What can ya do? Do I wish they get more credit, of course, but I try not to get too wrapped up in terms of what other people think of the Wings. It's their opinions, and their job is to analyze stuff to the millionth power and come up with things to talk about to last into more than just a 1-minute conversation. Just take them with a grain of salt. I know the Wings played good, I know they were the better team last night without question, regardless of "x-factors" or Dallas "rust" or "calls"/"no-calls" or whatever else. That's more than enough satisfaction for me.

Quoted for truth. I'll be the first to admit, the Wings have had plenty of good breaks this year in terms of being healthy for the most part and "ideal" matchups, but you take what is given to you in the playoffs in terms of matchups, health, the nights of the games, etc. Wings were just the better team overall in game 1, "rusty"/injuries or neither from either team. We'll see if the script is different in game 2....

Helm must've personally set off the fire alarms or rang a loud siren in the Stars wing of their hotel room, b/c I saw them throw checks at him the most all evening. Seriously, so far he's been one of the better behind-the-scenes feelgood stories I think this playoffs. As much as I'd like to see Maltby and McCarty get some more playing time due to their playoff experience, you just can't take Helm out right now. He's making little/no brainfart plays and he's doing a solid job of getting the 4th line some realistic offensive chances.

Wings in 7. Pretty much in agreement with what Turkey said, and OsGOD to a lesser extent. Am I humping Morrow's leg and thinking he is a demi-god? Absolutely not. Is he a very good player though? Yes. Is he one of the Stars better players on a consistent basis? Yes. There's still plenty of hockey left in this series and for Morrow to contribute in a positive way to the Stars.

See above. There's a difference between being positive and being cocky and arrogant.

Can't ask for a much better game and overall performance by the Wings, but it's just 1 GAME. It takes 4 GAMES to win a series, let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

From one idiot's judgement (me) at the time years and years ago when so many "crease" goals were disallowed, I think you could be in the crease and a goal would still be allowed if (1) you weren't "interfering" with the goaltender obviously and (2) the puck was the first thing that entered the crease )an offensive/attacking player wasn't there first. I remember back in 1998 in the playoffs during one game Joe Kocur scored a goal where he one-timed or redirected a pass right on the crease area, the puck entered the crease and he redirected in, THEN his skates went in the crease area after the puck did. No run-in/interference with the goalie in that scenario either. If the puck entered the crease, an offensive player entered the crease after, then the puck left the crease, then ended up in the net with that offensively player still in the crease I think, then that is not a legal goal I think. Now/today, you can be in the crease all you want regardless of when the puck enters/goes in as long as you aren't interfeering with the goaltender I think. In terms of Holmstrom's goal, I think there's a legitmate argument that he interfered. Not b/c he was in the crease, but there looked to be some, albeit small, contact with Turco. If Turco sells the play on his part a bit better and takes a chance and does an acting job and "flops", he might've gotten an interference call.

Morrow is a non-issue? How do you know? The series hasn't even started yet. I think some of you are getting a little ahead of yourselves here...

Wheel of Maggie!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All right that doesn't sound as good as Wheel of Fortune. *shrugs*

Not surprised at all, and it has nothing to do with Maltby and the quality of play he shows out on the ice. 6 wins in a row. Nothing broken, so nothing needs fixing as long as everybody is healthy.
-
We should be concerned of Morrow. He's a helluva player. And people saying they aren't worried about him are kidding themselves I think.

Given how so many people in here go so obnoxious and apes**t whenever somebody picks against the Wings or doesn't fully support the WINGS ROOL!!!!!!!! theory, this thread exists. Who makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up the highest and why? Press the issue!

I don't care if Turco has gotten a bad Detroit record at JLA. These teams didn't make the WC Finals by mistake. Both teams are more than capable of going to the SC Finals, regardless of past "hexes" against other teams. Throw the stats and any past blunders against a certain team out the window, they mean very little. Every game is different.

Meh, looks like we just got to roll with this aspect of what most fans typically do (which isn't a bad thing).

TSN: Wings were "manhandled" by Ducks last yr
SouthernWingsFan replied to redwinger4747's topic in General
And who cares what "analysts" think as well. They want to think the Wings got "manhandled" last year, that's fine, it's their opinion. I'm not going to get all bent out of shape over a sports opinion. It doesn't change the fact that while they were outplayed physically to a small extent in that series, it isn't like they were cowering away, etc. etc. It also doesn't change the fact that the Wings are in the WCF again this year using a blend of "physical" hockey, to some degree.
