    US Open

I'm not a huge tennis fan but I was flipping around the TV and ran into late of the 2nd game of the Agassi-Pavel match and it drew me in. That was a thrill to watch, especially after Agassi looked like he was in the tank during the third game. Some of the shots those men hit that game were incredible.

(closed) Zetterberg's wrist may need surgery

*Sigh* Why would you wait this long to get this examined when it was an ongoing problem? The pain comes and goes, I can level with that arguemnt, but still, if it even was just a slight annoyance right after the playoffs ended, better to get it checked sooner rather than later. But, nothing you can do about it now. I'm not banking on Zetterberg to be out for long, I'm confident he'll get the wrist fixed in time for the beginning of the season, or for the majority of it.

http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2006/Rankings/Coaches.htm Pre-season Coaches top-25 rankings. Big 10 notables....Ohio State is numero uno, Michigan is 15th, Iowa 17th, and Penn St 19th. Minnesota and Purdue and Northwestern have a few votes for rank as well. Michigan State has zip, which kinda surprised me. My school is ranked 21st and LSU is 9th. :beerbuddy:

Red Wings Nation -This includes YOU!

Well, I have lucked out for this scenario, if for whatever reasons people want to arrange a trip elsewhere outside of Detroit… The college I went to is in Fort Worth, roughly 30 miles west of Dallas. Fortunately, one of the weekends I am planning to go back there for a football game this fall is the same weekend the Red Wings play a game against the Stars in the neighboring city. It’s the final weekend of October. The Wings game is Fri, October 27 with the football game the day after on Sat, October 28. Weather is usually good down in Dallas-Fort Worth that time of year, might be chilly but in all likelihood the temperatures are in the 50s/60s. American Airlines Arena is a pretty solid place, and there are plenty of great places to hang out in Dallas at, or in Fort Worth for that manner, both are great cities. Anything in downtown Dallas or north of it is usually really nice and safe, once you get a few miles south of the downtown Dallas area is where things get a bit sketchy. AA Arena is just north of the downtown area. I haven’t confirmed any of my plans yet or where I would stay exactly in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but unless something major happens with work or whatever else, I’m going to be in DFW that weekend. I’d probably drive up to DFW early, early morning that Friday; it’s roughly an 8 hour drive from where I’m from. So, unless there are 100 people on this trip you probably wouldn’t have to worry about spending money on renting a car. I wouldn’t mind driving people around, my car could fit a decent amount of people. If anybody wants to get serious about this, I’m game in playing host and organizing something and recommending cost-effective places to stay as I should be up there during the time anyways. I can be flexible somewhat and probably take an extra day off work to accommodate and drive others around that want to make a trip of this, if necessary, and come up a day early if anybody can only arrive on that Thursday or whatever. Just keep this thread active or PM me if you’re up for this or have any other ideas. We could figure out the ticket situation and other things if this idea progresses any further.

    Wings/Sabres working on a trade?

Holland is an imbosil if he gives up Kronwall in this rumor. If somehow the Wings get Wing-killer Drury in this deal, I would do cartwheels.

    Shanahan seeking a 2-yr deal at $5M/season

$4M? Yikes.... Shanahan would be silly to pass up this offer.

Eklund: Biron could get traded to the Wings

I honestly think Eklund comes up with his rumors after poker night with his buddies and about 10 drinks of gin and vodka. I don't take anything reported by him seriously. If we were talking about 5 years ago, I'd take Belfour over Biron in a heartbeat. Not now though.

    2006 FIFA World Cup

The refereeing in this game is absolute bulls***. Mastroeni and Pope got shafted. Definitely fouls on them but they were not red-card worthy. Now the U.S. are a man short when not too long ago they were a man ahead. Just crappy-ass officiating. The referee for this game basically killed any chance for the U.S. to advance to the 2nd round.

Man.....McBride took a helluva elbow to the head there about 30 minutes into the game. Took quite a dent and got bloodied up. Good for the home team though cause we're 1-up now in manpower.

    College Football

I love college football. When college football and hockey merge in late fall, I'm almost always smiling. So much to watch! I haven't read many previews in-depth this summer, don't know a whole lot of athletes from multiple teams, but here goes with the teams stated above... OU could be a powerhouse again. They got it going near the end of last season. I don't know about Peterson's health status, but QB Romar just has to manage games and not try to win them all by himself throwing 400 yards a game with Peterson being the workhorse. I assume their defense will be strong as always. Notre Dame...I was surprised to see them ranked so highly, but maybe they are worth the hype once again and are ready to return to being on of the best teams in college football on a daily basis again. Quinn is the real deal. I always forget #83's name on Notre Dame but he's a damn good receiver. USC and Ohio State I don't really know what their strong/weakpoints are. Texas could be last year's version of Oklahoma if things go awry. I think they have good RB depth, but if a RB has an injury and the new quarterback, whoever it is, is asked to shoulder the load by himself, they could tailspin early. The two teams I follow pretty hard are my alma mater, Texas Christian, and LSU, living in SE Louisiana for most my life. My alma mater was very interesting last year, stunning Oklahoma with amazing defense, yet falling to average SMU the following week, then deciding to win out the rest of our games to finish 11-1, and with many of those games after the starting QB went down with injury and the backup QB just stunning everybody. Prior to coming in last season, he only threw one pass in his college career. TCU should be ranked to start the season in the 20s probably. They got most the cogs in place again to maybe win another conference title and possibly flirting with BCS if the right things fall into place. Wealth of expereince at skill positions, esp. running back, the QB who exceeded expectations is back, and an intense defense as well. The major concerns though are new cornerbacks and an offensive line that needs to gel quickly. If the o-line performs, no reason why the team shouldn't average around 30 points a game. LSU has all the talent in the world. The big thing with them is CONSISTENCY. They were so frustrating to watch last season despite winning a lot of the close games. A lot of the close games shouldn't have been that way. JaMarcus Russell, when on, is one of the better QBs out there. When he's off, he just falls off the map. Their defense might not be as strong as in recent years so that is of concern. If all the right things fall into place, they could contend for a national championship but SEC play is always brutal. I'm thinking right now a solid bowl for LSU, but no BCS.

    2006 FIFA World Cup

The US's chances aren't looking so good, gotta play nearly perfect to beat a powerhouse such as Italy, but advancing to the 2nd round CAN be done if you don't have quite as stellar first round. When the World Cup was in this country in 1994 I went to some first-round games in Dallas and saw a matchup between Bulgaria and Nigeria. Nigeria blasted them 3-0, but I believe Bulgaria made it to the final four that year. Italy is definitely better than Nigeria though, and odds are stacked against the US. But it's definitely possible that they still advance if they somehow win today. Maybe a tie as well, but I wouldn't bank on advancing with just a tie to the Italians. Obviously if they don't beat Ghana assuming the above happens, bye-bye to the 2nd round.

    2006 FIFA World Cup

My brother is a soccer nut and my parents are pretty big fans as well. I'm not into soccer as much as my brother but the World Cup is something I pay a good bit of attention to. USA is currently ranked 5th in the FIFA World Rankings. Their opening round pool is features the Czech Republic, Italy, and Ghana. Extremely tough draws. The Czech Republic is one of the best soccer nations right now, Italy has always been a soccer power. Ghana isn't a world-beater but they are no pushover either. USA is good, I don't know if the nation is overhyped or ranked too high or not. I think what I'm waiting to see is if the quarterfinal showing in 2002 is a fluke or not, with a fair amount of players from the 2002 roster playing once again 4 years later. A few of my memorable World Cup moments, I went to two World Cup games in Dallas in 1994 at the Cotton Bowl in the opening round. Nigeria shut out Bulgaria 3-0, and Spain and South Korea drew 2-2. In 1998, I kid you not, I was in Paris when France won the World Cup that year as host country. Thankfully I was nowhere near the stadium as it was probably mass chaos there. That night I ate at a restaurant 10-15 minutes from where I was staying and just watched people party and parade in the streets until late in the evening. That was a pretty fun night to experience.

    met Danny Cleary today

Nice man, Cleary sounds like a good guy. For those critiquing him, we're supposed to have others put it in the net more consistently (i.e. Shanahan, Datsyuk, etc.) that didn't. Would it be nice for Cleary to have 10 goals over 82 games instead of 3? Sure, but we're not relying on Cleary to score 15 goals a game. I'd definitely like to see him back and a slight raise in salary is deserved I think a bit above the league minimum.

    Sean Avery...

Please do, you have the power to! No way on Avery with his shenanigans. He's acted like a butthole one too many times for my liking, as well as a lot of other people and organizations (i.e. the Kings). If he would just keep quiet for a change and not stir up drama constantly, I wouldn't mind bringing him back, but as this past season has shown, he's a cancer to his teammates and to himself.

I hope you all can get another one worked out for the playoffs. Was a good time today. Most of the ones that originally said they were in were able to make it. Some early, some late but we enjoyed food and a few drinks during the end of the Pistons/Suns game and the Wings game talking about the team, getting to know a bit about who's who and hung out for a bit after the game talking and killing time. Was quite enjoyable, I was glad to make it back up for another game and a gathering!

    It's time for a change

On the garter thing, they could be a bit more gaudy don't you think? I mean just the stripe on the side is kinda dull. I'm thinking maybe you can make some shapes here and there on the pants area, like lightning symbols all around the pants to make them stand out a little bit more vs. just having the stripes on the side. You could put some of the downtown skyscrapers to blend in as well to make it show like it's raining too! Yay or nay? or

    It's time for a change

I'd have to put some more thought into the original ideas made to start this thread, but it is intriguing. It could definitely be time for a change. If you want to compare to past jerseys worn, maybe to a jersey similar to this one. What do ya think? /

    NCAA Basketball Tournament Thread

Unreal! I've been in the office most of the day so no hoops action for me. But, they've knocked off three really solid programs so far. The odds will still be against them, but they've done it 3 of 5 times so far, no reason to see why they can't pull it off. With tourneys like this, you don't need to be the best team around to win it all throughout an entire season. You've got to play consistent ball throughout, no doubt about it, but if you catch fire near the end of the season with a record that might not be the greatest, anything can happen.

    NCAA Basketball Tournament Thread

LSU-Texas game just concluded a few minutes ago and held true to form of exciting NCAA Tourney action. It was a slugfest to say the least. Tyrus Thomas for LSU (#12) was amazing again, just swatting shots away and making acrobatic moves in the paint. Glen "Big Baby" Davis (#0) will surprise a lot of people. He weighs roughly 315 pounds but is surprisingly agile. He's got good footwork and while I wouldn't mistake his shooting with J.J. Reddick, he'll usually hit a long jump shot or an infrequent 3-pointer if you leave him open. Glad to see them go to the Final Four. If you tune in, watch Thomas and Davis, they are fun to see.

And Duke is out!!! I'm a pretty big LSU fan and have been flippig between the Wings game tonight and the LSU-Duke game and from what I saw, J.J Reddick was shut down and Tyrus Thomas was just nuts for LSU, if you manage to watch LSU's next game in the Elite Eight keep an eye on him, he has a ridiculous vertical leap.

Wings acquire D Cory Cross from Penguins

If I were a coach I would take a Rivers over Kronwall any day. But what do I know, I only played defense for 20 years. You, on the other hand, post a lot on interweb message boards. Good job. Rivers over Kronwall? We're supposed to take this seriously?
