    Could Detroit trade Z?

While technically there is always a chance, REALISTICALLY I'm going to say there's not a snowball's chance in hell this would ever happen, at least anytime in the near future.

    Why don't we have one

Hell I'd make more trips to JLA if they bought in cheerleaders, and they all dedicated a few minutes to give me giant bear hugs. *Has no shame*
  3. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...cock/index.html Deal would like to get done sometime in the spring. I read a similar article on Detroit News Online as well this morning which quoted Babcock saying he doesn't want to go anywhere anytime soon more/less.

    Osgood interviews Legace

QFT. I know part of being a fan is disliking the enemy or whatever else during a game or a playoff series, but to just flat out hate Legace is pretty silly and going a bit off the deep end. Legace may go off the deep end sometimes as well with what he has said (i.e. I want to hang myself after the Edmonton series or some trash talk here and there) but there's no point letting that get you ticked off in the long run. In the grand scheme of things he's probably a down to earth good guy like everybody else. I wish him all the best in St. Louis or wherever he might play after that.

Should the NHL drop the All Star Game

The whining/homerism comments aside, I'm pretty much in agreement here. As stated I wouldn't mind them tweaking a few things with the All-Star game, but to completely drop it would just be ridiculous. It's an entertainment thing. It's a day for the fans, both the die-hards and the casuals, to see some of the better players (I know I know a lot of the "best players" this year aren't playing) all at the same time. Right now though, like the NBA All-Star game where the game itself is pretty meaningless in terms of standings/results, there's nothing just so terrible about it that I'd get rid of the game completely. EDIT: Terry Frei gives some decent suggestions I think, esp. the last two. Possibly hold it outdoors every few years or soon rotate it between O-6 arenas. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/allstar2008/...&id=3212761

Should the NHL drop the All Star Game

It's definitely worth a shot, but like in baseball I think, home-ice or home-field advantage doesn't significantly have that huge of a difference, generally speaking. Unless it's a game 7 of course. I would think a game 7 goes a longer way for the home team in a hockey game vs. a baseball game, but this is just one idiot's opinion.

    "Queens" Chase Giguere!

And my point is, it's not just his "equipment" that makes the stop, it may serve as a good aid but to say he is just flat out terrible is a big overexaggeration.

No Respect For Wings? TSN's First Half Review

I could really care less one way or the other if the Wings are given respect or no respect at all by media outlets. It's not worth me wasting my time paying too much attention to media outlets in super-duper detail and getting my underwear in bunches being pissed off at them if they don't pay that much attention to the Wings or whatever, because it doesn't change squat on the ice on what the Wings have/haven't done. I know the Wings are good, I respect them, I don't need to go out on a marketing campaign broadcasting how great they are all the time towards people. It's not worth my time/effort, and it's not worth getting heartburn over if other people aren't kissing their butts all the time either. I cannot control what they say or not say, and if I ever ranted and moaned over such things, it will not help or change anything at all and their opinions will not change from my ranting. I enjoy them and know they are good, that's enough for me to be satisfied with.

    "Queens" Chase Giguere!

I think he was being sarcastic. And I'm sorry, make fun of his "equipment" all you want, but he still has to make the saves, and he wasn't a recent Conn Smythe MVP a few years ago by mistake. By no means am I saying Giguere is one of the best goalies all time or anything like that, but to say that he's garbage is pretty ignorant.

    Tomas Kopecky

He definitely did have his best game of the season last night I think, but I wouldn't expect him to get his minutes increased that much, especially when the wingers get completely healthy. I was never really down on him at all this season, but if he can maintain the aggressive play that he displayed last night, it could give some offensive boost to the 3rd or 4th line.

Red Wings Take Beating, Walk Away With Win

No, the Wings didn't just flat out dominate Anaheim in last night's game. However, I believe that Detroit played their game better than Anaheim's style for good portions of the match (maybe a 60/40 or 65/35 percentage comparison for rough estimate, with Detroit being 60/65). Anaheim has their way of winning games, and it works FOR THEM. Detroit has their way of winning games, and it works FOR THEM. The two styles are different more often than not. I seriously do not want Detroit to revert to Anaheim's system of play too much. Not because of the perceptions (whether they are right or wrong) that Detroit is "classy" or Anaheim is "dirty", again it's just the styles of play both teams use to win are different and they both work in their own ways. I wouldn't expect Anaheim to try to significantly change their style to become more "skill-dominant" like Detroit if what they use to win works more often than not. Anaheim will always be the more bigger and probably more physical team when these two teams meet. I'm sorry though, even though Anaheim won the last playoff matchup, I don't think they just beat the Red Wings to a bloody pulp in the physical game. Sure they probably threw more checks and hits, but it's not like the Wings were just cowering away or just magically stop grinding or working. We learned last playoffs that they will always skate and work hard regardless of how physical the other team might be against them, and I doubt that's going to change this upcoming postseason. Would I like the Wings to be even more grittier and a little more physical? Sure, but not at the expense to where it signifcantly changes how they comfortably play and know how to win. If these two teams meet in the playoffs, I'd definitely be concerned of Anaheim's physical game, but on the flip side, it'd be hard not to convince me that the Ducks would not be worried about the overall skill and playmaking level of the Red Wings and think they could just pummel Detroit to oblivion and expect to easily get away with it or easily win. It'll probably be another tight series. And, whether some like to admit it or not, flukey bounces and deflections, broken sticks, flubbed passes, etc. have an impact on a game regardless of what teams are out there and what styles they might play. And sometimes the impacts are much bigger than a team perhaps being "physical" throughout an entire game (see broken stick last night, Lilja's backfired pass in game 5 playoffs, etc.).

    VIDEO: Fight Night in Anaheim

It's gone a wee bit over the top on both ends I think. I will try to appease both sides of the argument here to please as many people possible and not have everybody yell, "YOUR ARE ONE STUPID IDIOT SOUTHERNWINGSFAN!" (which is actually true sometimes ), so here goes... I know Pronger is the equivalent of the anti-christ in here for just about every member, but to say he was intentionally trying to gouge Cleary's eyes just shows how much people hate him in here and will be so overly expressive and descriptive in displayed their hatred of him. I highly doubt Pronger was intentionally trying to do this. I know he's "taller" then most players, but at the same time to appease the other side, he's got to take responsibility of this advantage (or disadvantage, depending on how you look at it as well). I probably shouldn't be shocked, but it's pretty silly how much attention the fight got because OMG IT'S CHRIS PRONGER! Look, I'm far from his biggest fan, but people just pay way too much attention around here I think, more than necessary, and the displays and posts directed toward disliking him are just way off the deep end sometimes. I hate saying this because it gives the perception that I am sticking up for the guy, but I really wish some people in here could just let it go with the Pronger talk (even though it will never happen), I hate to sound like a whiney brat but it's just over the top and too much sometimes.

Wings At The All Star Break..

No real point in worry about whether something like this might happen, as we don't know if/when the next Wings snag for a few games might be. It's just impossbile to predict such a thing accurately. Though I think we can all clearly remember them coasting into the 2002 playoffs and getting a severe early wake up call. Again though, every year/every game/every team is different, we have no clue what will happen 2 weeks from now or 2 1/2 months from now when the playoffs are close to starting.

    wings on nbc

Can't go wrong with hockey on the most basic of cable. While we'd all definitely like more games to be on NBC, remember when the NHL had a contract with ABC back in the ESPN broadcast days? ABC didn't start having broadcasts of games until late January or early Februrary as well, so there's really no significant difference I think if you compare the amount of games that have been or will be shown between the two networks. And I could really care less who annouces the games, or if people or overly emotional yelling SCOOOORE or whatever else. I'm all about just watching the game. I could care less what station it's on in the grand scheme of things as long as it is on somewhere. Commentary and broadcasters are secondary to me.

    1/23 GDT: Red Wings 2, Anaheim 1

Very exciting game for both teams. This could easily be a preview of the WC finals if both teams play like they did yesterday evening. Much kudos to Kopecky as I think he played his best game of the season last night. I won't expect him to get top minutes anytime soon esp. when everybody is healthy again soon, but he played aggressive the entire game. Beautiful feed back to Flipper there for the goal. Defense was solid overall. And, hopefully expected by many in here now, the Wings didn't cower to physical play of the opposing team. Anaheim will always be the more physical team, but the Wings will never back down and will always continue to work hard. Anaheim wins games their way, and Detroit wins in a different but effective style as well. And my man love () for Hasek is seriously on the rise, as well as Osgood for the game before.

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Krownall and 1st pic for Sundin? Maybe Sundin a few years ago, but definitely not now IMO. And I will assume (and hope) that people are joking suggesting giving people like Kopecky or Meech up to acquire Sundin. Not that I am completely closed to trading either of them or other players to make the Wings better, but there's not a snowball's chance in hell, in my opinion, that those such players would get Sundin.

nhl on versus for 3 more years

For the people that hate VS with a passion, what are the better alternatives then if you don't like it? VS is definitely better than no network contract at all, and most of us should be humbled that most of us are able to get Versus and/or NHL Center Ice to get games. Some people only get Versus. Some can't even get that and are delegated to just NHL Radio or ESPN 360 or something. AGAIN, be thankful we get something at least.

    All-Star Game Roster Update

I haven't read much posts in this thread but just saw that Rafalski actually did get invited. That kinda takes the thunder away from my post but I'll go on anyways... Before the Rafalski annoucement happened and we thought it was a shaft job, I certainly could understand the discontent towards Niedermeyer getting in, not b/c he is a Duck and I know Ducks usually = Devil in here, but that he hasn't played much this season yet. For better or worse, it's just an entertainment game where if players are at least halfway decent in their careers (which Niedermeyer and Rafalski definitely qualify, along with many other players) and are recognizable, that betters their chances. It's not just this way in the NHL, but for the MLB and NBA games, as well as the NFL Pro Bowl. A guy could be hitting just .245 with only 5 home runs but if he's a well-known slugger who's been to the all-star game before, he'll probably be back, even if he's struggling some the current year. It may not be fair or right, but it's normal selection. It's nothing to get too riled up over though as the game doesn't mean anything in the NHL standings or to the Wings.
