Osgood has been a revelation to Red Wings

Yep, and fair-weathered fans will start acting like dumb a**es again unforutnately the minute he might lose 2 games in a row by 1 goal, 2-1. And I am not looking forward to the day when that happens and people don't think objectively.

    NHL Approves New Schedule Format

My bad, idiotically mis-interpreted your post as possibly wanting to maintain status quo in this instance. It's not going to be modified/changed anymore than what it will be next year though, in my opinion. And it will be fine this way. Sure I'd like the Wings to play Toronto and Montreal even more than once/twice a year, but the NHL is more than the Red Wings (as hard as that may be for some members in here to fathom, it's true), and Columbus Blue Jackets in this case, being the eastern-most teams in the WC probably wanting to play EC teams more. You've got to consider the interests of all the other teams/players. I'm not a big NBA/basketball fan, but I try to tune into the Hornets down here every so often and it's the same deal. They are in the Western Conference in the NBA, but geographically they could easily be in the Eastern Conference. Anyways, this new (or sort of going back to the old/worked) schedule satisfies enough of the majority who are part of all 30 franchises in my opinion, with proper schedule balancing and playing every team at least once. And yes, people in here will still be complaining about this, or any other thing, sometimes just for the sake of complaining unfortunately.

    NHL Approves New Schedule Format

Come on BRTD. No solution, in any facet of life, is going to please everybody 100% (as you've stated), but you can't tell me with a straight face that this new adaption of the schedule is going to be worse than the current and be serious. 26 of 30 voted in favor of the change. I'm sorry, but eight games against a team, I don't care who they are or if they are a rival or not, is just way too much. That being said, I'm content with what the changes will. More WC teams will see the superstars in the East such as Crosby/Ovecheckin etc. etc. etc. and vice versa with EC teams seeing West superstars such as Zetterberg etc.

Osgood in net for Phoenix; Hasek in net for Montreal

Neat. You ride the hot goalie right now while still giving Hasek a few opportunities to get out of his rut. And I hate to disappoint some fans, but Hasek isn't even close to finished. There's still 2/3 of the season left to be playing, things can easily change on a dime where Osgood could start struggling (NO I AM NOT WISHING OR ENCOURAGING THAT TO HAPPEN). While Osgood should definitely be carrying the majority of starts right now, there's still a wealth of games where things could easily change, or for Osgood to continue to do good and for Hasek to get plenty of games to get back in a good streak. No player on the Wings, nor any team is even close to being done this season when we're not even to the New Year yet (assuming somebody doesn't have a season ending injury). Saying otherwise is just stupid and not using any sense. Think people.

    Hudler... over/under?

50 goals for Hudler when only a handful of the better goal scores in the game today struggle to get to 50? Zetterberg and Datsyuk are two of the better forwards in the league and neither of them have clipped 40 yet. I like the kid and think he has plenty potential and am glad he's doing well right now, but let's put down the Red Wings homer goggles right now. This season, I say an under of -27. 23 goals this season is my guess. He definitely has the potential to be a consistent 20-30 goal/season producer in his first full few seasons if he gets more playing time, maybe cracking 30 a few times when he stars to get in his prime or develop more.

    penalty shot

Bad idea to me. You'd have penalty shot chosen nearly everytime IMO and power plays would serve little/no purpose. While I definitely like penalty shots, I also like seeing how power plays work with the passing/appropriate shots when a team does it correctly, and while penalty shots still aren't common, they are a little more frequent now than compared to the old rules. Plus we got the shootouts at the end of the overtime during the regular season... I'd propose more of a scenario of a 2:00 PP no if's/and's/or but's, kinda like if it's a penalty major and you're fortunate enough to get a PP out of it (i.e. no 5:00 major for both players of opposing teams for a scrap). If you score a PP goal, the power-play time still goes on.

    what's up with dat's shot?

His shot 'twas definitely "up" :thumbump: last night! I pray, for the love of god, for people to do the same with both goaltenders we have and end the stupid pointless comparisons and bashing of either of them. If this miracle actually ever happens, I will do 100 cartwheels in a row and then pack my bags and go on a Caribbean cruise and drink foo-foo banana split drinks and skinny dip in the Caribbean Sea in stunned celebration.

    Draper out two weeks

The way he went down last night, I was fearing it was a lot, lot worse of either a torn MCL or ACL. That he was able to get up on his own power fairly quickly and able to skate back to the bench for the most part on his own, as well as drive to the hospital, was encouraging. Two weeks isn't as long as everybody thinks in the regular season. Sprained injuries are a pain in the ass in the fact that they aren't as bad as breaks/tears obviously, but they just never seem to just completely go away. So, as much as I'd like to have Draper back in the lineup ASAP, I'd be cautious and maybe take an extra few games or a week if necessary. The team is still sitting pretty in the standings and I don't see them just completely struggling for wins for a while, so they can afford to rest Draper a bit more IMO. Of course he's one of our best PKers, but Babcock roles so many people out shorthanded that other players are more than capable of picking up the slack.

Drapes out with a sprained left knee

At first glance yes, but who knows. When he went down like he did, I feared it was a tear. I tore my ACL playing basketball years ago and didn't really just collapse or fall down hard, but when I heard my knee pop as I collided with an opposing player, it was over. However, if it's reported as just a sprain, that's good news in a way. Obviously not as bad as a tear, but sprains are such the biggest pain in the rear because they never completely go away. At least the sprain (or so I am assuming) isn't on the foot or ankle, those are the worst if it's a sprain I think. Worst case scenario, I'd say he rests a little extra time than normal, for 3-4 weeks roughly, to give the knee extra rest and have any nagging pain go away as much as possible. Best case scenario in getting back on the ice quickly, I'd say he's out for a week or two. They'll be fine, plenty of regular season left for other players to step up in an increased role and for the Wings to get more W's than L's.

    2007 College Football Season Talk

I am by no means an LSU homer and some of the things I read/heard after their loss to Arkansas Friday by fans cracked me up, but I heard something on talk radio this morning that got me a bit curious... Firstly and less of what got me curious, I'm surprised they dropped all the way to 7th in the BCS, especially when Virginia Tech (who they pistol whipped) and Georgia (not even going to the SEC Championship) is ahead of them. Thought they'd be at worse #5. Guess the theory of "lose early, not late" really applies to the BCS for better or worse. Not really ranting/complaning about this, but you get what I mean... Secondly, if the old ways to determine college football were used and we were back to ties, you think LSU would still be in the National Championship picture, assuming they win the SEC championship? Because they have not lost in regulation at all this season (both losses in triple overtime), and with those rules they'd be 10-0-2. Or do you think some teams with 1 loss would deserve to be ahead of them? Again, not trying to be an LSU homer or justify their case for being in the National Championship game itself, but what I heard this morning surprisingly interested me. I understand and am content with how standings are determined now without ties and everything else, as there is no one perfect system.

    Down with the Instigator Rule

I'm all for eliminating the instigator rule like everyone else it seems, but help me out here and tell me if my train of thought here is out of whack or if I'm about to put my foot in my mouth like an idiot (again). Will eliminating the instigator rule yield to less brutal instances of injuries/suspensions, but increase the basic run-of-the-mill 1-on-1 fights due to players being more accountable and not "running" at other players?

The Battle of 19 : Stevie vs Sakic and others

Personally I'm just taking the middle ground and realizing that both athletes are/were pretty damned good at their trade and were two of the best to play during their times. Yzerman was the man for obvious reasons. And while I'm not all that familiar with the complete history of the Nordiques/Avalanche franchise, Sakic has got to be without question, one of the faces of that organization. Seriously, who gives a f**k that badly on comparing the two when they are just that damned good as athletes and leaders? Aain, I'm taking the less stressful and less heartburn approach with this. Might not be as much fun, but it's more logical and healthy.

    Dom Bashers Welcome!

Magnificent perspective Booster313. Again, I'm neither a gigantic Osgood/Hasek fan or completely against either goaltender. I want both of them to do well and I like both of them. I don't get all that emotional at goalies or the Red Wings, at sports, or about much anything anymore that I have little or no control over But I'm just flat out going to say it. Some people in here, you know who you are, are just acting like a whole bunch of f**king retards revolving Hasek and or Osgood with the baseless ripping on either of them (primarily Hasek right now, unforutnately Osgood will probably have his lumps in time, although I'm not hoping for this to happen). Ripping on the goalie in this thread saying "OMG HASEK OR OSGOOD SUCKS ZOIKIES STOP THE DAMN PUCK" without any logical reasoning, or any other goalie thread, isn't constructive. It isn't fun. It's retarded and stupid. You don't have to like one or both of the goalies. But you better damn at the very least show some respect for both of them on all that they have accomplished in the past, and that both of them are trying to backstop the Red Wings right now. Support the damn goaltenders and the team. And am I saying to not be frustrated when one/both of them are might be struggling? Of course not. I wish Hasek could be getting his act together. But for the love of god, saying one of the goaltenders is just completely done when the season is just barely a quarter of the way through and this team is going to make the playoffs anyways is just flat out dumb. THINK PEOPLE. THINK. This team is going to make the playoffs in spite of how good or bad Hasek or Osgood might be playing, and it's a long time before April. Osgood deserves to be playing more based on his early season success, and he is currently playing more and I like everybody else am happy for them. And Hasek will be given ample opportunity to get out of his rut, and I have plenty of confidence that he will as there is still plenty of regular season left to go for him before the playoffs to get better and for Osgood to continue to play well. We should be damned thankful to have not one, but TWO goalies who have won Stanley Cups as starters and are still capable of playing hockey at high competitive levels, BOTH as starters, despite Hasek being "over the hill" and Osgood being in his mid-thirties. It's such a fricken joke to continue to see posts in here by members where Osgood is brought up just to bring Hasek down, or vice versa when members are all high and mighty on Hasek resulting in a slap in the face to Osgood. I'm sorry, but I'm just absolutely sick of this crap overall with the mindless banter on either/both goaltenders. If you don't like what I just had to say, tough, that's how I feel. Stop acting like f**king imbosils with the pointless bashing, and support both goaltenders.
