Red Wings create their own sound in Motown

Oh good lord. Only you would go so far to think that this article, or any article for that matter, is an insult to Steve Yzerman. Yzerman was synonymous with Red Wings hockey for the past 20+ years, and Brendan Shanahan a major part of it for roughly 10 years in recent times. It’s kinda a given that they will still be mentioned with Detroit for a while still even though they don't play for the Wings anymore. So maybe you need to get over the fact that many people will still be talking about the Red Wings in a "post-Yzerman" era for at least the next few seasons. With your line of thought here, we should just forget about Yzerman and Shanahan as well and get over him. Stop wearing their jerseys when they were Red Wings, throw away or sell any memorabilia of those players, and so forth. Not an easy thing, and it’s probably a next to impossible task, for many Red Wings fans to do. Get it through your head, people have been telling you over and over again that nobody is slighting or intentionally going out of their way to insult Yzerman, or even unintentionally insulting him, so quit reaching and looking for ridiculous excuses to get pissed off at an issue that only you make up and make a giant soap opera out of.

    Aaron Downey?

I dig Aaron Downey b/c I heard he hosts ass-kicking barbeque parties and grills some mean hamburgers and ribs. That's why I want him to make it on Detroit. If I come up for Red WIngs games at all, I can eat the mean hamburgers and be a part of the ass-kicking barbeques at his place of residence. Other than that, I haven't got a clue why else I dig him yet... *shrugs*

I completely gave up soda about three years ago when I lost a lot of weight. One of the best decisions I ever made. Since that time, I've probably had no more that 10 sodas, if that. All I drink now is water, skim/low-fat milk, coffee (something I wish I could curb some, but I get little sleep during the week), red wine, and beer infrequently, and Gatorade/sports drinks VERY INFREQUENTLY. As for the fit part, I hope I've done my part the past two days. Yesterday and today I did the same cardio workout, 30 minutes each time on the EFX machine (basically similar to climbing, but not a stepping machine). I burned 430 and 420 calories respectively and went for about 3 3/4 miles each time. That's damn fast for me so I better be getting in shape. If I wake up early enough tomorrow morning I want to run 4 miles before work.

New NHL schedule format for 2008-2009 season

SWEET!!!! I don't care if it's a heated rivalry game, 8 games against one team a year is just too damn much. I know most of us are probably a little biased b/c the Wings are an East Time Zone team in the Western Conference, but WC teams barely get to see the new starts in Ovecheckin, Crosby, Malkin, etc. Got to play each team at least once.

I don't necessarily like the treadmill, but I've learned to tolerate it. And I probably get more out of it vs. running outside b/c I'll typically run faster on a treadmill. For me now, it's not so much for me whether I prefer running treadmills vs. outdoors, it's largely about stretching before the run to me. I try to stretch for at least a good 5 minutes to not immediately cramp. Usually after jogging a quarter mile or so, I know if I'll be in the mood to run a lot or just call it quits after around 2 miles. Stretching has a large part to do with that. Can somebody explain this to me though... I only worked out twice last week actually. Friday night, I ate cheese fries for dinner. Saturday night while out watching football, I had a large salad, some pasta, and leftover fries from somebody who didn't finish. Sunday, I ate Sonic for dinner. Today I bought donuts for everybody at work, and I ate 5 of them throughout the day today. I weigh myself when I get home and I weight a little less than last week. The logic doesn't add up. They had about 500 of them where I went to college, but I probably only had it a handful of times.

Schneider and Bertuzzi make Ducks debut

And I can guaran-dam-tee you that if this was just a run-of-the-mill job and one of us was in a similar scenario, we'd at the very least strongly consider the opportunity to re-locate. I like the Red Wings just like every other person in here but it simply astounds me that people so easily forget that to many of these players, this is how they make a living, just like how we make a living M-F 9-5 or whatever jobs we might do. Sometimes you have a chane of heart in where you want to work. Money might be a factor, sometimes it isn't. While I like my job a lot right now and don't make a lot of money at it, I don't know if I want to work at it in 10 years or remain here. I might want to move somewhere else. It's not all about the Red Wings to these players, it's not all about their favorite team, or our favorite team. These people can re-locate or move to different places to work/play, under proper terms, just like you, I, or anybody else even though we aren't professional athletes.

Schneider and Bertuzzi make Ducks debut

Defense is not about scoring goals first, it is about playing..............you guessed it, DEFENSE! While there are plenty of offensively-talented defensemen out there, like Lidstrom and Rafalski, their job is to play DEFENSE first. It's not all about stats and numbers in sports, even in hockey past goals-assists-points. Shutting down top players to no points a game, hits per game, average ice time, and a myriad of other things. Lilja and Chelios are not offensive-minded defensemen. If they get over five goals a season, even combined, that's like a bonus to the Red Wings. Their role is to play DEFENSE first and kill penalties, where you often don't score goals. Your arguments might have some spice to them if you took some time to look past the numbers only. EDIT: And wishing injuries on somebody is classless and pathetic, to the few people in the beginning of this thread. I don't care if it is a Duck player or not. Seriously, the whole Wings/Ducks fiasco drama by people in here is really getting old and stale. They won, the Wings didn't. It's done and finished. Get over it and worry about the Wings, not the other teams.

    Opening Day Tickets

It's tough times up there. If the Wings won the Cup, people would still support them in huge numbers for a post-season parade. I don't have a lot of money just to throw away, and as happy as I am for the New Orleans Saints to do good last year where I am from and for all the excitement this season, I wasn't going to just throw all that money towards season tickets or pay $100-$200 dollars for one game. Still support them though...

    2007 College Football Season Talk

I know, I'm just still baffled why we would even pass in that scenario. Air Force is still definitely a ball-control offense even though they are passing a bit more this year. TCU's always been a team that likes to run the ball, even after L. Tomlinson graduated in 2000. You probably saw from Thursday night's game that we CAN pass it, but we've never been a school that relies solely on it, I don't see us throw deep all that often. We win on offense that's normally either run/short passes first, then do some play action. In terms of run/pass ratio of plays that TCU WANTS to do I think to play effectively, we're probably 65%/35%.

    2007 College Football Season Talk

Not true, we threw a pass of 10+ yards with a 1/2 minute left for an interception when the damn game was tied and we were well in field goal range with timeouts left when we should've just run the damn ball once/twice to kick an easier field goal and play the better odds. Kick a field goal then, and you go home... One of the worst play calls I've seen recently. RUN THERE, DON'T PASS!

    2007 College Football Season Talk

Thankfully I don't yel or rant and rave really at sports anymore and take this stuff too seriously, cause I can guarantee you many people back in Fort Worth are probably on suicide watch right now. Nevertheless, that was a pretty pathetic and embarassing loss. There was no logical reason for TCU to lose that game last night, but almost every time they got around Air Force's red-zone they just were terrible... Two interceptions in the red zone... A fumble by one of their RB's in the red zone... A 20-yard field goal blocked... And a field goal off the upright in overtime... That's 4, FOUR, blown scoring opportunities in the red zone TCU easily probably could have had, at the very worst, 3 more field goals if they didn't just play like asshats in the redzone. There was absolutely no logical reason for this game to go into overtime. I understand being worn out after a tough game at Texas on Saturday and a short time turnover, but the outcome of the game was an absolute joke. To say TCU beat themselves is a huge understatement. This is a type of game I'd rather lose by 40 instead of a slim margin, to see your team just screw up so much when you are right there to put points on the board over and over again and don't do it, that's just difficult to watch. A conference championship is still up for grabs and I'd be happy with that, but bye bye any chances for the BCS for TCU (again). Give Air Force all the kudos in the world for playing their butts off on defense and making plays.

    Sharks Dubbed as Cup Favourites.

Yeah, understandable. Wilson could've had a better choice of words, but he's right to an extent If Nabokov controls the rebound in game 2 with a minute/change left, no goal for Datsyuk and we're looking at overtime that game. If they didn't screw up in game 4 in the last minute, they go up 3-1 in the series and have a big stranglehold. If Nabokov doesn't turn the puck over on a basic pass in game 5, that game is still tied, and who knows what the outcome might have been. If Grier didn't put the puck in on Hasek's pass goof in game 6 in an empty net, the game is much more interesting... We obviously got to give kudos to Lang and Datsyuk for capitalizing on those plays, Hasek for shutting them out in game 5, and give the Wings credit where it's due, putting them away, but the Sharks did beat themselves on many instances as well. Just trying to see it both ways and not be a complete homer.

Meh, could care less about pre-seasons of any sport personally. Plus I'm big on college football, and with that starting recently, I'm pretty happy. Once regular season starts I'll be tuning into just about every game.

    Motown's still rocking

http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/story/10348474 Don't know about Holland's guess about Nashville competing for the most points in the division, based off what I read in the brief article, but I don't think Nashville is going to fall off the map completely like most people originally might (or still be) have guessed.
