I'm definitely no NHL coach, but this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The 2nd line just is not working. If it weren't for injuries, it'd probably stay completely intact, that's the perception I get. I don't think Flipper or Rex are the greatest things since sliced bread, but I think it's at least worth a shot to give them some more PT. Didn't Lang and Rex play some on the same line earlier this season?

Wings have made an Offer for Jason Blake
SouthernWingsFan replied to russianswede919293's topic in General
Why the hell not...Blake's not overly big but he's got some good skills, 2nd line minutes. If this happens, great, but I'm not getting ahead of myself. NYI is fighting tooth and nail for one of the final spots in the EC, it doesn't make too much sense to me that they would give up one of their better players. -
The heck with Souray, we need this guy!
-
Doesn't look like it's pointing in that direction...

Reason we lost the game last night because there were two very good teams out there, fairly evenly matched, hits/scoring chances were roughly the same on both sides, and there were very few defensive collapses on either side. Nashville just capitalized on one more of their chances, nothing more, nothing less. Osgood has another year left on his contract here and isn't going anywhere, sorry, but your hopes of him driving a zamboni are on hold. It probably pains you very much. If you need a hug, I'm here...

He's getting some more good chances lately, but it's a combination of being absolutely snakebitten and just not really having any confidence IMO. You wander if something is really going on in his head right now that's affecting him on the ice. We know he usally plays a calm, quiet-paced, and patient game, but that just isn't working. If a trade could be worked out for him before Tuesday to get a decent deal for the Wings, I'm all ears, but I just don't think he has that much value. Maybe Washington would want him back, but who would we get from the Capitals that could help out of a fair deal from both sides (no, not Overcheckin, if you're smoking the peace pipe waiting for that deal, put it down now)? Honestly, I don't see him being moved, which is frustrating now, but hopefully he can be there again for a 3rd straight playoff season. Not to sound like a jackass, but maybe Cleary getting injured could be of benefit to Lang right now. He'll have opportunities to work with new linemates, maybe get some new chemistry going.

HNIC: Satellite Hotstove, Trade deadline talk
SouthernWingsFan replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
Gonna go against the grain here... If the Wings don't pick up Tkachuk or Guerin, I wouldn't mind seeing Laraque or Nolan come on board. -
Well boys and girls, Detroit and Nashville are all square now going into the next matchup. Might as well not have it any other way to make it as interesting/exciting as possible. It stinks that the Wings couldn't hold the lead, but 1 point is better than 0, and it's not like they just gave the game away. It was a fairly evenly-played game between two really good teams, physical play from both sides, with not a lot of brainfarts or miscues on either side. Osgood had a solid game, and I'm really starting to get a man-love crush ( ) on Holmstrom. Nashville just capitalized on 1 more chance than Detroit. Nothing more, nothing less. The Wings weren't manhandled, they weren't outchanced, Vokoun didn't steal the game from them. It was just a close game all throughout and unfortuantely our team just came up slightly short. If they can maintain this intensity/effort for the playoffs, I'm fairily (but cautiously obviouslly given recent bad results ) confident about their chances of making a deep run.
-
Why? It's not really worth the time/effort. Get better Olassoun and get back to being healthy!
-
Nothing wrong with Osgood in my mind, at least these last two games. He was spot on in Dallas recently and no bad goals or anything tonight. Needs to learn to stay in his crease a bit better, but the wandering isn't tht bad. He didn't look lazy tonight, it was just a game between two really good teams, a fairly even game throughout, and Nashville just had one more of their chances go in. Nothing more/less.

If Yzerman would've kept his point totals high in the latter series, he probably would've gotten a 2nd Conn Smythe. His inspirational play in the 1st round though was one of a great things to lead to a rally in that series, and the one that stood out most IMO. However, I just really didn't see many mistakes out of Lidstrom throughout that playoff year. He just quietly produced and was quite consistent, which is why he deserved it most.

Read the title of the thread genious, it says "Hasek", not Lang.

Wonderful, the real vs. fake fan analogy. I want to see the Red Wings do well, which means all the players need to do well, which means I want to see all the players that play on the Red Wings do well, even the ones that get critiqued a lot or a little. Just because I may not think that a player doesn't have any weaknesses or goofed up on a play doesn't make me any less of a fan than you or the average Joe Blow on the street. I rarely miss games and I will critique (and stand up for players as well) if somebody did wrong in my mind, I don't give two s**ts who the player is or how great/bad he is and I want this organization to do well. Guess I ain't a real fan though..............

This thread has nothing to do with Robert Lang.

We're gonna win by 10 touchdowns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good for MacDonald. Hopefully he'll get more PT in the Boston system and who knows, in time maybe backup to Tim Thomas. Best of luck to him.

Holland: Wings won't deal unless prices come down
SouthernWingsFan replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
Because he might have had the chance of bettering this team, this year's roster, already and they might not have had to worry about getting a guy/two like they might want now. Forgetting the past alltogether is never going to happen. I'm not Holland's biggest fan, but I don't think he's the second coming of Satan either like osme here. He can't be faulted right now if asking prices for players all across 30 teams are too high. If he might have gotten a player like he's coveting now in the offseason, he might not have to worry about getting the right guy now as much. Somehow though I think this is going to be twisted around into me complaining or something... -
Interesting... An Injury to somebody we don't know about? Anyways, with the Langfield criticism here...right now he's no more than a 3rd/4th liner. Maybe he'd get more PT somewhere else, who knows... He's taken some bad penalties of late, but the last few games he's shown some pretty good jump IMO in his limited capacity.
-
Doesn't make your high opinion of him any more right/wrong either.

1 point is better than 0. Gotta give Edmonton some credit, playing good apparently at Columbus and still having some gas left in the tank the next night and not just letting the tires fall off after those first two goals (and awful penalty calls). They are a desperate team who still has an outside chance at a playoff spot if Minnesota or Calgary start tanking, so I expected this to be a tough game even after the Wings went ahead 2-0. They got some really decent skilled guys that can wreak havoc despite not being in the playoff picture right now. We all know this first hand from last spring. The refereeing in the first period was a joke. Hey, I'll take the two PP goals any way I can, but besides when Hudler was yanked down on the ice on the intial PP (to a horrible call as well), there were very little penalties out there IMO. Let the guys play for crying out loud. Note to Hasek: We know you're the man, but please stay in your crease area when there's players in the defensive zone. Hopefully the Wings aren't gassed out and are napping well right now and can be rested and healed up for the big game tonight and Osgood is sharp. If we can get at least another point tonight (but preferably two ), I'll be content going into next game.

Jason Williams has to be one of the worst players in the NHL.
SouthernWingsFan replied to a topic in General
Williams has just disappeared off the face of the ice I think. He hasn't done anything in my recent memory that's just been plain awful (I missed where he apparently goofed on the empty net goal in Phoenix actually), but he's done almost nothing that's made him stand out for the better either. I just don't undestand having him on the blue line on the power play when he will very rarely pull the trigger, because he can rope it pretty hard. He's just kinda 'there' out on the ice right now for better/worse, worse right now. I'm not going to piss and moan if he's still here after the trade deadline, I'll have some optimism that he'll hopefully step up his play soon. His trade value regardless wouldn't be that high. -
Unnecessary. I don't expect him or anybody else to be perfect and definitely take the good with the bad and know how good he is. Some of the roaming is absolutely unnecessary though. Seems like you are doing an effective job complaining as well, complaining about the complainers. I remember him being stellar two days ago crystal clear, but he is not above anybody in terms of opinion/critique if I feel he's goofed up. There's thousands of members in here. Probably a lot of us don't play hockey. If people didn't have opinions or second guess or even be slightly critical of not just him, but any other players like whipping boys Lilja or Williams, or even the better players like Lidstrom or Draper, this sports forum loses a lot of it's meaning and becomes a lot more quieter. Even the great Captain has been second guessed sometimes on the ice in here by people who have no hockey-playing skills whatsoever. If nobody is even slightly questioned or critqued, we'd all be a bunch of homers all up in the players' jock-straps, and that'd make this place pretty stale and boring. If you can't take even the slightest criticism of him, grow some thicker skin. This criticism of him from last night is absolutely nothing than some of the grillings other players have gotten around here (Holland, Ozzie sucks threads in the past, Deveraux, etc.).
