    Playoff Schedule Released?

Sweet! I might be out of town for work on Thursday, but should get back home in time for the evening if the Wings play that evening. Will definitely be home for Friday if they play then. I won't miss game 1 in all likelihood! :beerbuddy:

    Wings vs Flames

Calgary a bad team? More offense than the last time the played the Wings, and still probably can be as physical, and with the same goalie who is pretty solid last time a checked. I find them being a bad team highly unlikely.

Ozzie has had a great year

Let's give Osgood some love here. It's been a shame he's been injured more often than not this season, but in spite of that, when he's been able to get in, he's done very well. You just got to admire a guy like him right now. In my opinion, I think he could be starting on a lot of teams right now and is still very capable of being a decent starter. A lot of guys want to constantly play and dgo for the big bucks. That's not alwys a bad thing obviously, but I think Osgood has made a lot of sacrafices the past two seasons, being in a place he wants to work/make a living in, as opposed to having a good shot at making more money somewhere else. Cheers to Ozzie! :beerbuddy:

    Wings vs Flames

Well, here's hoping that the Flames still struggle on the road on this upcoming series. Will I be shocked if the Wings get eliminated early? No. Past recent history has shown that it is possible unfortunately, and every team from seed 1-8 in the Western Conference is extremely capable of making a deep run, without the hot goaltending theme. When was the last time we've seen so many teams have more than 100 points? Goofy OT loss rule or not, that's impressive. Will I be shocked though if the Wings advance? Of course not. That's their job, and we know what this team is capable of. Still not the most physical or gritty team out there, but it's definitely improved this season, especially at the trade deadline. I like the Wings roster right now, a good, fairly even balance of skill/offense, team defense, and some physical play IMO. I'm going to go with the extremely optimistic half-glass full view. The Flames will continue to struggle on the road with the Wings winning the first two games at home, and the Wings stealing game 4 on the road, and finishing off the series in game 5 winning the series 4 games to 1.

    Hasek and the playoffs

Please don't even compare Legace to Hasek. I like Legace, yes, but he is nowhere near the goaltender Hasek is. Neither is Osgood, and I like Osgood a lot and think he's a very capable starter in this league still (please let's not go into any Ozzie flaming posts). In spite of Osgood's success more often than not against Nashville this season, as long as Hasek is healthy, he's the starter, no if's/and's/buts's. I think Hasek has proven everybody that he is healthy enough to play. Face it, it's difficult to play 80+ games a season injury-free, or for a goalie starter to play 60+ games injury free. He hasn't missed much action and when he has, it's been the nics and bruises type injuries, not his well-known groin issues. As long as Hasek can keep the puck-handling to a minimum (I know he won't though ), I got no problems with him. Hasek's the 'tender, no questions asked.

Wings-Hawks game online at any point?

Greetings all, I'm out of town right now on some vacation (down time right now in the hotel room in some bad weather ). Apparently I'm missing a good Wings blowout right now. I did a random google search at some point recently and found recent video of a Wings-Rangers or Wings-Islanders game (obviously that was already played). I have NHL Center Ice, but no DVR recording or anything like that and my VCR is goofed up, so no game watching. Anybody have any idea if this game will eventually be online at a place such as Google Video or other places and if so, when? If not, no biggie as this game means little in the standings and such. Thanks!

Datsyuk Signs 7-year, $46.9M Contract Extension

I haven't read any of the 25 pages so my apologies if I have re-hasehed anything. For the short-term, and with that I mean this post-season, I actually think this is a good thing. Some might think the pressure on Datsyuk is up even more, I think he's probably on Cloud-9 right now securing his future for the next few years in Detroit (assuming that he wanted to remain here of course). I think he'll play more loose and relaxed now because of this contract. Hopefully, this won't turn into a goofy deal like Yashin where it hasn't amounted to a whole let. On the flip side though, when you have your GM, the Vice President in the name of Steve Yzerman, and other coaches saying that it has to be done to re-sign Datsyuk, you have to trust their words some. So, I am at peace with that. Whether they are wrong or not in 3-4 years and Datsyuk might "underperform", nobody is going to know that obviously until 3-4 years. Based off their words right now though, I'll trust them and be happy. Time will tell whether this is a good deal or a bad one...

    Brodeur's acheivement

Guess is some of the great goalies like Dryden, Sawchuk, or Tretiak played during these times with shootout wins/losses and got shootout wins, their stats would be over-inflated and it wouldn't be as impressive either...

    Where's Hank?

Zetterberg has replaced Waldo over there on the left.

Wings clinch No. 1 Seed in West

So we should all be ashamed and not happy that the Wings won it all in 2002 when they were favored to?

    Brodeur's acheivement

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdispla...?pid%5B%5D=2187 Hasek's 95-96 stats... GP 59 MIN 3417 Goals Against 161 GAA 2.83 W-L-T 22-30-6 Shots 1850 Save %0.920 Good save percentage, but quite the high GAA and a losing record. Very un-Hasek like. Yep, Hasek's never had a bad year ever. Why don't you stop sounding idiotic and get off Brodeur's back whenever have time to stop humping Hasek's leg.

Good grief, that's damn good! You could rival Jared as the poster boy in losing weight.

    Brodeur's acheivement

You don't have a chance to become the all-time winnigest goaltender in league history by mistake. Brodeur is not overrated. End of story. Case closed.

    Thoughts heading into playoffs

All these injuries we hear of now shouldn't really alarm anybody. Just about anybody will have the nicks and bruises type injury after playing a full season of hockey games at a professional level. I have little doubt that everybody will be playing when the playoffs start, that includes Zetterberg. I just read now that Datsyuk re-signed for multiple years. I think this is good. Some may say he has all this pressure on him now even more, but I see it differently. He knows he will be with the Wings for the next few years now, he's probably a happy camper right now, so I say the pressure is off for him and he can play loose and relaxed. I'm tired of everybody fearing to play Calgary. Every team in the WC is capable of making a deep run, every matchup will be a challenge for all teams 1-8, so I just say screw it and let's play some hockey. Will I be surprised if the Wings get eliminated in the first round? Nope. Will I be surprised if they don't? Not at all either, because that's their job to go deep in the playoffs. Cautious optimism this way.

    Interesting about the standings

The way the standings are determined right now is ridiculous. I don't mind seeing shootouts, but you should not get a point, at any time in a game, whenever you lose. 3 points for a win in regulation time 2 points for a win in overtime 1 point for a win in a shootout 0 points for a loss, no ifs/ands/buts Either do it that way or get rid of shootouts alltogether and go to W-L-T where wins are worth 2 points, ties are worth 1 point, a loss is worth 0.

    Wings clinch Central

As most are probably aware, or will be aware by sometime today, the Wings have now clinched the Central division and will be the #1 or #2 seed in the playoffs. We all know that winning the division isn't as important, won't go into an opinion/debate about that because it's been talked about 6 or 700 times in here. Forget about postseason for a few moments though. With the lower expectations set this season for the Wings, in my opinion and in the general sense, to being a low seed or possibly not making the playoffs at all, I think this is a solid accomplishment with all of the uncertainty and change during last offseason and the season starting off a bit slow. Here's to the Wings clunching the division... :chug: And here's hopefully to many more of those drinks if the Wings can win the this year.

Glad to know where your confidence level is......

    Osgood

It's beyond me how this guy gets ridiculously ripped on over and over and over again. Sometimes I wish he wasn't on the Wings next year so none of us are exposed to these retarded threads. OH MY GOODNESS OSGOOD LET IN A QUESTIONABLE GOAL, CUT OFF HIS NOSE!!!!!!!!!! ARGH HE'S WORSE THAN SATAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody in their right minds thinks he is one of the best goaltenders in the league, even his "slappie" fans in here, but it is just a flat out joke the people who just hate him with a passion, how some just act like drama queens thinking he is worst than Greg Goldberg of the District-5 Pee Wee Hockey Team. Osgood's no Vezina candidate anymore, but he is not a bad goaltender, I hate to break it to some of you guys who just cannot stand him. If I invested a dollar for every Osgood bashing thread there has been in here, I'd probably be rich by now... Nobody's compared him to Hall of Fame 'tenders in here lately.

    Osgood

Yeah, I guess those last three wins he got against Nashville THIS SEASON were oh so horrible. Oh my heavens, that means he's been good MORE THAN ONE TIME! What are the odds?!?!?!
  21. SouthernWingsFan

    Osgood

:caution: Saying that he is the worst goalie, including minor leaguers, and saying he lets in soft goals that he can only refer back in the 1998 playoff run (a grand whopping total of 2 or 3), in which he helped win the Cup, is bashing and being just a little bit overdramatic.

    Lidstrom Out

This damn hangnail is killing me, I'm going to sit it out for the night! Seriously though, the last game or two during the regular season usually doesn't amount to a whole lot, so rest up. That's all this is ladies and gentlemen. Nothing more, nothing less. It's probably safe to assume that at least 5 other players probably have injuries of the "nicks and bruises" variety that aren't worth the risk now, but will not keep them out of a playoff matchup.

    We'll be playing Calgary...

I'm really get tired of seeing everybody saying they are so afraid of playing Calgary. I'm never going to sound like a cocky jackass saying the Wings "can't be beaten ever." I'm not a trash talker or anything of that nature anywhere. That being said though, it disturbs me a bit to see that some in here aren't giving us much of a chance playing against Calgary. In a perfect world, yes I would like the Wings to play Dallas, Colorado, or Minnesota in the first round. But it's not going to happen, and every team, 1-8, is a solid team, and it looks like all of them will finish with 100+ points in the standings. Retarded OT point rule or not, that's very impressive. Every game is going to be a dogfight between every team, in every series. That is why I get irked when nobody wants to face Calgary just because they can be "physical". Will I be shocked if Calgary advances? No. Will I be shocked if Detroit does? No, because it's their job... Calgary is going to be a tough matchup, of course. But you know what I say to that? Bring 'em on and let's play some hockey.....

    LGW Fit Club

I'm not very tall, a 5'6"/5'7" male. A few summers ago I weighed around 180. Not a lot mind you, but a fair amount for my height. I just said the hell with it, I'm losing weight and I don't care how long it takes, I'm going to do it. I didn't do any formal diet plan or anything. I went through some ridiculous intense cardio work over a span of about 3 1/2 months. That wasn't too hard though because I usually am an intense individual during workouts, I make myself work hard and such. I just pushed even that little bit harder during this time. Along with eating more grilled food and sandwiches, and I ate very little fast food. Let's face it though, fried food is good, I wasn't going to completely give it up, so I wasn't going to kick myself in the rear for giving myself an infrequent reward. For drinking, I gave up soft drinks for good (and still do) and started to drink red wine instead of beer. Again, I didn't completely give up beer, just an infrequent drink every now and then. Cutting out soft drinks alone helped a lot. Even though water is 'tasteless', it is so good for your health. All I drink now is water, coffee, milk, wine about 2-3 times a week, and a beer every now and then. Performing those sacrafices, along with some intense cardio workout, in a span of about 3 1/2 months I went from 175-180 to roughly 140 pounds. I now weigh around 150 with some added muscle. I'd like to get back to lower 140 eventually, but I'm not incredibly worried about it as I look fairly skinny as it is. So, if a dumb goof like me can lose weight, especially in a city area where food is famous and eating is almost like sport, anybody can lose weight. I haven't "won" or accomplished a lot of things in life physically like winning a lot of sports trophies or such, but I take great pride in knowing that I had both the mental and physical discipline to accomplish something like this.
