Seems like everybody is realizing his improvment except some obsessive-compulsive posters in here who think that winning a spelling arguement over his name is much more important. (not you 55fan as we seem to be in agreement of making fun of the obsessive-compulsive posters in this thread )

Who do we WANT to play in the first round?

I'm going to say this over and over and over again to threads like this. DO NOT PICK YOUR POISON. We were all thrilled to see Edmonton in the 1st round 2006 playoffs because they supposedly played a "similar" game to Detroit and were supposedly clueless on how to play the trap. Well look what happened... I don't care what the matchup is, no series is going to be a cakewalk.

I think Krownall should just change his last name to something like )@#%_@$%!$^ just to confuse people on here even more. *shrugs* 55....is that actually a w or just two v's?

    Pronger at it again

Holmstrom returned to the game though, so you can't really say he was injured that badly to not continue or be out next game. Pronger got suspended Samuelsson got speared in the face last game against the Blackhawks (I forgot who it was exactly but it wasn't a bone-fide superstar), he eventually returned and played this evening. The Blackhawks player got suspended for a game. Look I'm not trying to pick a fight with you Duck Guy and I enjoy seeing fans of other teams post on here when they don't just start flame wars or talk 1-liner trash talk, you definitely don't get involved in that, and I have probably been one of the very few Wings fans in here that has thought people have gotten carried away with the PRONGER........BAD posts that occur so often in here, but you just cannot excuse stepping on somebody with a skate, whether the guy got injured or not. This doesn't change the fact that Pronger still is a great defenseman. But it doesn't change the fact either that this is another questionable act that he involved himself in as well that, in all likelihood, he could have easily avoided.

    Pronger at it again

I apologize in advance for re-stating points by other members as I have barely read any of this thread. I did see the "incident" this afternoon though. I'm sure Pronger is probably a good guy off the ice and I think a lot of people in here go really overboard with their dislike towards him in most cases, but the higher ups should be ashamed of themselves for not suspending him for being a repeat offender. No, I wish intentional injury on anyone and will not stoop low and do the same for Pronger, but eventually he is going to get what is coming to him by other players I think. Higher ups don't seem to want to do much about it which is sad. I'm not asking for anybody to injure him, throw him into the depths of purgatory, or any of that. I just want fair justice, nothing more/less, and him being suspended for a fair chunk of games would have done that, at least for me, but then again I'm just one idiot. I think it is incredibly hypocritical that they suspend a lesser known star in Chris Simon for 30 games and a more popular player like Pronger doesn't even get a slap on the wrist. It's like he has a Get Out of Jail Free card from Monopoly. I know there is politics and favoritism in pretty much any kind of job or profession, but 30 to none in scenarios of pretty cowardly acts is just ridiculous. And I'm no skating expert, but I find it hard to believe that this was could be "accidental". This isn't like basketball where you accidentally step on somebody's foot coming down out of the air after grabbing a rebound or diving for a loose ball or whatever. Skates make you a little taller than shoes/cleats, you have to pick up your strides a bit more on skates, and you would really have to lift your skate up a good bit to land it on somebody’s leg or calf while they were down. The league should be ashamed of itself, and Pronger should be ashamed of himself. I'm usually willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in terms of the hatred factor in here, and even when it is "physics" to a certain degree ( ), and he is still one helluva defenseman, but I am losing a lot of respect for his "questionable" hits or acts like this one, and losing respect for him fast. I think what I saw today made me finally join the Dark Side in regards to the Pronger disdain.

Hasek has sore back. Ozzie to start tomorrow night.

It doesn't matter to me who starts in the playoffs as long as both goalies are playing around the top of their game heading into the playoffs. I like both goaltenders. It can really be that simple people. I don't need 70 page essays of statistics to prove one guy deserves it over the other when both are doing very little/nothing in costing the Wings games recently. You all can do all the ridiculous statistical comparisons and create all the pie charts and bar graphs you want until we've solved world hunger, it doesn't mean s**t right now because just about everything b/w BOTH of them is even more or less and BOTH have been playing splendidly lately. A save percentage of one guy .000000012 points higher than the other or a GAA .103533646 lower than the other is not going convince me tp put one goalie over the other in the playoffs.

    ovechkin goal celebration

I think a lot of us are getting our panties in a bunch over this a little too much. Lighten up some. Overall I don't show emotions that much in life but if you don't have some kind of positive emotion or vibe after scoring a goal more often than not, you must not have any kind of central nervous system, at least one that is normal. Ovechkin plays with plenty of emotion and passion and knows when to keep it under wraps and when to let the emotion out. I wish a lot of players showed the passion he shows just about every time I see him on TV.

Perhaps it was a bit of a stretch to say overreaction (I guess I'm guilty then ), and the older you get the more brittle you might become physically, but it's not like this is "The Groin" that would cause him to miss an extended chunk of games. Hasek and Red Wings staff don't seem to be overly alarmed about, Hasek knows his body better than anybody else I would hope, just take him out for a game or so as a pre-caution. Unless somebody starts acting like Wile E. Coyote and drops an Acme anvil on Hasek's back, he'll be back pretty soon.

Should Sergei Fedorov's number be retired in the future?

Quite simply, no. And this doesn't mean I dislike Fedorov. If he played his entire career (or just about his entire career) here, didn't leave under questionable terms (please let us not get into who is to blame in the whole ordeal, I don't care), then I'd say perhaps so.

No lie. Don't forget LGWers, there's a spelling quiz at 5:30pm today, and the ultimate deciding factor is spelling KRONWALL or KRONVALL the right way, and if you screw that up, you will fail and be thrown down your chimney into the fireplace and then have your no-no's chopped off. It's a sports forum people, it's not like we're composing a formal e-mail or a business report. I think there can be a little leeway towards a spelling error here and thee. We need to loosen up a little bit.

Personally I'd prefer steel undentable walls in net. But since that isn't legal, can't really complain about having Hasek and/or Osgood as alternatives, or Hasgood, or Ossek, or um................., uh............. I give up. *shrugs*

    Cleary Re-Signed: 5-Years, $14 M

True on the limited minutes part and also on playing with linemates that don't score/setup that much to an extent, but also consider Cleary and Holmstrom have been injured while Hudler has been healthy all season. If the first two don't miss a fair amount of games, Hudler probably doesn't flirt with top-3 forward scoring.

    Your opinion on Ericsson

It definitely didn't show recently, but the Wings now have some pretty solid defenseive depth to where it should not be a weak point more often than not. Lilja - He's a whipping boy on here but as a 5th or 6th d-man I don't mind him. I take the bad with the good with him and deal with it. He's still a solid PKer and shotblocker. I don't think he makes as many mistakes as he did when he started with the Wings, but unfortunately the mistakes he makes are still of the eye-opener kind. Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing him back as one of the last regular d-men but I read somewhere (Mlive me thinks) that he rejected a two-year offer. So maybe that is a sign of things to come that he might test the free agent market. Lebda - On the fence about him. Great speed obviously which makes up for a lot of errors he would make but I just don't see him making a huge dent to yield top-3 defense minutes consistently. Lately we've seen him struggle but maybe that was because of extra responsibilty or trying to do too much with everybody out. Would not mind him back in a small role but wouldn't kill me to see him leave. Ericsson - Minus a few rookie braincramps, played solid overall, and I think we've seen he can shoot the puck with some good zip. He'll come into his own in the NHL soon. Whether that is next year remains to be seen. If it was a competition between Meech and him, his chances hurt a little bit as Meech has played fairly solid with the extra time recently. I'd definitely like to see him up more, but if most of the d-core stays the same next season, he would best serve in Grand Rapids with the most playing time. Meech - Played well with the extra time as stated. A toss-up between him and Ericsson for the 7th defensive spot. Quincey - Don't know if it's worth the risk or not to lose him to waivers. Very solid in playoff action last year, but I think he took a step back with limited playing time this year behind Meech and Ericcson. Neutral on him.

    Pavel Datsyuk for the Selke

Nobody is saying that. I just think it is a case for some hardcore Datsyuk fans to accept that not everybody treats him similar to a demi-god. And yes, I like Datsyuk.

    I want McCarty!

I know what I am going to post is going to ruin the party probably, and I definitely for nostalgic purposes to an extent think it is going to be cool to see McCarty back and I definitely like him, but I'm honestly not getting my hopes up with me. We've all seen the player he once was, and I hope he can re-discover that mode, but let's be honest. Some time out of the league, was battling personal problems, and it's not like he was ever a bona-fide superstar. Hopefully I will be proven wrong though by him.

    KronVall article

Kronwall or Kronvall, I couldn't really care less about which name is more "appropriate". Doesn't change the fact that he's a solid d-man and a solid person off the ice (or so I am assuming). Some people have their anal-attentiveness caps on in this thread it seems.

    Cleary Re-Signed: 5-Years, $14 M

This makes SouthernWingsFan a happy camper and increases the chances of me perhaps purchasing a Cleary jersey sometime in the not-so-distant future. Wish it could have been for about just $2M - $2.25M million but what can ya do, Cleary deserved a significant raise. I'm not sure if the $2M number is unrealistic or not with the current Wings salary structure and what other GMs might have asked.

    Around The Horn

Two things that should be obvious to everybody on here and we should all just get over... (1) ESPN doesn't pay that much attention to hockey (this doesn't mean that they are the anti-TV network or Satan's second child despite what some warped opinions in here might want you to believe) (2) Hockey will never, ever come close to popularity towards the general public compared to baseball, football, or basketball. At least not anytime soon. Sports analysts saying "negative" things about the sport won't have any further signifcant negative effect on this. I personally really don't care if it is not "popular" to the masses anymore. I like it, the sport isn't going away anytime soon, that's more that enough for me to be satisfied and happy. I wish people could just accept these two things, quit complaining about the obvious, and just be happy they like the sport and just enjoy watching it.
