This is my final thoughts on the whole bowl game subject/BCS. As much as I don't like Florida, they made a compelling case to play in the National Championship. So has Michigan, despite not playing since the middle of November and despite losing to Ohio State. The bottom line is, unless you have either two clear-cut undefeated teams like last year playing for the National Championship, or just 1 team w/o any losses and 1 team with just 1 loss (which is all but impossible), the system is a flawed system and will never, ever, be fair. Personally, I think it's a joke that Nebraska got to play in the 2001 Championship and OU got to play in 2003 when both lost their conference championship game. Now, before you MSU fans get on my behind there saying that Michigan didn't win it's conference either, look at the losses in the conference championship games. Nebraska lost to Colorado, OU lost to Kansas State. Nothing against Colorado or KSU, but they weren't going to be playing for any National Championship that year. Michigan's sole loss was to OSU, #1 all year. And OU, correct me if I'm wrong, had 2 losses that season before losing to LSU in the finale. The best solution, at least this year to mme, would have been for Michigan and Florida to square off somehow, then the winner plays OSU, winner take all. But, you obvioiusly can't have a band-aid approach that varies from year-to-year. And as an aside, as a big LSU fan I thought it would've been cool if they could have squeezed into the Rose Bowl, but Sugar is sweet as they say. It will be like a glorified home game, the Sugar Bowl (along with the "intimidating" /sarcasm New Orleans Bowl) returns to New Orleans. It'll be a great story for the city still working to get back on it's feet, and restaurants and shops will be buzzing those few days, so it'll be good for a small businesses downtown and in the French Quarter to get some much needed dollars.

Or a statistician b/c he comes up with things and comparisons I've never even heard of in my life. Personally, I'm tired of all the speculation and I'm getting to the point where I don't really give a s**t anymore. I've had enough. I just want the announcements to come and for it to be over with. LSU was all but confirmed, major sports sites were reporting it. It wasn't definite but it was going to happen in all likelihood until both UCLA and Florida put a big monkey wrench into that plan. Hell as an LSU fan, I don't care what BCS game they play in as long as they can get in. They aren't playing for the National Championship so basically almost all the BCS games before the championship are filler games to me, no one BCS bowl is significantly better or worse than the other.

I don't want to be a sour apple in here, I was happy when USC went down, but with Florida winning the SEC and now 12-1, I think they've made a good case to be in the National Championship. I watched most of the game and saw that their opponents overall record percentage was like .650, which topped the nation. Normally I could give two s**ts about trying to bring stats into any sports talk, but that one stands out pretty could. The bad win to Ball State could hurt Michigan. Florida, despite handily beating Western Carolina, might get affected playing a I-AA team. But why should Michigan get penalized for not having a "conference championship game" when they've taken care of most of their opponents in a pretty effective manner? I'm hoping for Michigan, but Florida could seriously have a case for leapfrogging them. It'll be interesting... There's just not a fair way to choose the opponent. Also, kudos to my alma mater with another impressive win today to get their 4th 10-win season over the past 5.

Hey............I might be attending the bowl game my school is in, the very first one to kick off the bowl season, the Poinsettia Bowl, so watch the low-blows. In all seriousness, I really might be going to that game. EDIT: Also, I've heard rumors down in my neck of the woods on one of the main AM radio stations down here that LSU will be offered an invitation to the Rose Bowl. I'd like to see USC lose and Michigan get back in that #2 spot, but I'd also love to see a Michigan-LSU matchup as well.

That'd be cool if he does, he's just annoying cause he's predictable now. Also, a little vent here but... As much as I love LSU (and would love the idea of a Michigan/LSU Rose bowl if LSU makes BCS and Michigan doesn't play for a championship), I absolutely cannot stand a lot of LSU fans. People have been calling for their coach, Les Miles, to be fired. He finished 11-2 his first season and is going to finish no worse than 10-3 this season. That's two 10-win seasons in his first two tries. Don't forget a lot of the first sesaon was a major distraction trying to deal with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. And nevermind that LSU's road games this year were all against SEC top-10 opponents (Auburn at the time, Florida, Tennessee at the time, Arkansas). They won two of those. Yet they want him fired. Why? Because he has a different coaching demeanor than Nick Saban who coached LSU to a championship in 2003, and somehow LSU fans think they can win every year now even though they've only won 2 national championships in their history (1958 was the other). They definitely had a boat-load of talent to play in a national championship this year, but it didn't quite work out. IT would've been tough to Heaven forbid they don't win it every year, especially with the brutal road schedule this year. Think big no doubt about it, but reality has to set in every now and then, which is usually absent in Tiger fans. 11-2 and 11-2/10-3 after this season is nothing to be sour about.

I guess it's because I'm a big LSU fan, and LSU couldn't stop him, even though he only runs two plays normally. He lines up in a shotgun 9 times out of 10, with either split running backs or just one running back on either side. He either QB draws, hands off to one of the RBs, or fakes the handoff and runs himself. THAT'S ALL HE DOES! In the meantime, Michigan's hopes of getting selected to play OSU again seem to quickly be fading unless Notre Dame can pull a miracle out of the hat. I just don't see how UCLA stands much of a chance against them, they are just so effecient. Not really all that explosive on either side of the ball, but they just make very few mistakes. How about that LSU-Arkansas game? It was quite an exciting one. While I'm glad the purple-white-and gold managed to escape with a victory, if McFadden for Arkansas stays healthy next year and is not a serious Heisman contender, I'll be seriously disappoined. That guy is going to be a stud next year. The times he lined up at QB yesterday, he was better than Casey Dick! Finally, gotta give another big to my alma mater. Sixth straight win to improve to 9-2, hopefully getting back into the top-25 by tomorrow. The team they were playing on the road is a bit down this season, but a 45-14 win against any team on the road is quite impressive. After a slow start in the game, they just dominated from the 2nd quarter onward.

Am I the only one who can't stand Tim Tebow, Floirda's backup QB? I don't hate him as a person, I'm sure he's a good guy, but he is so 1-dimensional as a QB it's ridiculous, yet he still makes plays more often than not.

RWN HQ being invaded in December!

I am confirmed to come up to the area from Thursday 12/7 (arrive early PM) to Sunday 12/10 (leaving early PM). Don't know if that's worthy any get-together plans or anything but I shall be looking forward to the visit!

I know a lot of Wolverine fans don't want to hear this, I don't like a game largely being decided by penalties/flags, but that helmet to helmet hit on Troy Smith was the right call to make. The refs will call it every time they see it and just because it was #1/#2 matchup doesn't make it different. I hate how the game result largely came to that but it has to be called. I blew a gasket when Nebraska and Oklahoma each played for the National Championship in 2001 and 2003 when they didn't even win their conference titles. And, they both lost in the championship games, go figure. You'd be hard-pressed not to put USC in the title game against OSU if they beat Notre Dame and UCLA, or Florida if they can win at Florida State and the SEC Championship game against Arkansas., but if neither of those scenarios pan out, does Michigan get in the National Championship? Think about it, there's no Louisville/Rutgers/West Virginia to worry about anymore, Michigan has pretty much taken care of business the whole season before losing to OSU, which is frustrating, yes, but nothing to be ashamed of in the grand scheme of things. USC and Florida already have 1 loss. I'd take a 1 loss Michigan team in the title game over both USC and Florida if they both end up having 2 losses. In other football action, I have to give a big to my alma mater for dominating in a game well under the radar. Nobody really watched it and understandably so, but TCU just thumped San Diego St 52-0. Their QB was 20-23, just under 300 yards passing, 5 TDs passing in only just over 2 quarters of work. I don't care who you play against, that's just damn good numbers in such a short amount of time. This after passing for under 100 yards last week, so an excellent rebound game. It wasn't too surprising that they won, but that they won so easily and with an insane passing attack that usually doesn't come with my school. My school usually tries to have a balanced offense, establishing a running game and opening up simple/short passes and play action calling. 8-2 now and hopefully closing in on a return to the Top 25 and a 2nd straight 10-win season.

Help me out guys/gals, and try to answer this with as little bias as you can...why do MSU fans almost never show any support for the Wolverines if the two teams aren't matching up against each other in a contest, but from here at least Wolverine fans seem fine to return the favor if it appears?

    College Football

Can't wait for Saturday this upcoming weekend. My living room is going to be like a home theater Saturday afternoon. I know I'll definitely have two TV's set up, one for my school's game, the other with a gigantic antenna getting clear picture for the UM-OSU game as both will be on at the same time. I might actually install a mini-bar too. Go Big Blue!

34-26 against Ball State? Come on guys! They'll be fine, I don't see how they'll slip much from the BCS rankings, should stay at #2 assuming OSU wins. The two schools I closely follow played on TV both at the same time, so my living room looks like a home theater right now with multiple TVs. In one of the nobody gives a poot game, TCU won a less than inspiring effort against UNLV by 15 when it should've been at least 30. Currently watching LSU-Tennessee. JaMarcus Russell did his typical brainfarts against big teams early throwing for an INT for a TD, but he's led LSU to two straight TD's after the mishap. Give him credit for that. 21-17 LSU late in the 3rd.

Lang is Lazy and He Sucks

This has been my take on Lang after seeing him on the ice with the Wings for a bit now. Is he worth his price tag? Debatable, I don't think so, but I'd be glad to be proven wrong. He's not a fast skater, that is frustrating at times, and sometimes it's noticable over other players how the puck just can't stay on his stick when needed to the most. However, he quietly produces, not at a lighting-quick pace, but he gets the job done. He doesn't throw his weight around much but he's still hard to knock off the puck with his size. And he's produced both seasons in the playoffs so far, one of the very few people that have produced, unlike a lot of others on the roster. I'm assuming this is his last year under contract here and at his age, I don't think he'll be back with the Wings after this season. He's frustrating at times to watch but I'm glad he's been on the roster the last 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 seasons, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. The bad rap he gets on here at times is both annoying and humorous to me at the same time because he has produced when it has counted most.

If there's one team I cannot stand.....

Ok, it takes A LOT for me to just hate a team, I'm not into trash talking or media hype for sports all that much, kinda a behind-the-scenes just watch the game kinda guy, but I seriously cannot stand the Hurricanes. First, stomping on the Louisville Cardinals logo at Louisville earlier this season. And Louisville knocks the tar out of them, 31-7 I believe. Disrespectful at the very least and they pay for it. If you watch SportsCenter tonight/tomorrow morning with college football highlights, you'd think Miami playing Florida International wouldn't be anything special to look at for more than a second. But nope, a big melee between the teams pans out. I couldn't tell how it started or who started it, but to me it doesn't matter, just the fact that it involves Miami is just a joke. One Hurricane player took his helmet off and slammed a guy from FIU in the head or somewhere on his body It seems like the most selfish, the most show-off type athletes ALWAYS play for this football team. Coker better install some discipline in these sorry athletes fast. I cannot stand the Hurricanes. EDIT: Mods feel free to put this in college football thread if necessary, just wanted to rant away at this in a new thread.

If there's one team I cannot stand.....

Here is ESPN.com's recap of the Miami-FIU game. I'm assuming it's an Assoc. Press recap so it'll probably be the same off all major sports sites. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=262872390 Most notably... Whatever Phillips. That doesn't excuse the actions of your team or make it justifiable to act just as classless as what FIU 'started'. I'd expect more from you Kyle Wright, being the starting QB of the team and one of the leaders. I don't give a s**t who started it. I'd be expecting you to be one of the first people on the field breaking the fight up and bringing you players back to the bench and giving them an ass-kicking for being absolutely classes and stupid, not assigning blame.

Ah...I was out at dinner tonight when I first saw the scrums and the TV wasn't in the best viewing spot where I was at to make any accurate assumptions or blame. Regardless, both institutions should be ashamed of themselves.

    2006 ALCS: Tigers vs. A's

I didn't see any of the game either but I couldn't believe how the game ended when I saw the highlights tonight out at dinner. You knew that ball was gone once it struck the bat. It was just tagged. What a way to advance to the World Series, a walk-off home run. I'm not a big baseball fan, but my family is huge on the Astros so I kinda side to them. They've had a lot of good games against the Cardinals in recent years so if the Cards advance to the World Series, I'll be rooting for the Tigers even harder. Congrats Tigers, Congrats Fans, Congrats City of Detroit!

I'm with ya 100% on cutting newbies on here slack as you've laid out, but you can't tell me that the creation of this thread was just a brand new idea overnight. I highly doubt this was a newbie creating this thread and that this thread was the hot new thing to do today.

    College Football

I'm assuming a lack of discipline/mental errors is part of the MSU package right now, correct me if I am wrong though Spartan fans. Reason I point that out is when John L. Smith used to coach at Louisivlle, his teams had very little discipline whatsoever, would always talk s**t etc. I'll never forget when my school and Louisville were both in Conference USA, in the 2002 season. We were playing in Louisville that year, and unexpectedly beat them the year before pretty handily. Their players were talking so much crap in the public that they were going to dominate in 2002 and "take TCU behind the woodshed" Louisville was favored by around 15 that game, and just kept making mental error after mental error. TCU dominated and led 38-6 at halftime, and if not for some Dave Ragone heroics in the 2nd half, it would've been more ugly. Final score was TCU 45-31. That game felt so good to win after Louisivlle players were making asses of themselves instead of just shutting their traps and just trying to do their jobs.
