Nolan rejected Trade to Red Wings

Good for Nolan putting family/personal things first, the next Owen Nolan Jr. is the most important thing in his life right now, and if I were him, I'd want to be around for him as much as possible as well. And for those of you saying something like his loss or I'm glad he's not coming here after this situation, shame on you. Show some more class.

    Brodeur hot on Sawchuk's heels

I think Brodeur's kinda a goof personally, but more power to him if/when he breaks this record. It's only being held by arguably one of the best goalies in the history of the game. He won't break this record by accident if he does. For those who say he is overrated, you have a head full of bricks.

Zetterberg out 2-3 weeks (inflamed disc)

Well ooptar... I know the Wings are in a fight for the top spot in the division, but personally I am not too concerned if the Wings finish 1 or 4. Any of the teams in the Western Conference are capable of making a deep run in the playoffs. All matchups will be dangerous ones, so while I'd like to see Zetterberg in the lineup obviously, the Wings are pretty entrenched to being 1/4. Having Zetterberg out really won't have much affect in the Wings' place in the standings IMO, so no need to rush him back. Mid-March hopefully.

OFFICIAL: Todd Bertuzzi a Red Wing

My whole $0.02 on getting Bertuzzi and my feelings towards him. Personally, I don't like him, I lost a lot of respect for him for the you-know-what incident (which I do not want to elaborate any on so let's end it at that and keep this on topic), but I'll keep my personal feelings about him mum as he's on the Red Wings now. Even if he helps us go deep in the playoffs or win the Cup, I still won't like him all that much personally. Now, personal feelings aside, this was a solid deal. The Wings didn't/won't have to give up all that much for him, and he brings elements that the Wings generally do not have for the most part - large size and somebody who can consistently throw the body around, and somebody who is capable of putting in 30 a season. Basically, a power forward. What I don't get from some recent posts in here by naysayers. You all scream and clamor for more grit and toughness. Holland gets somebody like this, and didn't have to give up a ridiculous amount to get him like a lot of the last-minute deals (Guerin, Rivet, etc.). It made sense to made this deal, even though we (or I) personally might not like Bertuzzi, he hasn't caught much break this season in health, and so forth. Bertuzzi isn't the end of all end solutions to the toughness/hustle problem, but he gets somebody that EXACTLY fits this mold, yet some of you still seem to be bitching. I don't get it, what do some of you want? Kudos to Holland for making this trade, hopefully he'll be able to get into the lineup in a week or two and his back/herniated disk won't be much of an issue and he can be a force on a 2nd line.

Any Speculation on Bert in the lineup.

My bad, I didn't know, was just guessing. All the trade stuff has been impossible to keep up with and work's been nuts so I'm pretty out of the loop right now in terms of hockey talk. Thanks for correcting me.

Any Speculation on Bert in the lineup.

If his hernia is fully healthy (I'm not entirely sure), my guess would be Friday's game, absoluetly no later than Sunday's game. Assuming it is healthy, I doubt he'd be playing tonight. The trade was finalized early this afternoon, he might be in Chicago for the game tonight but it's just too much of a hassel to get the jersey created, get him playing with new linemates without some practice, and all that jazz. I'm looking forward to see how he performs soon.
  15. My support for Holland has faded over recent seasons, but I haven't been one of those people that constantly kick him in the rear, blaming him left/right for a guy possibly signing somewhere else or a trade not quite happening the way we want it to. I'm not one of those people who want all tough guys/enforcer types, but you have to admit he hasn't been superb at addressing this issue in recent seasons. When he signed Hasek this offseason, my support for him was going down fast due to Hasek's health uncertainty/past drama here, and when he signed Greg Johnson (nothing against Johnson), he really got low on my totem pole because I really didn't think it was addressing anything the Wings needed. At least for this season, you have to admit he's done a pretty respectable job. Hasek's remained healthy (knock on wood) and was signed for cheap. Danny Markov has proved to be worth the investment so far, a good low-key signing IMO. While I don't like Bertuzzi personally and lost a lot of respect for him due to the you-know-what incident (which I DO NOT want this thread to derail to), if he can shake off his hernia, I think he'll excel on a 2nd line. I still think he has the nasty edge in him. So, I don't want to say I was really doubting Holland, but I wasn't going to act shocked if a bid deal wasn't going to get done by the deadline. Glad I was wrong to an extent.

Anyone Else Concerned About # Of Hasek's Starts?

Kinda sorta. All has gone well so far in terms of Hasek's health/groin, but I'm not going to act shocked if it blows out. From what I have skimmed though on his workout routines (don't know the ins/outs of it), I'm fairly confident that his groin won't be much of a hassle. Assuming he does stay healthy prior to the playoffs, I'd still be doing the same thing as usual, give him the majority of the starts, rest him on one of the games of consecutive days. I'm more concerned about him leaving his crease like a looney as opposed to his groin keeping up right now.

    Next Year

If y'all "smell it" and already know what's going to happen ahead of time since you all have magic crystal balls that predict the future, don't watch and save yourself some heartache since we aren't going deep in the playoffs or winning the Cup apparently. Games and playoffs aren't decided on sports forums, they are decided on the ice. And they haven't even come close to starting yet.

Zetterberg out until Friday (Back Spasms)

No worries, just 1, 2 games missed at max. Honestly if I were coach, I'd want to win the division obviously, but not at the expense of having most of your go-to guys injured for extended periods of times or gassed out before the important part of the season begins. Hopefully Zetterberg doesn't rush this as the Wings are in the playoffs, either as #1 or #4. I'm not going to throw a temper-tantrum if they don't win the division as long as they are healthy and have decent momentum going into the postseason.

Lebda being groomed for big things

Lebda's down very well the first two seasons here, not a whole lot of glaring mistakes. Hopefully down the road as he gets more PT, his point totals go up as he is a fairly offensive-minded defenseman. I hope he has a consistent career like these first two seasons, but I am nowhere near ready to say he is being "groomed for big things", like he's going to be a #1 or #2 d-man.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

Interesting move I guess... Calder definitely wasn't my first idea of a trade. I haven't checked the replies in this thread and won't read through all 10+ pages but I can bet that 80% of the posts are complaining that he is undersized and that Holland is a dolt. I don't know much about him, but who knows, maybe he'll provide some spark on the 2nd/3rd line. At least this, along with Cleary's injury, is going to force Robert Lang to play with new linemates, which will hopefully get him going. We didn't lose out on this trade at all. Williams took a lot of s**t on here from people, and while he's no superstar, he's not utterly useless either. I don't see Calder being significantly better/worse than him though, so right now it's just a swap-swap players for me. No real harm done either way right now.

Trade for second-tier players are Wings' only option

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../702260374/1128 This is a catch-22 for me. What San Jose had to give up to get Craig Rivet was a wee bit ridiculous. I never really watched the Canadiens in the past but I have little doubt that Rivet is a solid defenseman, but he's no Phaneuf or Nortstrom or Niedermeyer IMO. I don't want the Wings and Holland to completely sell the farm and get out of the long-term mode of thinking, but I'd like to try to see something get done. I have guarded optimism that the current team can make a deep run in the playoffs, but it's not like the roster is just "perfect" for the postseason. They look like they have some financial flexibility, to a degree, to pull something decent off, so why not take the chance?
