Anyone Else Feel That Nashville Will Become A True Rival?

You'd be doing the same thing if you favorite team was still fairly new in the hockey league and doesn't have as much past history to refer back to. Nashville fans should be happy right now, let them go about their business and be excited that this is probably their 1st team that might push for a deep playoff run or contend for a Stanley Cup. They don't have much else to build on right now because they are so new. Don't sound snobbish just because you are a fan of a team with a deep/successful history in this league that has been around longer.

    Forsberg unhappy about trade

Yeah, because everybody down South is either a country hillbilly or a Cajun coon ass. Give me a break.

Anyone Else Feel That Nashville Will Become A True Rival?

They are kind of a rival by default right now. The Avalanche rivalry is fading, and the Blackhawks and Blues aren't consistently good enough yet to turn it into a mutual feeling from both St Louis/Chicago and Detroit to be a rivalry. I don't see, and hope not, for a drastic event like Lemieux-Draper to put a Detroit/Nashville rivalry to any boiling point, but it's slowly turning into a respectable rivalry, kind of under the water right now.

    firebettman.com

I wander if the people who created http://www.fireronzook.com/ had a major contribution in the firing of football coach Ron Zook (now with Illinois) from the Florida Gators.

To trade, or not to trade...

How do you know this? You can read minds in the future as well? Nobody knows what is going to happen a few months down the road. Nobody is dismissing what has happened in recent seasons or the brainfart losses every now and then. WE GET IT. Some of us don't think the playoffs are already over before it hasn't even started in two months. I won't be surprised if this team might bow out in the 2nd round, but give this team a chance for crying out loud, current roster or somewhat fine-tuned roster after the trading deadline. I'm glad some people here aren't the players, if you all had the "We;re screwed" attitude, the Wings wouldn't even be in the playoffs at all.

To trade, or not to trade...

A trade may come, a trade may not come....at least we got all the angles covered! Just yankin your chain My name is Jack, do I know Jack? Glad to know where your confidence level stands and your already know what's going to happen. If that's the case why even play the remaining games or watch? We might as well just build a time machine and warp to October 2007 and start next season right now!

    The Unthinkable could be happening?

How does Guerin already know? He called you via his cell phone after his conversation with Wings management? Anyways, Blues are slowly starting to get their acts together. I wasn't surprsied when they blanked us last week, they almost came away with a win at JLA earlier this month as well. It might be too little/too late if as long as Calgary and Minnesota (current 7/8 seeds) don't flop, but as long as they keep winning or getting into OT, they got somewhat of an attainable shot. They don't have much margin for error though.

Would we sign biron this summer

So Biron could be moved due to Buffalo potentially being shorthanded because of injuries........ That makes absolutely no sense.

What happened to our rivalry with the Avs?

So all Europeans don't fight, but North Americans do? I'm glad my 5'7", 145 lb. frame is intimating to somebody like Mattias Norstrom, cause I could clearly kick his a**.....or sometthing.... Anyways, the rivalry is dead, neither team really has any fighters, not just the Wings, and getting somebody like Laraque isn't going to spice the rivalry up. It's going to take another incident like the Draper-Lemieux incident (something I am not advocating for on either side).

    Nashville's record doesn't reflect it's team lately

Of course the Wings have a realistic chance of winning the division, don't be silly. They are only 1 point back, and Nashville could hit a snag even though it's unlikely. It looks like the Wings will either be the #1 or #4 seed. I'd rather the Wings try to win the division to play either Calgary or Minnesota in the opening round vs. Dallas or San Jose, but Dallas and San Jose are kind of fading right now that I can probably say with some safety that I absolutely do not want to play one team over the other.

Would we sign biron this summer

Seriously, do we really want to play the goalie version of musical chairs for a 429th straight season? I think the more telling question is who will the backup be next season. Osgood has 1 more year left on his current contract, he isn't going anywhere. I personally don't like Hasek, but if he can stay healthy for the remainder of this season and playoffs and still feels he can play at a high level and can maintain shape in the offseason, I'd put my personal feelings aside for him and be comfortable with him back. If he does return, I doubt he would command a lot of cash. So either Hasek or Osgood will be starter next year. If Hasek returns, it'll be Hasek #1/Osgood #2 again next season. Howard is the future of this franchise in terms of goaltending not next season, but the season after in all likelihood. It'd be interesting to see if he's #2 goalie next year if Hasek retires or Holland doesn't re-sign him or if he will continue to be the workhorse in Grand Rapids. I just don't see where MacDonald fits into the goaltending equation with the Wings over the next few seasons.

    TKACHUK or GUERIN ?

Slight nod to Tkachuk. Both seem to be a bit on the decline, but they are far from finished in the NHL. Tkachuk seems like more of a risk with injuries, but to me it seems like he's willing to crash the net a little more and has a bit nastier edge than Guerin. With that being said though, Guerin is no slouch either. I'd be happy if either one of them somehow was on the Wings after the trading deadline. Where would you put one of them though, assuming one of them becomes a Wing obviously? My first initial guess would be to naturally say w/ Zetterberg and Datsyuk to free them some space, but I really don't know if I want to break Holmstrom up from that line. To me, Guerin or Tkachuk could do the dirty work a little bit better than Holmstrom, at least in terms of throwing their weight around, but we all know what Holmstrom can bring to the table by going in front of the net and all that good stuff. Those three have brought it almost every night since late December, why break up a good thing now in terms of that line...

    Are you kidding me?

*Has flashbacks of Visors are for Pu**ies thread* Visors = Smart, who knows, it might keep you from losing an eye if the puck hits your face If somebody thinks you are a wuss because of face protection, which is perfectly legal in the game and a lot of other people use this face protection as well, I'd just laugh back in their face.

    2/14 GDT: @ Dallas Stars, 8:30pm

First the bad, and there wasn't much bad from this game... As great as it is to see Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom generate scoring chances a good bit when they are out there, the Wings need scoring from other sources. As solid as D-Z-H is, they aren't always going to get 2-3 goals a night. Now the good... There wasn't a lot of scoring, but this was as good of an all-around effort as I've seen the Wings in all three phases of offense, defense, and goaltending. The offense didn't panic or stray away from their game, chipping away at Smith and finally getting one by him. Some harmless shots which we expect sometimes unfortunately, but Smith made some really, really good saves as well. He had a helluva game. Anyways, the offense looked far from sluggish and while it wasn't overbearing, they got more than enough chances. The defense was great. Very few turnovers, very few brainfarts, which in turn leads to very few penalties. The Stars got some decent chances, but I very rarely saw any 2nd chances off rebounds/wide shots, etc. And Osgood was superb, as calm and collected as I saw him. He didn't have to make many big stops but he did his job when needed. Hopefully it won't come to a point where Hasek when he comes back, or Osgood in fill-in duty, will have to steal games by themselves alone, but I am more than comfortable with them both in net doing their parts to give up very few bad goals. I don't want them to feel like they have to steal games or be over-aggressive (i.e. chasing pucks 40 feet out of the net). The team seemed focused, matched the Stars intensity, and showed a lot of character coming from behind even though they were frustrated by Smith making some great saves. Wins like this excite me, and hopefully we can see more W's like this in the playoffs.

    Al Strachan's Nashville Rant

That's just arrogance. To say that nobody cares is arrogant. If nobody did, their attendance would only be in the hundreds. The city where I'm from had a minor league hockey team from the mid-90s to around 2000. And while there is plenty of other things to keep people entertained from where I am from, as is the same in Nashville, the team had some pretty solid attendance being a minor league team in a city with a lot of entertainment options. So, it might be hard to believe, people were calling up for tickets to those games from where I am from as well.

    Return of Hatcher?

QUOTED FOR TRUTH!!!!! Look, I'm not going ga-ga if Hatcher comes back here, but I wouldn't be totally against it either. He has a good mean streak. But I emphasize that past post as I have torn my left ACL and MCL from playing pick-up basketball. I had reconstructive surgery on it nearly 3 years ago, and while my left knee doesn't inhibit me from doing anything, if I run hard or have an intense workout, I limp for a good while afterward. I had a pretty hard spinning class late last week and put a lot of pressure on the knee for nearly an hour straight, and it took me a while for the limp to go away. My knee will never be 100% ever again, and I'm no athlete. Whether Hatcher rushed his recovery back from his ACL surgery, you be the judge, but cut him some slack with the injury, it's really hard to immediately come back from that injury and feel the same like you did before. And for those who might say, "Well he shouldn't have come back or come back so soon then..." What do you expect him to do? He had to return eventually, this is his career, what he does to make a living.

    Has Anyone Noticed....

While every team has some weakness(es), you make it sound like these teams are barely even playoff contenders. You don't get to be in/around the top of the conference if it sounds like your team has that many gaping holes as you give the perception of.

    Owen Nolan

How do you know there's a good chance? Has there been any sources between the two media outlets or any major sports/NHL outlets supporting this? While I'd be all for having Nolan in 2nd/3rd line role, this is the first time I've read that there is a good chance of him coming here, and no disrespect to you or anything, I'd like to see some more credible sports sources.
