    No offensive creativity

Contrary to what this thread is, I think this is exactly the type of hockey more/less the Wings need to play right now. Of course they have the personnel to play more creative, it's been that way for a while now. When they work though, they have better chances to win. And when they work, they are pretty good at dump and chase and mucking it around on the boards, even though it might not be the first preference of their play type. Just work a little bit harder. Even though the Edmonton game was an ugly win and the Oilers aren't headed anywhere this season, they definitely worked for that win in ways you often need to win playoff victories.

    Valtteri Filppula watch thread

I blame the terrorists for secretly telling Mike Babcock to push Jiri Hudler to a different line when line combos change all the time in hockey. Rat bastards.

    Valtteri Filppula watch thread

That still doesn't change the PERCEPTION (and you can pretty much put this as truth as well) that you ride Hudler's coattails in an absurd fashion, bringing him in on just about anything imaginable even when the subject manner doesn't need to include him. You can throw all the stats and numbers all you want at people, but that doesn't change the PERCEPTION and why you get ragged on constantly on here, fair or not.

    Ville Leino Scores Hat Trick

And you calling people sour does no good either. It's just the other side of the extreme trying to tell people off which doesn't do anything. Once again, no matter how much you yell defending Leino or making excuses for him until you are blue in the face, he stunk here in Detroit, he's in a better place in Philadelphia, and haters will always hate no mattter how much you talk (EDIT: and whether the disdain is fair or not).

    Ville Leino Scores Hat Trick

And leave it be, you as a Leino slappy, to be one of the first in here being the exact opposite of the extreme preparing to call people out. Just because you are on the 100% opposite side of the haters doesn't make your response any more right. He stunk here, bottom line. Your defending of him is not going to change anybody's opinions regarding that. He's doing better in Philadelphia and in a better state of mind there mentally. More power to him and I'm glad he's finding success. Leave it at that.

Nicklas Lidstrom likely will be Red Wing next season, too

That's all fine and well, just don't get butthurt either like you did when people jump on your case on something when you aren't specific enough and people don't understand you.

Nicklas Lidstrom likely will be Red Wing next season, too

Of course you can. But given that Lidstrom is one of the best players in the league, and one of the best Red Wings of all time, and how plenty of people acted beyond stupid in here that he re-signed for too much when he still took a pay cut and could've easily made more on the open market (not that he was going anywhere, mainly just showing my point that he still took less money), people are going to act a little more touchy when it's one of your team's best players. Hence, being more descriptive in your first response, which would've saved you a lot of grief.

No, you just said you hope he doesn't ask for 6 million, which leads to a lot of ways your statement could be interpreted. If you would've said the additional in your first response, nobody would've probably jumped on your case.

    Jimmy Howard watch thread

The soft goal stunk obviously, but he immediately picked up his play while most of the team was still dragging rear end for about half the game, gotta take the good with the bad, and the good outweighed the bad plenty yesterday at least with Howard. I've never been one here to absurdly focus on goaltending here like other Wings fans do (at least perception wise, whether you think that is true or not that's up for you to decide). Last postseason, did Howard play all that great? No. Was he the major deciding factor of the Wings losing early in the postseason? Not really either. Much as will be the same this year. I don't think he'll rarely be the lone factor/major factor in the Wings losing a game or whatever, and hopefully you can get him to steal a game or two on occassion (which you can argue that was the case last night even though he let in a bad one early). One thing I think is safe to say that you'll get from him, he's not going to get overly rattled, I don't think he did much last postseason.

Zetteberg and Datsyuk no longer on the same line

I won't go this far, but a post like this obviously shows the frustration people have with him recently, me as well. We need him, but my goodness has he just been making so many glaring turnovers lately, much more so than when a lot of people had him as a whipping boy last season (IMO last season he wasn't great but I don't think he stood out being just terrible compared to others, etc.).

    Is this the end?

That's not what the original poster was implying and you know it. Nobody expects this team to go 82-0. Pretty much anybody understands that in a lengthy seasons you're going to hit a snag here or there, maybe lose two or three straight. But this team has been playing with such inconsistency for a good chunk lately, and close to the postseason and it's not looking like they are playing with intensity or effort out there as they could. It's a legitimate cause for concern. I can deal with losing fine. I don't like half-assing it all that much though. That is entirely subjective whether you or I think we are playing like that, but this wouldn't be a subject matter of concern if the Wings were winning more lately, or looking like they aren't getting outhustled more often than not. We all want wins, but I think that people can at least be at ease with a loss as long as they work hard.

    Is this the end?

This is March, a bit closer to the playoffs and the team is more healthy. At February of '08 they were ridiculously injured, but still all but already had a #1 seed wrapped up and there was pretty much no doubt where they stood going into the playoffs. That month stunk but pretty much everybody already knew the Wings place going into that postseason with nobody breathing down their neck. Not the end, but they are just wildly inconsistent lately. It can't be expected that they "flip a switch" per se every post season like they did in 2009 when the defense for most of the year was very bad. Could something similar happen this go-round? Of course, but again not wise to expect such a scenario every time. I'm not a doom and gloomer, I rarely ever get into calling players worthless or want to burn their heads at the stake, plenty of other teams would kill to be in the situation the Wings are in presently which is all but in the playoffs, and it's impossible to play balls to the wall every game in such a lengthy season, I don't care what team you are and I don't care if we're talking hockey, the NBA, or Major League Baseball where you play 160+ games a season. It's just not always going to be there. Which is why I rarely go suggesting trading so-and-so or benching somebody for 10 games to tell them to wake up, because this team has the personnel to win more often than not. But if they want to make a deep playoff run the attention to detail and urgency has got to be better. It's that simple, at least in concept of course. A little more urgency and effort and their chances to win are that much greater. And before anybody comes with any possible responses like I'm lowering my expectations to not be as disappointed or I'm stupid for not fully believing or that I'm giving up or throwing in the towel, and some of you know who you are, you can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. That's not what I am meaning and you know this. If there's anything I really hate regarding stuff like this, it's the doom and gloomers who say we are f**ked from minute one (which isn't what the original poster's tone is, not even close, just normal concern) as well as the pom-pom cheerleaders who yell at others for showing question or a slight inkling of doubt. Both sides are equally aggravating and you all know who you are in here. We all want the Red Wings to win in here.

Nicklas Lidstrom likely will be Red Wing next season, too

Bingo. When Lidstrom re-signed for another year, the absurdity in here for how much he signed for was beyond stupid, when (1) Lidstrom took a pay cut (2) he could easily make more on other teams and (3) he could have easily asked for more money.

    Trevor Gillies

Aaron Downey enforced Ian Laperriere after he injured Nicklas Lidstrom. Looking back on it now I don't think Lappy purposefully intended to deliberatly injure Lidstrom, but Aaron Downey did his job standing up for one of the stars on the team, in a way that pretty much anybody in hockey would approve. It wasn't front page news for a week after the incident, it shouldn't have been, I'm pretty sure Lappy understands what he did and why Downey responded. Now I don't know enforcer etiquette or whatever, but I've only seen two plays of what Gillies has done in his limited career, and he's basically a chicken s**t punk with no respect for others on the ice. And this has been drama news for weeks and weeks on end now. One of the ways to enforce here clearly doesn't belong with the other. So maybe you should be more specific about your ZOMG PEOPLE DON'T LIKE ENFORCERS ON HERE schtick (which is more b.s. as the days pass by as pretty much most people in here understand their value) before you call people out.
