How do you know this after just 1 game?

    assortment of Duck fan comments

I beg to differ and will play devil's advocate here. Ranting about officiating is up there as one of the top LGW reasons whenever the Wings lose, along with "insert Lang/Samuelsson/Lilja joke here" or Osgood is a piece of junk.

Wings are too old, too slow, too soft, too small...Sharks in 5 Now seriously... hiuDUCKSfan, I give you some good kudos for some good posts in here so far, I wish you are part of a majority of Duck fans. I haven't checked out many responses/posts in here over the past few days, but the ones that I have grazed across and some of the e-mails I have been getting on new topics created by Duck fans, they have been pretty bad on the Internet tough guy talking approach or trolling. Unforutnately I haven't seen too many bright Duck fans come across here so far. I'm glad you are one of better ones.

So much for Versus in HD.

Quoted for truth. While I'm not denying games in HD are damned nice to watch, at least most of us are still able to watch the damn game, high definition or not.

Versus Lead-in to WCF game 1

Versus could not be showing any hockey right now you know. I'll live with the "painful inconvenience" of little or no pre-game show as long as a game is being shown.

FSN Not covering any more games?!?!

As stated a few times already I think in here, this has always been the norm, for all local/regional affiliated broadcasts once the Conference Finals hit. It's just that Versus isn't as accessible as ESPN. Hopefully that will change in time. That's up to Versus and local cable providers to make the channel more available in your area. If I was a local up there, I'd prefer to watch in on FSN Detroit, but as long as it is being shown, that's enough for me. I just want to watch the game, commentary/annoucing is secondary and rarely bothers me. Yes, it is inconvenient if VS isn't carried by your cable provider, and it is hard times in terms of spending dollars up there. But with the Detroit area being a great sports town, you're going to find the game on at a restaurant or bar nearby. It may be annoying but it's not torturous, just take a short drive and have a beer or two and watch the game there or at a friend's house. At least most have been able to watch FSN Detroit in comfort, what about some of the Wings fans, or any hockey fan in general outside a hockey market, that had only Versus to watch, or even just NBC on weekends.....

    Today's full, actual roster

Not that I am advocating or hoping for injuries, but if the wingers, for whatever reason or another, get short, would guys like Hussey or Bootland get call ups then?

Burnside: ANOTHER Article About the Wings

We are too old... We are too slow... We are too soft... No wait........wait a minute, who's that in the Western Conference Finals and which (young/fast/gritty) teams did that one team beat to get in the WCF? Oh gosh, I'm such a dumbie.

    Shanahan wants to stay

Drat I got caught. Your right? Come on now, this isn't law we're talking about. Instead of saying my right, I am going to then say it is of my opinion, not just as a Wings fan but as your ordinary Joe Blow on the street that has some hockey I.Q., that I strongly, strongly disagree with saying good riddance to a guy who helped this organization to 3 Cups, never did anything quirky or awkward off the ice to give him any bad publicity to the fans, and so forth. I'm sorry, but you are wrong here. (And please for the love of god let's not turn this into a Shanny vs. Fedorov thread on how they left, that was not my intention of this post and we have beaten this topic senless at least 6 or 700 times).

The Luckiest Day of My Life!

Lucky SOB! That's awesome! :beerbuddy: If the Wings get to the SCF this year (knock on wood), even though the prices are insane, I might drain my wallet to try to get tickets if one of their games is lucky to fall on a Saturday so I get away with a road trip from work. Either that, or I'd want to attend the celebration parade (knock on wood again ).

    Selanne...Selanne...ZETTERBERG

And nobody is going to get 76 goals a season again anytime soon. Not to take anything away from Selanne at all, he's one helluva player, but that was accomplished in a different NHL, less emphasis on defense, more open game etc. The "new" NHL now kinda goes back to this style, but I doubt you will see many names score 60+ goals a season, even 50 - 60 goals, on a regular basis. Back to the main topic at hand, I don't think this is too fair of a comparison, if we are talking about the age of both. If Selanne was Zetterberg's age right now in the late 20s, I'd take Selanne in a heartbeat. Now though, I'd go with Zetterberg, as Selanne is coming close to the end of his career in all likelihood. That doesn't mean he's stinking up the joint by any stretch of the imagination. Selanne is still a very dangerous player as he nearly netted 50 this year. Both will be very important to their teams in this series.

    Shanahan wants to stay

Good riddance because he wants to play with the Rangers for a 2nd year and because he's not with the Red Wings anymore? Wow.................. I remember when a big majority of posters in here waiting for him and Wings management to move in different directions (ultimately Shanahan), and be very happy when that happened over the summer. I mean, heaven forbid he do what he wants to do with his life and career. No, he should do what us fans tell him to do. Look I appreciate Shanny for all he did for the Wings in nearly 10 years, he's a helluva player, and I love the Red Wings. But life is not all about the Wings 24-7-365.

Hasek and Chelios will be asked to re-sign with Wings

They both want to keep playing, bring 'em back. Two very hard working and mentally tough NHLers, even though they are "over the hill". Although if the Wings are able to win it all this year (knock on wood), I'm betting Hasek hangs them up.

    Is re-signing Maltby 3-yrs a BIG MISTAKE?

Big mistake? Nah, not really. It wouldn't have killed me if Maltby and the Wings parted ways. He doesn't find the net all that much anymore. The deal didn't excite me all that much in either a positive or negaitve fashion, but... He wasn't going to command and out-of-whack salary to begin with, he's still very good on a checking line and killing penalities, and he rarely takes a shift off and skates hard.

Top Ten Red Wing plays so far.......Pick 'em

    1. Cleary's penalty shot goal 2. Franzen's 2OT goal clinching the Calgary series 3. Lidstrom's dive to prevent Mike Grier's goal 4. Schneider's OT winner in the Sharks series game 4 5. Cleary's hit on Phaneuf/Draper's 2nd goal of thE Calgary series game 3 6. Datsyuk's early goal in the Calgary series game 2 7. Lang's goal with 1/2 minute left of Sharks series game 4 forcing OT 8. Holmstrom's mid-air PP goal of Sharks series game 4 9. Chelios's short handed goal in the Calgary series game 5 10. Samuelsson's snap shot in the Sharks series game 6 (If there was a sequence of events, Hasek's shutout in the Sharks series game 6 would probably go up somewhere between 2-5)

    Smyth or Bertuzzi?

Both A few years ago, I'd probably take Bertuzzi over Smyth in a heartbeat. Not so much now though. However, the Wings aren't picking up Smyth anytime soon, and it's not like I'm throwing rocks and having a temper tantrum for the Wings trading for Bertuzzi. Hell, they gave up very little to get him, and he has the size. Hopefully he can put it together a little more during the Conference Finals. I wouldn't mind trying to re-sign him to a short-term deal.

    Fans where are you

I haven't read through all the replies and pages, but I'll throw in my 2 pennies... It's not hard to figure out why Wings games are having a hard time selling out unfortuantely, no need to rehash those points as they've been beaten to death with 20 different 2 x 4's. It is what it is... It's kinda interesting actually to read and learn how much a lot of people in Detroit are Michigan are struggling right now with the poopy economy; my neck of the woods is obviously still struggling in the rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina overall, it's frustratingly slow in a lot of places, but there is progress. And I try to compare the Wings situation to the situtaion of the New Orleans Saints, if there can be such an accurate comparison. Anyways, the New Orleans Saints this year was THE stress reliver for plenty of people down here. The Superdome sold out all eight games, plus there was an extra playoff game, even with our population in New Orleans and the immediate Gulf Coast being crippled from Katrina. While the Saints finally started winning again, a lot of that had to do with a brand new coach, a new QB in Drew Brees, and of course drafting RB Reggie Bush to top it all. I can guarantee you that if Bush didn't fall into the Saints lap and the Saints didn't sign Drew Brees, we would have been having the same problems down here with not as many rears in the seats as we'd like as is the current problem at JLA. Things just worked out for the Saints beyond everybody's wildest imagination, and they won finally. I think people down here have been so stressed out this past year and a half that people just wanted to have some semblence of relaxation, regardless of how much a single ticket or season tickets cost.
