    Backup goalie blues (SI.com)

Only to the fans because they talk about those two things. Way. Too. Damned. Much. and overanalyze Every. Single. Little. Thing. They. Do. to the point to where it makes me want to take a heated iron and continuously press it on my face until the skin almost completely comes off. Because honestly, that's probably more bearable than reading and trying to take in some of the most ridiculous crap I hear about both of the current Red Wings goalies, or all Red Wings goalies, or just goaltending overall. I don't pay much attention to Lions football but if fans would just not even talk about Red Wings goaltenders, or even goaltending in general, they'd live at least 5-10 years longer. I know I definitely have a lot less ulcers avoiding tending talk for the most part. Yeah I know, that takes the fun out of things, but what can I say, I'm a boring dull dud. *shrugs*

    Who do we fear

Who the hell knows how teams will be once the playoffs start in April, but in all likelihood my opinion will be of the same of any team with a hot goaltender. Generally speaking, the difference between the #1 and #8 seed (at least in recent seasons) has not been all that great. No series is a guaranteed 4-game sweep or easy 4-1 series win. That being said though, the Red Wings have obviously stood out in a positive way lately. Much like last year, I hope we've come to know them as not backing down or cowering from physical play like perhaps they have done in recent past. They aren't going to be the most physical team out there again in all likelihood, but if they have secondary scoring from 2nd/3rd liners in Samuelsson, Flipper, Hudler, Franzen etc. in the season that matters most, they'll have just enough of everything I think. They definitely have the offense/special teams to compete, a defense that should be able to keep up as long as you don't have too many speedy skaters on one team, confident goaltending in either Hasek and/or Osgood, and a willingness to not necessarily dominate physical, but to definitely take the punishment and even dish out some hits here/there. At least now I think, the Wings have one of the better all-around teams that can contend for a Cup. If they can just pepper away shooting at other teams and keep the opposing goalie on edge, good things could happen.

The difference between DET and CBJ Announcers

Annoucers of a home team are going to show some bias and homerism. This should not be a shock to anybody in here. Honestly, I could really give two piles of ratpoo what annoucers of any teams say about the Red Wings or anybody else. I know how good the Wings are or if another player or team is good or bad, I don't need to go on a 7-millon dollarr marketing campaign if an annoucer might not be giving a player/team their due or is mispronoucing a player's name or whatever else. Their opinions aren't going to change from my campaign or me ranting or raving. Annoucers being homers, or having special tendencies towards discussions, is not going away anytime soon, so why even bother getting upset with it? I just like to watch the games, commentary/analysis is pretty much secondary to me. If stuff like this bothers people that much, there's a mute button on your remote, or tune into an AM radio broadcast.

    Day to Day Wings Activities

Nothing. Zero. Zip. Zilch. I'm the most dull and boring fan on the face of the earth. I don't do anything special pre or post-game, and I don't do any excessive ranting or raving or yelling at my television during games, sometimes I barely make any peeps. There's only 2 advantages to this. (1) My TV doesn't have any damage. (2) Even though I am dull to watch games with, at least it might be halfway enjoyable because you don't have to deal with any crap of mine.

    Anyone Miss Lang?

I don't think many people on the Wings or Wings fans are missing him right now, given how well the team is doing so far. I was never one to constantly dive into the Lang Is Lazy And He Sucks Fan Club where all you talk about is how Lang is Lazy and He Sucks and nothing else (even though I sound like I'm part of this retarded club ), the ripping on him was so over the top sometimes that it got to be comical, but you could pretty much tell his relationship at least with Coach Babcock seemed to go downhill as the season went on. It was time for the Wings and Robert Lang to part ways this offseason.

    Zetterberg, Holmstrom stay in Detroit

No, he isn't. It's kinda hard to play an 80+ game season without missing a few games here and there, I don't care who you are. I'm no super duper athlete but I try to run at least 3-4 times a week and it wears the hell out of me and it's not uncommon that I am sore.

    Who got tickets?

I didn't get tickets for a Christmas gift, but I recently bought tickets to see the Wings play the Stars in Dallas on Sat. January 5th. Dallas is only about an hour away from where I live by plane roughly, flight prices were managable (under $200), my game ticket was only about $20, so not too expensive of a trip. I think booking that flight, along with past expenses in a Southwest Rapids Rewards program, will yield me a free round trip flight. If that's the case, I'm really going to try to get tickets to a playoff game at Joe Louis Arena for a weekend game.

    2 on 2

I'm going to be biased since I'm a big Wings fan obviously, and I don't watch a whole lot of the NHL outside of the Wings, but E.T. and Teen Wolf gets the nod, though not by a huge landslide. Heatley/Spezza and Lecavalier/St. Louis could easily contend given the scenario of the topic, IMO.

    Samuelsson does not fit in

Who should we trade him for? Have any scenarios or examples? Anybody can say that player ABC or player XYZ should be traded. And you can't just suggest something that can easily be done on NHL 08 on your PlayStation2. Doesn't work that way in real life.

    12/22 GDT: Red Wings 4, Wild 1

From Detroit News Online... Faceoff: 8 tonight, Xcel Energy Center, Minneapolis, Minn. TV/radio: FSN Detroit/WXYT 97.1, 1270 Outlook: The Wings are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, the Wild are 7-3. The Wings defeated the Wild in the only game between them this season. Maybe another entertaining human bowling episode from last game? Might be missing out tonight's game as a friend from college days is in my neck of the woods this weekend on business, so this evening might be catch-up on what we are doing time. Since no central division matchup, I'll go with another Wings kool-aid prediction of 3-2. Gaborik keeps his nutty production up with another goal, and Hasek (assuming he is starting with the goalie rotation) staves off late-game pressure for a clutch win. Gonna go with Lidstrom, Kronwall, and Datsyuk as the scorers. Sorry, not good with the pre-game GDT graphics and stats creation stuff. Big aflac should be back in action for that soon though.

    The Official Bowl Discussion Thread

The Cincy-Southern Miss game was played in Birmingham. I've never been in northern Alabama before but I think that is the only "big" stadium in Birmingham, seats a little over 80,000. Alabama-Birmingham, in Conference USA, plays their football games there and attendance has usually been barren from whenever I have seen games there on TV, even when the school had a stretch a few years ago when they were pretty decent. My alma mater used to play in C-USA and played at UAB twice, both times I saw it on TV and there if there was more than 20,000 or 25,000 people at the game, it was generous. My school plays in the Mountain West now, the same conference as Utah, so I have some familiarity with them. FYI The MWC has a network dedicated to their sports, much like the Big Ten Network, but it's only available in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, and some parts of California. It's not even on satellite for Dish or Direct TV so unless MWC teams have been on the road that an FSN affilate broadcasts or it's on CSTV or Versus, general public wouldn't see them, which is a major reason why you and plenty other people don't know much about Utah or other MWC schools. The market that my school is in can't even pick up the Mtn (the network name for the conference) at all locally on cable, so even they have problems seeing a lot of games which stinks. The network has TV rights first to all MWC home games, so MWC teams have barely been shown on more available stations like ESPN or FSN. Anyways, back to Utah...they have a quarterback who, as a freshman, was going to be damned good in a few years but blew out his ACL during that time. He took a redshirt year and is playing again now, and showing glimpses of his former self, but he's not the same obviously with his knee. They have a damned good kicker/punter who is clutch almost all the time, a solid RB who quietly produces, and a speedy defense. That's Utah in a nutshell.

    Samuelsson does not fit in

He has 13 assists, plenty more then a handful of other players on the team. While assists can certainly come off defelcted shots or rebounds, sometimes assists result from PASSING THE PUCK to other teammates. See above. Look I'm no Samuelsson slappie, he's not my favorite, but some of you are having a good knack for being overly dramatic right now.

    Samuelsson does not fit in

Nah, I like him as well. Because he is better than Jason Williams. Nobody is mentioning the fact that he's Swedish and he's getting special dibs because of that (EDIT: and just because he or anybody is Swedish doesn't automatically mean he's the golden boy on the team, don't know where that came from). You're just putting words in the conversation that aren't really necessary.
