    Me eating my crow

His leaving the crease more often than not annoys the hell out of me, but he can't skate any better than your 4-year old niece? That's kinda pushing the drama post button there. Hasek's personality rubs me the wrong way a bit, but if there's always one thing I respected about him, is that he rarely seems to take time of mentally, he just constantly wants to win, be the best, and such. I like his intense mindset. I try to emualte some of that when I'm exercising or working out, always trying to push harder and such.

    Fedorov

I understand the booing, but everybody on all sides on this issue simply need to get over it. I'm over the whole Fedorov leaving thing or even worrying about it, been over it since his first few games with Anaheim. It'd be happy if everybody just shut the f**k up booing him, but there are plenty of other things that piss me off more than life.

    Quincey

Nothing spectacular, nothing terrible either from Quincey these past two games. He has seemed to make very few young brainfarts with turning the puck over and such, no penalties either I don't think, so those are good signs.

What is wrong with Robert Lang?

I wouldn't in any of the recent days or weeks, but this thread has nothing to do with Pavel Datsyuk, so why even bring him up?

    Funny thing that could happen

A Boggle tournament! Or something like that..... 1 or 2, not really going to matter. Every team, 1-8, is going to be in a dogfight in every game. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the Wings will wrap up the division in all likelihood, but it's really starting to irk me that everybody on here fears playing Calgary. Why? Calgary's a tough team, no doubt about it, but the Wings are going to get the same effort and annoyances from other teams just as much as Calgary. Just play the game in spite of the opponent.

    One Point To Clinch Central

Neato... Who would've thought that this would have happened back in December or January with Nashville running away from the division and Anaheim playing so strong? We've all seen the Wings do this song and dance before being the best in the regular season and we all know it's not the most important goal. However, hopefully it was a part of some goal in the pyramid chain for the team, and hopefully not the main goal obviously. As long as they don't snooze, they'll get one of these two games with a point. Celebrate the trophy for a day (assuming they win), then forget about it the next day and go back to work, hard....

What is wrong with Robert Lang?

How many of these threads are we going to have? The problem with Robert Lang is that he's not a demi-god, like this guy.....duh!

    Sean Avery

If Avery can keep his yapper lidded up and not cause any unnecessary drama in the locker room or controversial in the press, I'd consider wanting to get him back at some point in the future if he keeps developing like he seems like he is.

Ultimate Playoff Matchup Thread - Who Ya Want?

I've said it a bunch of times before, I'll say it again...it doesn't matter this season. Every team from 1-8 is capable of making a deep run without "hot goaltending".

    When Lang leaves this summer...

We pick up Lang's leftover cheeseburgers. Seriously, I'm neutral on Lang and see both sides. He's one of the few who's produced when it has counted last two seasons, and maybe the lightbulb will go on in his brain and he'll be able to do it again. He is frustrating to watch though, I won't go into detail as this subject has been beaten to death with a 2 x 4 at least 6 or 700 times. Unless he just plays out of this world in the playoffs, I think he'll have to take a pay cut if he wants to remain with the Wings. If that's the case, I wouldn't mind seeing him back, though it won't destroy me if he's gone next season either.

Wings say they are gritty enough for playoff grind

Reading that blurb that Zetterberg is "well-rested", along with Bertuzzi going down to Lang's line against the Columbus game and Holmstrom starting to play with Datsyuk again, gives me the strong perception that he'll be back for Tuesday's game, Thursday's at the latest, and that Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom will be re-united. I'm just speculating obviously, but I get the vibe that he's as close to 100% as he's been since sitting out over a month ago.

    Time to re-locate Canadian franchises!

It is clearly evident that many of the six Canadian franchises currently in the NHL are having trouble keeping up with the economic times. I think it’s time to consider brainstorming places where they can re-locate to. If we want to keep the Oilers franchise in the Western Conference, I suggest a move to Seattle. The NBA Supersonics will eventually be gone from Seattle and an NHL franchise would be the only professional team in town during the winter after the Seahawks finish their season. This has been talked about off/on in here and it could spark a big rivalry with Vancouver. Not to mention that there would still be a lot of regional Oiler fans. Ottawa could be re-located to Baltimore, to create a close rivalry with the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals. Better yet, how about re-locate Edmonton to Oklahoma City. Think about it.OKC also doesn’t have a permanent professional team. This could be a viable option because the NBA Hornets, due to Katrina, are still temporarily playing at the Ford Center there before they come back to my home town, New Orleans, for good next season, and the community has embraced them the past two seasons. Ford Center sits just over 18,000. http://www.okfordcenter.com/ http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictu...city_ford.shtml http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictu...city_ford.shtml

Ding ding ding. I laugh at anybody who took my outdoor stadium idea seriously and got angry over it.

Hull: Datsyuk won't re-sign because of Babcock

As respected as Brett Hull is for his hockey accomplishments and as much as I like him for being entertaining, he's got a mouth almost as big as Chris Rock. Whenever Hull speaks, I listen, but I don't take a whole lot of what he says to heart, because sometimes he's just incredibly full of s**t.

4/1 GDT: Red Wings @ Blue Jackets

Neat little win by a team shorthanded a bit against a BJ's team that's better than their record. Hasek did well early, the team overall started to get some breaks starting in the 2nd and they played well straight from there.

    Time to re-locate Canadian franchises!

No guys, I’m being serious here. We have also failed to consider the following...since recent hockey outdoor games over the past few years were wildly popular in East Lansing (Michigan State) and Edmonton (the Oilers Hall of Fame game). MSU’s Spartan Stadium sold a lot of its 70,000 seats for tht game and the Oilers HOF game was played is where the Eskimos (Edmonton’s Canadian Football team) play their games, which seats rougly 60,000. Think of the potential mass audiences the owners could reach. Based off those facts, I also suggest the city of Albuquerque to re-locate Edmonton to. It's a perfect marketing gimmick. Albuquerque doesn’t have a professional team of any kind, and the Phoenix Coyotes could use a good rival other than the Dallas Stars. The franchise could play games at “The Pit†located at the University of New Mexico, which is one of the better venues for college basketball in the country and seats over 18,000ish. Or, to entertain the wild popularity of a professional team, you could host games every now and then at an outdoor facility, the University Stadium, where UNM football games are played. It’s not overly large, but large enough, and it’s fairly compact, no upper decks so the players wouldn’t be tiny from high up, and it seats roughly 42,000. The 1st annual New Mexico Bowl was wildly successful (granted New Mexico was one of the teams in the bowl game) so you know outdoor sporting events there can be consistently popular. You could move Ottawa to Orlando. Tampa Bay and Florida could use another rival to stir the pot up, and Orlando is always a city that does well economically. They could play where the Magic and their arena football team, the Predators, play at Amway Arena, which seats just under 18,000. Florida generated a lot of interest with their Cup run in 1996, and Tampa Bay won it all in 2004, so a franchise in Orlando can definitely keep that magic going and make it to the Cup finals by 2010. And who wouldn't love seeing franchises from cities so close between Tampa Bay and Orlando on I-4 play so many times out of the year?
  21. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article.../704010676/1053 Neat little article from the Freep online. Part of it is hope obviously, but I'm pretty confident Datsyuk will break out of his playoff funk and both will be extremely important contributors in a hopefully deep playoff run.

Absolutely I agree on everything! Why mess with recent success using this formula?!?!?!?!

Kronwall out 6-8 weeks with broken sacrum

I'm not really surprised that Kronwall's out for an extended period of time, given how he had to be helped off the ice and barely putting weight on one leg to be helped off. Looks like Lilja's in for good now even when Lebda gets back, and Quincey's now 7th d-man. It's not all that bad. I'm no big fan of Lilja but he's done real well these past few games, we just got to cut him some slack and hope for the best in him, and Quincey seems to bring a decent all-around game from the limited action I've seen in him. Nothing he excels at greatly, but nothing he just blows brainfarts at either, and he'll throw his body around some it seems. I'd definitely prefer to have Kronwall in for good over Lilja but this isn't that bad of a scenario once Lebda gets back. Like him/hate him because he might not be developing still, you have to just feel for Kronwall, the guy just can't catch a break with one bad injury after the next.

Dumbest thing you've ever heard another teams fans say

This wasn't a hockey game, but a football game... The college I went to (Texas Christian) used to play in Conference USA for sports, which Tulane (located in my hometown of New Orleans) plays in. It was 2001 I believe, and I was still in college, and we had a football game back down here at Tulane. Tulane usually isn't that good in football, and they weren't that good that year, but they steamrolled TCU in that game actually which I came back down for. I just went to the game with my family and we sat next to this Tulane fan that was just a jackass. Tulane won the game by like 25, and the game was all but settled in the 3rd quarter, and he was still blowing a hissy fit. I basically told him more/less to shut the f**k up and quit ranting, your team is winning, just be happy. He eventually did, thank God. Thata wasn't the dumb thing though... It was early in the 2nd quarter and TCU returned a punt for a TD to tie the score up, but there was a pretty obvious block in the back call which should've been on TCU, negating the touchdown. The guy goes on by yelling "IF THERE WAS ANY JUSTICE IN THE WORLD, THAT WOULD BE CALLED BACK" and yadda yadda yadda.... I was like...dude, it's just a football game, not a war or political game.

3/30 GDT: Stars @ Red Wings

All right I'm sure there's been a lot of f-bombs and stupid ridiculous posts in here out of anger/frustration which I'm probably thankful to have missed, but here's my 0.02.... Disappointed I am that they blew the lead? Yes. Am I surprised or stunned? Not really actually. It was the tail-end of a back-to-back game, and the Wings lost one of their defenseman on the 1ST SHIFT OF THE GAME. You just had to think that it was going to catch up to them after a while, being so tired and gassed out. I'm not trying to make up 100 excuses, but let's try to have some degree of fairness and be reasonable here (not calling out anybody in particular as I haven't even been in this thread at all tonight until now). In the grand scheme of things, the Wings took 3 of 4 points in back-to-back nights against two playoff-bound clubs, and two really good ones at that. Yes, it should've been 4 of 4, but it wasn't. S**t happens. 3 of 4, considering the competiton, is not that bad. And let's focus on the bigger picture here going into the playoffs: Getting healthy and getting into somewhat of a groove the last 2/3 games, playing with some confidence. Of course I'd like to see the WIngs take the division and have home ice, but there's so little parity between the 1-8 seeds in the Western Conference this year, that it's not going to matter all that much if the Wings go 1 or 4. As disappointing as this loss is, it's not too big of a deal to me, given the circumstances of the game and last night's game. It's basically just waiting for the playoffs to start in my point of view, then the real worrying begins...
