Not to ruin on the parade, but there is still time to make a run, provided they have some help as well. Remember when Colorado just came out of nowhere last year, only lost maybe twice or three times and just missed going into the playoffs by 1 or 2 points? Different teams obviously, but while the odds are against them, it isn't impossible for Toronto to make it.

No lie. I know it is a catch-22 what I am about to say, but if you want to address reducing equipment size, fine. But it is getting beyond the point of beating this subject to death with a 2 x 4. I know it's an OMG WE HATE THE DUCKS and OMG WE HATE GIGUERE, THEY STINK bias thread, but if his pads were "illegal", whoever is in charge would have handled this situation a long time ago and Giguere would have had to comply with rules much earlier.

That's disgusting and sounds like it would hurt a lot. -
Lidstrom No Longer a Lock for the Norris?

It personally matters very little to me if Lidstrom doesn't win the Norris this year. Would I like to see it happen? Without question. Even if he doesn't win it, I already know he's the best defenseman in the league, and my thought is more than enough for me, I don't need a trophy to confirm it. And I'd rather win a much more important TEAM TROPHY. Sidenote: It never fails to amuse me how the mention of ESPN gets so many people all up in a tirade. Quite funny as always. -
I have barely read any responses in this thread so I apologize for repeating any previous points. I'd love to see the McCarty of old play to both help the Wings and for nostalgic purposes, but I'm not holding my breath. I just think he is a long ways from NHL game shape still, although this is one idiot's opinion far south of Michigan. Others would probably know much better than me if he's getting to that stage in Grand Rapids. Nevertheless, a fairly harmless signing I think. Minimal amount spent, I don't expect McCarty to impact the scoresheet all that much, and I think it'll create some friendly competition for playing time with Drake and Downey as they all seem to play similar styles.

As pointed out already, I don't want to pick my poison, a la Edmonton series recently. They were supposed to be a slam dunk win for the Wings since they played a "similar" style. Well, they reverted to trapping, and look what happened... Every series and every opponent will be dangerous in one form or another. I don't care who the opponent is, if the Wings don't play around the top of their game, winning will be much harder for them.

Definitely isn't nothing new, but I call him Human Bowling Ball when he does that. Flying Snow Angel of Death is pretty funny though.

For what the Wings were supposed to be given up from what everybody has been reading, I'm glad they didn't get Fedorov. It has very little to do with Fedorov himself and more to do with not wanting to give up Flipper and a high draft pick. Maybe Filppula may pan out in Detroit for another 5-6 seasons at least, maybe not. But I think he could be a consistent 20-goal scorer in this league and be a good 2nd liner. Hopefully for Detroit for a good while. I think everybody has moved on that Fedorov wasn't traded to the Wings.

None of them looked that bad this evening.

Hip hip hooray for secondary scoring. Hip hip hooray for Hasek making solid stops. Hip hip horray for Lilja playing temporary goalie for a few seconds. And hopefully you didn't yell out hip hip hooray as like I typed it, cause that is kinda dorky.

Again, how is he being hypocritical? He got what was coming to him when he hit Lidstrom, and in all likelihood Laperriere was expecting it. Johnson hit a star player of the Avs, Laperriere was doing his job holding Johnson accountable. Laperriere plays a hard physical game. I seriosuly do not understand why people are acting like drama queens trying to find something wrong about this and making this a big bruhaha. There is no hypocrisy. The only reason why people are moaning over this is because OMG LAPERRIERE HIT LIDSTROM! LAPERRIERE BAD! Which I perfectly understand and get, but a lot of people are reaching a bit too much in the cookie jar to find something terribly wrong about Lappy outside of the Lidstrom scenario. There's nothing to reach into.

I'm failing to see the contradicting statements from him as well. Whether on not we think the hit on Lidstrom was dirty or not is entirely subjective, and we can debate about that until we are blue in the face and have drank all the beer in the country or Ireland. Laperrier would be foolish to think nobody would be coming after him after that to hold him accountable, which Downey did soon thereafter. I didn't watch the Kings-Avs game last night and any incidents, but his statement is pretty much on par with what was coming to him in the Red Wings-Avs game early last week. Other than saying OMG IT'S IAN LAPERRIER HE HIT LIDSTROM....LAPERIERE BAD! I don't see anything wrong with Laperriere's comments or actions at least from reading them or why people should make a big fuss over this or over Laperriere.

I think you're getting a little carried away here... I think a big reason the team did well w/o Zetterberg tempoararily in the lineup is that he was the only one, or one of the very few, to miss playing time during his absence. When your top 4-dman are out, that's just hard. It isn't a cop-out and I'm trying not to use it as an excuse, but it's just a hard fact/tough pill to swallow. Especially when 2 of those defenseman have been the best in the league this year, at least from the standpoint of generating offense/points. I think this goes to show not just how important Lidstrom is to the team, but Rafalski as well.

Back-alley baseball!

If that's the case then, that referee is going to have a tough time calling the playoffs then I think (I'm assuming refs are judged throughout the season on performance and they dwindle down selections for the postseason)
-
Were they upset at Lidstrom's recent "no-goal" against Anaheim as well? What does spending money on tickets to games have to do with anything? I might agree with you if it was about the 93rd thread ripping Holland or Lilja or Samuelsson or whomever else, but when it is something when something like this that is clearly obvious that it should have been reviewable immediately after it happened just baffles my mind. There is not a whole lot to keep in perspective in terms of this play. It should have been discussed and overturned right after it happened.
-
The nets are there for a reason, I certainly think they still should be up like that, even after last night's screw-up by the referees. Better safe than sorry for the fans. Just the mere fact or rule that that "goal" wasn't reveiwable is utter b.s.

I'm not one to "pick our poision". Remember when, generally speaking, we were thrilled to face Edmonton in the first round a few seasons ago? Somebody who played a "similar" wide-open game? Well, they decided to trap the Wings to death and succeeded, when they weren't supposed to be able to play that kinda game. It really doesn't matter who the Wings play in the playoffs I think. They better take whoever the opponent is very seriously and bring their best game, every game. No series is going to be a walk in the park.
