Which led to a 5-minute major on the Ducks and a 1-game suspension on Pronger. Yep, the refs are clearly in the Ducks back pocket after the result of that incident! :looney:

This is probably the biggest problem in all the things to consider. It's not so much the the officiating of the games themselves might be bad or inconsistent, but after nearly two seasons of tweaking things and the rules, there still seems to be plenty of confusion between everybody on what is legal/illegal or legit or not. Better communication, planning and such are needed prior to next season. That being said though, I'll still be watching because I love watching the sport in spite of the refs or whatever else. -
I don't know, I went into the room over the weekend just to rest and saw somebody in there doing situps and work on his boxing technique for a while. He says it helps him get in good shape, along with shredding some pounds, so I thought it'd be worth a try for me to get into. I never thought about working out in such conditions until I saw him do it for a while. I've done it the past few days and I've felt really good after both mentally and in a physical sense. Plus I just really try to push and challenge myself pretty hard, just my mental nature. If it doesn't produce the results I think I'll get where it's not beneficial, I'll stop it eventually.

Forgive me for sounding like a jerk, but some of our posts about officiating, generally speaking, are starting to get a little bit ridiculous. Yes, I understand the Wings getting eliminated is hard to deal with and we wanted them to be in the Finals. Yes, I understand there is frustration with referees and that they have been inconsistent. I’m definitely not denying that. It’s not like the people are out there beating the crap out of each other with sledgehammers or shooting each other with handguns. I’m sorry, I just don’t get all that worked up share as much outrage concerning this (no I am not trying to sound like or imply I am better than others because of this, and please don’t assume that I am any less off a fan because I might not share or show as much passion or emotion as other fans). Is the officiating perfect? Not even close. And no, I’m not saying it’s a crime to talk about it or be critical of it at all, but is it as bad as we are portraying in here? I don’t think so. Inconsistent officiating has always been part of the NHL pre-lockout and post-lockout, and it will probably always be this way. That is just a fact of hockey life for better or worse (mainly worse I know). I just don’t see officiating as something or an excuse that is just completely ruining or killing the NHL or Finals or embarrassing hockey altogether for the rest of mankind. I’m just trying to see the glass half-full. Refereeing is not going to drive the NHL or the ratings away downhill anytime soon (or anything else for that matter). I can tell you from personal experience, that refereeing ANY SPORT on the court/field of action is difficult. I’ve refereed both basketball and soccer games back in college for a few years which young adults have played in. Needless to say, fairly fast paced action and a lot of things happen all at the same time. There is just so much to try to react to and consider, every second of a game. You see more on TV or in the stands at a game as opposed to on the court/ice/field. That’s just a plain, simple fact. Referees cannot be in the stands though. It is impossible to manage 10 or more multiple people on the court or ice at the same time when a body or two is just 3 feet in front of you and you are trying to see EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. Almost every call/non-call I’ve made has been criticized and people have called for my head as well. IT’S HARD WORK AND A DIFFICULT JOB. So, I ask, at the very least, to just try to understand this and give them a shred of sympathy? Again, I speak from some personal experience even though it is not hockey-related and I am coming from a more general standpoint with officiating. We watch hockey and we watch the Finals IN SPITE OF the Wings getting eliminated or the inconsistent officiating. The first two games have not been torturous and dramatically bad as some posts in here are out to make it to be. Not even close. Let’s get over whatever bitterness we might have with the refs or the Ducks or whatever else and just watch these last few games, all of us. I don’t think that’s too difficult of a request to ask. *Straps flame suit on* -
Lidstrom is lazy and he sucks.

So I guess the Ducks leading the league in penalties, the Red Wings having a fair amount of 5-on-3 PP attempts last series against the Ducks, and Ottawa having 11 PP opportunities in 2 games against the Ducks so far don't count then.... Nomination for the most illogical post this month.

Basically now my overall workouts/get in shape routine tries to consist of the following as long as my schedule isn’t out of what and I’m in a normal routine with work and personal life… Try to work out early in the morning 3 out of 4 days during the week around 5:30am, consisting of 20 minutes of hard jogging/running on the treadmill, 15 – 20 minutes of upper body weightlifting (time pending), and working out in a fully heated sauna (at least 175 degrees Fahrenheit, probably around 200) for about 20 – 30 minutes doing as much stretching, sit ups, leg lifts, leg raises, arm/bench pushups as I can, and some light interval jogging without over exhausting myself early from the high heat, because it can definitely wear on you quickly. I rarely workout at night, that’s the time for my body to rest. Perform a spinning class Friday evenings for about an hour, and then go in the sauna for some more workout time if I have the energy or go in there to rest the body. Sometimes I lift weights after spinning if I have the juice, sometimes I don’t. I don’t lift before spinning due to having to grab bike handlebars, want my arms to be loose, etc. Over weekends, I try to bike outdoors around 20 miles once, and one day of outdoor running during the weekend of about 4 – 5 miles. If I’m not too busy and I have the energy, I’ll lift weights or work out some in the health club sauna. So, I try to do a lot, and it’s pretty demanding at times with work and a fairly long commute time and such. Sometimes my body will just say no, especially with one of my knees that will never be 100% ever again due to an ACL and MCL tear about three years ago. However, I just try to keep one main thought in my head that it’s only roughly 1 – 2 hours of wear and tear on the body a day. I have the other 22 – 23 hours of the day to rest the body with little wear and tear. But recently switching from working out in the evenings to the early morning time has served me well, as well as recently starting to exercise in the sauna. Since last Thursday, the only day where I haven’t done much physical activity was on Saturday, and I was outdoors for a good chunk of that day playing golf, so it’s not like I was lying around being a lazy slob. Nobody will mistake me for being an athlete or a cross country runner anytime soon, but I’m really starting to see a difference lately in my physical appearance, slowly starting to get more toned and I’m not getting gassed out after just 10 minutes of exercise. I really feel my physical stamina and endurance really starting to increase more. My mental attitude is changing as well, wanting to exercise and wanting to fight through the hard jogs or the high heat. Everybody’s body is different, but from what I have recently been doing exercising, I’ve never felt more disciplined and determined from a physical and mental standpoint as I have recently, not so much from the weight losing aspect, but in being fit overall. I feel much more determined than I was when I dieted and lost a lot of weight a few years ago. I’ll never be the most physical person or fastest guy out there in my lifetime. But, at least for now, I have that mentality that I will never, ever quit or give up. Hopefully that will stay with me for a long, long while.

I definitely understand your point of view with elitism, and that perception is impossible to deny unfortuantely. I speak of this very loosely and in an extremely generic sense, but I often sense this type of behavior in Canadians looking down on U.S. knowledge of hockey, and northern states and hockey fans looking down on fans in more of the southern states. Again, I know and am not trying to portray all Canadians or northern hockey fans like this. Maybe some of us, myself included, should maybe reconsider how we would have address the non-fans quoted in this article. The Ducks vs. Kings final reference, I can let slide even though it should be second nature to recognize that these teams either play in the same conference or play each other on a regular basis (and would never meet in a SCF). But at the same time, when you think Minnesota is in Canada, that has nothing to do with lack of hockey general knowledge. I hate to sound disrespectful, but that reference is just a lack of common sense.

Personally I think Hased got Hosed on that one. *shrugs*

Getting Barnaby years and years ago? Perhaps. Now, no thanks. Hopefully he can get pr remain completely healthy again to close out whatever career in professional hockey he might have left, but his playing days are close to being numbered I think.

I'm indifferent on Maltby re-signing. It definitely wouldn't have killed me if the Wings and Maltby parted ways, I wish we could see some more offensive punch from Maltby, but we all know that's not his main job. There should always be an appreciation for hard skating and hard work, whether you score 50 goals in a season or just 5.

It's defiintely a great idea to me! I'd welcome Kozlov back to the Red Wings in a heartbeat.

Forgive me if I sound like a snobbish jackass here, but the Ducks playing the Kings in the Finals when the teams are pretty much just 10 feet away from each other? Minnesota is in Canada? That is just seriously pathetic and downright embarassing to read and hear about. Timmy from South Park is even smarter than the people who were asked these questions. I know what was quoted by NHL.com doesn't include the opinions/thoughts of all Duck or King fans, Californians, or fair-weather sports fans in California or any other state, but still, that's just so sad how those questions were answered.

I’m going to try to soften my stance up against enforcement some as I was strongly opinionated on one end of the extreme, perhaps a bit too much in my earlier posts. I apologize for this being a bit lengthy and probably re-hashing some of my earlier points. I understand the need that an enforcer brings to a team and to the NHL and I don’t think that the role is completely and utterly useless, and I am not 100% completely against bringing an enforcer to the table for the Red Wings. If the Red Wings can get one and he can provide enough of an impact for the team, great, both the team and the fans alike win. I just think that the role of an enforcer is extremely overblown, especially in here, even in spite of the Wings being “soft†prior to the trade deadline and normally being labeled that in the recent past. I attended a Wings game live in December this season when they hosted St. Louis. I cannot recall the exact incident but I remember one of the Wings got hit hard in some fashion, and the puck dropped after the player was attended to, and nothing happened. Believe me, it would have been nice for one of the Wings players to stick up for the fallen teammate, and I was wishing for it to happen as well that game, but after the game ended I wasn’t getting my panties worked up in a bunch about the situation. I highly doubt that an enforcer would not have prevented that incident from happening at that moment in time. In my honest opinion, enforcers are just a minute part of the game to me that doesn’t have as much effect in the result of a game in terms of a win/loss as some in here believe it does. Is enforcement significant? Yes, to a certain and small extent with momentum swings and such, but it is greatly overhyped. This is just one example, but remember when the Avalanche obtained Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne and had ridiculous amounts of offensive talent with Sakic, Hedjuk, and Forsberg, etc. that one recent season? Enforcer Peter Worrell was included in that mix. He barely did squat for the Avalanche that season. I know he was injured some that season, but still, with all due respect to Worrell for playing hockey professional, you see where I am going with my argument… While the Wings don’t have an enforcer still, the Wings are soft no more, they got tougher and grittier after the trade deadline, and they weren’t afraid to throw their body around after the trade deadline and in the postseason. They could equally dish out as many hits as the opposition, as many postseason games attested. Would obtaining an enforcer be nice, warm, and fuzzy? Sure, I wouldn’t mind it. But nobody will ever accurately convince me that just one enforcer out of 18 skaters (19 including a goalie) will truly help next season in the grand scheme of things. Is obtaining one extremely critical and should it be a top priority? Not in this fan’s opinion.

Well, day #2 of the sauna experiment was successful. I was able to work out in it at my health club for about a half hour early this morning before work. I wish I remember to ask one of the instructors there how hot their sauna room gets. It was on full blast and I was seriously feeling it after a short while. Typiclally, a sauna room temperature can be anywhere from 176 - 212 degree Farenheit, or so it says from this page. http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2005/HimtangWong.shtml It also says that sauna rooms typically aren't all that humid, and it is comparable to working out in hot summer heat with high humidity. Both days I felt the heat in there pretty good, but it wasn't just overbearing or stifling me from minute #1. My guess is the sauna room at my health club had to be around 200 degrees. I was really feeling it today though because I went in the room almost immediately after running pretty hard on the treadmill for 20 minutes, about 2 1/2 miles. It sounds unbearable, but you can still push yourself hard in there even though the temperature is out the wazoo. Just pace yourself and don't over-exert immediately, and make sure you have a cold water fountain nearby or a cold water bottle in the room. Even though it is hot in there, if the bottle is cold, it will still take a good while for it to warm up. If you want to lose weight and feel like you are getting your body toned, stretch and work out in a sauna room for 20 - 30 minutes most days. It is something I am definitely going to keep up at with a lot of focus.

We shall see. I'm just trying to get an idea of who the poster would suggest of getting for Kronwall, since he apparently wants him traded. As for me personally, I never meant that I wanted Kronwall traded or didn't like him. I don't think it was a bad re-signing at all, at least yet. I refuse to believe that Kronwall will get another long-term injury and keep having bad breaks. He's not going to be "Nick Jr." or a superstar defenseman by next season, but I think I like what this kid can do.
