No, I'm not saying just give the puck to the other team for an automatic 1-0 or put the puck in your own net for s**ts and giggles. I'm not dismissing the importance of scoring first for any confidence or momentum, but almost every game I watch you hear annoucers say more/less, "They've scored the all-important first goal, this makes them that much harder to beat now." I think it's overhyped, case in point we can just look back to the WIngs/Sharks series, the team that scored first only won once (Detroit game 6).

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

I know, I'm just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. But seriously though, think of the Clippers of recent years before they finally started to get better. I don't follow the NBA in depth all that much but I can bet they were having trouble getting attention when they weren't good, especially during the Shaq/Kobe/Phil Jackson Laker days.
-
Very nicely put. The Ducks have to compete with the Angels, Dodgers, Lakers, Clippers, Kings, and Sharks for attention. And that is just professionally. Consider that USC and UCLA are almost always solid in all sports, along with Cal (Berkley) getting good at football again, it's hard to keep up with everything down there. Don't forget Stanford, San Jose St, San Diego St, and Fresno St. There's just too much stuff going on down there, for better and for worse. I wouldn't get too worried about the Ducks not being the main squeeze. The most important thing is that you like them, there are other Duck fans out there, while it's hard for them to get the attention they might deserve now, they are going to be there for a while, and that is what counts. It's the same way here with me. I hosted a crawfish boil for friends/family the day of the Wings-Ducks game 2, and people were slowly filing out around the start of the game, and people were surprised to see hockey on. Game 3 of the SCF wasn't even showing here at all, NBC was showing a nationwide fundraiser (New Orleans was the only market where it was completely blacked out). So I can definitely relate I think. But I could really care less. I like hockey, I'm going to watch it whether people down here think it's stupid or not popular. The ratings might have been in the dump for the finals, and yes, the game is far from perfect, but it's still a damned good game to watch and I'm going to keep watching it for a long while.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs2007...&id=2896114 Some specifics for the Wings...
-
PUT THE STEAK KNIFE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!! Never played hockey being from where I am from obviously, I should have gotten into it some when I went to college in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Not a whole lot of hockey prescence there outside of the Stars obviously, but some nonetheless. I haven't been skating in forever, and I haven't tried to skate or rollerblade since I tore my ACL and MCL playing basketball about 3 years ago before I graduated.

Disney is GONE, I hope you reconsider. While I certainly don't support some of the "hate" you spoke of in this post, and I am certainly not denying that it happened at all in here, I hope you stay. The passion has gone overboard a lot in here during the conference finals and Stanley Cup Finals, but I can assure you that things are settling down in here now, everybody is level headed, and I think most of the over-bitterness of the Ducks is gone now, or will be calm soon. Stay!!!

SandMan, I'm going to be serious with you...I can appreciate your pride and passion you seem to show for the Wings, but you've got to tone it down about 50 notches and quit acting like all high and mighty to other members in here. No fans from other teams are trolling, no fans from other teams are starting flame wars in here just for the sake of starting flame wars, everybody in here is being civil and down to earth, and everybody in here is certainly welcome, even fans from other teams. Can you please try to be civil as well and stop acting so obnoxious?

When was your first Wings game at the Joe?
SouthernWingsFan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
My first game at JLA was the first season back from the lockout in 2005-06. I came up the week before Thanksgiving holidays I think of 2005 and saw the Wings play like poop in a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. The next game after that I went to live against the Predators, and it was the Jiri Fischer incident unfortuantely. I came up that same season for a game late in the spring against the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-2 loss in OT. So I was really a good luck charm that season. But, my luck changed. I came up this season around the 2nd weekend of December. They played the Blues again and were down 3-0 at some point in the 2nd period. I was thinking, "Aw geez, not this s**t again!" with my bad luck charm. But, they rallied to a 4-3 OT win with a Datsyuk goal, then the next game they played was a 5-1 pistol-whipping of Toronto (all PP goals), which was fun to watch. -
Some of our top moments from 2007 playoffs

Here's a related article of playoff moments from CBS.Sportsline.com. http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/story/10218861 -
How about LOCKOUT? I definitely want the Wings to win everytime, but if they get eliminated, I could usually care less who wins the Cup. Did I like Colorado during the rivalry days? Not much obviously, but I just don't stay bitter at teams forever and ever. It's still hockey. Any hockey, regardless of who gets in, is better than NO HOCKEY.

Serious Talks Of Expansion...And The Wings Moving East
SouthernWingsFan replied to Sleight's topic in General
Meh, personally I don't care that badly anymore. Yes, I'd rather the Wings be in the Eastern Conference so I can always get to bed earlier and not stay up late for West Coast games, but there are worse tragedies in life. I can still live with them bing in the West. If they expand to Kansas City and Las Vegas to get more fans interested in the game, more power to the NHL and I'd be happy for those cities/fans. If not, oh well. 30 teams is more than enought. -
:looney: What would I do without my entertainment from the bitter fan? You kill me man...

I copy, and I apologize again to you and everybody else. Just frustrated in what I've seen lately in our treatment towards Duck posters, and I obviously didn't interpret your post right and unforutantely lashed out 100% at you, and I really think they could've been treated better by us, hence some of the anger. No hard feelings at all towards you.
-
Hell yeah. As long as you don't troll, come on in. And any trolls from the Flames/Sharks/Ducks were weeded out early. Once everything settles down here in a few days or a week or two, people will be getting over the Wings getting eliminated and the Ducks winning for the most part and will get emotionally straight. I certainly want and welcome everybody from the opposing teams back into the fray to post.

Thanks for screwing us all, Mr. Bettman
SouthernWingsFan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
And what good would be accomplsihed of that? Seems like a waste of time to me. I'd rather Bettman and company work on improving the NHL rather than create a structure of a rear. -
Alanis Morisette's version of the song "Crazy". A very good edition of it.

Nope, I’m not backing off of this one. Yes I have heard a joke before, and this looked like a bad attempt at one. I apologize if I offended the poster or anybody else by calling him/her a snob, that I will retract, but my overall view on this stands. The ranting and whining towards the Ducks, a lot of their fans who posted in here during the series, the referees, and towards the NHL immediately after the WCF and during/after the SCF by fans in here was beyond ridiculous at times, not to mention making fun or looking down at the Ducks fan base (save the how small it might be jokes). I think we need to take a good look in the mirror at ourselves and do a better job of showing class and respect towards other fans in here and quit showing over-the-top bitterness or the “we are so better than you and will always be better than you†mentality just because the Wings are more established and have more history to refer back on. Were all of us in here like this? Of course not, but I was severely disappointed in the way a lot of us acted in here during the conference finals and Stanley Cup Finals and how bad we treated Duck fans overall.
-
And the makes Red Wings fans oh so perfect? Duck fans are just downright not dedicated and terrible then? Come on now, different teams, different fans bases. Just b/c the Wings are an O-6 team and have a great tradition doesn't make us any better/worse than Duck fans. Way to show some class and maturity there.

Some Duck players I don't like, but last part of this statement is almost spot on unfortuantely. There will still be blaming of the refs and the like as a result of the Wings getting eliminated from the Ducks even after next season starts. As much as I don't like Pronger he did own up to his 2nd mistake at least, so for that I will give him credit and get some respect back for him. His on ice tactics I will often question, but I have little doubt that Chris Pronger off the ice is probably a good guy. Nope, they didn't cheat, nothing significantly or blatantly better/worse than other teams and the refs didn't give them any more of a fair shake or chance of high significance compared to other teams. While I cannot comment on all Duck fans, I don't know Duck fans or don't go into their forums, I am pretty ashamed to see some of the members on here act like such sore losers right now. Are we all disappointed? Yes, I know I still am. Do I go constatly blaming external forces of nature? No. Bottom line is the Wings might have had more chances, but couldn't quite cash in, especially on the many power play attempts late in the series before they heated up a bit too late in game 6. Simple as that. People in here are going to be upset over the next few days and such, so you have to at least understand that, but don't take the sampling of extreme-bitter and classless fans right now as an entire portion of the Red Wings fan base. Despite some of the anger/resentment, this is still a great, great place to debate hockey. This place will settle down in here over the next few weeks and everybody will be sane again. Hopefully we'll still see you here.
