    Huds proving critics wrong

I've been surprised at Rex a bit. I wasn't one to harp on him if he did bad, but remember how he came to the Wings so young at 19 and just struggled immensely? Also, I'll admit I barely play butkus to any minor league action anywhere, so I really didn't know how he was developing over the years at Grand Rapids. And the 4 games he was up with the Wings last season, there wasn't really much pub about him good/bad. So, I had some doubts on him, whether they were fair/unfair. He could be a wild card going into the playoffs, a guy who won't be counted on for 15-20 minutes a game in all likelihood, but we need him to chip in a timely goal every now and then.

What's going to happen in the playoffs? Somebody will win, somebody will lose. Somebody will score, somebody won't. There's my answer to the question. But there will never be any doom-and-gloom posts from me.

Robert Datsyuk via ESPN.com last season I think one time. Remember that?

    Mikael Samuelsson

Is he a circus clown for birthday parties? That would be so cool! And for people who think Ellis should be used over Samuelsson Ellis - 12 games.....0G, 0A, 0P Samuelsson - 39 games.....12G, 13A, 25P And as much as I like what I have seen in Matt Ellis, zippo points produced so far. Yes, I know he just gets 4th line minutes and the two play fairly different roles. Samuelsson has produced to an extent though. And I can guarantee you if Ellis or any other Grand Rapids call-up was put on a 1st/2nd line and didn't produce points, people would be calling for Ellis' or somebody else's head from the farm as well. It's just a matter of wanting seeing the lesser-know guy play a little more. I wouldn't give guys like Ellis , even though I like what I've seen so far, more playing time just for the sake of it, when Samuelsson or any other player isn't just completely stinking up the joint and the Wings are still winning games more often than not. Don't change something that isn't close to being broken.

*Inserts foot in mouth* Yeah, because we already know what's going to happen in the playoffs that don't happen until next month.

    Mikael Samuelsson

Samuelsson is far from a superstar, but he's not bad by any stretch of the imagination. If him sacraficing shots gets guys like E.T. and Flipper to shoot more, I'm all for it, but we know that scenario will never play out. At least he's willing to put the puck on net more often than not. Good shot or no, you never know when a goofy rebound will pop up.

    Cherry on the Wings...

    1. I wouldn't say all the games are passionless, but I definitely see what you are saying. The team is going through the motions for better/worse before the postseason starts. 2. Fully agree. Corporation thingy unfortunately that has been talked about ad naseum in here, no need to go through it again. 3. Fully agree as well, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It just means that fans have known that the Wings will usually put a good product out there (in terms of these last 10 years roughly) and while they want the WIngs to win the game obviously, they aren't going to go bonkers over 1 loss in the regular season over 80+ games when you know you're team is going to be in the playoffs in all likelihood. 4. Agree as well. So, in terms of players/fans with passion. If the players aren't playing with a whole lot of passion right now, I'm not going to say that they should do it now, b/c if they don't it'll come back and bite them in the a** in the playoffs. A lot of the Wings are experienced enough to know what playing in the postseason is al about, they know when it's time to be desperate, etc. For fans showing emotion, see #3. The corporation thing sucks again, but what can you do. They pay money to the Red Wings business, Illitch and company would be foolish to just reject the money (even though they are probably loaded off their rear) because they might not be into the games as much. You own a business to make money, so...... As for me personally, I'm kinda in the same boat in #3. I don't get too emotional or passionate b/c I know the Wings will probably play in the playoffs, I'm that way with all sports I watch (whether they are successful or not). I don't yell or scream or get rowdy that much, I'm not a cheerleader, I don't constantly scream at my TV. I rarely miss games though b/c I like to watch Wings games or my other sports teams. Just because I'm not into the games as much mentally/emotionally doesn't make me any less/worse of a fan.

So? Watch the Wings in spite of him then.

3/9 GDT: Kings @ Red Wings

Post-game thoughts... Guess I'm glad I really didn't go in and miss any annoying yelling and ripping. I don't necessarily like games like last night, but I like when wins are still the outcome. I'm definitely not suggesting the Wings play half-a**ed for 25 minutes then turn it up, but you get the idea. Give the team credit for just peppering away and peppering away at Burke. Some were the bad/no screen shots that are all too familiar, but you just got to keep peppering away sometimes. This is a game the Wings probably should've won 5-1 if they showed up for the entire 60 minutes, but I'm not complainging that much, they still got 2 points, and the Kings aren't going to roll over and die even though they aren't doing that good right now.

    Simon pulls a McSorley

I actually just found out about this today and saw a quick recap on ESPN.com. I haven't read the first 4/5 pages concerning this so I'm fresh in this thread but, my take... I'm not really worried about if this incidient is another 'black eye' on the NHL or not. The league isn't going anywhere, I like watching the sport, I'm not worried if others don't or really won't attempt to watch it. I'm not going to work 24 hours a day to change minds, so I really don't care about it giving the NHL any bad pub, cause I know it's still fun to watch this sport. In any sport played at a high level, emotions will run high, there's intensity. Still, you have to keep a level head. Past incidents from McSorely, Lemieux, Bertuzzi, and this one by Simon, are inexcusable, no matter how much in-the-heat-of-the-moment the situation is. Some control has to be maintained. Hopefully the suspension will be just/fair, and hopefully Chris Simon will learn from this and I'm confident that he'll apologize and he'll regret what he did after this events starts to settle down.

    NHL goes pink again

Groovy. And if somebody says that using pink sticks shouldn't be done because it's not 'manly' enough (or ***) for hockey, I will jump through my computer and strangle that person.

http://www.nhl.com/features/nbcmap031107.pdf According to the handy dandy map, unless you are living in the state of New York or North Carolina, Wings will be on NBC on most television sets on Sunday morning/afternoon.

General stereotypes that are untrue piss me off. Whether it's thinking everybody down South is a hillbilly or redneck, or whether it's thinking everybody in the Detroit area is a crackhead or criminal. It isn't true and general accusations annoy the hell out of me and make the poster who says it look like an idiot. It's 20/20 hindsight b/c the people who think make fun of Southerners down here thinking we are dumb rednecks, or don't want hockey anywhere outside of Michigan, Minnesota, or Canada, are the same ones that get all out of shape of false accusations of Detroit being a dump for miles and miles when it isn't.

    Nashville forum

Cry me a rant. Just because Detroit has been around the league long and Nashville has only been in the league for roughly a decade doesn't mean you have to sound like an elitest snob because the Red Wings have more of a history/team to refer to. You have to start from somewhere, and Nashville has slowly and surely gotten better over the years. Contrary to popular belief, hockey can exist in the Sun Belt.

Geez! When I saw the thread title I thought that Homer took up cow tipping as a second hobby! Good thing he just plays hockey.

    Datsyuk Negotiations

That point is moot IMO because nobody here (unless there are hidden Red Wing posters) has or will ever play NHL hockey I think. If that was the case, this forum would be dull and very quiet, b/c we wouldn't be able to judge anybody, according to your rules. We all want him to do well in the playoffs and yes he's been playing well lately, but the no-show in the playoffs will ALWAYS come up until he produces, whether you like it or not. I don't really get why you get all up in arms about this when it's a fairly hot topic with everybody and it's not like everybody is just blatantly bashing him left/right. It's just a simple fact. Even Datsyuk, while he might not say it out loud, will probably admit he needs to do better in the postseason IMO.

Game isn't necessarly early (as long as you don't drink heavily the night before ). Most NFL games start at 12:00 or 1:00 local time.

    Getting Anxious

As much as I don't like Bertuzzi that much personally, I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do on the ice. It'll be interesting to see if he just goes all out, or if he plays really cautious due to his bad back. Those damn injuries seem to be nagging unfortunately so I wouldn't be surprised if it slows him down a bit. I am cautiously optimistic though and hope I am wrong.

    Season Tickets

I've never had season tickets to any sports team, but I actually have travelled to a few Wings games the past two seasons, and I had to do a lot of things to get those tickets... 1. Bribery 2. Yelling out to the public "I am a little piggy" 3. Running around naked in my neighborhood while people pointed and laughed at me 4. Join the Italian Mafia and spy on my family 5. Dress like a school girl, but I couldn't shave my legs I'm just going to quit there cause this is getting too sickening.

EDIT: Wonderfully stated Hockeytown Red Wings. If you all have a problem, there's the personal message function. As for your deleted posts Lint, I don't really know or remember what you said or the gist of posts in here other than the first page. Maybe another mod other than betterREDthandead deleted them, he might not know anything about it. It's basically just a common sense issue. It shoudn't be any different just because you are behind a computer and stirring up s**t won't get your butt kicked like it might in real life. Use common sense and treat others with respect and don't stir the pot to intentionally piss a whole bunch of people off. EDIT: It may be funny to the postee, but it's probably not going to be funny to hundreds of other members in here who are trying to read what is relevant in the thread. It's not about your personal enjoyment, be considerate of others since this is a place where hundreds of people with hundreds of different personalities meet up.
