    11/1 GDT: Red Wings 4, Flames 1

Right now, (well not right now since it's 5:45am and it's not quite time for this yet...) I seriously want to treat Zetterberg and Osgood to a giant steak dinner.

Panic Button HAS been pressed in Vancouver.

Just wait until the Wings lose 2 or 3 in a row this season or have a 10 game record of 5-5 or 6-4 perhaps. Then panic mode will be in full swing in here unfortunately.

    Wings join Forsberg hunt

Ah, t'was not aware of such high salary demands. I'd still definietly be open to trying to get him despite that, but the high demands make me a bit more uncomfortable. Other than that, I could care less of any "history" he might have had against the Wings. Hopefully, he'll lower his cash demands somehow.

    Anaheim Duck fans

I really haven't read responses in this thread in great detail, but I already know how I think this thread is going: portraying Duck fans as fricken retards, thus giving us the perception of being above others. The fans that watch on TV or go to the games, they like them. They are trying to understand. Hockey isn’t the easiest sport to pick up on and understand all the rules. I know I’m no genius when it comes to the sport. Get over your obsessions with the Ducks. It’s not healthy. It's over, they won, they beat us and won the Cup. Move on. There’s more to life than obsessing over the Ducks, the Red Wings and hockey. If you can’t do that, then at the very least don't rub the faces of others in the dirt who might not be as educated on the sport regardless of what they they like, just because you are a fan of a team who has a more storied history or live in a market/city that might have more hockey acumen. Don't act like snobs and elitists giving Red Wings fans a bad rep overall.

    Hudler's Superstar Sniper Shot

Besides your weird love-obsession with Fedorov and hate-obsession with Hudler, why should this trade happen? And you have to provide some other reasons beside variations of "Fedorov is destined to become a Red Wing and have his number retired again" or because "Hudler sucks", because that only satisfies your wants/needs.

    Better Together than Apart

They may be better together obviously, but Datsyuk and Zetterberg are just so good in the playmaking sense that the Wings really need them to play apart on even-strength situations until other players can show that they can be an offesive threat in a 2nd line role on a consistent basis (which actually seems somewhat promising these past couple games). If ZDH are still together and there's no offensive support for them from the 2nd or 3rd line on a consistent basis, other teams can focus on shutting the top line down without much worry of having to get scored upon from other lines. You can't have a one-trick pony in the playoffs if the other parts of your team aren't supporting you. I'll never complain seeing ZDH together at all, but the Wings need to learn to play and win with them split apart if they want to go far in the playoffs I think. I don't think you'll ever see them purposefully broken up in special team/power play opportunities though.

    Wings join Forsberg hunt

Why not? It'd be a low-risk gamble I think in terms of dollars if I had to guess, much like the Hasek gamble last season. Health was obviously an issue with Hasek last year, and he passed that test with flying colors and could still be one of the best players at his position even during the closing of his playing career. You can pretty much put Forseberg in the same scenario as well. And, until guys like Flipper and Hudler can show some consistency (which I hope they do cause I want them to stay with the Wings) and score or be a good threat in a 2nd line role, Detroit is going to need some more scoring/playmaking. Forseberg fits that role to a T.

    Roberto Luongo

Luongo? The next goaltender in Detroit? Not anytime within the next few seasons IMO with how they are trying to prep and promote Jimmy Howard and with Chris Osgood looking like he might finish out his career here (not saying that it's bound to happen or don't have credible sources, just a gut feeling with how well he's started this year and accepted his current role in the organization). Thinking that Luongo will be a Red Wing anytime soon is a pipe dream I think with the roles that Osgood and Howard are currently in.

    what's up with dat's shot?

I'd say it's a concern to a limited extent as we all want Datsyuk to score a few more goals. However, when he's still had a hand in a good amount of the goals being scored so far this season and averaging over a point a game with just two goals, it's hard to really complain obsessively about him. A point is a point no matter how you get it, and Datsyuk has definitely been one of the main cogs on offense so far this year even though he's only netted 2 goals so far.

    NHL Center Ice Online

After having problems with NHL Center Ice on my TV the past few games (along with having to fight for TV time every now and then when games are on), I decided to give it the finger and order NHL Center Ice Online. Online video feeds are going to be far from perfect, but I'm not all that hard to please, watching a game in crappy quality or black/white TV is better than no TV, and I tuned into game action for the first time last night online and I liked it a good bit. Especially like where you can watch 4 games at the same time if your eyes are fast enough. Won't use this feature all that much as I'm busy during the week, but it'll get me paying attention to other teams to a certain degree, versus when I just had NHL Center Ice on TV the past 2 years and rarely watched games outside of the Red Wings cause I was only limited to one game on the screen. Looks to be well worth the $169 spent, and it's better this way actually. Don't ever have to fight for the remote and I if I feel like going out during games I can bring my laptop to a bar/restaurant and enjoy 'self. Yep, I read and am aware of that rebate stuff where you can have NHL Center Ice on TV and Online at a reduced rate, but I'm just going with online (have Versus on my regular TV so that's covered).

The Elite That You've Lost Respect For

Sending messages is one thing. Iginla's got all the tools of a great hockey player, and even a leader sometimes, but actually saying to the press after such a game "We were just looking to hurt people" (don't remember the exact quote but I am 100% confident Iginla said something around that nature after DET-CGY game 5 in the first round) kinda rubs me the wrong way. Just doesn't seem all that right to me. Now, would I put a bit of that uncertainty aside if he somehow wound up playing with the Wings? Of course, I'm one to easily get over things or not hold grudges, but I did lose a little bit of respect for him from what he said. I've lost a little bit of respect for Chris Pronger as well for some of the things he did last playoffs. I have no doubt he's probably a good guy off the ice, I have little doubt I could be one to hang out with the guy or have a few beers if that actually ever happened, but the excuses of "that's the way you play" or "I'm too tall" are just silly. Questionable hits obviously. However, I don't feel the same way about others do in here about him. I know Chris Pronger usually = Satan to most people in here, but the obsession with him last playoffs got way beyond ridiculous. I'd feel the same way about him as well as Iginla. If for whatever reason he wound up a Wing, I'd be open to it.

Wings don't back down anymore! Downey, Downey!

This happened a lot last playoffs so I'm not shocked that it's still going on. I don't think fans in here should be that shocked about it. Absolutely 100% agreement. Downey has been fun to watch in his limited ice time, but I don't want people to think he is all of a sudden a demi-god or has been the end-of-all-end solutions to "grit" or "enforcement" or "toughness" that people have been going back and forth in here at least 6 or 700 times. Downey and Drake have certainly helped, but this theme was present in last playoffs again. I attribute it much more to that.

    NHL Center Ice Online

Yes/no in a way actually, kinda a weird goofy situation. I moved back home after college and it took me a while to find work, I was living with them at the time and still did thereafter I got employed to save up money.....then Hurricane Katrina happened. Long/short of it where I currently live we got our property fixed up, my parents brought another property after the storm hit and live there for the most part. The other owned property, where I stay at, the mortgage for it was already paid off before Katrina hit, and I live here by myself not all of the time but most of it, but they still come in every now and then like once a week. As much as I want my own place technically, makes sense for me to stay here right now as I like my job, I like it here, I live by myself for the most part, they live there for the most part, and I save money this way. I can deal with the annoyance of them coming over every now and then (can't really tell them NOT to since it's technically their property ). It doesn't really piss me off all that much anyways. Make sense now? We have more than 1 TV in here, but the Center Ice feed could only work with one TV in the main living area, so... Even with Center Ice not really working on the TV, it works well this way whenever they are in, I always can watch my games and all that crap. Good rubbing-in and feel free to make fun of me some more. Last night was good during the early evening. Again, it's not as good as what you would see on TV, but it's far from crappy and it's way better than nothing. If you want to watch 4 games at once, you can only listen to the sound of 1 of the 4 games, and you have to look pretty closely at your monitor, but it's still 4 games all at once in a close-up view. And you can enlarge the screen of any of the games you are watching. Don't know if I can tune in tonight, but I'll be tuning in for Sunday night's game and I might garner in to the earlier evening games as well. It works for me as I'm not in a hockey market.....since I got wireless Internet so I can watch at home or can go somewhere else to watch it with Internet access without hounding restarauant or bar managers to give me weird looks for putting on a hockey game. There's one bar that's a pretty good one actually that will put on hockey games every now and then, they have NHL Center Ice with Direct TV, but I don't go there that much to begin with. I got into watching games online last year actually with my alma mater when I could get most of there football games online when they weren't on TV and it worked out well for me there too. Respectable screen quality, etc.

    The Drake returns sunday...

This is no knock on Drake, but more of a testament of how others have played due to him and Samulesson being injured recently. I think Drake has to sit right now. Downey's done his job with his limited ice time providing energy, a job similar to what I assume Drake would do and with roughly the same amount of ice time more/less. Ellis the same, and he's shown a knack offensively. And while Kopecky hasn't lit the lamp, he's been far from invisible out there. I'd be happy to see Drake back in and it won't kill me if one of the other three are scratched as I have no control over coaching decisions and would understand why they'd want to put Drake back it, but it wouldn't kill me either if Drake waited his turn due to the three above playing very well so far.

    Markov Signs in Russia

Who the heck knows what's up with this scenario? I don't know much of the in-depth details, but maybe Markov wanted to go back to Russia all along? Him or his agent had bitter feelings towards any offers that Holland or other GMs might have offered? I don't think anybody will know what will have went on in the minds of Markov or his agent through this process other than the two of them.

Babs on the ZDH Line: "We'll go away from it"

This shouldn't be a shock, lines get broken ujp and changed all the time. I seriously doubt that these three will ever be purposefully broken up on normal power play activity, but as much as I like to see these three together, I'd rather have 2-3 lines capable of scoring more often than not, versus just 1 dominant line and 3 other lines that will barely do jack squat. If for whatever reason the Wings go on a dry spell, they'll probably be back together.

Leafs looking at Holland as new GM?

Credible or not, I can bet some fans in here would be thrilled to death if Holland wasn't GM of the Wings anymore, despite others directly invovled in NHL business saying he's one of the best GMs around presently.

Babcock quote in The Hockey News

I agree with this to a certain degree. I'm not really associating lack of vocals with the novelty/intellect bit you said at the end, but I think I understand where you are coming from. As for me personally, (I know nobody in here is doing this specificially but...) I absolutely hate when people tell me how I should cheer. - I don't yell/scream to the top of my lungs - I don't get drunk before every game and yell profanities at refs or other players or other fans - I'm not a cheerleader and I'm not peppy - I'm not a rah-rah-sisk-boom-bah kinda person - I don't decorate myself in body paint of my team's colors - I'm not overly emotional at sporting events when I have no control over them That doesn't mean I'm not into the games or that I don't care. I just like to watch the games though. I'll applaud/acknowledge when it's deemed/deserved, but I'm just not the zany crazy fan. I don't miss many games, and I've made a long trek these past two seasons to a few Wings games. So you cannot say I'm not supportive. If you don't like the way I show my support (or lack of it at a sporting event), sorry but you can stick it where the sun doesn't shine (not you specifcally YoungGuns or anybody else in here, just my general opinion and how I noramlly watch sportin events).

    Give Hudler, Filppula, Kopecky time

I'm definitely with you on all three and am an extremely patient person by nature on stuff I have no control over, but asking the majority of people to be patient in here is like asking Michael Jackson to lay off another kid. Ain't gonna happen....
