    Has Osgoods luck run out?

Not even close. Every team in every sport in every league has bad stretches of games. This isn't an inexperience team not knowing how to deal with some adversity. Osgood and the team will be fine. The team won't panic, we shouldn't panic then.

Best relationship in 25 years? This makes it sound like Hasek has been having way too much fun and has been getting divorced too much. You need to settle down Hasek!!! Seriously, neat little article. :goalie2: Hasek + :goalie1: Osgood = An awesome goaltending tandem for Detroit

Bowman was interested in the job with Leafs

Because people's minds change about work all the time, I don't care what the career or profession is. I definitely commend people for staying at the same job or company for many and many years, but that's totally unrealistic in today's society, even in the sports world. Very rarely do you find athletes or staff members in a sports organization stay in the same place for a majority or their entire career. That's not bad, that's not good, it's just the way the work world is for a lot of people today. Life isn't all about playing or working for the Red Wings your entire life for many people whether we like it or not.

    Is Bab's a little shook?

I know you're just yanking his chain, but surely you cannot be serious in your other post where Downey = win all the time. As much as I like the guy, the itching to see him play gets a little bit ridiculous on here sometimes despite the team winning more often than not. And while I doubt you were seriously implying this, but to think he's directly responsible or the main contributor for a majority of the Wings' wins is absolutely silly.

    Aaron Downey

I hate to disappoint many people, but Samuelsson is not going to sit. He's one of the few right-handed wingers on the team that has somewhat of a scoring touch. That's why he plays on the point of a power play. I'd be all for him and Chelios splitting time on the PP at that position, but outside of those two, there's nobody left on the point (other than Lebda, but he's lefty). Samuelsson is not my favorite player but he is not costing this team games by himself, is far from a liablity, and not costing the Winsgs much at $1.2 million. Everyody's expectations of him are way too high. Maltby isn't going to sit because of his importance on the penalty kill, even thouh the Wings have a fair amount of people doing it. Kopecky probably won't unless he completely falls in the s**ter because he is young and has the most potential for development in the long term. He needs all the games in that he can get so Wings brass can see if he can possiblly develop into more of a grinder with some scoring touch, or just fall off the map so the two can go their separate ways at some point in time. I hate to disappoint people though, that time is not anytime soon. Drake might get rested for back-to-back games but come on, does Downey provide that much more than Drake to where he'll make that much more of a siginifcant difference? Look, I like Downey, but there is a reason he might only play sparingly when the team is healthy. It's because he has very little offensive upside and just provides physical play on a 4th line. He's not going to kill penalties or play special teams, while the others above probably will to some degree. Before I get yelled at, Maltby and Drake don't have that much upside offensively either, but it's not realistic to think that Downey would be that much better than them at assisting or putting the puck in the net. Again, I like Downey, but the drooling over him fighting every so often and clamoring for him to get in the lineup is a little bit ridiculous sometimes. A 2-game losing streak (one being a shootout loss, the other a 1-goal affair) for a team that has been kicking tail most of the season does not constitute just dramatically changing the lineups around. People just want to see Downey in the lineup b/c they've lost two straight, and Downey for the most part is a fan favorite. The roster will be fine and the team will be fine with everybody healthy. EDIT: And before I get grilled for wanting to see a "soft pansied team", this team was from pansies last playoffs overall, even without Downey. I'm all for grit/toughness/hustle, but it's not like the Wings were consistently pushed around the entire playoffs (and I don't think they were really that intimated/outhit in the Ducks series), and the same has held true this season for the most part as well.

Sat. Hotstove: Rob Blake to the Wings?

No doubt about it, but it's just a slim chance I think as you and I seem to agree on. You could say the same about picking up trades for players who might stay for 4-5 years I know, but I just don't like the play for one team for just 2 months deal initially. It's silly I know, but I just can't shake that thought.

WE'RE SO DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, that was extreme overreacting sarcasm there.

Sat. Hotstove: Rob Blake to the Wings?

I just don't like the rent-a-player scenario. Now before I get jumped on b/c that what Todd Bertuzzi was, Holland did offer him a contract to stay if I wasn't mistaken, but Anaheim offered him a better one. Did Atlanta offer Tkachuk a contract after his brief stay with them, or was it all but determined he was, or wanted to, go back to St. Louis? I know it worked when Doug Weight went of St. Louis to Carolina who won the Cup and back to St. Louis, but it just seems more like a 1-to-a-million shot scenarios, that's why I'm normally against it. Not trying to knock Rob Blake whatsoever, but if it's all but a given he wants to return to the Kings after that, then I'm initially against doing such a trade.

Bowman was interested in the job with Leafs

Well it's been kinda hard to argue tinkering with the lineup that much, considering how well the Wings have played overall this season so far and are leaps and bounds above just about everybody else in the standings....
  13. SouthernWingsFan

Bowman was interested in the job with Leafs

Because it's his personal/professional life and he was looking for something new and a challenge possible. Life isn't all about sticking within the Red Wings organziation, or any job at any organization or company, for your entire life. I commend people who show such loyalty, but it rarely happens in life today. It's neither good or bad, it's just a major part of being in work today.

    Is Ozzie a HOFer?

Again, it is not just about statistics. Perception, whether you like it or not, matters as well. This is nothing new. Again, It doesn't matter what stats and analysis and comparisons you give. You can give me all the comparisons until everybody at LGW finishes all the liquor in the universe in 15 years and it won't matter, because as much as I like Osgood and I'd like for him to get in and think that he's done well in his career, perception to me is that he might not make it. It might not make sense. And you know what? I don't care. I already know how good Osgood is and he doesn't need to get into the Hall of Fame to change my already ositive opinion of him and his play to be even more positive.
  15. SouthernWingsFan

    Kudos to Holland

Ok so that statement is inaccurate then, but saying that Holland is one of the best current-day GMs in the league in managing under a salary cap is accurate.
  16. SouthernWingsFan

    Kudos to Holland

I like that last sentence. As much as he has gotten dogged in here for not consistently signing "toughness" or a "tough guy" or that he shouldn't be given at least some credit for contributing to low draft picks working out in recent years (maybe not actually going out to get them but keeping them with the Red Wings long term), and while I definitely respect the opinions of plenty fans in here, when you have major NHL sources and outlets saying he's one of the best present-day GMs out there, I'm taking the opinions of those sources over the people in here on this one.

    Is Ozzie a HOFer?

While I wouldn't say it's pointless to have a point in here (REDUNDANCY!!!!!! ), it is a little bit silly to think he might not yet get into hit. He's still playing, he still has the chance to get in, so he's "NOT YET" in. Sorry, that was the smart-a** in me. Will Osgood have the numbers and stats to get in. There's a good chance (but not yet ), but I don't care what statistical analysis people throw at me, perception to me says that Osgood doesn't equal being in the Hall of Fame. Yes it might not be fair, but just like 3-star selections, MVP selections, All-Star selections, award givings, IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT STATS. Public perception plays a major role as well, whether we might like it or not. And yes, I like Osgood, so nobody better accuse me of not liking him or having negative bias towards him. I think it'd be cool if he got in. I just don't see it happening though. But with that being said, it really doesn't matter to me if he doesn't make it. I know he's been a very solid and capable goalie for pretty much his entire career, and that's more than enough for me. I don't feel the need to "sell" him to be in the Hall of Fame to justify how good he is.

    McCarty meets with Red Wings

I haven't really read responses in this thread in depth, so I apologize if I'm re-iterating previous points... The fan in me would love to see McCarty back in a Wings uniform, and I think it's great that he is trying to resuming making a living doing something he loves, even though he knows it will probably end in a few years... That being said though I think he has aways to go before having a chance to sniff the Wings lineup full time (again I haven't read responses in this thread or much detail in the situation so somebody please correct me if I am wrong or if he's ahead of any "progress"). It'll take him a while to get back in game shape. Would I love to see him work his way back up though to the NHL and be proved wrong? Without question. McCarty

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

Unless one of the goalies is just complete is in the s**tter with his play just before the playoffs start for a long stretch of games, it doesn't matter who plays in the playoffs to me, based off this season and past history. Play one of them the whole way, do a playoff tandem, I don't care. Hasek proved he still had it last year doing his part to help the Wings go deep in the playoffs and he has plenty of past credentials to show he still has it and is currently around the top of his game it looks like. Osgood has proved this year that this has been his best one so far without question and he has plenty of past credentials to show that he can be a #1 goalie without much difficulty. One shaky game tonight (and that's even questionable due to bad defense and nutty bounces of the puck all game) doesn't change that whatsoever. They both have a wealth of experience and have what it takes mentally. Again, it doesn't matter to me. I like Hasek. I like Osgood. I don't have any personal preference or special liking towards one over the other. It doesn't matter what kind of statistical charts or 46 page essays any extreme fan throws at me to prove their case for either goaltender. I don't care, and while I certainly think it's cool and can appreciate that some can be big fans of a specific athlete, flooding my brain with stats and bias with these two isn't going to make me care. Why? Because I still know that both goalies are still extremely solid and capable (and also see 2nd and 3rd blurbs above), and we're lucky to have BOTH of them in spite of everybody's promotional pitches. I could care less about the pitches people make. It can seriously really be that simple even if you are a huge fan of one of the goalies. It still baffles me to this day why some have to make it so difficult in here bringing one goalie down to bring the other one up, or even just slight either of the goalies at all when they cannot realistically play much better right now. Quit slighting either goalie and understand that the Wings current situation in net, especially with both of them playing pretty damned well right now, is a damned good situation to have. Osgood :goalie1: + Hasek :goalie2: = VERY GOOD THINGS for the Detroit Red Wings

Osgood Named to West All-Star Team

No lie, and it's an absolutely meaningless games in terms of NHL standings. Why can't people just be happy that he's in when he wasn't even on a ballot to start a season? That says a lot to me. Seriously people... (sorry, I didn't read responses in this thread other than this page, sorry if that came out attacking people) Much congrats to him, he earned it and certainly deserved it, and this rough outing tonight does not take away from him deserving to be in there one bit.

1/10 GDT: Wild 6, Red Wings 5 (SO)

I'll second that. Hasek probably could really give a hoot who he's playing and I highly doubt he's out for "revenge" since it's his former team. Not really familiar with any drama that might have happeend between him and Spezza a few years ago though. Anyhoo, with how nutty this game was, I'll take a point even though it was disappointing for them to tie it back up at 5-5. Wings are still trucking along pretty good.

Not the least little bit. I put whatever personal distaste for unpopular players aside if they played for the team I root for. It's about the logo in the front, not the name on the back. Calm down there.
