To mimic a quote similar to what the Superfans said from the Old Saturday Night Live days... The Red Wings will beat the Buffalo Sabres next game 65-0, however Zetterberg will be held to under 35 goals and Chris Osgood (or Dominik Hasek) will only make 3 saves. Just trying to keep with the theme of the thread here.

That Stuart sure wasn't physical tonight. Yes, that is sarcasm on my part.
-
Referees make bad calls against every team. The blown call tonight stinks, yes, but to think that referees have a personal vendetta against just against Detroit is going a bit too far there.
-
My whole take on this thing...and I haven't read any responses prior to my post so I apologize in advance for rehashing other poster's points... Referees are far from perfect. I have officiated games for intramural college leagues in basketball and soccer, far less talented than professional hockey, and it is still difficult. It's a tough gig so I can sympathize with them, and I can understand if they didn't "see" the puck hit the net. I don't think there is a personal vendetta for refs or anybody else to intentionally get the Red Wings negatively. Yes, there still should be protective netting in spite of this blown call. I would think the exact same thing if the Red Wings scored a PP goal in the same situation. I'd be happy with the goal obviously but it still would be an extremely lucky break for the Wings. So I shouldn't be accused of homerism in this scenario. If it is a "rule" where situations like this are "unreviewable" this season, okay. It needs to be addressed though, because where it seems when you can have a toenail in the crease, or Holmstrom "interfering" with Giguere while he's not in the crease, that is reviewable, but this situation this evening isn't? I know Holmstrom is a marked man to an extent and I'm all for reviewing goals to make sure the calls are accurate, but it is total b.s. that this puck hitting the net isn't reviewable. And again, I would say the same thing if the Wings scored a PP goal in that situation, saying they were lucky to get away with one. If the referees didn't see the puck, fine. I can live with that. I may be playing armchair referee here, but when the puck goes way in the air, and it doesn't hit the glass/boards or anything, wouldn't you think or assume that is in the nettting/crowd or out of play? Puck on glass/boards yields to noise that we can hear more often than not. Puck on net leads to noise we cannot hear more often than not. Hopefully an issue like this is address, because it cost the Wings at least a point in the standings in all likelihood.

What happened, Holland? Cap space for what?
SouthernWingsFan replied to NHLrules?'s topic in General
Of course not, but again, being a GM of an ACTUAL sports franchise is much harder than playing one in a video game where your team goes 82-0 and 16-0. And to go further with ARice's post, it is especially easier to criticize players or management or say "I could do that" AFTER SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED when it is much easier to sit in your Lazy Boy and play overly anal armchair GM. A bit harder to make decisions in the heat of the moment during a game or considering a myriad of options in a trade, like who should be given up, will the other player(s) fit in with the team/be happy working there, should I give up draft picks or minor leaguers, etc. etc. etc. -

Bulls**t. If being a general manager were based just on credentials of mastering a video game, we'd all be multi-millonaires. Being a general manager of a business or sports franchies in 3-d/non-fantasy land requires much more than that. Many of us on here will not be a general manager of a business or sports franchise in our lifetime. -
Matt, right now I am having site troubles. Sometimes I am getting the error/text quoted after I make a post or try to go to a link in the forum. My posts that I have made though go in like normal. I have to hit the Internet Browser refresh button to get the forums to come back up. There is no consistency in how many times I have to refresh. Sometimes just once or twice, sometimes roughly 8-10 times.

I didn't read everything in-depth but I really enjoyed what I did read. And I think way too many of us are spoiled and take for granted that even though Detroit has "only" won 3 Cups in 15 straight playoff seasons, that is 3 more Cups than a lot of other teams. This is one of the better sports franchises out there in any professional league in the country and I am glad to be a big fan of it.

We're going 16-0 in the playoffs and we're going to win every game by 10 touchdowns!

What happened, Holland? Cap space for what?

The general theory is pretty easy to identify obviously. My 4-year old nephew, if he watched the Red Wings enough times, could identify that the Wings could always use a dosage of size or secondary scoring. Holland knows this. Yzerman knows this. Clinton and Obama know this. The bum down in Colombia knows this. It's when trying to put that general theory into action is where a lot of people get stupid. Like a lot of other things, it is a lot easier said than done. And it is definitely a lot harder to work trades out in real life as opposed to doing it on NHL 08 on your XBox or PlayStation. -
Yeah I know. Regardless of how much money you make/who you are in most instances it sucks to have your car stolen, but I took too much idiot fuel last night and it took me a while to register that he basically was almost as big of an idiot as I was last night.

Thanks, I could use some good early morning music. It is a little bit funny to a degree actually now that I think of it. Lightening up some regarding this... I'm living on Earth just like everybody else last time I checked.

Having had one of my cars broken into before back in high school and having my wallet recently stolen not too long ago, I do not find this funny. And it is pretty disturbing to see some people in here think it is funny.

So Stuart isn't going to be physical, something we can accurately predict after seeing him play ZERO games with the Red Wings so far? Just what exactly is this being based on? Since we are just randomly predicting the future without any normal logic or thought whatseover, maybe I should be one of those fortune teller people predicting the future then. I could predict that I'd actually go out on a date with Jessica Biel. Unfortunately I didn't use any logic with that prediction either, much like the creation of this thread being well-thought out either.

Again, ESPN stopped putting plenty of focus on hockey a long time ago. Why do you sound shocked? Why even worry about it? It's in the past, let's move on. Who cares about what ESPN 'should' be doing according to hockey fans? They aren't the most popular sports network to a majority of the country by mistake.

Would have loved to have Hossa but not at the price the Penguins are going to pay years from now when they got him, especially when it's slim to none I think that Hossa returns to the Penguins after the offseason. Again, I'm no general manager of a sports franchise or business and I'm definitely not the sharpest nail in the toolbox, but trades in real life are a lot harder to pull off than trades on your PlayStation. Maybe the franchise Holland was negotiating with didn't like what he was offering. Maybe Holland wasn't willing to offer more, also considering the future. I know we want a winner and want to win the big prize every year but you got to think long-term as well, or so I assume. Maybe some players didn't want to go to the Red Wings. Maybe somebody was offering Holland chump change in exchange for something bigger. Again would I have liked to get Hossa or a decent 2nd liner at first glance? Of course. But there are a myriad of things to consider I think why some deals should, or should not work out. There's a reason Holland is a general manager of a sports franchise, and none of us are.

Not anytime in the immediate future.

Where, anywhere in this thread have I been on Lilja's "business"? Show me and quote me on it. Oh wait, that's right, I was never on Lilja's "business" in this thread. Next time don't put words in my mouth to make yourself sound like an idiot. Thank you.

Should Ericsson Be a starter over Lilja/Lebda?
SouthernWingsFan replied to wingsfan_54's topic in General
Because overall Meech has looked better than Ericsson in these recent games. -
I don't know why this would be a shock to anybody on here. ESPN isn't going to give hockey prime time dedication. Why is this so difficult to understand and to live with? Everybody need to just let it go and let them do their own thing.
-
It's his opinion, why even worry about him then?
