The NHL needs to do something about Officiating
SouthernWingsFan replied to regwinguofmfan's topic in General
Sorry if this sounds harsh people but.... Something needs to be done about a lot of members in here about complaining about the officiating 20 hours a day everyday, with a 4 hour rest period. Can we all pllease just give it a rest? Referees don't win/lose hockey games for you. If they are calling a lot of penalties, it's up to your PP and PK to win games for you then, not the refs. -
That's just so wrong! I nearly just spit out my coffee there! :rotflmao:

Lets give credit to players that had a great series

Terry Tate, starring as Andres Lilja says... -
LMAO at the woman in the jacket at the far right with her fists pumping. Too funny.

Good, Holland should have flipped his lid. I'm glad he did. Some of the things that a few of the Flames players did near the end of the game were an absolute joke.
-
Pretty much this is all he said in the Associate Press recap. No other quotes I can find/refer to by Iginla. http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&am...&gameType=3 Believe me, I've seen a few in here defend Flames actions yesterday. I guess that's a bit unfair to mable label a few Flames fans and mesh them into all. But until your post, I haven't seen any Flames fans in here say that some of their actions yesterday in the 3rd were inexcusable.

Good to see some faithful in Calgary not completely be homers. To the Flames fans in here, I'll say it over and over again...I love how your team plays aggressive, I like how they are physical, I love the atmosphere in your home building at the Saddledome, but you cannot justify most/all of the Flames actions in the 3rd period yesterday. You can't. And I think Iginla's post-game comments disturb me more than the McClennan baseball swing slash on Franzen. Not a good choice of words IMO.

Post-GAME 5: Red Wings 5, Flames 1 (4/21)
SouthernWingsFan replied to BlakChamber's topic in General
Probably been posted in here already, but Iginila's post game quotes have really gotten under my skin. And I don't get all that pissy and I stay relatively calm when watching sports/reading sports blurbs, even during playoffs. If not, check out NHL.com or some Assoc. Press recap of the game today and you should see what he said. -
I would be just as stunned and be in support of a just suspension.

Al righty, this thread might quickly ride off into the sunset, but I thought I'd give it a shot.. I really get a kick out of so much energy is spent on here by people getting so angry at VS and ESPN when it realtes to hockey. I know a lot of locals would probably prefer to watch the games on the local Fox Sports affiliate. I would too as well probably, if I lived in Michigan. But you got to admit somewhat at least that Versus has been extremely busy with the hockey coverage in the playoffs so far. Action every night, and multiple games pretty much every night as well. Sure, I'd like to see games back on ESPN where it's more easily accessible on regular cable for all across the country, but hockey was almost always playing second/third fiddle to baseball and basketball during this time of the year. ESPN wasn't going to give the NHL such dedication. I know Versus broadcasts other sports, fishing, UFC and the like, but I think it's safe to assume that hockey, for now on their network at least, is top dog or close to it. If you are just looking at broadcasts on this station in a 1-3 year window, it's easily to be critical of the decision by Bettman to do this to a station that not many people have heard of. Hell, I haven't heard of VS (Outdoor Life Network at the time) before I heard the NHL will be broadcasting games. But I think they are doing a solid job now. It's a long term decision. Hopefully over the next few 3-5 years, that network can do a good job of promoting itself and it can become more popular and more accessible to homes higher up in the channel lineup. Here's to Versus and their dedicaated coverage of the sport so far. :beerbuddy:

Good god FC, I'm glad everybody is all right and you still have what is most important to you...your family. As much as the Wings are important to each and every one of us and we want to see them win, sometimes we all need to take a step back and realize there are more important things in life. Let's go Wings (.com ), and let's go FireCaptain's family! :beerbuddy:

I'm interested in wandering if/how Calder got into Babcock's dog house. He hasn't been a superstar by any stretch of the imagination, but he hasn't just flat out been awful. I want Rex to remain in and I'd prefer Calder in the lineup over Samuelsson, but Samuelsson had a decent game today and threw his body around to an extent. His long/unscreened shots are annoying, but just trying to give Sammy some credit and love when he's almost always roasted on here.

Yeah, body poop normally means extra weight.

Let's give Versus a little love here

Also an interesting tidbit I forgot to mention in my original post... Versus also broadcasts college football games from the Mountain West Conference. Just another example of how they are trying to become a bit more competitive and "mainstream". I don't recall them broadcasting much, if any, college basketball games from the MWC. My alma mater is in the MWC, so it's double-goodie on VS for me. They'll never trump ESPN, but hopefully the NHL and some college broadcasts can increase it's popularity to more casual sport watchers. -
9 surgeries? Ouch. I can relate to the knee problems. I blew my ACL and MCL out playing basketball back in college, had surgery on it about 3 years ago. In pick up ball over my 5 years there, I broke my foot, sprained my ankle, and tore my ACL/MCL, all in one leg. Needless to say, I'm retired from basketball and should probably just cut my left leg off. I miss playing it though, it was a blast to play. Anyways, the ACL/MCL injury was obviously the worst of the three and it still gives me problems today. It doesn't inhibit me from doing any exercise or anything like that, but if somebody runs into me or a bump knees with somebody else, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes out again. If I have an intense workout or go for a spinning class, I usually end up limping for a while until my knee gets some feeling back. I really can't do much in the way of fast runs/sprints anymore. I can jog for long stretches though without problems as long as I don't go too fast. It's all about having the mental discipline to do things in spite of your body. I can't imagine how difficult it can be to exercise though after 9 surgeries!

Samuelsson, I try to give him the benefit of the doubt as much as possible on here when he gets roasted, but if Hudler plays and if Calder is scratched over him, I'll definitely be scratching my head and pondering that move.

a disturbing stat for the wings since 2002

How so? -
Then don't take this stuff so seriously if it enrages you. Seriously, trying to go on a 1-against-100 fight to change people's minds who might have doubts by beamoaning them and sounding condescending? It's not worth the time and effort, you're not going to change everybody's opinions. I'd like to think you can spend your time better and in a more healthy way. Anyways, I wish Calder could have gotten more PT, but on a 4th line with a rookie and Samuelsson who hasn't been all that effective. No matter how good Flipper has been doing so far, his ice time will still be limited being so young, for better/worse. Lang getting more PT last game, despite everybody up in arms with him, paid off. Him with Franzen and Bertuzzi was the best line for the Wings on Thursday.

ALWAYS eat breakfast, no matter how much/little you way. Never skip it. It's the best meal of the day and I would seriously eat a small breakfast for all 3 meals if allowed.

Change of Pace: Slava Kozlov
SouthernWingsFan replied to LionsAndRedwingsAndPistonsOhMy's topic in General
At the time, the Wings just had to trade him to Buffalo for Hasek. As much as I like Kozlov, you can't just pass at what seemed to be a not-so-difficult attempt to get Hasek a few seasons ago. With that being said, I'd take Kozlov back in a haertbeat in a 2nd/3rd line role. He almost always came up big in the playoffs. -

Seriously, chill with the font. We could hear you even if you were posting from Tokyo. -
I'm not one of those rowdy or rah-rah-sisk-koom-bah kinda people so I'm not going to ask whoever is going to the game to act loud or nuts, but at that very least show some faith and be positive, because the negative posts in this forum these past few days has become a joke.

Asset, even at 45. His play on the ice attests to that.

Geezum.... Again......Calgary must prove that they can win on the road. They haven't done that so far. The schedule means very little right now. If you've had it, you don't have to watch then.
