    STAY POSITIVE

Way to stick with the whole purpose of the thread. Even when the Red Wings are still leading in the series. Good fricken' grief. I'd hate to see what reality is in your world! How do you know this when 3 games have only been played and it's not unusual for any team, not just the Detroit Red Wings, to lose a series after leading 2 games?

    Robert Lang

I always have given Lang the benefit of the doubt when he gets ridiculously roasted on here, but he's just really going downhill. Pretty frustrating to watch but in the grand scheme of things, I think he brings more to the table than Samuelsson.

    Kal suggests Franzen-Filppula-Bertuzzi

I'd love to see this combo. Franzen and Bertuzzi have some limited experience together so it could work. Franzen would be the chase car, Flipper could supply the good all-around game with some skill level, Bertuzzi can create space for the both of them or make plays if he has the space and open ice. I really hope this means Hudler doesn't sit if Bertuzzi is definitely back tonight. I try to give Samuelsson the benefit of the doubt more often than not beacuse he gets roasted on here pretty good, but Hudler has played better than him lately, in these first two playoff games, and for most of the end of the regular season, not including Samuelsson's 5-point performance in the season finale. And I know Lang gets ripped on a lot, and deservedly so to an extent, but his line has been very good when Hudler and Calder are the wingers. Makes more the sense to keep Hudler in.

NHL Center Ice during playoffs question

Cox is my cable provider as well where I'm from and I'm not getting the Center Ice games. Interesting.......

    Nashville or San Jose?

Nashville, partly because the Wings seem to match up well with them, and partly because I'm starting to dislike their team more and more for the way some of their guys play the game. Cheap shots and the like. Sorry to the Predators fans that routinely post in here and that I have plenty of respect for, but I'm just liking your team less and less. That doesn't mean though that I fear San Jose because they might play a "physical" style of hockey. If the Wings advance past Calgary and have to play them, bring 'em on. I'd rather worry about taking care of business against Calgary first, because even though the Wings are up 2-0, this series is FAR FROM OVER. The Wings have been on both ends of the spectrum in this scenario (blowing series against Colorado in '99 and Los Angeles in '01, and winning against Vancouver in '02), so it is extremely wise not to get ahead of ourselves.

NHL Center Ice during playoffs question

Correct my friend with the Red Game Day Thong. I got home a while ago and tried to tune into the Rangers/Thrashers game for a few while I was making dinner, but no avail. I have to subscribe apparently to my cable service provider. Whether that means forking out cash, I don't know. Wouldn't think that would be the case since I already have Center Ice. Ah well, it the Wings weren't on VS all the time, and I wasn't so pre-occupied with things like dinner and cleaning and sorting through mail and making some quick posts in here before the Wings play, I'd put some more effort into seeing what the problem was. Right now though I've just grazed at the non-Wings games on VS while doing a bunch of other things. I don't get riled up by any bad commentary or anything like that, as long as there is hockey on TV, I'll glance at it every now and again. And if it is just on VS, then so be it, that's fine with me.

    Kara Yario suggests...

Damn it edicuius you stole just about all my thunder and ideas for this post! Is this an April Fool’s joke thread that is 16 days late? I’ve probably been one of the minute few in here to give Kara Yorio the benefit of the doubt and not immediately dismissing any of her pieces since she gets treated pretty harshly in here, but this suggestion is borderline insanity. I like the shootout in the regular season, but there are things in sports that should not ever, ever be messed with. That includes sudden death overtime in playoff hockey, overtime in college/professional basketball, and sudden death playoffs in professional golf if multiple golfers have the same score after four rounds on Sunday. Let's take it a bit further to the extreme with those examples quoted... How about if two golfers are tied after four rounds in a PGA Tour tourney, we do a best-of-5 long putt and long drive competition. Tiger Woods and John Daly could rule this scenario. What if, it’s Centre Court in Wimbeldon and the final match between Andy Roddick and Roger Federer, 6-6 after the 5th and final set, and the champion is decided by the hardest 5 serves, instead of the customary and popular tiebreaker game of the first one two seven points by a margin of two? Those suggestions, along with the suggestion of altering playoff overtime to include a shootout, are absolutely ludicrous. Fans of all these sports and leagues would be going ballistic. I can unfortunately imagine it now. It’s the 2015 Stanley Cup Final, and its game 7 between Detroit and Toronto. The score is still tied 3-3 after two overtime periods. But, we’re going to only go into a best-of-three shootout to determine the Stanley Cup winner. Passionate fans from both teams will turn into lunatic, starting riots, I guarantee you. Kara Yorio, you have absolutely lost your marbles writing this article and are a lunatic out of your mind.

    LGW Fit Club

I've been really pushing myself hard these past few days, I've ran nearly 15 miles since Sunday with a busy work schedule to boot. I'm down close to 145 now from 150...trying to get back into the low 140 range. I am really committing myself and pressing myself hard to get this done, and am doing my damnest to eat slightly healthier to get there. Hopefully it won't take that long, and it's going to happen because I am in the "Just do it yourself" mentality right now.

NHL Center Ice during playoffs question

I had Direct TV where I was temporarily displaced to due to the hurricanes in August 2005. I finally got back home in late April of last year to my old residency and have always had digi cable here and am content with it. I don't particularly watch much TV in terms of specific shows or the like, more of a grazer while doing other things around the house. The only time I really need to watch TV is if the Wings come on or my alma mater has any football/basketball games on TV, so actually in the grand scheme of things throughout the year, there's not much need for me to switch, despite me liking Direct TV, not my cable provider offers Center Ice and has VS on it already. If I absolutely have to watch something, I'll go to a sports bar that I know of which pretty much has every Direct TV channel or ask my family to TiVo something from their Direct TV or just go to their place and watch their Direct TV/FSN Sports package on my way home. It just comes to that so little though throughout the year that it's not really worth the switch. *shurgs* I'll check one more time tonight to see if they show the few games on Center Ice here that aren't on VS.

    Glowing Puck

Can anybody give me an honest answer of what was so wrong with the glowing puck/puck tail? Just because it might just tamper with traditon an eensy teeny weeny bit? Seriously, there's a lot worse out their in the NHL. I swear, some people just flip out on trying anything different in the NHL, even minute things like this that don't really affect it's popularity that much. We want the game to be more well-known in this country and for the general public to understand the game more and make it easier for them to watch, yet we flinch over a lot of the attempts to do that because it might affect the status quo. We can't have things both ways.

    The way NBC films games

Off-topic a bit, but I hail from the New Orleans area, been a Wings fan since the mid 90s. I'm not one to throw temper tantrums about broadcasting or filming games, I'm just thankful that they are on TV, wish some here could be as appreciative of that as well. I get a kick out of how much energy is expended in whining about broadcasters of the hockey games, why VS or NBC is disliked, etc. It is something that is taken way too seriously in here by too many people. If I don't like commentary I just hit the mute button. My only light complaint was on the 5-on-3 PP's the Wings had, it was filmed high abve and behind the net. Kinda cool looking, but I had a hard time getting used to that look. Guess my eyes would have to get used to it a bit more as I continue to tune in.

    Sean Avery

Good for Avery. I never liked him with his yapper and controversial b.s. that he spouted off, I'm more of a guy that just wants to do your job and go about your business quietly doing it. I don't like drama and causing unnecessary distractions. That being said, at least for now, he finally looks like he has started to ductape his mouth shut and just focus on his play on the ice. Hopefully he can continue this.

    Kiprusoff

In terms of not doing any Statue of Liberty junk, perhaps... I know you absolutely adore him, but if you mean by flopping around or doing acrobtic stuff to make saves, he's way up on the flashiness scale. Anyways, back to the main topic at hand on Kiprusoff...Kipper has been the only one to show up consistently for the Flames in the first two games. Other than the long rebound goal yesterday, he's been very solid facing a lot of rubber. He's been one of the top-5 goaltenders IMO over the past few seasons for good reason. He's one of the better goalies in the league, give him his fair share of credit.

    Calgary Fans

Game was all but in hand, Wings were winning the game 4-2 (and won 4-2), it was late with probably no more than a minute left, I think CuJo froze the puck, whistle, and Ville came charging in probably at least 2-3 seconds after the whistle blew at full speed. He could've easily hit the breaks for a minimal/no collision.

    Calgary Fans

Well, Ville Niminnen deliberatly went into Curtis Joseph in Game 4 of the 2004 series between the two teams. Joseph didn't have an injury bug but Niminnen didn't do squat to avoid him. Did you not like Niminnen then during his Flame days?

Why don't we just let Bert sit?

It's worked the first two games, but I'd rather not continue to roll the dice and gamble. Games 3 & 4 are in Calgary, where they have a solid home record and you'd think they would crank up the intensity and physical play a notch, especially with trailing 2-0 right now. Bertuzzi can help can match that physical play. He will be needed these next two games.

    Red Wings Special Teams Problems

The powerplay needs to finish some more chances, but it's not like they are dinking around out there just coughing up the puck and the like. With that being said, they had a few 5-on-3 chances to make it 3/4-0 early. You have to bury those to make it almost impossible to come back on. On the flip side though, I'm not incredibly worried about it as the 5-on-5 play these first two games has been very solid against a team known for physical play and if they can keep that up. No worries on the penalty kill, was a goofy deflection goal today and they haven't given Calgary any easy chances short-handed. Bottom line is the Wings have worked extremely hard 5-on-5 and on the penalty kill which has yielded solid wins the first two games. Hopefully the PP will catch up.

    McCarty

The Wings have some toughness on their roster now. You want to debate whether they were tougher or grittier/not tougher or grittier than the days when guys like McCarty, LaPointe, or Konstantinov were around, be my guest, but the brief point is they have guys that aren't afraid to muck it up (Bertuzzi, Markov, Calder, and a few others to a lesser extent in Cleary/Samuelsson/Lilja). Spare the Samuelsson jokes, I don't care if I get roasted on them, I've seen him stick up for a teammates before in games. McCarty will always have a soft place in my heart during his Red Wing years, but he's a shell of his former self on the ice IMO. If he was the McCarty of the late 90s/early 00s, then I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Not now though. That being said, here's a :chug: to McCarty.

Other than one Flame nutball troll, every Flame fan in here has been a good one, and there's been a fair amount of them for this series so far. We're enjoying y'all, always welcome here. :beerbuddy:

J.S. Giguere getting back on ice

http://www.latimes.com/sports/hockey/nhl/d...1&cset=true Apparently he was on the game 2 roster last night for the Ducks (missed most the game so didn't see him on the bench). From the article, whether he will play in the immediate future in the next two games is subjective I think, but it's good to read that it looks like his son's condition is slowly starting to settle down. Family comes first, but hopefully that continues to be the case with his son improving and Giguere can soon get back to focusing on his job without any distractions and get to some normalcy.

    Nashville's Playoff Behaviour

You don't have any room to talk with how difficult the economy is up north unfortuantely. Nashville, as a city, has got it going on pretty well. With that being said, I've loved the couple of times I've been to Michigan and l'll leave it at that, let's keep the talk on hockey and not city comparison. Back to the topic at hand with Nashville in the playoffs. I haven't seen either of their first two games yet. Hartnell, to me, has always played with an aggressive edge, but for the most part under control, in the limited action that I saw Nashville play in the past. Tootoo I have just lost a good amount of respect. It's one thing to play aggressive and be a wrecking ball, but it's another thing to just fly off your skates or sucker punch people from behind (a la Dallas/Robidas incident). The guy crosses that fine line too much for my liking. It's hard for me to defend his play.
