts, I 100% agree. You take stuff like what Cherry (or other loudmoth/opinionated people) says with a grain of salt and with not much seriousness. I rarely see him on TV since no TSN/CBC or Canadian channels where I'm from way down south obviously, but I enjoy that he's passionate about the sport, passionate about wanting the game to be played a certain way, and I don't care how tacky his suits might be, I like somebody that at least tries to dress with style.

QFT. While I'm definitely all about "standing up" to people and the like, the first "team toughness" aspect that Babcock described is much more important I think. This team showed it last year in the playoffs going to the WCF so nobody should be all too surprised to see them displaying it again this year.

The hostility is quite simple really. Any inkling towards controversy against the Red Wings/Detroit or not praising the Red Wings or stroking their egos 24-7-365 = ANNOUCER BAD Put everything the other way around = ANNOUCER GOOD

No doubt about it, I'm definitely not excusing Riberio's actions whatsoever. He was wrong, just like Osgood was, hence me stating I understand why both were fined.
