    Another Fedorov Thread...Sorry

I was over it after Fedorov's first few games as a Duck. While I'm not from the Detroit area, I follow a few other teams with probably the same attention as I do with Detroit...the New Orleans Saints, my college TCU, and LSU. A decent bit of attention, I barely miss any games, but I try not to take the stuff too seriously when it comes in terms of players, business, etc. Kind of comparing apples to oranges with the Fedorov booing and this scenario, but this year one of the best running backs in the nation went to high school in the New Orleans areas, and chose to go to USC instead of LSU to play his college football. LSU fans, generally speaking, started a water works rant that could've flooded the Atlantic Ocean. They thought this running back was a traitor to Louisiana, that they were entitled to him, etc. It was pretty sad and humorous at the same time. I mean let the running back do what he wants to do in college for the next 4-5 years, heaven forbid. It's his life, not the lives of fat beer-bellied LSU fans. There's just times when fan reaction and behavior just go overboard, like the LSU thing I laid out or with Fedorov. Now, I don't pull my hair out about it or get pissy at it because any actions I try to do won't prevent any of that stuff, I understand why people boo Fedorov and why some LSU fans act the way they do for better/worse, but I don't take part in any of that stuff. I'm a big fan of these teams, but it's not worth taking so seriously and getting heartburn over as I have no control over what players do or where they go, etc. So, Fedorov left the Red Wings 5 years ago. It's done and over with, it's been time to get over it for a long time now.

Pizza still happens for me sometimes. Actually ate it last night for dinner for the first time in probably over a month, but it was out at a pretty nice Italian restaurant. I rarely do the chain pizza thing too plan and too much calories and such. I'm still pressing along pretty good with my progress, I weighed in at 145. Kept up my exercise for most of this week, I did a spinning class last night which burned off a lot of calories, and I plan to do around 25 miles of bike riding today.

Why all the hate for Babcock?

Profiles saying he should be fired? These are very stupid people. Seriously though, I don't have any beef with Babcock. Sure, he's walked into a pretty good situation in Detroit to a franchise that has been very successful over the past decade, but I like his approach from what it seems. He seems like an easily approchable, down-to-earth guy off the ice, but at work he pushes you extremely hard and does not like slacking off, it doesn't matter if you are a star or have an established/successful rep. As for Lewis, I don't think anybody will ever know, or can accurately say, if he got a fair chance with the Red Wings as head coach. 2 years is an awfully quick time to give somebody the ax, I don't care what team you coach. I know this is a results-driven business/sport, but sometimes you have to ask yourself if we expect too much/too fast sometimes. I think the perception of Lewis being one of those guys who was easily approachabile even off the ice, and not really being as hard-nosed hurt his chances to begin with in Detroit after being next in line after legendary Scott Bowman. He just was in an extremely tough "win" situation to be head coach for the Wings, in terms of the expectations at least. I wish he could've translated his asst. coach success with Detroit to the head coaching gig. Then, he gets axed after just 1 year in Boston. Again, results driven business, but you got to ask yourself if the bar is set too high. Coaching is just a tough gig all around.... That being said, I'm glad Babcock is the coach. This past season wasn't a make/break year for him in terms of job security, but the solid playoff run, along with the team showing some pretty good snarl/grit and not backing down from "bigger" or more "physical" teams in the playoffs shows that, at least from the look of things, he's installed a work mentality of never quitting, always working, and always busting your tail to get to a puck, finish a check, etc.

    Versus Schedule released

Versus has absolutely nothing to do with that and blaming them for that is a wee bit ridiculous. Blame your local cable provider for that one.

Could it happen in hockey or does it?

Inconsistency in agreeing on how the rules/game should be called, whether you let almost everything go, or call everything, nothing more and nothing less. There's no bias, no betting, no ineptness, no conspiracy theories to draw up, just lack of understanding/agreement. I don't care if you call just 2 penalties a game or 20 (although I hope it wouldn't come to that). Just try to be as consistent and fair with your calls as possible as a group of referees for a game.

    Versus Schedule released

I don't have a problem with Versus. They show hockey games, they put a lot of attention to the sport that ESPN/ABC didn't do as much. Annoucing/commentary is secondary to me. As long as they show the games, that's fine with me. They are fine. If the annoucing bothers somebody that much, just hit the damn mute button on your TV.

No no...It's all Lidstrom's fault cause he's a greedy bastard who isn't deserving of a multimillion dollar/year contract as one of the best defenseman in the league. GREEDY BASTARD! (haven't heard this silly bash yet so...) /end sarcasm

He did during the Calgary and San Jose playoff series. That being said... LANG IS LAZY AND HE SUCKS! Yeah that's right I said it! At least this will make people wander what stance I take on him.

Osgood Wants To Play Five More Years

Nobody has intended or is intent on comparing/contrasting Osgood and Hasek. Why does a slight against Osgood on here almost always mean that Hasek is put on a higher pedastal, or vice versa?

Osgood Wants To Play Five More Years

Insert overembelished and overdramatic post about how pitiful Osgood is because he let's in 2 soft goals every 63 games *HERE*. And I second the last post about YoungGuns. While I think Osgood can certainly hold his own for a good while in a starting role somewhere, this is a guy who wants to be with the Red Wings. There aren't a whole lot of athletes in any professional sport anymore that give the perception that they want to stay in 1 city for a long wihle. Not that there's anything wrong with that generally speaking, as you have to look out for yourself and your own career obviously, which might require working/playing in a different city, but I digress. Osgood seems to be one of those athletes in the minority, and that's a good thing.

All right here's another random dealie I don't get... Remember on Looney Tunes back in the day when Sylvester would try to catch a small mouse every now and then, but a big mouse appeared and would freak him out? Wasn't the big mouse a baby kangaroo all the time? If that's the case, there's no such thing as a giant mouse then. Logic doesn't add up again! But then again, I'm a weird strange person, so.........

In a way it's impressive I guess, but despite being a local, I've never really been into the food here all that much. Not really into crawfish, I like seafood every now and then down here but I'm more of an Italian guy. I cracked yesterday but I pretty much have wrapped up fast food eating in a box for good, except for an infrequent visit to Sonic once in a while like yesterday. Other than that, the only fried food I eat is from a casual restaurant. Fast food overall sucks. But even after eating Sonic yesterday afternoon I didn't gain much, which is very encouraging because my eating decisions, more often than not, are starting to pay off. And sacraficing soda helps A LOT. A lot less sugar intake during the day usually can contribute to some weight loss. I lost about 35-40 pounds a few years ago, giving up soft drinks was one of the big difference makers.

    THN Player Poll

Lovely stuff... My opinions... This was likely posted a while ago I believe, but it's summer and this is for those who didn't see it: How do you feel about the NHL schedule format? 1) There should be more games against the other conference (248) 89% Without question. I don't care if it's rivals or not, 8 games against 4 teams is ridiculously too much for a year. I'm not for contracting teams, so it'd be hard to play non-conference teams twice, but I propose "just" 6 games against your division teams, 4 games against non-divisional conference opponent teams, and 1 game against non-conference teams. If my math is correct that's 24 division games + 40 non-divison conference games + 15 non-conference games = 79 NHL season games. More than enough and you play everybody, and will at least see everybody in your barn every other year. What should the NHL do about the delay-of-game penalty for clearing the puck over the glass? 1) Keep it as is: a two-minute minor (128) 46% Am fine with the newer rule. Would you rather see a fourth-line roster spot go to: 2) A skilled player who can play the power play and participate in the shootout (93) 34% To the grit/tough lovers in here...I'M NOT AGAINST FIGHTING OR ENFORCERS 100%, I like fights but I'm not going to go ga-ga over somebody who just fights or primarily fights. I just don't think their role is as important as the other choice. If you could play for any NHL team (other than your own), which would you choose? Don't play hockey, so I can't answer this. To what city would you least like to be traded? See above. What is the toughest building to play in on the road? 1) Detroit Red Wings (41) 16.4% 2) Calgary Flames (37) 14.8% 3) Montreal Canadiens (25) 10% 4) San Jose Sharks (21) 8.4% 5) Philadelphia Flyers (14) 5.6% Surprised the Shark Tank isn't higher up. That place can get LOUD. Which NHL arena has the best ice? 1) Edmonton (152) 58.4% From watching games and from voice-of-mouth, Edmonton without much question. Which NHL arena has the worst ice? Dallas' old arena used to be terrible. I went to a few games when I went to college in Dallas-Fort Worth area and whenever somebody would dump the puck in for example, the puck would just die behind the goalline. American Airlines is a bit better. -- If you had a son who was an NHL prospect, would you prefer to see him play: No opinion to be fair/accurate. What’s the best thing about your job? 1) Living dream/playing/adrenaline/sold out buildings, etc. (111) 43% 2) Friendship/Teammates (32) 12% Perfectly understand #1 response, surprised #2 didn't get higher, would think the camradere would be pretty important, both for friendships and future business/career. What’s the worst thing about your job? 1) Travel/flying/sked/missing family (104) 42.6% Self-explanatory Which of the following phrases most closely resembles your opinion of the NHL working environment? No opinion to be fair/accurate.
