Is Every Canadian Sports Station Against Wings?
SouthernWingsFan replied to KrazyGangsta's topic in General
Come on daft_davy you know if somebody doesn't pick the Wings to win, they are 'disrespected' and the person doesn't know jack squat about hockey right, espeically if he or she is a professional analyst or journalist or somebody in a related field or career. You know this right?!?!?!?! Quit fighting the trurth and come back to mainstream reality here!!!!!! /sarcasm -

First off, I don't expect this team to just cower out and hand over this series to the Ducks. That won't happen and if it did, I'd be really disappointed. I know it's been Cup or get the Finals or the season is a bust for a lot of people, either within the Wings organization or fans or wherever else, over the past few seasons. What about throughout the entirety of this season, amist a lot of changes and uncertainty? I think we would be hard pressed to find a majority of fans to think the Wings could have made it this far, this season, with all the changes. It's not a lack of faith or no confidence thing, I'll always be supportive, but I honestly thought the Wings, while they would still make the playoffs, would be 5/6/7 seed, somewhere around there. I don't want them to stop playing now obviously, but the Wings have definitely exceeded my expectations already this season, and they have a realistic chance of going to the SCF if they continue to play hard and put the effort forth against Anaheim. Regardless of the outcome of this series, I'm proud of this Wings team for doing better than expected, and I hope they can continue to play this way over the next 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. :beerbuddy:

Anybody know why NBC, at least for now, isn't broadcasting the Conference Finals on Saturday and Sunday? Just being a curious doof. As long as it is on TV, I could care less if it is on NBC or VS, I don't care about particular broadcasters, etc. I just want to see the game. Actually, it's probably better that game 2 isn't on TV until Sunday evening as I am part of hosting a crawfish boil at my house for Mother's Day in the afternoon. Can probably watch the game and not play host as much during the evening with most of the crowd leaving in all likelihood.

Anyone else care that badly? You want a shiny medal for pointing that out? *shrugs*

For the most part I consider myself understanding/mellow both on here and in 3-d land, but I definitely have my moments where/when you don't want to talk to me, and you've seen me have some moments on here as well. 3-D land bad SWF moments... Calling me on the phone just to 'talk' and tying me up for like 20 minutes. I appreciate the call, but I'm not a phone talker and got othrer things to do. You want to talk to me, come to my house or let's grab lunch or a drink somewhere. Almost anytime when I am driving with idiot drivers. Technology not working at the office when it (or at least when I think it) should. Making me get up over and over again when I am comfortable on my chair or sofa. That's about it more/less, don't want to get the thread sidetracked.

Ah, that makes sense even though we as hockey fans might not agree with it or want it to happen. A lot of golf broadcasts are 4 - 5 hours long I think, and they'd start around 1, 2, or 3:00 normally to get as much action in before sunset. Not really logical to play a hockey game at 11:00am ET for TV purposes, just too taxing on players and for fans out west. Plus, the The Players Championship is one of the better tourneys of the year and TPC at Sawgrass is an insanely awesome course. Again, I wish this wasn't the case and it would be nice for hockey to be on NBC this weekend, but I understand where NBC is coming from in this scenario.

I gotta go with a 3-way tie here. Sorry, I know that defeats the purpose of this thread! Hasek, Lidstrom, and Datsyuk

I've rarely come to see Wings fans in here be cocky or arrogant or act like jackasses thinking that the Wings are the greatest thing since Columbus discovered America and that they cannot be beaten. With that said, I absolutely cannot stand cockiness, arrogance, or trash talking, even when it is in good fun on an Internet forum or in real life in a game. I'm more of a quiet, behind-the-scenes guy who wants to do my job and go about my business and celebrate appropriately and quietly when appropriate. If you talk s**t and you or your team loses, your words end up smacking you in the face and you sound like a foolish idiot then. I even hate going to rub it in people's faces, but if somebody acts like a little s**t and loses, I'll be the first one to tell that person something like "I told you so." I played a lot of pickup basketball back in college, especially the summer before I graduated. I got into a lot of games with athletes from my school's football team and men's and women's basketball team. Not too surprisingly, some talking and jabbering here and there. I would have none of it though, because while I have some decent basketball I.Q. and coordination, and I definitely kept up with them through sheer will/hustle, diving for balls etc. and making an infrequent jumper or garbage goal/layup, I was not an inkling close to their talent level. Me talking crap would've made me sound really, really foolish.

Detroit's Travel vs. Buffalo's Travel
SouthernWingsFan replied to WhiteLightning91's topic in General
Several points/comments... It's a pain in the rear, even on us fans who have to stay up late when they go play in Moutain/Pacific times, but what can ya do? The Wings have been in the Western Conference since the early 90s, so this is nothing new to them. Columbus has the same issues during the regular season, and I can guarantee they'd have as hectic/long a travel schedule in all likelihood if they made the playoffs. Detroit isn't the only team with this issue. Minnesota's closest rivals are either Colorado (Denver) or Calgary. Dallas' closet rival is Phoenix, and I think it's a safe bet that St. Louis and Nashville is a shorter trip from Dallas being in the same time zone. So, with overall travel throughout the year, Dallas and Minnesota probably have it worse than the Wings. Dallas had lengthy travel to Vancouver in the 1st round. If they went deep in the playoffs, they would have just a hectic travel schedule as Detroit is currently having. Nobody from the Eastern Conference has traveled out of their time zone for the playoffs. The majority of teams in the NHL reside in the Eastern Time Zone (17 of 30), so nobody from there is ever going to have to leave their time zone in the playoffs until the SCF, unless those teams happen to be either Detroit or Columbus, assuming teams and alignment stay the same for the future. -
Overall for the first 12 games...Lilja, Cleary, Maltby, Flipper, and Franzen without much question... Recently these past few games...Samuelsson and Holmstrom

Seeing Samuelsson get his first playoff goal put a huge smile on my face. I'm well aware and don't ignore his weaknesses of shooting a bit too much when the shots are unscreened etc., but I think he's actually played a fairly solid series, physical to some extent, and trying to create some chances, even though some are wasted in typical Samuelsson fashion. Let's raise a :chug: to Samuelsson!

*Gasp* ZOIKES! Melrose didn't pick the Wings! What a moosefart dumb blockhead of a sports analyst! /sarcasm Who cares? It's called a prediction from a sports analyst who gets paid to do what he does. It means nothing. How about we don't get riled up over something so miniscule? Heaven forbid the Wings aren't picked by everybody and that the Ducks are going to be a formidable opponent. (And yes I am aware that Melrose rarely goes with the Wings on predictions)
-
NO! I'm still scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hasek does owe him a drink, and the entire team owes Hasek a few drinks or two after his brainfart because he completely shut the door and was absolutely superb after that. So I guess the team and Hasek are all even.
-
Doesn't really matter to me one iota if sports analysts pick the Ducks to win, no need to get all up in arms upset about it. That's one of their jobs is to make predictions. And that's why games are played on the ice/playing court/field, not on a sports analyst's piece of paper or message board of a sports forum.

Different team, different personnel than the team Babcock had in 03-04 in Anaheim. In 03-04 the Ducks were pretty much a one-trick pony line. Any scoring coming from a line outside Kariya on it was a bonus. Now, in my opinion, the Ducks can still play that trapping style I think, but they can open up the offense when needed.

SJ Fans.. What Happened to the sweep?
SouthernWingsFan replied to Shark_is_Delicious's topic in General
Samadelphia?!?!?! Where are you? To all other Shark fans that have come in here, I do not boast/brag to any of you. Was a hard-fought series both ways, if the Sharks could've had some bounces (and some calls) the series could have resulted differently. Wings fans, we have to admit it, even if it is a shred. As much as we whine about the officiating, we got some calls going our way this series, especially late....namely the chicken-poop interference call on Grier leading to a PP goal, and the roughing call on Hannah this evening. Keep your heads up Sharks fans and keep working, you all have a very solid team, this series/elimination doesn't change that. -
Samuelsson - Time to give the guy some kudos
SouthernWingsFan replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Samuelsson is GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /overembelished and overdramatic post -
Just is what it is unforutnately. A bad economy and high ticket prices are going to keep people back. And Wings fans can make fun of our own fan base all we want about how Wings fans might not be the loudest/roudiest consistently throughout the year, but even though none of the playoff games have sold out, from what I have seen (minus game 1 of this series) the crowd has been into the games for nearly the entire time, making noise, etc. So even though JLA isn't getting sold out, doesn't mean that there is less interest. Wings fans that are able to go to the games are still showing their support, as well as fans just watching from the tele, etc.
