Your thoughts on Ozzie's performance in game 5
SouthernWingsFan replied to Chaldean's topic in General
He did what he had to do, thankfully didn't have to stand on his had. BOTH the defense AND the goalie played better last night. It wasn't just Hasek, it wasn't just the defense the last two games that were terrible, it was EVERYBODY. I'm not playing the scapegoat. There's nothing else that Osgood could have done given how the game went. D played well, he stopped shots when needed, Nashville just had a solid sequence in the empty net goal that was a near perfect shot by Bonk. -

He just wasn't burying his chances last night, but not because of lack of effort. He's been far from the best Wing but to say he has been invisible is a bit of a stretch. He's still getting involved in the offense and creating some chances.

Good. A change in momentum is needed to spark these guys. I haven't read any responses in this thread, nor do I probably want to since a lot of them are probably snarky anti-Hasek remarks or Osgood vs. Hasek slappies, so I apologize for rehashing anything somebody else has said, I'll leave you all with this... Again I am all for this as I stated above. And I think Osgood should be the guy to try to finish out this series assuming he doesn't get lit up et al. Hasek has been pretty bad yes, but so has the defense in letting the rapid-fire goals. It's not just Hasek, it's not just the defense. It is everybody. I refuse to play the scapegoat card. If the Wings are able to advance to the next round without Osgood having to stand on his head and steal two wins (Osgood just does his part making solid stops when needed and no soft goals), and Hasek is feeling sharp technically and is mentally at peace, then I think you re-evaluate the goaltending options. So, count me among the assumed few that think that Hasek isn't completely done. This doesn't mean I want Osgood to fail or that I am trying to play favorites. I like both goalies, I am in full support of the current change, I want Osgood to kick butt, I want Hasek to get his game back. Unless Osgood just steals 2 wins (which he is capable of doing) on his own to where you just can't take him out, I don't think we've seen the last of Hasek by any stretch of the imagination.

Here's me at a convention out of town for work this week. My boss was just taking random pics for the most part and I was just walking away from our table area when he took the 2nd pic, but it looks like I'm doing the robot or something else weird so I thought it was worth posting. miller76, you got a cute kid man. He's adorable.

What are the preds fans saying after a goal?
SouthernWingsFan replied to Firehawk's topic in General
Oh please with the class bulls**t hypocrisy again. I've heard this chant yelled out from other fans of other teams as well. The area where I am from used to have a minor league hockey team and fans yelled the exact same thing after New Orleans scored a goal. I could think of 500 things worse that fans could yell. And at least they consistently make noise, which I can't say the same about Joe Louis Arena (yes I get that games 1 and 2 the crowd atmosphere was pretty good). The discontent towards Nashville fans in here amuses me so much and I seriously cannot understand what they do that makes some so terrible and classless as a fan base. Heaven forbid they actually cheer and support their team and give them a rise and motivation. -
Time for a better thread topic?

If we lose this series, will Holland be fired?
SouthernWingsFan replied to ShanahanMan's topic in General
To simply put it, no. And I don't think there's much point for any further explanation. -
I haven't read any previous posts in here and have no interest to as probably at least 3/4 of them or HASEK SUCKS without much thought into them. That being said, I think you got to put Osgood in this next game. Hasek is not done by any stretch of the imagination, but Babcock should send a message I think to turn momentum around and not just give Hasek, but the entire team a kick in the butt to turn this series around. If this happens and they make it to the next round, then you re-evalutate the goaltending options. Whatever 'tender he chooses to go with tomorrow though, I'm in full support of his decision.

No. DISCLAIMER: I am not being a Negative Nancy or a doom-and-gloomer, just trying to keep things in perspective here. 1999: 2nd round, led 2-0 against Colorado, lost 4-2 2001: 1st round, led 2-0 against LA, lost 4-2 2002: 1st round, trailed 2-0 against Vancouver, won 4-2 2004: 1st round, led 2-0 against Nashville, won 4-2 2008: 1st round, led 2-0 against Nashville, series tied From above, my three points are this: (1) A series is not even remotely close to being over if a team has gone up 2-0 (2) We've seen Red Wings defense et al completely melt down in the playoffs before and blow series leads or big leads on the scoreboard (3) We've seen the Red WIngs rebound from such adversity as well

Basically anywhere in/around where I live since hockey is like the 50th popular sport overall. Seriously though, I rarely get any weird/snarky looks from people if I ever wear Wings apparel or the jersey thinking I am a clown, but it usually strikes up a brief conversation here and there with why I like hockey, who are good players or teams in the playoffs, or whatever else. Nothing blatantly towards the negative side. I went out Saturday evening for dinner and a few drinks after the game and had my Wings Holmstrom jersey on and was watching the playoffs for the hour or so I was there and hockey was the icebreaker () for me and a few people where I was around. I'm fortunate to work at a job/company where I can dress casual more often than not wearing blue jeans and the like if I don't have a business meeting with a client or potential new business, so I've worn the jersey a few times this year during game days. The first time I wore it people in the office were making fun of me and were like, "What the heck is that?" in a joking way of course. I'll probably wear it tomorrow during work since it's a game day.

True, but far, FAR more would want his head grilled in a barbeque. Me I'm more of a middle man who has never understood the obnoxious over-obession on goaltenders here.
-
Um, it's only been 3 games. I think you are getting ahead of yourself just a bit. And plenty of other teams in this league have had "non-Euros" not show up in the playoffs. See Joe Thornton in Bruins days or Patrick Marleau for the Sharks. It's not a stereotype unless you want to believe it is.
-
You haven't been around here much lately than. A lot of people have wanted Dominik Hasek canned this season...
-
I wouldn't say he is invisible in the sense of getting his butt kicked, I guess I might have to look harder at future games to see if he is getting pushed around, but besides that I think he's been the most underperforming Wing so far unfortunately. He missed a few chances to bury pucks on Saturday obviously, it happens to the best of people sometimes, but he's been passing up a fair amout of opportunities to shoot I think. He's not going to be scratched anytime soon me thinks, I'm definitely not suggesting it either as I like the kid and we all know he's got the tools, but he needs to pick up his end of the slack some.

For those of you who thought this was embarrassing or hurts the integrity of the sport, get a sense of humor. I realize they just made an unsportsmanlike penalty/rule for this this morning or last night or whenever, which I can understand and support because it's the minimum consequence I would have chosen, but at the time of the situation/game Avery didn't high-stick anybody, he didn't enter the crease, he made no contact with Brodeur. No high-sticking or goalie interference call. He was just being Tomas Holmstrom or Ryan Smyth in front of the net being a pain in the butt to Brodeur's vision, LEGALLY (before the unsportsmanlike rule), in an entirely unorthodox and creative manner. Nothing more/less. I found it curiously funny. It will have no effect on watching the game, negative perceptions, or whatever else. The game will just go on like normal. And Avery has done a lot worse in his career OFF the ice. I seriously do not understand why there is so much of a hissy fit over this.

I know we as Wings fans are nutjobs when talking about goalies, which is why I talk about them as little as possible, and I know this will fly over everybody's head, but solely putting this loss on Hasek is ridiculous. Arnott's shot if I'm not mistaken was off the crossbar/post and in, or damned close to it. It was a near perfectly placed slapshot that probably wasn't going to be stopped unless the goaltender was bearhugging the post. Hasek probably could've had the 3rd but there was some screening/traffic here and there. If not for Hasek at times the Wings could easily be down 2-1 this series. Honestly the only bad one I think he gave up was goal #3 last night. We can yell at him Saturday afternoon for the 1st goal OMG HASEK STAY IN NET YOU DORK! but nobody was anticipating that puck taking a weird bounce in front of the net. It has defiintely happened before but Hasek wasn't and shouldn't change his game to worry about that. I would tell him to do the same thing in that scenario 100 out of 100 times. If you were anticpating that the puck was going to knuckleball back to the front of the net like that, I want you to predict that I will win the lottery or go on a date with Jessica Biel because these three things are full of crap obviously. Hasek is far from done, I think for the most part he's been very solid, it's way too early to pull the plug on him. I'm very comfy with Osgood if needed, who wouldn't be after how he played this season, but until Hasek plays downright terrible in a game I don't want any changes. He hasn't played downright terrible, not even close.

I find it really amusing that you of all people start this thread when you seem to captain the Positivity Police on here and feed on the opportunity to jump down people's throats and chew them out for even showing an inkling of being negative and pinning losses on scapegoats, and when you recently made a thread after a recent loss making fun of people who pull the scapegoat card. You can come back at me with, "Well that's only when people are predicting doom-and-gloom or that a series or season is over, and because of reasons A, B, C, and D as well. Player ripping is a different situation and doesn't count." I know you are all about maintaining a good attitude more often than not, but you are being ridiculously hypocritical here in this thread by pinning Lilja as a scapegoat yourself when you jump all over people's cases for doing similar actions in other situations, and there is nothing you can say to convince me otherwise. Think about this the next time you go bonkers on people's cases the next time they might overpanic or place ridiculous amounts of blame on one person. In terms of Lilja, yes the play, or lack thereof, on Arnott's goal is frustrating, but what can we do? It happened, we all have to put it behind us and move on from it. I may be wrong as I'm definitely not behind the scenes, but I highly doubt Babcock is going to make much noise in roster changes next game because of these two quick goals, at least in the knee-jerk overreaction style. The flubbed pass last year against Anaheim in game 5, that can happen to anybody. Delay of game late in a game when it cost us a win at Edmonton that Lilja unfortunately commited, that can happen to anybody (see Radek Bonk, if I am not mistaken, in a recent Wings-Predators regular season game late in the 3rd period which helped give the Wings clinch the Presidents Trophy). It isn't just a "Lilja syndrome". Blowing a tire falling down skating, broken sticks, it's comparable to that to me and it happens to the best of people. Hell one of the regular season games we won at Anaheim this year, one of the Duck players was just trying to make a routine pass around their defensive blue line with little/no pressure by the Wings that certainly didn't look like the Wings would pick off or capitalize on in normal circumstances, and his stick broke on the pass attempt which led to a 2-on-1 and a Wings goal by Flipper and was the game winner I think. Unfortuante instance like this happens every now and then. I don't remember whatever gaffe he might have had against Edmonton in the playoffs specifically. It's not like the entire defense is just downright terrible on a consistent basis these first three games for a full 60 minutes, Lilja included. Just tighten up immediately after something might go south such as a goal to curb opposing momentum some. They are experienced enough to figure this out, Lilja included. I'll respect and understand and be in support of Babcock's decision if he goes with Lebda over Lilja next game, but Lilja is important for his penalty killing and blocking shots. The Wings need him this series and this year's playoffs. Lilja is far from my favorite and he may make some bad brainfarts from time-to-time but he isn't solely responsible for some of the Wings recent losses or failures. You can blame Hasek for a questionable soft goal or possibly two, Stuart for hitting the post, Flipper for struggling so far, or a myriad of other things the Wings could or couldn't do in the grand scheme of things either last night or last playoff season or whatever.

Quoted for truth. Just goes to show how ridiculous the whipping boy label has been attached to Samuelsson by people in here.
-
What are they supposed to do then if they haven't been in the league long enough or what you said above? Nothing? Sit on their hands like many people at JLA do? I understand the respect factor but again, Red Wings fans giving Nashville fans lessons on cheering etiquette is just so hypocritical when some Detroit fans seem to struggle speaking more than a whisper at a game.

Yeah, damn Hartigan for getting an assist on the first goal yesterday. Curse his name! He should have picked his boogars and then the puck magically would've found Drake and McCarty's stick for the goal! Seems like he did something yesterday.
