Let's not get ahead of ourselves now harold.
-
There's not much conversation to really be had when reality is obvious that... 1. Hasek is better than Osgood when both are healthy. 2. The Wings chances of making a deep run are probably better with Hasek in net. 3. Osgood is capable of filling in and is not a handicap to this team. 4. The Wings chances of making a deep run probably do not spiral downhill if Osgood is in net. End of story, there's nothing else really worthwhile to discuss between the two, homerish or reality/insightful.

Nothing to do with Hasek vs. Osgood IMO. There's no comparison between the two for better/worse when both are equally healthy. I'm talking about the people who just obsessively hate him only from a few soft long-shot goals back in the day and don't give any other reasons to dislike him because of that.
-
Anyways, I'm not worried about either of them if they stay healthy. Hasek's the #1 guy, no questions asked. If he goes down, we have a backup goalie who has already won a Cup in the past, and while he probably shouldn't be relied on to carry a team or steal 4 games in a row, he is still a very capable goalie that could start for many teams still, in spite of the opinions of some people in here who hate him with a passion. It's that simple, I don't know why this is even a major discussion.

I clearly hope you are just being sarcastic about that line combo.
-
Two solid games from Calder so far right now. Surprised how he's gelled in fairly well with Franzenstein and Bob. I hope this keeps up but it's only been 2 games, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
-
To think that people assume that Hasek had no impact in winning it all in 2002 is ludicrous as well.

Quoted for truth. I like Booter and hopefully he'll get more of a shot soon. But when Wings management, for better or worse, thinks guys like Ellis or Hussey might bring more to the table, despite maybe not throwing the bodies around as much........it makes me at least wander if Bootland can eventually play 3rd/4th line minutes consistently in the NHL, especially when he got a decent shot a few seasons ago and isn't getting any younger (although he's not an old fogey by any stretch).

That's pretty sick.

Post-game thoughts... Overall, a good win by a short-handed team in a game expected to be sloppy. Unfortunately Chicago didn't put up much of a fighting chance, I thought they'd be better, so as long as the Wings didn't just completely self-destruct, the game was all but over after 4-0. Kudos to Williams getting his first 2 goals as a Hawk and against is former team. You could tell that made him happy. They'll regret keeping him on the point on the power play in time though. As much as I love how Schneider contributes on the offensive side of things, if he didn't have the capabilities to put up points on the PP, I'd consider greatly reducing his time cause he is captain turnover when you don't expect it. I take the good and the bad with him, but the good (PP, points) usually outweighs his brainfarts so..... Kudos to Lang getting back on track, at least for now. He's looked better the past few games and finally got rewarded. Whoever he plays with when the team gets healthy again, he needs to create plays. Kudos to E.T. for having a solid game also without Zetterberg in the lineup, he was still making plays and being a threat. And poo on the refs for waving off Ellis' first goal. That 4th line was very good last night, good to know we'll have people in reserve that should bust their tails off when everybody gets healthy.

I don't like Bertuzzi much on a personal level, but seriously, we got to let this incident just fade away. It was in the heat of the moment act... That still doesn't excuse what Bertuzzi did... Bertuzzi probably regrets what he did... He's done his time and is trying to resume a normall career... He'll never forget this but he's moved on... We should too.

Osgood is not THAT BAD as you are dramatizing. Hopefully this won't lead to any kinda goofy phantom injuries with Hasek. I'm not too alarmed about this (yet), hopefully this doesn't lead to an injury between the legs...can kinda relate to this right now, went for a pretty intense jog/run on Wednesday evening and didn't stretch that well, my thighs/hammies are still sore right now

Why I Wish The Wings Got Belfour Instead of Hasek
SouthernWingsFan replied to Hank's topic in General
Before the season started I wish we didn't have either Belfour or Hasek. However, I wish that I also was a multi-millionair and was able to hang out at the Playboy Mansion all the time. But I am not that and cannot afford to hang out with women in bathing suits every day. C'est la vie I guess, it's still good anyways..... -
I doubt it would sting that much. If I was in Nolan's shoes (or skates), sure I'd probably be asking what if's, but the health of your family/kids/spouse domes first, not your job, so I wouldn't have too much regrets if I had to stay in Phoenix for this scenario.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...0305/index.html Sorry for the multi-new threads, actually a good bit being discussed Red Wings related on some of the sports sites... Pretty cool article on the Preds recent victory over the Wings and how they are trying to overtake and beat them.

Ok, I stand corrected then as I forgot they played the Sharks in the playoffs last year. You can't tell me though Preds fans look forward to facing the Sharks more over the Red Wings. -

SI.com - Michael Farber - Beating the Red Wings
SouthernWingsFan replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Why? They are in the same division, Detroit has been one of the better teams in the NHL the past 10-15 years. The Preds have slowly/surely gotten better over their short history, and their only playoff matchup so far was with the Red Wings. If I were a Preds fan, I'd consider Detroit to be the top-rival. It's a respect thing. Doesn't seem too scary or obsessive to me. -

Hey back off it was my idea, I asked first! -
FYI, here's a coverage map for Wings/Avs and Pitt/Philly on NBC. Only places the Wings/Avs really aren't on is east of Ohio and north of Virginia. http://www.nbcsports.com/download/2007/0222/1095724.pdf

They don't need to make any off-season moves. Hasek's done either this year or next IMO. Osgood has 1 more year left on his current contract, and you know he isn't going anywhere, so at the very least he'll be one of the goalies next year. If Hasek doesn't return, I'm thinking an Osgood/Howard duo next season, With Osgood getting about 60, 65% of the starts, with Howard really starting to get more in-tune with the NHL game. If Osgood doesn't get a new contract after 2007-08, Howard's #1.

No preference for me, all eight teams that look to be in this year's playoffs are extremely capable of making a deep run. Everybody should be aware of this when the lower seeds all knocked off the top ones. But if I had to pick a team to play the Wings in the playoffs live, it'd be Dallas, cause it's only about an 8 hour drive from where I live.
