wings should go after iginla next off season
SouthernWingsFan replied to canadienhater's topic in General
There you go again, acting condescending towards members again like you almost always do, and you clearly don't see it. :looney: And while you may not like it, YOU cannot speak for everybody else on LGW, so you saying that I am wrong is being arrogant and "bold", as you say it, as well. Aw, but I want to keep playing. If I can't keep pushing Crymson's buttons, like you do to other people with your big/bold condescending attitude, I'm going to have to find other sources of entertainment! -

Pot, meet kettle. You act like a pompous a'hole in a majority of your posts. Oh geez, I can act like a jerk too! Who is to say you are right? EDIT: People would like Chris Pronger if he were on the Wings eventually. -

Him jamming the knob of his stick on Schneider around the end of game 5 when the game was all but settled.....that wasn't intentional? The knob of the stick, if it hits Schneider in the wrong place, hand/wrist, and he's injured. -

I was up to something tonight. I worked out then I went out to eat some Italian food. And the Wings are up to something to as well? What a coincidence! Gotta love Eklund. -

While I'm not supporting what Iginla did when the few games they lost to the Wings in the playoffs this season, anybody who says they wouldn't want him on here is kidding themselves. He's got size, he can put the puck in the net, he's not afraid to throw his body around. And he wouldn't be captain if he was on the Wings here. Alternate at best, so his "questionable" leading tactics would be toned down by others. He's just got to curb his temper a bit if games are in hand and his team is on the wrong end of the scoreboard. I'm not expecting him on the Wings anytime soon but would I like to see him on the Wings in the present time? Hell yeah. -

Holland: Prices for Bertuzzi, Schneider & Markov high
SouthernWingsFan replied to kindlwillbegreat's topic in General
AAAAAAAAAARGH! This does not make me a happy camper, guess it should be expected to an extent thouh. My thoughts on the three (not including Hasek b/c he's all but back pretty much) currently... Schneider is the most important overall I think. I'm not going to say if he would've been in the Anaheim series, he would've ultimately been "the factor" in helping the Wings get to the Finals. We'll never know. However even as he gets up in age, he's still pretty valuable and productive on the offensive side of the game and QBing the defense on one power play unit. And even though he's far from a bruiser, he has some snarl and can throw a hit every now and then. Markov is somebody who I really would like to keep here, a good stay at home guy who isn't afraid to hit and provided something the Wings had not enough of in recent seasons. Still, overall he's not as important to keep as Schneider, though I'd like to keep both somehow. Also, if Lilja can maintain the play he had more often than not in the playoffs, we have somebody like Markov already here. Bertuzzi, man I just don't know. If his back can ever get better, I think he could be around a point-per-game player, and we saw glimpses of how solid he was built and hard to knock off the puck. A late regular season game at Columbus comes to mind where he and a Jackets player collided, and the Jackets player just went down cold. I'd like all three back, but in order of importance to keep... Schneider Bertuzzi Markov -
No no and no, and it's nothing against Raycroft. I am just tired of playing goalies like a game of musical chairs every season. I'm glad the Wings are probably not playing the game this upcoming season.

Would we have won the Cup if Yzerman played?
SouthernWingsFan replied to kindlwillbegreat's topic in General
We will never know and I don't like saying or reading that one player is or will be "the ultimate difference maker" to lead a guy to the Stanley Cup. In no way am I trying to diminish Yzerman's role in what he meant to the Wings. For example, without his big performance in the 1st round of the 2002 playoffs, getting past Vancouver would have been much harder. While he played a huge part in it, there were other players that stepped up those last 4 games as well...Fedorov had a big game 5, Hull a big game 6 with a hat trick, Hasek started to get going, etc. In hockey, especially these days with less scoring, you need contributions from as many people as possible, not just your leaders or star players, which is why I don't like a phrase such as the one created and will say that Yzerman playing probably wouldn't have made enough of a significant difference to win it all, especially with his body condition. As courageous and as mentally tough as Yzerman is, the body just eventually wins out. I don't care if it's him, or superman Chris Chelios who is defying logic right now it seems, the body will eventually wear out for Chris Chelios as well. The body wears down for everybody at some point in time where you just can't play or do the things you want to anymore at a competitive level. -
Incorrect. His ego couldn't take being the guy? How so and why, because that's a pretty bold statement and I've never heard of Shanahan being too proud or arrogant or anything of that nature? Show us... Any sources? I remember reading one of Detroit's papers online shortly after the Wings were eliminated from Edmonton in the first round 2 seasons ago, both Yzerman and Shanahan were having a meal together, and both pretty much agreed without much question, it was finally their time to step aside after playing wtih the Wings for so long. While Holland offered him a contract, I don't get the feeling that he was too hurt or offended that Shanahan signed with the Rangers. This is classless how? So, how does this not make Shanahan wrong for what he did or not classy or anything, where there seemed to be no secrets or bulls**ting from him or other parts of the organziation leading up to when he left? I emphasize again, people have changes of heart about work and their career in any profession, I don't care who you are. It's natural to want to try something new or in a different city after being in one spot for so long. At the very least, we should realize and show some appreciation as Wings fans that Shanahan stayed loyal to the Detroit organziation and worked in the same city for roughly 10 years (I feel the same way about Fedorov as well even though he might have left under "questionable" terms, let's not go there). These days, you know how many people and how frequently they switch jobs in their lives? A LOT. I've been at my job for about 2 1/4 years (love it and not leaving soon), and there has to be close to 10 people (small company to begin with) that have left or quit because they wanted to try something else with their careers, some after just working there for roughly a year or so. It's normal. If you're bad vibes towards SHanny is because of Jagr being with the Rangers, that has nothing to do with Shanahan, you can like Shanahan or the Rangers IN SPITE OF Jagr. I'm pretty lost here on your line of thinking and failing to pick up on how Shanahan is such a bad guy. I'm not seeing it.

Not a whole lot I guess, just something I threw out b/c it seemed sense to the argument supporting Shanahan while he was here, he helped the Wings win so much at a fairly good pace, just went to work, didn't really throw hissy fits or complain, just went about his business, etc.
-
That the bitterness towards him by some in here is pretty ridiculous.
-
For the few people that are bitter at Shanahan for leaving? Why? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. He won 3 Cups in Detroit in 9 seasons there. You know how damned good that percentage is? That means you are a champion 1 out of every 3 years. While I love Shanny, he was fading when it mattered most in the postseason in his latter years in Detroit. There was nothing else for him to prove here, New York offered him roughly the same amount of money, and it felt like a good time for both Shanahan and the Wings to move on. Sometimes you just want to work or play in a different city and you get burnt out in one spot/one city for so long. That is a normal part of work and professional life, whether it's a sport or corporate job. This holds true even if you work or play for the Detroit Red Wings, as shocking as it may be. Shanahan didn't leave on bad terms, so why the bitterness? (And for the love of god, let's not get in the Fedorov vs. Shanahan leaving debate) I mean, heaven forbid he does what he wants to do with his life!

Shouldn't have really exepcted much else given the situation. It looks like Giguere is content in playing in Anaheim for a long while, so good for Gigeure, and good for the Ducks. And can we please just let it go with the large pad jokes making Giguere a better goalie?

While it definitely wouldn't hurt to get one of the three originally listed in this thread, this offseason isn't going to be much of a bust to begin with IMO, b/c the roster the WIngs have is a pretty solid combination of skill/grit. They could get a little bigger and fiestier still but this past playoffs showed they aren't backing down from any team and aren't going to be intimidated physically, and they can dish out just as much as more "physical" teams. I don't forsee the roster changing much in terms of losing players, so already then, that makes the offseason a success given how the team performed last season and postseason.

Holland is lazy and he sucks for refusing to sign everybody available. Sorry, as thrilled as I am that the lazy Lang jokes will soon be going away, I had to slip that one in real quick.
-
I'm neutral on Lang. I'm certainly not disappointed to see him go, but wouldn't have been all up in arms moaning and crying if he was brought back. You cannot deny though that he was one of the best forwards for the Wings in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 playoff seasons. Oh well, at least this will start the demise of consistent "Lang is lazy and he sucks" remarks, which will be a good thing.

Government and NHL hockey have nothing to do with each other.
-
Hardly. While the Wings still could use some more snarl in the lineup, and while the Wings did play fairly well without Schneider in the lineup, he was eventually missed later in the Duck series I think. He's not a world beater in his own zone defensively, but he's still very important in the Wings lineup, helping QB a PP unit and giving the powerplay more solid depth. As much as I'd like to keep both, I really like Markov's game, but Schneider has more value. If it comes down to it, Schneider.

And why the hell don't stock car drivers ever turn right on purpose? Show some creativity damn it, this constant left-turning bulls**t is boring!
