Nah, just worsening eyesight given I'm in front of a computer just about 9 hours out the day. The person below me wants to grow a Chef Moustache.

Conklin is my first choice, partially for nostagila. I barely saw him during his time for St. Louis and I know by numbers he struggled but I really liked him here and for the most part the latter part of his career from Buffalo/Pitt onward has been good. Would be cool to give Nabakov a shot, that's my 2nd choice I guess. I think Emery has cleaned up whatever attitude problems he might have, but I think health is a risk with him. Not a lot of options but I don't think they'll all be snatched up overnight. Will be quite happy if Conklin is signed by the end of the week if what's being rumored is true presently.

You deserved every bit of your response. It may have been time for to move on, pretty much everybody here gets that. It's all about the delivery though. And your delivery was awful, bascially like a "See ya wouldn't want to be ya" response disrespecting a guy who accomplished so much here and accomplished so much while getting ragged on by his own fanbase, regardless of whether you like him or not. So you should not be shocked one bit at some of the negative responses you got back. Not that hard to understand. Think about it for a bit.

Why the Detroit Red Wings are headed for a fall
SouthernWingsFan replied to Nightfall's topic in General
The Detroit Red Wings aren't really on a decline. Other teams have just caught up, partially with a salary cap in place to help out and how standings wins/losses/ties etc. are determined. Which I'm fine with overall, I like the competition. Not getting into the ZOMG ESPN schtick as that is beyond old and outdated in here, sorry. And pretty much in agreement with #2 of hooon. -
Just perfectly stated. If you (as in you in general, not you specficially VM) wanted him to retire because of the health angle or because if you thought it was finally time, cool. It was going to happen much sooner than later. But to possibly kick him to the curb in a bi-polar manner like you say or be celebrating with fireworks that he retired because of the bi-polarness or if you might not like him, if you are one of those people and I saw you face-to-face right now, I'd probably knock you upside the head. As much as I love the Wings I absolutely cannot stand how, generally speaking, a lot of them just s**t on goalies in a beyond obsessive manner. And Osgood didn't make one possible stink about the fans here. Didn't cause a scene and the like when they chose Hasek over him and he had to go elsewhere temporarily (and he could have easily done so which I wouldn't have blamed him because I guarantee it probably hurt him that his days in Detroit then were numbered). Didn't cause a stink with not being a full-time starter or backup his past few seasons here. He just wanted to play for the Wings. As ultimate a team player as you'll find in recent memory.

95 and dry. I live in heat and humidity all summer down here so any dry weather I appreciate. I rarely complain about it though and don't like when people who should be used to certain types of whether whine about weather when it is supposed to be as expected (when it isn't really inconveniencing you...major storm, you get the picture). I wish it wasn't as humid but this is summer down here, but it ain't changing so I'm not going to waste my energy sulking about it. It's almost always not as bad as it is made out to be. or (EDIT: To sound a little less a**ish, I meant temperatures above. I'm not going to whine when it's 90-95 and over 75% humidity down here during the summer. It's supposed to be that way. Just like I'm not going to complain if I'm ever up north in the wintertime and it's 15 or 20 degrees or whatever. It's supposed to be that way. And cold usually doesn't bug me all that much. If it storms over and over again or blizzards and you can't drive to work or are stranded et al, that's another deal alltogether obviously).

Can't say that I do compared to other seasons. I'm healthy, in shape, not overweight, so I guess I should stick with the diet I have throughout all seasons. The person below me likes messing with other people at the office or their place of work.

I excel at wasting time!!! :carrot:

You can be happy the organization is moving on with perhaps a healthier option, if that is indeed what is truly happening, without being a d**khead.

More cowbell!!!!

Would be cool to see it happen, and I'm not really familiar with how balloting/time works etc., but I highly doubt they'd make an exception for Lidstrom even though he's a great player, or for anybody else in general.

What didn't you like about the Lost Symbol? Not trying to dog you, I did the same thing twice with the book I'm currently reading (and that I now am enjoying), mainly because there were so many characters/confusion, etc.

Never thought about it, don't really think about the concept. Just enjoying my life presently and I'll still enjoy it if I do go the love route with somebody. The person below me thinks this outfit is silly looking, and thinks that Brian Wilson needs to shave.

Not a fan of mustard or school bus yellow by default but those actually look pretty decent together with the blue.

Still some noise about Wings picking up a top 4 Dman
SouthernWingsFan replied to Din758's topic in General
Would be very interested and curious to see if such a thing would happen, as I assume they still have a good bit of cap space room to make something happen if they wanted, but I'm not holding my breath. I think the defense is all but set. We all know what Lidstrom and Stuart and Krownall will bring, hopefully Ericsson will play a bit more aggressive/inspired with a new big contract (regardless of whether you think he is overpaid or not, that's not the point of this and I really don't want to go into that saga), Ian White was a good signing, and hopefully Commodore can fill one of the 5th/6th slots effectively. On paper, looks fairly solid. -
My favorite teams are obviously the Red Wings, all sports for my college alma mater (went to school in Texas), the New Orleans Saints since I've lived here all my life, and I'm also an LSU fan even though I didn't go there for school. I've deviated some from the Saints when they were bad for a good bit of the 90s, but I'll still watch them and do good. Same with LSU. As for how I liked Detroit, a good bit of it came with them being good at the time (mid 90s) and just starting to get into hockey in general. So, I guess you could say how I like teams is that I am extremely devoted to the places I live or have ties to, or I like teams that are good. Given that I barely miss any Wings games now and they are still good, I hope to still follow them plenty whenever they start to hit a downslide. As for disliking teams or players, sure I have them, but it takes a lot to really really want me to see a team or players fail or get into heated rivalries and things like that. I get them, but I don't like going into it. People anywhere in Texas are/were abosolutely beyond nuts about their allegiances or dogging other state schools and that's just something I never got into when I was there (actually I frequently run into a Texas A&M alum at my gym most days but we never get into rivalries and stuff, not worth it to either of us - I went to TCU), a lot of LSU fans down here go off the deep end in disliking pretty much any other SEC Conference school, I've seen plenty of examples of Wings fans in here just going overboard in dislike. Again I get it, it can be fun but I've just seen way too many instances of it going overboard so I just pretty much stick to wanting my team to win and that's it. Bottom line there's not right/wrong reason to really start liking or following a team.

And who could blame him? If I was a professional athlete I'd certainly want to go as long as my body can take it and I have a desire to play, win and do something that's fun and get paid to do it. Is it selfish? Yeah, but that's not necessarily a bad thing in this case. If management thinks that he is being too "selfish" to where it is a detriment to the team, they'll tell him it is time to finally move on. When Osgood was in last season, he did fine (not really the case the season before). It is risky in one way if Osgood comes back with the healthy angle, but low-risk to me in another way. I think MacDonald is more than capable of being backup (EDIT: if the need arises where he has to be called up for more than just a game or two). Minus one game against St. Louis where pretty much everybody there s**t a brick, he played very well last season for the most part, had good numbers, etc. You could certainly make the case that goaltending depth is thin or worrysome, but I'm looking at it from the half-glass full view. Howard has proved he can play when it counts in the postseason. We all know Osgood has been loyal to the Wings/vice versa and can still play in a reduced role. MacDonald and the organization are familiar with each other. Heck, if they go the Conklin route, that worked out well the season he was here, so I'd be all for that. I don't think the situation is as dire as could be perceived (though I certainly get the worrysome angle, it is legitmate). EDIT: A part of me though wants Osgood to retire, for the only reason because of fans in here and in general acting like moronic lunatics towards him so they'd just shut the hell up about him finally.

Nah, no more/less or better/worse stress than pretty much any working adult has to go through with work and going through the grind and the like. And even if I did I probably wouldn't talk about it much, I don't like burdening people with problems I might have when pretty much everybody else has to go through them every day as well. I always look forward to the hockey season during the summer, but am always very occupied with work or other things, so I am patiently waiting. The person below me thinks that I am a wuss for being scared of women!
