So? Detroit completely schooled Colorado ON THE ROAD the first two games in 1999 and Los Angeles in 2001 before losing the next 4 games in a row. We can throw all the scenarios on how good/bad a team played until all the beer in Milwakuee is consumed. It doesn't change the fact that a series isn't over until somebody wins 4 games and that things can go south for a team pretty quick. So I wouldn't be proclaiming to the world that you were right rubbing it in people's faces and yelling like you want a cookie just yet until the series is over.

Um, last time I checked it takes 4 games to win a playoff series. 1999: Detroit was up 2-0 against Colorado, lost the next 4 2001: Detroit was up 2-0 against Los Angeles, lost the next 4 2002: Detroit was down 2-0 against Vancouver, won the next 4 2008: Detroit is up 2-0 against Nashville, the series remains to be seen I wouldn't count my chickens before they hatch. None of these series are even remotely close to being over yet.

I gotcha, it's different environments definitely. It's been pretty well documented in here though by plenty of posters in the past that wished JLA was louder more often than not. And now we get on fans of another team for doing just that and being noisy/passionate, like they are wrong all of a sudden. That just doesn't sound right to me. Be proud/excited that you support a team with such a storied franchise and a team that is consistently good, but what Nashville fans do doesn't make their fan base pieces of scum. Don't make it sound that way, it makes our fan base sound bad.

New Orleans used to have a minor league hockey team in the mid/late 90s and fans there did the exact same chant when N.O. scored a goal as well. It isn't sole property/creation of the oh so horrible terrible classless Nashville franchise base. (/sarcasm) Seriously, I fail to see what is so terrible about it and it's pretty comical that people get so irked in here by it.

No more/no less than any other team. Refereeing is going to be questionable/inconsistent in every game. They aren't out to just get the Red Wings. That being said, I don't care how it has happened, the Wings are still up 2-0. Some of it is luck, and some of it is being good enough to capitalize of luck/questionable calls. Some of it is just being good overall regardless of the breaks/no breaks. It's been a combination of the three. I wouldn't call that a lack of respect at all. All teams need help and all teams step their game up at some point of the playoffs to win it all. I think some in here are just looking for an excuse to complain about with the whole disrespect tag.

At least they make noise almost the entire game...
-
Damn straight, at least they cheer and make noise on a consistent basis. Can't say the same about Red Wing fans overall at JLA. Doesn't make their fans classless at all. So I find it pretty hypocritical (classless could be stretching it but it comes close) that we are giving Nashville fans crap and lessons on "how to cheer" when JLA and Red Wing fans could easily make more noise on a more consistent basis. That certainly doesn't make us Red Wing fans on here sound good, so I think the original poster and the rest of us should stop acting all high and mighty like we are better. We sound spoiled, in a bad way. And while I personally don't like the OLE chant, at least the Canadian fans are doing something instead of sitting on their hands.

Okay some people in here need to stop reaching so far deep into the cookie jar to find stuff to complain about. Where, anywhere in that game recap would it have said if the Wings win it would be by cheating or whatever else? The game recap is just stating the facts. A few bad bounces for Nashville, a few questionable calls, Detroit benefited. Questionable calls are going to be there in every game, regardless of the teams or the opponent. Nothing more/less to look into here. Stop looking for unnecessary things to whine about.

If only it were that simple to many people in here. It's not that hard to me. It's still hockey in the grand scheme of things and I'm damned glad it is at least broadcasted nationally. Some could not have Versus. Some could only have maybe just a handful of broadcasts on NBC for the regular season and playoffs. Be thankful for what you have. You are watching hockey, just enjoy it and forget about all the other outside/broadcasting crap.

Can't say the Wings are wanted anymore...
SouthernWingsFan replied to This Is Bida's topic in General
As I've said in the two other threads where Coach Trotz is the main subject... I think it is perfectly fine more often than not to be critical of questionable calls as inconsistent officiating is a part of every game. You got to overcome those questionable calls/no-calls though yourself. It's not just the refs. Your team has to step up as well. Because to expect the refereeing to be 100% perfect or even close to it is unrealistic. I'm not saying that NHL referees are garbage, it's just a given that there's going to be uncertainty and questionable calls. -
In the Trotz thought Zberg goal shouldn't have counted thread, I stated that he and fans were well within their rights/fairness of being upset that Zetterberg's goal counted when it could have gone either way (offsides, Zetterberg trip). Today was a pretty wacky game, no goal early for the Predators et al, I don't need to explain any more as we watched. I still stand by that anybody can complain about inconsistent officiating and the like when calls might not be obvious. However, if all he's going to do is complain about the refs and not get on the players cases and what not, that's not good to me either. Bad breaks and inconsistent hockey calls are a part of every game, every period (as I also stated in that other thread). Again, I think it is perfectly fair for him to complain about it, but it's a part of every game and you and your team has to overcome those adversities or questionable calls. Because honestly, the only two players showing up for Nashville right now on a consistent basis are Ellis, and as much as I hate saying this, Tootoo. Their top line has barely done squat.

Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted

You are right that the replays isn't clear, and yes the Wings played a better game overall I think, but they still have a right to be p.o.'ed b/c the game was close. Doesn't matter if the game was tied, or if the Wings were winning 6-3 at that point. They have every right to be upset. Who knows what could happen in the last 10 minutes or however much time was left when Zetterberg scored. 6-4 then, they could easily make it 6-6 in that amount of time. Hypothetical example of course, but I'm just trying to demonstrate that a team "dominating" a game or the score doesn't really matter to voicing displeasure about a call here. If that goal didn't happen, there's a good possibility that the empty-net goal doesn't happen, and the game is still 1-1 and going into overtime. -

At least they cheer more often than not during the entire season, I can't say the same about Joe Louis Arena overall in a full season.
-
No lie. Tootoo doesn't care, he didn't care when he jumped Robidas in that Dallas game, and he probably will never care anytime soon. I'm all for McCarty still standing up to him and all that stuff obviously as it still does have an effect. At least Tootoo is showing that he has some capability of putting the puck in the net and not acting just like a cheap-shot punk like he does sometimes.

Are you talking recent years, or overall? Because winning 10 Stanley Cups, even though Montreal has won a lot more, is still plenty to me. I take it as a compliment as well. I don't really care if people aren't considering it is a salary cap era. Just shows that more often than not the Wings consistently know how to win a lot more than other teams.

Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted
SouthernWingsFan replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
Common sense is a scary thing on this site. Be careful how much you use... How many times have we complained about inconsistent officiating or questionable calls against the Wings? Quite a lot. Just because of the questionable nature of the play being in favor of the Wings that lead to a goal of a possible offside and penalty, either of which could have been called, and we're giving Trotz and Ellis crap for questioning the situation? They are supposed to act like angels here and not say anything about it? Give me a break. If the teams were reversed and it lead to a Predators goal, we'd all be screaming bloody murder for a review and that the referees didn't get it right and that it isn't fair. The "non-calls" may have been right in the grand scheme of things, but Trotz and the Predators and their fans certainly are well within the boundaries of fairness to question whether it was offside or Zetterberg tripped leading to the goal when both no-calls could have gone either way. It isn't black/white (or clearly definitive at least to me) to where it'd be obvious to say Trotz or Pred fans are acting out of line or being a bunch of whiney babies. There is a grey area and I think it’s perfectly fair to question a call in the grey area. Refereeing is never going to be perfect. It is going to be inconsistent and questionable pretty much every game, every period. That is a cold hard truth. We can certainly voice displeasure over a made/missed call, lord knows we did to death on the "net" goal against San Jose, but calling out an opposing coach/player/fan for doing the same on something that lead to a goal against them while we might not complain about the call or breath a sigh of relief is very, very hypocritical when there is a grey area involved. Either everybody can complain about the officiating, or nobody can. No picking and choosing of when people or certainly players/teams/coaches can complain or not or when it is legit/valid to complain when something could go either way. That's hypocritical. -
:violin: Who else outside your local affiliate broadcasts hockey nationally huh? Some people don't live in the immediate area to watch Red Wings games. Some people don't get NHL Center Ice. Versus and NBC is all some fans might possibly have. So I'll take any hockey that is being broadcasted nationally, thank you very much. If it is that torturous for you, hit the damn mute button on your TV.

I'm very curious to see what he'll bring to the table as well, largely because he seemed to play with a pretty big sense of urgency in the latter part of the regular season and threw his body around much more. The more wrecking balls (in a controlled manner ) the Wings can have in the playoffs, the better.

Should Downey Play in the first game
SouthernWingsFan replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
In terms of the last few forwards in the pecking order, I'd put Downey in over Hartigan and McCarty, but I'm definitely no master coach so Babcock must feel Hartigan has more potential to contribute in the playoffs over Downey, at least in terms of offensive potential I guess. -
Thank goodness there are still a minute few of level-headed posters out there who are actually thinking logically here. Pretty much right on the ball with this one. Samuelsson is far from a favorite of mine but he has more overall potential to contribute, in my opinion, than the ones above. To the few posts/posters in here that want him still injured or wish injury on him, and you know who you are, you are acting like little s**ts in this thread. I'm sorry, but you are at least in this thread. You may definitely be sarcastic about the situation, but wanting somebody to stay injured or wishing injury on somebody is just low and classless, even in a joking manner. It isn't funny just because Samuelsson is a regular whipping boy on here. It isn't entertaining. It's not right. It's stupid. And for people wanting Abdlekader in a full-time role over some of these guys, can we calm down here? I like what he has brought to the table in the 2 games he has been in, but it has been 2 GAMES. If he is given the chance, great, more power to him and I look forward to seeing if/when that happens, but he has to get a lot more seasoning in to be considered a regular over whipping boys or marginal 3rd or 4th liners in here. And I will guarantee you, if something like this happens (and I'm not wishing it to happen), the second Andlekader might commit a penalty or turn the puck over leading to a goal for the opposition in the playoffs which decides a game or playoff series, some of you will be fickle turn so fast on him and want to rip his you know what's off. I know how people can get in here. Think and don't let overdramatic obnoxious posts and dislikings towards certain players cloud your judgment.

Who Else Stays Up Late and Blows Work Off During Playoffs?
SouthernWingsFan replied to Firehawk's topic in General
I certainly don't blow off work since I like my job, but I try to watch every minute that I can. Of course I fell asleep in OT in the games that we beat the Flames and Sharks in last postseason. I can't just be to work late though because of hockey watching. And most of the time I'm usually up early around 5am to read the morning paper and eat breakfast to have enough time to exercise before work. -
After last year, I would think this wouldn't be too big a deal to people in here. Things are more expensive and the economy is struggling. Tickets prices are more expensive in the post-season. People need to save a buck. Who cares if it is only 90% full or not? The team is not a major reason because of it. Just enjoy watching them whether you are at the game live or in front of a television.
